Hey guys! This can be found under Ground Units, in the Fortifications Category, and you set the TACAN Freq and Band the same as a Carrier or other Ship! While this may seem like a small addition that snuck under the radar, it will open up a lot of new possibilities for DCS Mission Creators to help with historical to what-if missions! Navigation to Russian/Soviet style airfields as well as FARPS should be a lot easier!
@Spudknocker, another little nerd fact, the USAF Special Tactics Teams mounted portable TACANs on ATVs to make them even more mobile. They used a smaller antenna set, but it was the same idea.
This portable TACAn is also available in Stable version since the last update. Fully functional. We have already used in several squadron missions and works real nice.
Nice! i knew it was there but I thought it still did not work... Cool findings Mr SK ;) Specially useful for the F-5E Tigger II that has only tacan and NDB for Navigation! flight computer or inertial system.
Hi Spud, Very interesting addition for the mission editor! Thanks for reporting on it. Maybe you could add (or do another video) showing how to use it in the mission editor?
@@zackbenson7658 How do you use it? There is nothing coming up in the Advanced Waypoint Actions like there is for a ship or a plane to edit and add a TACAN frequency too. Any help would be appreciated.
Awesome man ! Hey I would love to know your thoughts on DCS and VR. I’m on the fence with getting one but I know there’s a lot of sacrifices. It’s either gonna be a 34” monitor and tracker Ir or VR headset. Would love to know the eta on E D ‘s move to VR performance support. So confused what to do. Thx man 👍🏻
I'm confused. This has been around for some time and it does work. Been using it for NTTR missions. What changed? Please tell me you no longer need an ogg file for the morse code.
There are no man portable TACAN, yet. It is a project in development, but not there yet. The thing shown in DCS looks like the AN/TRN-26 it's portable, but not something a man could lug around. I was in an Air National Guard Air Traffic Control unit (297th ATCS) when we had this equipment. Infact, it was a whole deployable package that requires at least two 2 1/2 ton trucks and two big MEP type generators on trailers with power production specialists and maintainers to setup and run/monitor the TACAN. This is no Special Forces activity...🤣 This is part of the USAF DATCALS mission (Deployable ATC & Landing Systems) which includes mobile tower (AN/TSW-7), mobile Approach Control Radar (AN/MPN-14K) and the TACAN package. About 70 people. It takes 2x C-5's to deploy this unit...
Depends on the terrain and plane module your flying. F18 and persian gulf for instance I would recommend no less than an i5 5th gen processor 8 GB ram, gtx 960 minimum You won't have much fun if your not getting a decent frame rate and some sort of head tracking/VR and a decent hotas/joystick goes a long way.

MrChaosProf LOL!
Ingressing in the weeds
Haha 👍🏻

Fantastic. I hate airfields without TACAN. 👍
Such an amazingly great addition! Now we just need the portable ICLS station as well for the Hornet to get some sort of ILS for ashore bases.
Rainbow Dash or... or... FCLP’s!
Cant wait to try this out!
Its pretty cool!
This was added a while ago, I have been using it for maybe 2 months now. Still a very good video!
TacticalError really? The object has been in there for like a year but I’ve never gotten it to work until after this update
@@Spudknocker I have had it working for at least a month, I had it in a mission for me and my friends since on syria launch day.
@@TacticalError You're right, the TTS3030 has worked correctly since the SuperCarrier build. Pud is confused.
Yeah, same I use this on my airfield without tacan already, it’s been out for a while just sayin
@@Spudknocker same here...I use it since Syria has been released. I discovered it accidentaly. But great video anyway :)
Spud thank you so much for sharing this, I didn't even see it in the release notes!
Because it was added in an update end of last year/beginning of this year... 😇
shagrat47 I haven’t gotten it to work until this update
Never did much with it actually. So may be did not work as TACAN in MP.
Literally 20 minutes ago I saw that and got very curious
Its been in there for awhile but now it works!

ohh ... just saw your additional comments detailing its use and where to find it. Thats what I need to try it out :)

It's the simple things that really matters. this will be useful. thanks
Pretty cool! Where is it in the mission editor?
Under Ground Units - Fortifications
I found it! I found it! Best day ever!
Thank you.

I was just thinking of this.
How can have a TACAN beacon on Incrilik AB to work on my carrier breaks.
Thanks mate !
Nice video, aaas always :) Correct me if I'm wrong but I doubt Viggen can use TCN. Cool feature nevertheless!
Wasn't that added a few updates ago? I can remember GR using/describing it awhile?
We've had it for a while now. 2 Months? At least 1 Month.
How do you get it to work? There doesn't seem to be any way to set the TACAN frequency.
What's the range of this unit (in-game) ?
How do you update to open beta and what videos would you recommend?
Now, show us how you keep making that rock disappear and reappear on the lower left of the screen from 0:58 - 1:30. :)

Is there a way to make this usable by all sides? Red, Blue, Neutral, etc?
Does the new terrain engine update only apply to high settings?

The TACAN modeled in DCS is the AN/TRN-41, which is man-portable, and air droppable. Much smaller than the TRN-26 monster.
Finally !!! :)
Its been out there for a few weeks, its under fortification in the editir, add a tacan channel for it to work.
How do you add a TACAN channel to it?
You California boys and POT lol.
Carter Lulay maybe should have used like PRT! Haha

It's correctly called Palmeera, not how you say it :)))
It is available quite some time
It hasnt worked tho and didnt have a texture
