- Marvel&Ponder over on Tumblr has expanded upon the initial question of whether Sunburst will eventually become Starswirl :)
Original article: marvelandponde...
My Little Pony Characters and Images belong to Hasbro.
That could explain why Celestia was smiling at Sunburst a lot and said "you may be more of a wizard than you think"
Clare Nicke yes
There is one way to be certain. Put Sunburst in a room full of hats and tell him to pick his favorite. If he chooses the silly-looking one with bells we've found Starswirl the Bearded.
David Weiss or Undertaker. don't ask and no not the WWE wrestler
In MLP, I've always considered spells to be like songs. Starlight has a great singing voice while Sunburst is a great composer. Notice that no pony, Twilight or even Starlight at the moment is shown to actually write spells. They all use pre-written ones from the library or modify existing ones. Sunburst, I think, is the only one that can hold the title of wizard in modern day equestria because he seems like the only character with the knowledge to actually write new spells from scratch.
Idk if he's Starswirl but if you consider Sunburst being a mentor to an alicorn princess, Flurry, then history has already repeated itself.
Starlight and Sunburst having foal? I have been shipping those two for quite a while.
Sonic Gamer VINYL AND NEON'S SON TWILIGHT SKY WHO GOT LOST IN TIMELINE HE'S SEEN AGAIN IN THE BACKGROUND
I wonder about Starswirl dissappearing...
Couldnt it be the other way around?
Like, Starswirl the Bearded did do a an experiment regarding time travel and tried to open a portal into the future - but the spell goes off wrong and sucks him in, causing him to be practically reborn in the future as Sunburst. Because the Time Spell is still around and fueled by Sunbursts magic, he lacks the power to cast any other spell, but still has his talent for magic in theory.
A bit like Rincewind in the Discworld-Books, who couldnt use any magic because of that one powerfull spell in his mind.
Patrick Reimann That is plausible.
Patrick Reimann Thank you for the DiscWorld reference, lol
Your theory is so plausible that it can be cannon.
Interesting, but then how would it be plausible for him to have parents with such similar genetic traits in the present day? Since they were present in the season 5 finale, we know has parents (or had, they could be dead by now). If he de-aged and went to present day Equestria, how could his biological parents be present in that period? Unless they just happen to look very similar in their phenotype, but are actually his adoptive parents, which is possible, I guess. But I still don't see exactly how that would work.
Star - if you follow the soul/magic theory, he would have entered at a point / in a place with a body already there. Either through genetic ties (great great great grandchild/grandnephew) or magical ties (similar amount of potential talent)
However, he would have forgotten a lot via that method, since while his spirit and magic remain, his memories don't exist in this brain.
Basic reincarnation theory at its finest - the soul chooses the body before it is born, and knows the spiritual potential of that body. There need not be a genetic resemble to your past life if you choose an unborn child, who will still resemble their parents, and who will become your parents when you are born.
The last time i was this early.
Starswirl wasn't even known.
It's so great to see a friend of mine's editorial get the recognition it deserves, and it was cool of you to dedicate an entire video to it Doc. Personally, I've never been fond of "This character is really THIS character!" theories (ie Discord being Starswirl), but this, really caught my attention. Because it makes an eerie amount of sense. It's not this one thing two characters seem to have In common that gets blown out of proportion, it's a bunch of little things that are so strangely similar, it almost seems like it was planned to have this conclusion. And even if it's not, it's still a fun theory.
And theory or not, the idea of Starswirl the Bearded being an excellent spell writer, but not a great spell caster would explain SO MUCH! Would that not put the dozens of questions fans have asked about his infamous cutie mark spell into perspective?
