  • Double knitting is a way of creating a piece of knitting that has no wrong side. It's a cool technique that can really show off a charted pattern.
    The pattern for the Hogwarts bookscarves can be found here: www.ravelry.com/patterns/libra...

    If you're referring to the fact that you have two balls of yarn going at once - they will twist up. You just have to keep untwisting them, and/or make sure that when you're turning the work, it's clockwise, then counter-clockwise, then clockwise again, each time. Any time you have two balls of yarn going, you have to work on this.

    • @reubenk1615

      Why not keep them on a server table to give them a Mary go ride.
      Somewhere I saw a tutorial about making a ball of yarn for this method of two combined into one.
      Maybe I'm mistaken...
      Did you make a video of different double cast ons?

    I used this technique to knit a wide Star Wars scarf! I find as long as you fallow the pattern, mark off what row you complete and use stitch markers it is easy to do. I think it makes for a nice thick warm scarf. :)

    If you're following a pattern, you'll want to use the directions there for binding off, but otherwise your best bet is to knit two together across as you BO, so that the BO is as many stitches wide as one side of the knitting. Hope that helps!

    Doing this technique in entrelac would be very tricky - I'm not even sure if it is possible. I don't know of any patterns out there for double-knitting entrelac...I'd search Ravelry if I were you. Good luck!

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is pretty easy to see the difference between the front and back strand - the front are knit stitches, and the back are purl stitches. Plus, they alternate. As far as decreasing goes - not sure. I haven't tried this myself, but thinking it through in my head, I believe you're going to want to decrease by combining a front and back stitch...but now I think it through further, and it's not going to look right. I would actually need to test knit this to figure it out, sorry! :)

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    First, knit a swatch, get your gauge. Determine the width you want your blanket to be. Use your gauge swatch to decide how many stitches that is, double it (for both front and back), and cast on that number. Knit your blanket in a tube, as long as you want it to be, then cast-off. Once you seam together half of the cast-on row to itself, and the same with the BO row, you will have a double-sided blanket, stockinette on both sides.

    • @reubenk1615
      @reubenk1615 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got it.
      But it will be able to be pulled apart in the middle.
      I mean that nothing is holding both sides together.
      I hope I'm clear

Only I get tension issues holding both strands of yarn in one hand (I'm a continental knitter) and I don't want to change the color every time when alternating knit/purl stitches. • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Eva - it's probably best to stick with stockinette for double knitting. If you want to make a two-sided linen stitch scarf, I recommend knitting it in-the-round, then seaming the short ends when you're finished. It will give the same effect.

    The two sides of double knitting are worked identically - I can't see a reason why you would have one side looking differently from the other. The only suggestion I can make is to focus on good tension while you work, it should improve with practice! Good luck.

    When working with a chart in double knitting, does each square on the chart represent two stitches (one of each color) instead of one stitch?
    In other words, if the chart has 29 squares, do you cast on 58 stitches, 29 of Color A and 29 of Color B, alternating A and B as you cast on? Thanks.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry - there is no way I can answer that. Patterns can be written in different ways. Please contact the pattern designer for clarity.

    • @vivianpowell1732
      @vivianpowell1732 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@verypinkknits Thank you for replying. The chart I am considering using is one that was originally designed for colorwork, with two colors carried across the back of the work. The designer has said that the chart can also be used for double knitting the design, without making further comment.
      So I will assume that I cast on both colors for each square of the chart, because then when I finish double knitting the chart, half the stitches will be visible on the right side, and the other half will be visible on the wrong side.
      Lots to have to visualize in your mind's eye. I think I will enjoy double knitting once I actually start working on it. The process should begin to make more sense then.

    Do you think you can do this with Entrelac? You know how entrelac (which I learned using your video ❤️👍🏼) has a ws and a rs? We’ll do you know of a way to do entrelac like this so that both sides look the same? I’ve been trying but I am pretty new to knitting and I just can’t grab the concept.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No - entrelac is essentially worked in short-rows, and double knitting doesn't work with those. If you want entrelac to look the same on both sides (like for a scarf) I recommend knitting it in-the-round, so that there is no wrong-side showing.

    • @dianaguadamuz6690

      VeryPink Knits Thank you so much! If you’d feel up to it, I would love a video. I haven’t done entrelac in the round. That’s one thing with knitting, I’m such a visual learner that’s it’s difficult to master something new unless I have a visual reference. I’ve only been knitting for about a year. Of course if you feel up to it. I’d sure appreciate and love it. Thank you again: ❤️

      It's a good question! Hopefully you're using a good wool yarn that has some "stick" to it. You can use the tapestry needle to poke the end on the inside, and carefully catch some of the inside loops while you're doing it. If you're using a wool yarn, that should be enough.

      @@verypinkknits I'm using Caron simply soft...😬. I just couldn't find any videos of it so I'm quite nervous, but I've already started a large project.

    Does it need to be a long tail cast on for this

      You can use any cast-on, but long tail is a good choice.

    At 4.16 you say the next stitch you always knit, Is that applicable to both the right side and wrong sides? I am confused. Thanks Staci in advance for a reply.

      You'll want to follow what your pattern says, but yes, both sides.
