Nice to see this comment! I just posted: One might well sing this about Fischer-Dieskau himself. “An Herrn Fischer-Dieskau... O Gott, für diesen Meistersänger, ich danke dir!” Yes, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau has “den Himmeln bessrer Zeiten für uns erschlosst” indeed!
I visited Franz Schubert's birth house in Vienna and listened to this piece (also Fischer Dieskau's) while looking outside his family's window. It was one of my dream places. I don't know. I felt so connected.
I am doing this piece in my voice lessons and his amazing diction is very helpful for learning the piece. If you need a good example of german diction, this guy is your man.
You could also listen to Elisabeth Schwarzkopf (an other great example)! Fritz Wunderlich or Hermann Prey are other great sources! Only to name the greatest besides DFD!

There is nothing to say. I am stum a combination with wonderful voice and a clear distinction that perhabs only Diskau con bring forward. And what a wonderful pianoplaying where he all the time follewed the singer.
Gerald Moore is the wonderful accompanist. There books and recordings by him on "The Unashamed Accompanist." Available on Amazon, maybe in your library. Another youtube video of him explaining the lyrics before he plays for Elisabeth Schwarzkopf to sing "An Die Musik." He collaborated with all the great voices of his time, it seems.

That unique bari/tenor sound that Fischer Dieskau produced and, of course, his impeccable interpretations made him the greatest singer ever of Schubert lieder and quite possibly of all Art Songs.
Even more interesting is when you bring in female singers ! Bumbry is heartbreakingly expressive in this music ; it is almost impossible to believe it is the same artist who stands up against High Priests !
Of course, Good interpretations in young age DFD. I really like his complete Schubert album vol-1 & vol-2 "An die Musik" with Moore. He was reset himself, and discovered again the joy of singing for Schubert Leader. ^^
Dietrich Fiscer Dieskau e Franz Schubert, com um magnífico criador ao piano, nos dão maravilhoso presente que nunca será esquecido. Parabéns!!!! Repassem por favor. Edson M B Mello
Schubert is delightful. I think to him as sort of a "Chopin of the voice", as he was able to say a lot just with a brief Lied, demonstrating you don't always need an Opera to go in depth.

So... how long have we all been putting off learning this music for contest? Personally, I've only procrastinated for a week this time around, but this is an absolute first.
It is transposed for different voices. If Fischer-Dieskau were a tenor, he would have sung it in D! A basso would sing it in B flat or A. The same for mezzos and contraltos!

Went straight to youtube to find it :) Unorthodox is a very good show that shows the horrors of being trapped in a religious sect and the effort it takes to break out of one. Imagine being locked in a cult, knowing about the modern world, you can even see it from your window, but you're not allowed to interact with it or even have an education. Hope more people break out of religious sects around the world and embrace rationality, science, art and free expression.
This gets me in the feels every time I hear it. I play it by ear at least one a day. Utter simplicity. Sublime beauty.

Yes, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau has “den Himmeln bessrer Zeiten für uns erschlosst” indeed!
I've first heard this in 1973 and have since never stopped listening to Schubert Lieder, usually sung by E. Schwarzkopf or D. Fischer-Dieskau😊

The sweet simplicity of Schubert's music tones down Schober's florid yet heartfelt lyrics just enough to make this the most exquisite of hymns.

Beautiful. Everytime I watch to this, I like to imagine he’s really Private Pyle from Full Metal Jacket.
You could do a recital of Schubert Lieder with Gerald Moore sans rehearsal! Probably the finest and most flexible accompanist of the 20th century!