Mm... Sunburst's cutie.mark talent is probably bringing order to chaos (fixing things or something like that, considering he got his cutiemark when he fixed the mess Starlight created). Also, *most* unicorns only do little magic that's somehow related to their special thing. He can't usually cast spells because well, everything is already in harmony, there's really nothing to *fix*. If he were to end up back in time, at the time of Starswirl the bearded (who was mentor to Clover the Clever before the Hearth's Warming). A time before they learned harmony. So yes, I think it IS possible Sunburst went that far back in time. But maybe he wasn't Starswirl. He was Starswirl's father. (Starlight Shimmer being the mother. Sunburst couldn't CAST the spell so he needs to take someone else with him right?)
perhaps sunbirst improves his magical abilities in the future and then gets sent back in time by the spell and when he is stuck in the past he tries to recreate the scroll that sent him back in time, but then starts mentoring celestia and luna and abandons it and decides to stay in the past
question though. Sunburst is orange with white socks. Starswirl is grey/blue with no socks. And the socks wouldn't get darker. And I noticed that we never see starswirl's cutie mark.
Autymn Maas That could be due to Starburst needing to hide himself. He uses a spell to cover/change his coat and end up looking like that. He could have gotten in trouble or caused a stir going back in time.
well.. that's my thought.
Cameo Shadowness that's a good thought actually.
Autymn Maas Thanks.
We see his mark when he was young.
That my basis of why this theory is just wrong. They look nothing alike. plus if you go by the comics he invented the mirror (yesi know comic canon is not show canon but still) plus is just a dumb way to have a self prophecy since he had to invent time travel to make sure his future self oculd time travel to invent time travle
PARADOX!
I had always compared Starswirl to Albert Einstein and in some ways you can compare Sunburst to him too, they both work in the theoretical.
I never realized, you used my art, I'm so happy!! xD
I like the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" rule for time travel. -"Anything you could possibly do in the past...you already have."
It's possible he might become the next Starswirl, or could it possible he's a reincarnation of him.
PhantomDragon3
Maybe a descendant?
Reincarnation.
anime lover 17 yeah that was autocorrect
+PhantomDragon3
I wasn't correcting you. I was saying that I like the idea of reincarnation.
anime lover 17 oh ok
those legends of magic comics with Sunburst reading Starswirls' old stories just keep hinting at connections and similarities to them being the same so much, especially that comic about Mistymane. XD
Starswirl created the magic mirror(s) and battled the Sirens. That seems to be evidence that he has significant magical power rather than just brains.
I doubt Starswirl is Sunburst, with his lack of natural magical talent, I find it highly unlikely he could have banished the Dazzlings. Talent in MLP seems pretty much built in, you either have it, or you don't. Trixie had to use a cursed amulet to get stronger, and there's no indication Starswirl used magic-enhancing items like Sunburst would have to in order to have dimensional-hopping power.
Greatsaiyakirby But, with practice someone could get a lot better. Trixie did a transmutation spell after being taught by Starlight. Who knows what Sunburst may let with the right teacher. plus Starswirl is much older than Sunburst and him banishing the Daslings could be after years worth of training.
Wonderfully read as usual, Doctor :)
He went back in time, became starswirl, botched a spell and became discord, and because he's the god of chaos he can exist with another version himself
What an interesting theory.

"Timetravel, causal loops, self consistency principals,"
On second thought I'll just rewatch all of brony D&D for the fourth time while waiting for part 15.
Hold on. If Sunburst went back in time with the modified version of Starswirl's spell, then goes on to write Starswirl's original spell, which is then modified by Starlight, where did the spell originally come from? *Who composed Beethoven's 5th?!*
It's official. The Doc ships Starburst.
I can't even be mad.
Sunburst I my favourite pony he needs more episodes featuring him.
it's been 59 episodes since his first appearence
I have another theory... what if Starswirl is the son of Sunburst and Starlight?
You can change the past but it will never become your past. Time will just split.
I don't have much on Starswirl, but I have put together a theory on how the time spell worked, especially since everyone was wondering how Starlight never knew of the outcomes of the other worlds.
in The Journal of the Two Sisters, I always fealt that they were implying that Starswirl recognized Twilight's cutie mark when they find the Tree of Harmony.
