I learned this technique from this video years ago, fell off knitting for a little while, forgot, and now I'm back to learn it again! Your demo is the best I've found.
Thank you so much for providing such an elegant and straight forward technique. I've looked at other double knitting selvedge and they were so complicated. You instructions were clear and easy to follow. Brilliant!
I love your videos, looks much prettier than the way I learned double knit. I also love the chickens & the crickets in the background - sounds so peaceful!!
I'm learning doubleknit for a blanket. The twisting at the start of the row has been occupying all my energy. Thank you for showing an alternate approach!
I was doing a lot of double knitting right before COVID. Then, well, COVID. I got my practice swatch back out yesterday , read my notes, but could NOT get it to lock. So I came back to watch your video some more today-the same video I learned it from in the first place. Thank you!
Thanks so much! This is so incredibly well done. Beautifully explained, clearly demonstrated. So many other videos are done in Continental knitting or a combination of holding a color in each hand and on tiny needles in poorly contrasting colors. I’m so glad this video is still available. You have helped thousands and me too!
Hey, I learned a lot. I knit a different way but I know that I can still learn from watching. We all have our own way of holding our yarn and each way has advantages. Can't believe someone would offer criticism. Not very nice.
I did exactly as you said (wrote it down). What I didn't realize, I found out by re-watching, is that you can't keep your throw yarns straight. you actually want one to wrap the other. made all the difference in the world!
I like this edge. I couldn't figure out how to do this from the video, but the description in the notes is very good. Extremely important to hold the pearling yarn at the back of the knitting such that it will cross the knitting yarn when it is pulled forward. Thank-you for the tip!
Thank you for the update! This is what I was not doing correctly. I thought I was carrying the yarn the right way when bringing it over to the front, but apparently not. After testing with a few more rows on my swatch and paying closer attention, it's finally clicked. Love your videos!
Thanks so much for all your great tutorials! I'm a self-taught knitter and I'm always trying to learn new things. Your videos have helped immensely! I wish we had had the Internet 15 years ago when I was first learning.
Thank you! I need to keep this bookmarked, because if I don't knit for a while I forget and always have to find this video again. lol. One of the most useful knitting videos I've ever found on TH-cam.
Beautiful! I'm getting psyched! I love that the edging isn't double-thickness and stripy, but clean and neat looking, enhancing the color pattern of the piece. And even more mysterious! (I love to wow the audience, LOL)
this is an amazing example video! all the other videos like this I have found are either horribly off camera or they are only one, maybe two rows and I cannot really tell what's happening.. thank you for your time.
I have seen many of your videos and absolutely love them! Pay no attention to the nay-sayers! A wise person once said "hurting people are hurting people!" Keep doing what you're doing!
The quality of this video is much appreciated. Your edging is very attractive. I do prefer working a technique with two strands of yarn held together on both edges of double knitting because of the extra stability that provides.
This question and reply really helped. It would be useful to add this in the description, because you don't mention in the video that this is what makes the difference between a closed edge and a separated edge. I hadn't realized that thepurpose of this method was to join the edges - I thought it was just to look neat, and I couldn't figure out why it was any different than just carrying on to the end, then turning.normally. I'm glad I saw that someone else was having the same problem as me!
This is very helpful, thank you! I really like the nice clean look of this. On most of my flat double knit projects I've been adding a one stitch border a stitch or two in from the edge to lock the edges closed. But now I won't have to if it's not a design element I want in there!
Thank you! This is an excellent tutorial, the finished edge is gorgeous and it is inspiring to watch how easily you work the row. The background sounds are fun too! :)
Thanks very much for the great tutorial! I'd like to change colors for the next row, but then do I need to do something else with the slip stitch edge? Because if I don't it leaves a border in the other color. Thanks!
That's brilliant and very easy to follow, thank you so much! (I didn't hear the crickets because I have no sound...). Looking forward to trying that method!
This is a fantastic video - thanks so much for the instruction! The one issue I had was the scraping beeping noises in the background of the audio - I don't think it's just my speakers, it's something staticky and shrill behind the voice.
This is great. I love it. Been knitting for a very long time and have not seen much of this. So my big question is Where can you find patterns for the bookmarks etc. Sounds like a good Christmas gift next year. Thanks for your great tutorial.
I've been using this technique for a double knit scarf and I'm loving the edging...but why are my pieces coming apart? When you show your second example they don't look like they're separating like mine is...what the heck am I doing wrong?
+lissaplus3 I mean after you've cast on and are starting your very first row, do you knit the first two stitches together, do you slip them etc.? Your video starts at the LAST 2 stitches, so I am wondering what you do with the 1st 2.
+Rachel Mitchell The first two are explained as well. After you get the last two done and turn, the first two are explained. The same procedure happens every row.
I am having an issue with this edging: instead of both fabrics coming together, the entire edge on both sides are open and have holes, instead of being one piece. I don't understand where I am going wrong. Might you have another moment to help me figure this out?
okay I just noticed you said you missed a step.. that there was a pop up. I'm on my tab and for some reason I almost never get the user pops ): can you post your video link in the about description for me please, love?
+Shea Schroeder Do you mean this video link? th-cam.com/video/0-BLtYkAfa8/w-d-xo.html&feature=gp-n-y&google_comment_id=z12gsnvwdq2mglbeo22lzjr4snv2ztdpk04
Sonia Guzman Im sorry about that! I just want to make sure that you saw that box that popped up around 45 seconds, thats an important step I failed to mention so I put it in that box.
Thank you for your feedback. Please do me a favor and look at the description and see if I need to add more or is it not clear enough? I will rewrite if needed.
Hello! Im sorry to hear your having problems!! Check out the video at 1:40 and make sure the yarn is crossed over the other one like I show there. If they are not, please make sure to read the description for the video, this may help and if not, please come back and we can figure it out.
please, please show how to knit and purl after the turn!!! I'm missing something, because I have this ugly bar draping across the side after I purl the second stitch. I don't really know what I missed and I've watched this video 4 or 5 times. The parts I understand you take plenty of time to demonstrate, but when it gets to the part I'm not getting, you blaze right over it and the process is not repeated. Yikes. I need to see how to not end up with the stupid bar on the side!!!
Too bad I did not read the message under the video until I was a few rows into my knitting, lol. I just noticed that one side isn't connected. Oh well, I'll fix it by weaving my tails in there.
I cannot believe that Americans all seem to knit with the yarn on their RIGHT side! It is slow and looks very awkward. I prefer knitting in the Continental style with the yarn in my left hand--it's twice as fast and efficient. I can't even stand watching these videos.
I learned this technique from this video years ago, fell off knitting for a little while, forgot, and now I'm back to learn it again! Your demo is the best I've found.
This edging is the neatest I have yet seen, and your instructions are easy to follow. Thanks. And, yes, you do rock.

