A friend said her father told her, losing his wife of many years was the hardest thing he had ever faced. This man landed at Normandy on D Day and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. I lost my beloved wife of 50 years, 9 months ago. I now understand. This song nails the devastation one feels from such a loss.

This is our theme song. it's a sad song but my late husband had chosen it. He celebrated his 73 birthday on Aug 28, 2021, we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary Sep 13, 2021 and he passed away Sep 30, 2021. Unti now I cried every night and I used to hear this sad song till I get some sleep. HONEY I missed you so much. I hope and pray that you are now happy with our creator. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.Only time will tell when I will ever forget you

Pushing 70 year old Marine here, bawling like a kid who dropped an ice cream. Lost the love of my life when she was 23, to leukemia. There has not been a day she has not been felt in my heart. The void does not get refilled. Life trudges on... This is the saddest song ever, in a way, but, I think, it shows we need to rejoice on what we had, not lament the loss. Easier said than done. Nice review...

You have officially heard the Saddest Song Ever Written. Period. Honey is sentimental and adorable and he thinks its cute and funny. She is upset that she wrecked the car and is crying hoping he isn't mad at her. He couldn't stay mad at her if he tried. He loved her very much, and now that he looks back at all the cute and adorable things she did, he really appreciates how sweet and sentimental she is. I always wanted a relationship like that but I got the opposite. I think she had a terminal illness and loved him so much she couldn't bear to break the news to him. This song has had me choked up since it came out when I was about six years old.

That's the read I got. When he mentions her crying in the day then she left when he wasn't there. We knew my dad was dying but he waited until mom left for work and he thought I had gone to bed to go. I came in to do a final night check on him and found him going. Got my mom back but by that point he was gone.

My late wife passed away in 2008, and even though it was long ago, this song still brings back smiles, tears and a flood of memories.
Young people think they know what love is but watching the ravages of cancer slowly take the life from her, knowing there's nothing you can do... well, unless you've been there, like so many if those who leave comments here, you can't imagine the helplessness you feel, the anger, the anguish and the emptiness in your heart until an old favorite song, a soft breeze, a passing fragrance rekindles the love you never gave up and speaks softly, "I'm still here."

My man, mom died alone too. It wasn't for the reason that she didn't have family. My sisters had lunch with her that very afternoon, and she usually spend the whole day with them, but on that Dec day on the 21 in 2005. They said that she was so anxious to go home, they say it seemed like she knew that was going to be her last time to see them and she didn't want them to see that. They founder her that evening with a smile on her face. I still kick myself for not going home that summer.

Before I meet my wife in person, we were playing suggesting TH-cam videos of sad songs that were unknown to each other. She likes modern country, I like the old. I suggested this song and after it ended, I couldn't hear anything and thought she hung up. She came back on after a couple minutes and I realized she'd been crying.... hard.

I know all about it :
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I'm not asleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on the snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quite birds in circle flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I'm not there, I did not die.

Some cried. others vomited at the mawkish sentiment of this much-lampooned tear-jerker. I still have time for it for two reasons. One is Bobby's golden (and somewhat underrated) voice, The other is how deftly it captures the little things that cumulatively sustain a long-term relationship which have meaning only to them. I scoffed when I first heard it, but as I matured I started to get it. Yes, I've been there and I hope, dear Rogue, you are spared at least some of the pain

I cried my heart out the first time I heard this song in 68. Little did I know just two years later I would be living it myself…it holds a very special place in my heart.

My mom introduced me to this one. I honestly can't think of a time in my life when I haven't known of this song and I've loved it since the very 1st time I heard it. Yes it's super sad, but even way back then I've always focused more on the love than the loss. Afterall, as Alfred Lord Tennyson once said.. "Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
Many blessings and love to those who've experienced such a loss. Bit by bit, may your days get easier sooner rather than later ❤️

I had a slightly mentally challenged sweet uncle that loved this song. He lost his mother (my great grandmother) when he was only nine. We used an old cassette recorder and "looped" "Honey" onto tape so he could listen to it over and over whenever he wished. Uncle Bill was not much for expressing feelings, but he use to play that cassette and stand at the window listening and sometimes we could see him lipping the words. We always wondered who he was thinking of when he was listening to it. But, I think it was his mother he missed and this made him think of her....
    Thank you for the reaction....

Love you none-judgmental reaction and just hearing “ the love” a man had for this woman. I was 7 when this song came out and even at that age I would cry because he was in pain and I wanted to fix it. I still love this song, it’s an honest story of the times. -grace

Summer (The First Time) is my favorite song of his. He also had his own TV show for a few years. He also toured with the Beatles and rode on the bus with them.

Try his song “Autumn of my life”
Great song, my father wanted it played at his funeral, which I did

I think that I was about 14 or 15 and went out to California from Texas and went to Kntsberry Farm amusement park and got to see Bobby Goldsboro at a free concert in the auditorium there and he sang this song, it was very memorable. Ribbit, ribit.

What a lovely way to hear this song, edited with your reactions. I remember it well. Your input is very thoughtful. Death is so well captured by it. At my mother’s funeral earlier this year I could barely look at her coffin.

Was actually a big hit in 68, one of my favorite songs then. He had a song Autumn off my Life after that, was ok nothing to the popularity of Honey. I really dug his song a few years earlier Little Things, much different, upbeat.

Looking at how big of a hit this song was in 1968, I'm surprised I haven't heard this song before. It's beautiful. It was a sad song, but he was talking about the happy moments, which made easier to take.

Haven't heard that song since the early '70s still remembered every word the power of music. I would love to see you react to a song called tobacco road performed by the winters Brothers Edgar and Johnny Winters but it should be the live version from 1970 while you're at it you should listen to Edgar winners performing live Frankenstein from 1973 with Rick Derringer. Edgar is an unappreciated musical genius forefront of his craft at the time I think you'll be pleasantly surprised

I grew up hearing this song and I was always deeply moved. I couldn’t have been more than 8 or 9 years and I was just learning that songs could be a way to tell very rich and complicated stories instead of just making us dance or think happy thoughts.