I've just been snooping around the internet and found the season 7 finally has something to do with Starswirl
Off topic: do you think it's possible that AJ's parents are alive and being used as Chrysalis's hidden emergency love stash for years? Kinda like the Blade Movies, vampires tried to preserve humans for their blood instead of killing them for a quick drink. With the AJ Parent episode depicting it as a flashback story (so as to keep them out of the present and keep the fans guessing) it would be interesting to see them as love-drained zombie soldiers when not being kept alive in her cocoons. AJ already hates Chrysalis for tricking her into turning her back on Twilight at the royal wedding (though she is the only one to apologize afterwards) so having her vs Chrysalis would be interesting. Chrysalis has a tendency to make enemies she vows vengeance on: Celestia for damaging her, Twilight for foiling her plans, Starlight and Thorax for taking her kingdom and subjects from her, etc. (Fun Fact: Starswirl is the one who unintentionally released the Changelings into the world.)
Perhaps Flurry would have a major magical accident and send Sunburst into the past, thereby turning him into Starswirl?

Did anyone else notice that the magic Starswirl was using in the comic panel shown here was the same as the magic that pulled the scroll into the time portal? That may be a small hint to something there, or just a coincidence.
The butterfly effect is commonly used to explain the creation of parallel universes within the multi-verse theory, however many forget some of the time paradoxes that are created through altering the past. Applying the self-consistency principle to the butterfly effect helps to reduce and/or eliminate the probability of a time paradox, however it also causes any parallel dimensions that were created to become temporary (at best), which in turn dismisses much of the multi-verse theory overall.
I would have had him introduced for a short scene with Twilight at the end of Season 3. Once Twilight completed the spell and ended up in the 'starry zone', it would be Starswirl, not Celestia, there to greet her. He would explain a bit of history we already knew, "I crafted over 200 spells in my time" and such, followed by "I started that spell wanting to understand my own destiny, but I no matter what I tried, I couldn't complete it. Friendship is something I acknowledge, but never put above spell work and creation. You have the means to become greater than even I, and there is someone here who can show you why." He would fade out as Celestia shows up, remarking that Starswirl was always a very private Pony that didn't like interacting for very long, yet another reason he couldn't understand friendship like Twilight. Celestia would then go into her ballad reviewing Twilight's Journey over the past year (because that's Seasons 1-3), and Congratulates Twilight, as Twilight's own Magic (Why people thought it was Tia's doing is beyond me) changed Twilight into an Alicorn. Then proceed with the explanation in front of the ReMane 5 and Spike, followed by the coronation.
It'd be a short scene, but it would finally give context to Starswirl's character for the show itself!! Also, it would help with the theory that went Starswirl disappeared, it was to another realm entirely, such as this one where he found peace in the solitude or something... I don't know. Something like that...
when was it ever said that Sunburst was Flurry's magic advisor? He's just a crystaller of every pony in the empire
Maybe sunburst fell to the past in a magic accident, pretended to be starswirl to prevent altering the past, then realising he IS the starswirl her studied. His spell studies and magic experiments continue until the cutiemark restoration spell backfired and probably turned into discord. Who know...it would be a nice twist
But hey, that's just a theory
A FILM THEORY!
he could be Starswirl's great-great grandson, although Sunburst is an important wizard-in-training
That's an interesting theory!
I hope we never find out much about Star Swirl. I like him being a mystery, like how we don't know much about ancient civilization.
In the Journal of The Two Sisters, it says that Starswirl and 9 or 10 unicorns would raise the sun, then all the unicorns except Starswirl loose their magic permanently. That's when Celestia and Luna learn that they can raise and set the sun and moon.
The time spell=Gargoyle 's Phoenix Gate 2.0!
He might've just...died? He was a mere mortal. The thing about mortals is that they die.
There may be one possibility, it is that not all of Starswirl ledges that are done by one stallion or rather a group of unicorns that are similar and that modern ponies are confusing them and just lumping them together. Like Robbin Hood
Um, did you all forget the part of the Cutie Remark episode where it was explained how the Tree and Map of Harmony may have been responsible for keeping Twilight and Spike who they were despite the changed timelines?
Am I the only one hoping for the bootstrap paradox?
You may think with this theory the Bootstrap Paradox may play a part in it as well
I think that the butterfly effect meaning something you do in the past has repercussions such as flashpoint from flash or marty McFly altering time in Back to the future including the time line where biff rules hill valley, would be a better explanation of the time travel working in the show. am I making sense probably probably not but its an interesting thought.