Great tutorial and a big plus was the country sounds: dog wolfing something down, hens clucking, bugs singing I'm saving this to my knitting playlist.
i know I'm kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good website to stream new tv shows online?
@Judson Brian I use FlixZone. Just search on google for it =)
@Dash Karson Yup, I've been watching on FlixZone for since march myself :)
@Dash Karson thanks, I signed up and it seems like a nice service =) I appreciate it!
@Judson Brian Happy to help :D

Great video. Wish I could knit that smoothly.
You are the best knitter for beginners. Me and my sister knew how to knit in seconds.. and im 11
Thank you for the update! This is what I was not doing correctly. I thought I was carrying the yarn the right way when bringing it over to the front, but apparently not. After testing with a few more rows on my swatch and paying closer attention, it's finally clicked. Love your videos!

Thanks from me too. This really explained it so clearly and I loved the "hi" from the yarn:)
Thank you! I need to keep this bookmarked, because if I don't knit for a while I forget and always have to find this video again. lol. One of the most useful knitting videos I've ever found on TH-cam.
Thank you for this brilliant tutorial. I'm a continental knitter yet thoroughly enjoyed your clear tutorial and learned a lot .
Thank you! You have made it so clear. I love your patient way of explaining this technique.

Thanks so much!! Just what I was looking for. Great video and explanation. More double knitting videos please! :)
THIS IS FANTASTIC... YOU ARE THE BEST!!! THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS!!!!

