It'd be super fun to see some FGO gameplay. As has been said already, it's very much in the visual novel style, though I'll also honestly say that some of the early story chapters suffered a bit of an identity crisis, in which the writers weren't fully certain of how story-intensive the game was supposed to be, and can be a bit rough to get through. Many of the chapters following that, however, are absolutely phenomenal, and worth every word read on the way to them. Also, you can get Mordred, and really that's just a win, you know? Lostbelts are the possible futures that should have been but erased because of humanity hitting a dead end. It means that the progression of human Civilization have halted on those alternate futures. In arc 2 of the story, the aim is to restore proper human history and to prevent the other lostbelts from replacing it. Even if it means sacrificing the people from those lostbelts.

Let me give you some context of how much story and shit exist for this game. A guy I watched since I was in high school back in 2010 started this game back 3 years ago as a playthrough and he didn't even do every event since he missed 2 years... His play through part count is at 400+ now with every episode he uploaded being around an hour or so long. To give you context of what the longest story chapter will be is Lostbelt 6 that has about the same length as the original VN in word count coming out this year State side. For a live event when the were doing a celebration of Lostbelt 6 release they showed a printed copy of how much text is in the story with each paper with printed dialogue front and back. It was about as thick as all 3 Lord of the Rings books. In Japan, we will be having the 8th anniversary around August. The games current roster size is about 350+. The game if you started right now you can basically play continuously without stopping because they made the cost to do the story mode either 0 or half off meaning you will just be able to blitz through shit and even then if you actually sit down to read it all it honestly might take you a month.
The mobile game *is* the full Grand Order story, it’s the source material for that whole spinoff. So yes, if you want to learn more about Fate/Grand Order, playing the mobile game is suggested… just spend responsibly of course, the biggest investment will be time rather than money as there’s quite a bit of grinding to fully max out your characters, but the good thing is realistically any team can clear the story, just higher rarity characters tend to make it easier.
FGO mobile is the original source of the Grand Order story, so it has everything. Basically, you go to various places that are undergoing turmoil due to spoiler events, and the world generally summons heroic spirits to those places to attempt to deal with it. You come along, either alone, with Mash only, or sometimes with other servants you've bonded with, team up with the servant summoned by the world, to deal with the situation. So each sub area (singularities, lost belts, etc) has its own cast with a few carry overs plus its own story tying into an over arcing story. Chaldea itself generally has all servants you've encountered running around, so the protag has a LOT of servants under their command, although they can't deploy them all at once.

When you see what you called as collaboration event of FGO, you should know that it would be within same author's (Nasu) universe. So yeah, safely to say 90% of that you suspect as collab characters are originally a servant rather than outsider character.
I don't see anyone else saying so, but the manga of Fate/Grand Order is just an adaptation of the story sections of the Mobile Game. You don't need to read the manga at all to understand the story if you follow the game, but they do add a bit more visual for the scenes happening in the game and give Fujimaru a bit more shine. The story really starts picking up around Camelot and Babylon which you probably already enjoyed in the anime too.
Only thing gotta say after watching is recommending Otaku Dai kun. He has an entire series on telling the lore of fate series, thing I like is that he will tell backstory first, then go through 'game pov' to see how a first time player would see it.
I haven't seen anyone actually try to explain this, but the Fate series is all about parallel timelines. Fate Grand Order is a timeline that intersects with many others, but its it own separate thing and what happens in it has no effect on the others. Yes, the FGO game is the original source of the story. The manga came after and the show/movies came after that. FGO can be played without spending money because unlike most other gacha games, every character can be good. Well, except Phantom of the Opera. That man needs hella buffs. Regardless, I hope if you decide to give the game a shot, you do it for the story. If you do it for the characters, well as they say "Welcome to hell." Oh and also, Garden of Sinners, Tsukihime, and any of Nasu's other works technically DO take place in the same world. Just on different timelines. Like I said earlier, its all about different timelines.

Some of the characters/masters from Fate aren’t really the masters themselves but are fused with servants who aren’t strong enough or are to strong (in case of gods) to manifest for themselves.
Some of those characters have the servant personality in control like Ishtar, Muramasa and Parvati while in other cases the master personality is in control like Kirei, Waver and Jinako.
It'd be super fun to see some FGO gameplay. As has been said already, it's very much in the visual novel style, though I'll also honestly say that some of the early story chapters suffered a bit of an identity crisis, in which the writers weren't fully certain of how story-intensive the game was supposed to be, and can be a bit rough to get through. Many of the chapters following that, however, are absolutely phenomenal, and worth every word read on the way to them.

Let me give you some context of how much story and shit exist for this game. A guy I watched since I was in high school back in 2010 started this game back 3 years ago as a playthrough and he didn't even do every event since he missed 2 years... His play through part count is at 400+ now with every episode he uploaded being around an hour or so long. To give you context of what the longest story chapter will be is Lostbelt 6 that has about the same length as the original VN in word count coming out this year State side. For a live event when the were doing a celebration of Lostbelt 6 release they showed a printed copy of how much text is in the story with each paper with printed dialogue front and back. It was about as thick as all 3 Lord of the Rings books.
In Japan, we will be having the 8th anniversary around August. The games current roster size is about 350+. The game if you started right now you can basically play continuously without stopping because they made the cost to do the story mode either 0 or half off meaning you will just be able to blitz through shit and even then if you actually sit down to read it all it honestly might take you a month.
The dates on the lostbelt description are when that timeline diverge from our timeline aka the correct timeline aka the Pan Human History
The mobile game *is* the full Grand Order story, it’s the source material for that whole spinoff. So yes, if you want to learn more about Fate/Grand Order, playing the mobile game is suggested… just spend responsibly of course, the biggest investment will be time rather than money as there’s quite a bit of grinding to fully max out your characters, but the good thing is realistically any team can clear the story, just higher rarity characters tend to make it easier.
FGO mobile is the original source of the Grand Order story, so it has everything. Basically, you go to various places that are undergoing turmoil due to spoiler events, and the world generally summons heroic spirits to those places to attempt to deal with it. You come along, either alone, with Mash only, or sometimes with other servants you've bonded with, team up with the servant summoned by the world, to deal with the situation. So each sub area (singularities, lost belts, etc) has its own cast with a few carry overs plus its own story tying into an over arcing story. Chaldea itself generally has all servants you've encountered running around, so the protag has a LOT of servants under their command, although they can't deploy them all at once.

If I could say one thing, the FGO developers are constantly fighting censorship of all kinds of sites.
I don't see anyone else saying so, but the manga of Fate/Grand Order is just an adaptation of the story sections of the Mobile Game. You don't need to read the manga at all to understand the story if you follow the game, but they do add a bit more visual for the scenes happening in the game and give Fujimaru a bit more shine. The story really starts picking up around Camelot and Babylon which you probably already enjoyed in the anime too.

I haven't seen anyone actually try to explain this, but the Fate series is all about parallel timelines. Fate Grand Order is a timeline that intersects with many others, but its it own separate thing and what happens in it has no effect on the others.

FGO can be played without spending money because unlike most other gacha games, every character can be good. Well, except Phantom of the Opera. That man needs hella buffs.