Good theory, Doctor Wolf! However, I have a different theory. After viewing "Shadow Play", it's obvious Sunburst isn't Starswirl. We would've seen the two recognize each other or strike a "left brain right brain" sort of dynamic. The proof to your connection might have to do with Sunburst's ancestry. We've met Sunny's mother but had no clue how he failed magic school or why he took residency in a wizard's cottage. Maybe Sunburst is a grandson to Starswirl. You relayed the similarities, so I won't repeat. He probably tried to bring him back or use one of Swirl's spells and got in huge trouble because it caused massive damage. Do you remember what his mom said about him being a pony who always had a plan? This means Sunburst may have been an ambitious bookworm who wanted to be like his grandfather, and his mom kept going overboard in struggling to help him. Maybe the reason why the powerful wizard didn't recognize his grandson is due to how the Pillars went missing before Sunburst or any of the Mane Six were even born. As to why he lived in the cottage at the Crystal Empire, maybe there was a wizard there who took Sunburst in as an apprentice but died before the prodigy could complete his training. If what I say is true, this implies a deeper reason to why Sunburst felt so determined to free the Pillars and forgot the Pony of Shadows. He wanted to meet the missing link to his past. I could be wrong, so don't go hating or assume I'm correct.
Some how, Sunburst gets transported back to the past.
He lives out his entire life AS Starswirl in the past.
He is then returned to the present, and in his form. (In theory, time can flow at different rates based on chronoton flow rate.)
Very doable based on theoretical models.
It wouldn't surprise me if Starswirl was somehow related to Sunburst, if the time-travel theories aren't cannon.
I personally prefer to call it the Oedipus Effect because referring to Greek tragedy is fun.
Hey Dok Wolf and fellow Bronies.
I have a Theorie why there are only six Elements of Harmony and in Equestria Girls there are now seven.
Sure, on one Hand, it is because Sunset needed one.
But If you look at the Nature of her Element, Understanding (each other) and the fact that Star Swirl never understood how the Elements worked and this point in Twilights Transformation to an Alicorn, were her Cutymark came down with SIX small Stars around her own one, this brings a complete new Picture to all this.
Also: As far as I understood it, Starswirl studied the Elements but they not worked for him, behold there Secrets to them self.
Maybe he tried to force the Element of understanding to give him insight to this, and damaged or destroyed it in this Process.
Also it is possible, that this "Fragments" are under the Roots of the Tree of Harmony, because only this magical Tree seemed to understand what happened and how it could help the Ponys in the Future. (With the keystone)
The fact that Twilight had another Star as her Cutymark brought her down to earth again, and that she later had only her normal Cutiemark with the five stars around her own, could be an animation error, OR it could be that the missing Element is still somewhere in Equestria, and needed to be found again... or that Sunset will bring it one day with her back to Equestria, and it will unite itself with it's missing Counterparts, to form even a stronger bond with the others and Twilights Cutiemark will change its appearence, and bring in the missing star.
I mean, they worked together once, against the Sirense in the battle of the Bands, and Sunsets Magic was the Keystone for the totaly overpowered Rainbow Alicorn Magic.
What is if in Future there will be a Danger, that only the combined Power of ALL Elements together can fix?
But on the other hand... what can this Danger be?
Tirek? I don't think so.
Cryslis? Na. ^^
King Sombra ? Maybe. He is sealed at the Moment, but at the End of the Episode he reapeared and was sealed again, a small part of his horn vanished after he was sealed. It could be that this small piece, could take over controll of a magical talented Pony, that breaks the Seal and frees him again.
The missing Element could be needed, to understand his real past and the combined Power to rescue his soul from the Darkness and transform him back to a normal Unicorn.
Question is, will the Community accept, that another Villian is rescued from his own dark being?
Or maybe there comes another dark being, more powerfull then even Discord... but then this looks more and more like Dragon Ball: Son Goku becomes stronger, he meets a strong oponent, becomes stronger again, then comes another more stronger character and so on and on and on...
At the end they are so powerfull, they can take out a Planet with a Energyball... Is the Universe even ready for such "Godlike" Powerfull beings?
Really, I hope MLP will never reach this problem.