Shea Schroeder amazing and beautifu
So glad I found you! Now just to get my head around the entire front and back thing!
I have seen many of your videos and absolutely love them! Pay no attention to the nay-sayers! A wise person once said "hurting people are hurting people!" Keep doing what you're doing!

best background noises ever
Thank you! This is an excellent tutorial, the finished edge is gorgeous and it is inspiring to watch how easily you work the row. The background sounds are fun too! :)

So clean and nice work.awesome
That's brilliant and very easy to follow, thank you so much! (I didn't hear the crickets because I have no sound...). Looking forward to trying that method!
Thank you very much for this great explanation and demo!
I've been searching for a video like this. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this, now my edges won't look like trash |D
This is a fantastic video - thanks so much for the instruction! The one issue I had was the scraping beeping noises in the background of the audio - I don't think it's just my speakers, it's something staticky and shrill behind the voice.
Im sorry, those are frogs and crickets. They wouldnt behave for this. :) Im so glad you liked the instruction tho!
lissaplus3 Wow! Ok thanks, learned something new. We don't have any noisy insects here, I had no idea that's what crickets sound like. Haha
Excellent tutorial !! Thanks for making this video:)
I think it's explained well. I definitely get it now! Thanks.
So what do I do if I switch my colors? I'm doing a double knit scarf, and my striping (obviously) alternates. What should I do when flipping colors?
This is great. I love it. Been knitting for a very long time and have not seen much of this. So my big question is Where can you find patterns for the bookmarks etc. Sounds like a good Christmas gift next year. Thanks for your great tutorial.

You are welcome! Thank you for your complements!
Thank you! Just what I needed!
Thank you I like the way you teach. Can you please do a double knit 2 in 1 like knitting leg warmer 1 inside the other or sock on circular needles
Love your videos.
Thank you so much for this one - very useful :)
I tried to figure out how to do it for a long time. Thank you.
If you have a pattern that calls for a color changes at the beginning and endings of rows, would you cast on 2 extra stitches?
Thank you so much, this was perfect!
thats really cool!
Thanks again🌷
YOU ROCK!! THANK YOU!!
YAY!! Thank you!
@OneSweetShannon Im so glad! Thank you!
Can I do this with 3 different colors of yarn instead of 2
How pretty is that
This is great, but what do you do with the very first 2 stitches, before you get to the end of the row? Do you knit them together? slip them?
+drumlady7 I guess I dont understand your question. I go into detail on both the last two and the first two. Please explain.
What if there is a color change in the last stitch?
Really THANK YOU!!! WILL PRACTICE. WANT LEARN GOOD KNITTING.
thanks you one of few that knits like i do
HI how do you cast on the two colors? and how do you start off stitching?
Did you start with an even number of cast on stitches, or odd number?
It really depends on the pattern you are using, but the amount of the two colors, front and back, will match.
I am having an issue with this edging: instead of both fabrics coming together, the entire edge on both sides are open and have holes, instead of being one piece. I don't understand where I am going wrong. Might you have another moment to help me figure this out?
many thanks!
@mugginsquilts Thank you! Your welcome!
watched again was able toleratd noise to see howto get neat edge. thankns a buncj
Do you have brioche videos by any chance? Thanks
okay I just noticed you said you missed a step.. that there was a pop up. I'm on my tab and for some reason I almost never get the user pops ): can you post your video link in the about description for me please, love?

+lissaplus3 i dont know. . i clicked the link and it appears to have just redirected me back here. ill try again later, on my laptop.
+Shea Schroeder Well it directed you correctly. I thought you asked for a video link to this tutorial. What link did you want?
oh the one that you said was in a pop up
Great video, but have to play it without sound ; the crickets drive me nuts ;-)
I must be doing something wrong because mine are not connecting on the sides so I have two pieces of knitting not connected on the sides.
Sonia Guzman Im sorry about that! I just want to make sure that you saw that box that popped up around 45 seconds, thats an important step I failed to mention so I put it in that box.
lissaplus3 I just noticed that! I feel so stupid! I'm not sure I get it but I will try it. Thank you for answering me so quickly.
+lissaplus3 hi, I can't seem to see the popup. :(
+Prawninator Hey there!! It basically just directs you to look and read the description under the video. It will explain things.
@madaketmom LOL!! Thank you! Yes Im "lissaplus2"
@thejonathanphillips Im sorry!!
Thank you!!! Im so happy! If you have access to facebook, Im caston4u. Come see me and show me your guys work!!
please, please show how to knit and purl after the turn!!! I'm missing something, because I have this ugly bar draping across the side after I purl the second stitch. Hello!!
Do you mean you want a video on this technique? (see link)
ISSUEfall06/FEATextreme2in1
Dreadful sound, suggest filming indoors for other videos.
very annoying screeching background noise ruins a good tutorial
Those are crickets. Not screeching. The soothing sounds of nature in the country when it's warm out. :)
Elisa Thompson I like that sounds. Nature 100%.
there is a background noise ruining your video.
