Love this video. Love this feature. I will be doing this myself. Also, I love the fact that you did this in real-time for us so we can see it not work and have you quickly troubleshoot. Too many of these types of videos just jump right to the end of “voila, it works perfectly” and they don’t show you a few crucial details that it’ll take you hours to figure out on your own. Thanks for this Joe. Nice job.

I'm not a professional producer so I don't usually go in for the "workflow" stuff, but this is one that will definitely keep me focused on the music. And it only took 10 minutes to do my top 7!
    (In case anyone was wondering, 1 - Pro EQ, 2 - Compressor, 3 - UAD LA - 2A, 4 - Room Reverb, 5 - Saturation Knob, 6 - De-Esser, 7 - Analog Delay)

I regret never digging into macros. Absolutely brilliant.

Great video. Is there any chance we could get real time studio one strip silence like logic and pro tools in the future pls? It's a bit difficult to get the studio one strip silence right as you don't see the results in real time

Perfect timing, just last week I decided to mess with the macros. One thing not mentioned in this video that is that you can assign MIDI keyboard buttons to macros too. You have to do this through Assign Command in the External Devices window. For me this has been a huge time saver. My MIDI keyboard has 48 buttons that I have never had a use for until I started assigning macros to them. Great video!

Great idea. Would love to see a tweak to the macros menu so you can assign the shortcut right there instead of having to close it first.

Cool video. Great that you showed the whole experience, including the glitches, because it makes the process stick in the mind. When people demonstrate things like this and it all works perfectly first time there is nothing to remember so it goes in one ear and out the other so to speak. This video is how real life works! i.e. not always smoothly so it is easy to identify with and encourages me to try it out.

This is a game changer, thank you for posting. I recently lost vision in 1 eye and only have 2 degree's left in the other but now I can easily populate my mixer tracks with all the plugins needed without having to see (If I lose the rest), so this with my new SSL UC1 for EQ;ing is invaluable. Keep up the awesome work, it sometimes helps people in ways you might not realize :)

I'll definitely set this up! I waste a lot of time finding and inserting the same FX. Thanks a bunch Joe!

Why do you have to double click a plug-in to open it and one click to expand? If you time this wrong you always end up with an expanded plugin slot instead of opening the GUI of the plugin (drives me nutty)

I agree, there's no reason one click shouldn't be enough. We should be able to choose how this behaves.

I wonder if there"s a way to link plugin parameters between two instances of the same plugin. Is that possible in Studio One?

It should be possible to add a shotcut when creating a macro. Has to do woth workflow.

In Reaper you right click a plugin, choose your key command and you're done.
Hopefully Studio One make this feature way less convoluted!

Another great feature in studio one.
Question: is there a way to make it open on a preset other than default?

Wow Joe, are you running out of S1 topics ? I recently saw a video from Gregor on the exact same topic and Lucas has a video on his channel as well !!

Thats a cool idea, just the few most used plugins and use the normal ways to add other ones

stay with me - I like shortcuts but not the normal kind of shortcuts. I can not remember if the shortcut for whatever was alt-shift-ctrl-F5 or without shift or whatever and what is even alt-shift-ctrl-F5 in the first place. So I'm a Vimmer, and nerdy Joe might know what I'm talking about. in Vim I have so called "normal commands". Let's translate that to Studio One.
Imagine you want to add something, like a track or plugin, so instead of remembering all kinds of combinations of alt shift ctrl + the key A, we would only have to remember that 'a' starts the 'add commands', followed by for example 't' for track, so the keysequence would be 'at'. But you can come up with whatever you want as it should be configurable. So for example 'aa' -> add audio track, 'am' -> add midi track, 'ae' -> add equalizer, 'ac' -> add compressor. 'dt' -> delete track, 'de' -> delete selected event, and so on and on. These mnemonics would be much easier to remember compared to weird alt shift ctrl combinations. I created a feature request for that too.
Of course also combinations of 3 or 4 keys would/should be possible, not only 2 as in my examples.

I did this a while ago but found it too cumbersome and you start running out of shortcuts.
If you have a Streamdeck or other macro pad, create a multiaction button, the first command is "add insert" (give this a keyboard shortcut), then the next command is text entry like "Fat Channel", tick the option "press enter after text". Now you can copy this to more buttons and change the text entry to the name of the corresponding plugin. This is way easier to manage and it only uses one keyboard shortcut.

Customizable hotkeys work wonderfully for me: I have 30+ custom commands just for plugins, that's more than enough for my daily drivers. But then again, I used to play Starcraft back in the day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Question though.......is there a way to set up commands for third party plugins?
EDIT: Just watched another video on how to make commands for third party ones.

You don’t love efficiency because studio one 6 fucking blows. You have to watch hours of your own videos to learn how to use it. Ever since I installed this my computer constantly blue screens and my computers audio is completely fucked. 0/10 product.

This presenter isn't likeable whatsoever. He's arrogant, gives terrible advice, and goes off on anyone who questions his top down mixing advice on his home studio corner. Joe is a total clown 🤡
