I feel virtually all the features you mentioned minus shutter angle are done better on the Sony FX6. Better lowlight, better autofocus (notably), the ND is electronic so it automatically shifts from dark to light environments perfectly smoothly, it's got full XLR inputp, more video friendly ergonomics, better high speed modes (it can do 240fps 2k with full sensor readout rather than 180fps on super 16 crop mode like the C70), and with bp-u60 & u90 batteries you get WAY longer run times without having to rig it out with v-mount alternatives. Plus an image that is distinctly less noisy in less than ideal lighting conditions. The Sony color science has caught up & quite frankly I kinda prefer s-cinetone now ocer Canon color, although that's all just preference. The two points that is holdiing me back with this camera is the autofocus and the lens mount. Yeah but isn’t the r3 more geared towards photos? Also, 5 months later have canon come out with me video centric lenses? I’m deciding between c70 and fx3
The C70 looks impressive as hell. I've been primarily a stills guy for most of my career but transitioning to more video. I 'm currently running an R5 and C100 MkII. The new job I'm at has a hodge-podge of Canon, Sony, Lumix and a BlackMagic 4k so I'm looking to simplify the gear closet, especially with regard to multi-camera shoots. Trying to match 3 different kinds of files isn't fun! I've been a little disappointed in the R5's tendency to overheat fairly quickly (though I wonder if that's partially a result of writing to the CFAST card) so I tend to stick to stills with that. I'm curious about some of your rigs for the C70 - are you typically working solo?
ive been wanting to get into photography for awhile now and am really thinking about finally getting a good camera, and i was looking at getting the canon r10. is this a good choice?
I would love to be able to add this to my collection one day…I just got the R5 for my birthday yesterday, and as a videographer/content creator and photographer, I know it is what’s best for me right now, and I have truly been loving it! That being said…. after watching this video, I know what I’m saving up for next!
So what’s the benefit of having RF lenses can you get a speed booster that’s compatible with the RF lenses… it seems as though the C 70 is only for people with older Ef lenses… i’m confused lol
Sawyer, do you think I should upgrade from my Canon M6 Mark I😅 to the C70, because I have the chance to film for The Real Life Guys (they have 1,41 Million subscribers) I already sold the GH5 that I had.
Would definitely be an incredibly powerful upgrade. However there are (in my opinion way more aspects to take into consideration - like what lenses do you want to use or have available, what support gear, and what weight are you willing to carry). Ps. Fellow German here. Happy shooting with the real life guys.
@@ChrisSpieglThere is M6 Mark I footage that I shot in their newest video, but it doesn’t match very well with their A7S III footage. For the documentary they use a FX6. I don’t like the FX6 because of the color science, the fact that you have to use the top handle to use the XLRs and I generally prefer the form factor of the C70. Also you have a point with the lenses. I wouldn’t want to adapt EF glass to it. But then I would have to wait for the APS-C RF lenses to come out. Because using full frame RF glass on the C70 seems like a waste to me. Regarding support gear, I would use a stabilised lens for handheld scenarios and when I want to go prime I’d use a glidecam, gimbal or tripod (Maybe I could get away with a prime lens when shooting slow-mo) Regarding weight I think I’d rather have a slightly heavier all-in-one-package than the uncomfortably to hold rig that I used for the community raft video. Yes, for sure I am so grateful for having had the chance to work with the Real Life Guys team and I am exited to work with them on the next video 🙌🏻 Feel free to join us @the next community event :)) Regards from south of Darmstadt, where are you from?
@@sawyerhartman The 2620g body-lens-combo you use, does it also give you stable footage when filming handheld? Even with the 28-70mm f2 not being a stabilised lens.
@@creativecomputers6060 that’s an incredible description. But since APS-C RF lenses are not likely to show up in the next few weeks. 😅 Are you mainly looking to create your own production/documentary or combine with footage they shoot themselves? If it’s the second, I’d go with the camera brand they already use and not try to mix and match. Especially since the RF lineup is currently not complete enough (also meaning the not existence of a full frame cinema camera - unless you’d like to invest into the C70 and EF glass - but you said you don’t want that). ☺️ If you’d like to talk more you can connect with me on my discord server (links are on my channel). I'm shooting mostly corporate video with my Canon C100 Mark II, but getting more push to shoot 4k. In your opinion, would this camera beat what I have and are the file size huge making storage and editing difficult? Also, you mentioned that at first you didn't like the camera and now you do. Was it just putting the camera on a tripod or a gimble that made the difference. Thanks and I loved you video.
Excellent vidéo, je suis totalement d'Accords avec toi, j'en n ai acheté une et c'est totalement vrai au début elle semble pas évidente et quand tu commence à shooter avec c'est le bonheur !!! wow !!!
The more video I do, I seem to be wanting a more capable video camera. Upgrading my game from the Canon 6Dm2 to the R5 was huge, the video is amazing, but I still do way more photos. But after doing live streams with the R5 during covid shutdowns, I find myself wanting a much more capable video camera, but don't want to drop $10k on a Canon Cinema camera. This parks me right at the level where the C70 is striking my interest. Sadly, after looking into a new lens for the R5, I just don't have it in my budget for $8k in camera and accessories (like a more capable gimbal, cage, memory cards, ...).
Ok I need your true opinion I am coming into some money soon I wanna know should I get the C70 or the R5C I wanna do More short films and documentary work I hear that the C70 auto focus sucks
