Sony’s 85 f1.8 at $350-$400 used is a GREAT buy for a fast, light, quick focusing portrait lens. Have owned two of them and highly recommended on the used market. It does have a bit of CA but that can be delt with in post. What is a step up, and I mean a BIG step up, is the Sigma Art DG DN 85 f1.4. The Sigma focuses quicker than the GM 85 1.4 and blows away the Sony 85 1.8 in every way; noticeably sharper at 1.4 than the Sony is at 1.8 with far superior bokeh, not much heavier and no CA, but it cost more, quite a bit more. But, if you want the best 85mm e-mount go Sigma.
I have watched reviews that have backed up what you're saying. People seem to really dig it! I aimed to get the most compact and capable 85mm for this system I could which is why I went with the Sony. Hope I can try the Sigma sometime! Thanks for checking out the video 🙏
@chow With your a7CII (or even an a7III) the Sigma 85 DG DN, which can be had for as low as around $800 US used, is so much better than the excellent Sony 1.8 that it’ll knock your proverbial sox off. You’d be amazed! Trading up from your Sony would only set you back about $400 net for what may be one of the best e-mount lenses of any focal length (the 35mm GM and 135mm Art may tie it for first place). The Sigma is a bit larger but it’s not much larger sans lens hood and it is relatively light weight too. I recommend you go for it! Cheers!
I chose the Zeiss Batis Sonnar 1.8 T* which I got used in the fall of 2023 for US $550 (taxes included) in excellent condition and I can highly recommend it, a Lens with very good build quality (better then the Sony !) and very good images quality. I do not trust the build "quality" of the non G and GM Sony Lenses.
Just picked one up on FB marketplace for $200 and now I’m watching reviews. Can’t wait to use it 🤙🏽
You're gonna dig it! Can't beat the size.
The edit makes almost everything at this lens...Congrats!
🙏
Bro this video is definitely something I needed to see. Thanks!! Awesome photos too!
Thanks for checking it out! Really dig this little lens...very happy with it!
happy with it❤😊
It's a great lens! I would find it hard justifying moving on to the newly announced 85mm 1.4 II
Such a great lens for what you used it for - it was fun watching you work it! Field tests FTW!
Everybody crushed! Thanks for everything!
Great information! Incredible photos!

Getting this!
It’s very worth it!

This is my go to lens. I often reduce the brightness to have more texture.
It’s so compact and sharp…almost perfect!
Great eBay score! I’ve gotten some gear off eBay and never had a problem with sellers yet 🤞🏻
I've actually been amazed at how great the condition of the products I've bought of there have been in. Highly recommend to all!

I’ll look that one up! I’ve never used a Zeiss lens.
lol this lens does not need to upgrade
@@sdhs172sj they just dropped the 85 1.4 GM v2 and honestly it’s a hard sell to me when this lens is so compact, high quality, and affordable.