Hope this makes any sense, because english isn't my first language.
P.s.: Twilight don't really understand Friendship. She trys, but if it comes to friendship Stuff outside of her own little Circle of Friends, she mostly fails.
She may be the Princess of Friendship, but she have much much more to learn. ;-)
They can put him in an episode! Just a little homework; slamdunk
Are we forgetting that Sunburst can't cast most of the magic he knows about?
Not only is Starswirl really an older Sunburst, but Starlight Glimmer is Clover the Clever [and maybe Mistmane later on], but they are also both the parents of Sunset Shimmer
What if after he went missing, Star Swirl the Bearded became corrupted by some unknown force and is currently plotting Equestria's downfall, sending other villains after the Mane 6 and their allies as distractions while he finds the materials he needs for complete and total annihilation?
as far as starlight's spell I thought of it more like flashpoint from DC Comics were the new reality take time to cement so twilight went back to the future before it cemented.
Some joke referencing Bioshock. ;D
I might find it cannon.
The plot thickens.
In a way I could kinda see it: Starswirl's cutie mark is never shown; even when out of his cloak it is hidden by his tail or by shadow. Unfortunately I fear there's no way Sunburst is Starswirl ... possibly somepony who idolizes him and wants to be like him. In the official comics Starswirl has the same hooves/legs such as Big Mac and Shining Armor (Their hoof is separated from their coat). Some males do have similar legs/hooves as the females (all meshed and one color). His time travels do occasionally alter his age and thus changing his pupils ... possibly explaining the color change (though most likely it's just different artists. They explained Luna's hair change as the moon spirits blessing her with the ability to enter dreams after fighting off Nightmare Rarity, as well as Luna regressing in age, mentally, after 1000 years being imprisoned and "tortured" by the Nightmare Force (Miasma?) That would explain why she looks now and when she was banished at the time). Personally, I always figured Starswirl and Celestia had a falling out ... with Celestia angry at Starswirl for knowing Luna would become possessed and not attempting to stop her. Granted, she wouldn't have the Mane 6 but it still pained her. Plus, in the books it revealed that it took him and 10 other unicorns to raise and lower the sun and moon before they eventually lost all their magic and had to rely on Celestia and Luna for that magic ... plus having their magical abilities returned to them by those sisters. It is possible he disappeared and is still alive: Radiant Hope was kept alive for 1000 years without aging by living in the Umbrum world as she was being brainwashed into committing treason. Chrysalis and the changelings seem to both live off love and can change their bodies to adapt to a degree (It's still not clear as to why they couldn't heal their holes and wings as it is revealed that Celestia did once enter into a state of "Daybreaker" and nearly killed the Changelings, only to regret what she did and instead imprison them in a volcano. They were so damaged that future offspring were born with holes and rips). I'm getting off topic hear ... Your idea is interesting and I could be wrong. Personally I think this is all just a matter of all the MLP mediums not checking with each other (such as Flurry Heart being the 1st natural born Allicorn in Equestria when She and Luna were born Allicorns prior to the founding of Equestria) Still, it's fun to wonder. XD
Gummy is star swirl the bearded.
@ 8:30 "he can't cast spells " maybe he was human he has a beard humans grow beards ponys really don't not like humans do anyways and humans cant cast majicks maybe a human not nessacerly from earth went to equus and some how go tuned into a pony i don't know maybe im stupid
My thoughts are simple compared to others. It's possible that Starswirl the Bearded is indeed alive still living in another area outside of Equestria like the up coming movie will show. If he's still alive then why not have a child of his own only for reasons of keeping a low key Starswirl doesn't want any pony, even his own son, to know. He may be out there learning more ways writing magic and his son could very well be following in that as well but not really knowing it. Sunburst could have been informed by his mother that his father was a "important wizard" maybe even "powerful wizard" so that's what got him into studying magic to begin with.
I honestly thought Twilight was the great granddaughter of StarSwirl.
But that's just me.
anime lover 17 and celestia's
Heth Rham
Why Celestia?
Starswirl practically raised Celestia and Luna... If they mated then that would be kinda weird to explain...
anime lover 17 I ment granddaughter of starswirl and tia
It's very unlikely that Celestia or Starswirl had any children...
