Thank you, Fay! Wow, I've never thought of this song from a father/daughter standpoint. It always seemed like a husband/wife relationship to me. But I guess either will work because he doesn't really specify in the song. One thing is for certain; no matter who she is she definitely passed away at the end of the song ("the angels came") and did so while she was alone, which broke his heart. His love for her was so deep and she was so central to his life that her loss preoccupies his whole thought and feeling life. I love the imagery, ". . . now my life's an empty stage where Honey lived and Honey played, and love grew up . . ."
The poetic expression in this song helps with the feeling it conveys. Also, the way he helps you know Honey in some of the ways he knew her and loved her before bringing you to the painful end really makes the song one that people tend to remember becuse it's easy to feel the deep sadness of it. I remember, even as a young boy, whenever I would hear this song it would just tear me up inside and I would start tearing up, which really embarrased me, lol. This is a song that we all can relate to as people because we know we all either have lost or will lose someone we love deeply.
Wonderful reaction, Fay! Thank you again! And here's to your next one! 🙏😊💜

Bobby Goldsboro is an American pop & country singer-songwriter from the 60's-70's. "Honey" was his biggest hit but he had a lot of great songs including "See The Funny Little Clown", "Summer (The First Time)", "It's Too Late", "Little Things", "Too Many People", "With Pen In Hand", "Hello Summertime", "Watching Scotty Grow" etc. Some of his songs were performed by other artists such as Brenda Lee, Dolly Parton, John Denver.

Thank you so very much Sweetheart for playing this beautiful sad song for me. I really enjoyed it and I really do appreciate it very much. Also if you find the time could you play one of my favorite songs that I heard before and give me your reaction. Please. The name of the song is by Dolly Parton and it is called, "Me and Little Andy". Let me know what you think about it, it really means a lot to me. God bless you Honey. Have a good day. Adios.❤❤❤😢😢😢

I recall this song when it first came out in the early 1970s. Was very popular. It was about he and his wife "Honey" she got sick with some disease and died..Well if you like this type of music you will like ""SEASONS IN THE SUN" by Terrry Jacks

I too have always imagined a man and wife in this song myself, but nonetheless I can never make it thorough without a tear in my eye by the end.

My takeaway from this song is that they were husband and wife or boyfriend/girlfriend. I feel that Honey suffered from depression (all the crying) and took her own life.