Assuming Sunburst is Starswirl himself, what if he never went back in time to become Starswirl? Would that reality just cease to be, or would it create a parallel universe in which Starswirl never existed? Or would someone else take the place of Starswirl, and be a completely different pony? It's like, if Kyle Reese from _The Terminator_ never went back in time to save Sarah Connor, and become John's father.
I know one of the show's main themes are finding one's destiny, and special talents, but I think the concept of "choice" still applies.
Ryan Hartwell VINYL AND NEON BABY TWILIGHT SKY IS MISSING! WILL THEY EVER FIND HIM AGAIN
The biggest problem with this is that it relies on the books and comics, which are both noncanon.
hmm.. tis is an interesting theory indeed
I always thought maybe Sunburst and Starswirl the bearded might be related since they have somethings in common
So, here's a question, what would Fry from Futurama going back in time and becoming his own grandfather fall under?
Hm. Tough call. Love that episode, though, so might as well try to logic it out.
I would guess it's either a causal loop or the self-consistency principle at work. In the event it's a causal loop, the guy Fry thought was his grandpa was never his grandpa to begin with, it was always Fry, and he's the one that caused his dad's and his own birth (which caused him to later go back in time, which causes his birth, etc.).
On the other hand, it might just be the self-consistency principle, in which case the guy Fry thought was his grandpa WAS his grandpa in the timeline Fry came from, but in order for Fry to still exist after he killed him, he had to still pass down Fry family DNA---ergo, he becomes his own grandpa.
Here's an interesting take on it all:
Celestia and Luna are Alicorns and no one knows where they came from or how they got there. Flurry Heart is the first (and only, in our knowledge) natural born Alicorn. We also know that she is immensely powerful if her magic isn't restrained.
What if Sunburst and Flurry Heart were taken back in time when the former was getting older, and the latter was a young mare?
What if Flurry turned out to be the mother of Celestia and Luna, and they were being raised when the windigos attacked Equestria?
I mean, it could happen...
DRWolf001 its like if you change the past you change the future and if you change the future you also change the past. the effect ripple outwards, up and down the timeline. the chroll will be in past or in the future
I think it's more likly that Sunburst is the modern day equvilent of Starswirl. But then lets take this theory from the video a bit futher. Supose an older Sunburst recieves the time Spell with all the extra magic that the spell takes from the Map. That could unlock his magical potential to rival that of Starlight or Twilight. In the process the also gets supercharged sending him back in time a thouand years or so, Realising where he is and quickly learning why he's there, he takes up the mantle with all his knowledge. As for him disapearing, maybe that is the end of his supercharged spell returning him to the present equestria?
Another Speculation is that Sunburst may be a decendant of Starswirl which explains their looks and the spell Starlight used simply goes back in time for the origional Starswirl to learn?
IDW's claims that LoE ties into Season 7 almost seems to imply Sunburst and the books from Starswirl's private collection he has been reading are connected in some way, as in the ancient past or something...
I really like this theory. I also can imagine that Flurry (considering how powerful she is already) could send him back in time by accident, likely by having something like a massive tantrum :/ she's still a baby after all.
SomehowCreative BOOOOOOOO OHOO UMMMM? SWETIE BELLE DON'T DO MAGIC BECAUSE YOUR NOT READY SHOUTS RARITY! BUT SHE FOCUSED AND TWILIGHT SKY WAS SENT BACK IN TIME! WHOOPS SWEETIE BELLE! SHE YELLS

or maybe Sunburst is a spell to bring back starswirl the bearded
Dr. Wolf , i have a quite interesting thought to share with you , as i was thinking about your videos of "memories of the equestrian wolf" something appeared in my mind . What would you do , if your old Master would show up again , trying to claim you back as his assitant? would you go? would you stay? what could happen in that exact moment? could be a quite interesting story , dont you think?
Quite interesting, yes :)
DRWolf001 i really would like to watch such a story , maybe giving the fanbase more background about you own wolf-oc or even better , a deeper insight in his adventures back at that time when he travelled with his old master, as if a timecapsule got opened at this moment ^^
one more idea. the present pony Ville is the past. all the events hear about takes place in the future
Could Starswirl be the Polaris opposite of "Rick Sanchez " from Rick & Morty? Both have: time travels, Dimension travels, addiction to their own beverages ( Alcohol & Caffeine), music battles, have apprentices, and Non-human & Non-pony friendships! What more details to find on Starswirl?
And Glimmer become Clover the clever because she dont want lose him again
I didn't and I should have, and now I feel ashamed for speaking about that...please forgive me.
I have to disagree with rule 3. Because I think any kind of change can make a big impact
If I had rules for time travel it would be the following:
1: have a reason. Obviously you can't just time travel for nothing. But keep in mind the possibilities of what could happen good and bad. (Example: every time you time travel you invite the chance of death or worse) That's why you shouldn't time travel unless you have a very good reason.
2: the past supports the future. You have to treat time like a tower the past is on the bottom. If the past is gone so is the rest of the tower because you can't remove anything without taking everything out.
3: change one thing you Change everything. Are future is based on past events that already happens if one thing gets removed the future will dramatically change.
hmmm... interesting theory. If it's true, maybe Starswirl (who is Sunburst) , wouldn't be keen on friendship since he was taken away from all his friends and family and sent to a time when he could never see them again. And he emotionally locks himself away so he can't suffer that pain of loosing someone again.
except this theory hits a hicup for rule 3, in order for the butterfly effect to work at all the time orphen effect must also be present which negates the need for rule 2 to be obeyed, the time orphen effect [not its actual name but its the one i use] states that when you go back in time and change something, unless it trigers the self fulfilling prophecy effect then you then become a temporal orphen, that is to say you stand apart from time think about it...twilight had to recast the time travel spell each time she returned to the past, the map remained cause the tree of harmony, another magical item of unfathomable power, knew the timeline had been fucked with and it needed to restore harmony, and was beconing twilight to keep trying till she did just that but anyway in the worlds she went to, she didnt exist...think about it, if all the other main six had met on the feild of battle in the sombra universe then surely twilight should have met them too, and yet that worlds twilight just...wasnt there...because of the time orphen paradox the change in history 'deleted' twilight from the timeline, starlight too, neither of them ever existed in those universes so you see they 'could' have just left things as they were and nothing would have prevented it but well you saw the world and how it turned out.
if this was 'not' the case twilight and starlight would have imdiatly ceased to exist in the past the second starlight changed history and trigered the grandfather paradox, the bad side of it the one where you crate an infinite loop at a single spacetime point that creates a temporal black hole that destroys everything in creation
This was one great theory! That'd be too good if that was true!
First Comment!

Do I have to make a Joke?
Okay, i'll try...
umm...
I'm jokeless today.
Joey Openshaw I'm guessing that's the joke
+Bigdogfinest
I think he's being serious.
you shall never know.... BWAHAHAHAHAHWAHAHAHA!!!!
It's an intriguing theory. I kind of thought that Starlight might be a descendant of Starswirl. If both are true, that would be...... Interesting, to say the least.
what if the time travel spell went to starlight in the time before she found the village that she took over? since she doesn't know the use of the spell and the existence of twilight's map table, she just keep it until the time comes ???
Does anyone think it may be a possibility that Starswirl the Bearded may appear in a main role in the MLP movie coming out in October?
There is one question that may have an answer anyway. If Sunburst goes back in time and he can't cast that spell, who did and do we know anyone that's powerful enough to do it do?the answer is yes. here is a list of characters that could do it from the most unlikely to duh. Princess Twilight. it would be against her character to do so because she knows how terrifying it is. Candace is low because of Sunburst title of the Crystaler. and that puts Shining Armor in the same spot. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna could do it. they have knowledge of stuff. of course Princess Celestia is higher than Princess Luna because Princess Celestia has hinted at the possibility she know upcoming events and it fits with the rules too. because somepony met a friend of Princess twilight and find out she had ascended from a unicorn not too long after nightmare moon returned and the book somepony had to write it. Celestia is a troll but if she knew Luna was going to be corrupted by the darkness she would fight it to the very end. Woah! Princess Celestia may be one of the highest possibilities after all. Trixie could be the one because her magic might be more powerful than shown. she teleport a crystal table on her first try. and that table should have wore her out with the magic she was shown with before. Starlight Glimmer could be the one. When she uses powerful magic when not thinking it 90% backfires. If timetravel to the past is possible could their be a spell to see a possible future and what would happen if it backfired? it could trap a pony in the past. You don't have to understand anything to be a hero. Sunburst would push Starlight out of the way too. and of course we can't forget the god of chaos Discord.
As cool as this would be it sadly doesn't really fit together, It's still Possible, just it would be kinda confusing and some eventful things would have to happen first. At the moment it seems that Starswirl and Sunburst are two different people. And with it being likely that starswirl witnessed Discord (Discord attacked before Tirek), I doubt he's him either.
I've been doing my best to put together mlp lore as of late, and right now i'm reading through the journal of the two sisters to come up with a final conclusion on the time before equestria, but it will be all speculation and possibilities until more info comes from the show and comics.
I really don't want Sunburst to become Starswirl.
Meh, I just think it'll turn out that Sunburst is just a descendant of Starswirl the bearded.... That would be the simplest answer... And it would also play a part of why Sunburst feels so inadequate as a unicorn.... with him not be able to do most spells, there's no chance of him living up to Starswirl's legacy....
No1ofgreatimportance BOOOOOOOO VINYL AND NEON LOST THEIR SON TWILIGHT SKY? OH HOW CAN THEY FIND HIM AGAIN
Yo Doc. I'm kind of late to the party man sorry, lol. I believe that your theory may be correct in a partial sense. I know the comics aren't essentially cannon but I know the journal of the 2 sisters is. What we know is that he and four other unicorns were responsible for raising the moon and the sun. My theory is that sunburst is one of many different ponies that will go by the name Star swirl. The reasoning behind these multiple apperances from the original grey wizard may be perhapse they are from different timelines and universes.
DRWolf011, if Starswirl had difficulty understanding "friendship", how was he able to help Scorpan make friends with the other ponies and animals so that he would eventually help bring Tirek to justice? Also, if Starswirl made over 200+ spells, that would mean he was experienced enough to test each of them in some way during the creation process to ensure that the spells (or parts of the spells) would work as expected. If so, that would mean the unfinished spell found on the last page of his journal (the one Twilight "fixed") was also tested by Starswirl as some point even though he was unable to complete it. Is it possible that testing the unfinished spell is what caused Starswirl's disappearance from Equestrian History? Food for thought.
It actually wasn't that Starswirl didn't understand friendship at all just that "he didn't understand friendship like [Twilight]." So, he had SOME understanding of its importance, but apparently not as much as Twi, according to Celestia in Magical Mystery Cure.
He could be a descendent of Starswirl.
Matthew Hilliker BOOOOO!
I honestly like the theory of Star Swirl became Discord ,but all I know is from the show so there might be some comic or book that totally destroys this idea
Igna M. Gavier really?...
cool then I'm sticking to that Idea:)
thanks for the info
I would like to see Starswirl in the carton to, if William Shatner is going to voice him. Let's hope season seven can pull this off.

David Dyster BOOOOO! TWILIGHT SKY VINYL AND NEON'S BABY IS MISSING!
I'm writing this comment now; will watch the video later:
I personally think StarSwirl is the offspring of Sunburst and Starlight that fell into a time portal right after he was born. He ended up in the distant past, where he was raised by another group of ponies. While I don't think he would look anything like his parents, he would inherent his father's goatee that would grow into a fine beard, and he would inherit his mother's powerful Unicorn Magic.
I'm a little busy to watch the video now, but I'd be pleasantly surprised if Dr. Wolf came to the same conclusions.
What id the MLP writers introduce Starswirl the Bearded in the later section of season 7, or in season 8 somewhere???? Or if possible, maybe in season 9( when they get the A-Okay for season 9)?
Isn't sunburst weak with magic, whereas starswirl is incredibly powerful?
If he went back in time, Would that have made him an orphan that then got adopted? If so, why do his adopted parents have such a similar color scheme to him?