Thanks for the review. What about frame rates? Can it shoot 120 at 4k? I do a lot of wildlife shooting so this is important for me. The specs are a little confusing online.
YES but NO. It does it in “slow and fast” mode which means it records and automatically interprets it into 24 fps. So it’s not like the Sony where you can record 120 fps and play it back normally until you want to slow it down. It records everything “in slow motion.” It’s not like recording 4k @ 60 fps where u can just slow down 50% (in a 30 fps timeline) at certain points but the rest plays in 30 fps.
i've shot photo and video on canon in the past and really didn't think the results were great. Currently on a bmpcc6k and Fuji XT4 for photo, but really interested in this camera for the positives you pointed out. However, I'm seeing some serious turquoise fringing on your footage (check the beach scenes, the edge of the palm tree trunks 2:34, 3:20, 4:26) and it has me worried about Canon. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!
What SD Cards are you using? I have Pro Grade Digital V90 but I'm getting Buffer Overflow when shooting S&F 120/23.976fps in xf-avc, MP4 works fine. What codec do you use?
NO EVF -NO OPTIONAL EVF - c'mon Canon - I do a lot shooting outside and it's invaluable. Plus the hinge on the display is weak. Sorry to be negative on such a great camera, but what was Canon thinking? I'm disappointed with the lack of shutter speed control too.
The C70 looks great! I've had the C100 Mark II for a while now which is an amazing camera and looking to upgrade or at least update my gear, however I'm struggling to find a camera that has all I'm looking for. I don't understand why this camera for example doesn't have a VF? I usually shoot outdoor in very bright conditions and I find impossible to film without a vf, It's one of the things I love about the C100 which also has internal ND filters. Another thing is internal IS, at least I believe it doesn't have any? If you look at most competitors they now all have some sort of IS, why isn't Canon adding this feature for a small format cinema camera? I get that it's always been impossible to find the camera that has it all but at least these 2 features should be, in my opinion, in any video/film camera within this type of range, like FX3 or C70 etc. Thoughts?
So, I have an R5 & R6, I'm now shooting more & more video.. but still shooting photos often enough to want a bad ass photo centered camera like the R5.. and even the R6 for my lower light stuff. Therefore, I'm not talking about trading either in or selling. I am however finding myself now getting corporate gigs, interview jobs and more video wedding gigs. First: some of my clients are requesting a 3 camera set up. I could buy another R6.. but I'm not.. My R6 can't handle doing long shoots of 4K without me buying an atomos ninja v. I could buy a XA 55 and get by probably. Either way, I need a dedicated video camera and would prefer something that has lots of features that a camcorder might have but also give me the ability to use RF & adapted EF glass plus the ability to take cinema glass. So.. I think the C70 is something I am going to budget for.
Great video man, the image quality (in your video at least) speaks for itself. I'm an old photographer, having very little video experience, wishing to get into videography more seriously (travelling, documentaries and occasional wedding/reporting kind of things). So i'm contemplating all my options at the moment with a 10k budget give or take. I love the Sony system and form factor, but if i'm honest Canon's colour science has always been more pleasant to my eye. This being said up to now, the recording time limit and over heating issues kept me away from even considering Canon. So in that respect this C-70 looks quite promising, 2 questions though if you care to answer; 1-) Would it be possible to use a regular Ronin gimbal with this camera ? (not thinking about using very long lenses on it of course). 2-) After watching Carlos Quintero's video minutes ago entitled Buyers remorses where he goes on about how bad (noisy and reduced dynamic range) the 4k 120fps is, related to the BGO sensor having to be turned off or something, i have doubts now, not that i plan to do a lot of 120fps shooting, 4k 60 would be enough for me 99% of the time i suppose, but it would still be nice to know in advance just how usable it is in real life applications. Curious to hear your thoughts on that and if this issue alone would be any kind of a deal breaker. At any rate thank's for sharing this video, was sure fun to watch.
hi, great view and advice and you have made up my mind to get the c70, so thank you. Have you got a link to the adaptor mount please as I can't seem to find ef-eos r 0.7 (as shown in your video) only the ef-eos r? thank you

I almost believe you, but i would love to see an A and B of both cameras side by side. B/c I am sure if you slap on a Nisi filter you would get the r5 to bloom and look softer. As for usage on TH-cam for content it is a total waste. Honestly, makes no difference. Like bringing a Red to film your kids birthday party at the beach-- a phone would do the job. Talk short film or docs.
So true, 4k is almost a waste on TH-cam. For me, the camera needs to be workable, the poor autofocus, no ev and multiplication factor for lenses is turning me away from this camera. I have invested in RF glass and there is not many options for this camera apart from the 16mm and 35mm, if you want to keep the camera small. The R3 is out, comparing this.

Yeah, i live on Australia, and this bothers me also. There is no histogram, to expose to so if you can't see the colour on the screen, you are stuffed. Also reviewing clips will be hard. I get this camera gets great footage, but have reservations moving to this camera for my use case.

@@ryansulak I was deciding between the C70 and FX3 but I think I’m gonna go with the R3 and C70 or R3 and R5C.
This follow focus you have, how are you controlling it? what brand is it?
The C70 looks impressive as hell. I've been primarily a stills guy for most of my career but transitioning to more video. I
'm currently running an R5 and C100 MkII.
Love my C70! The image is gorgeous. Files easy to handle, and with the adapter you get a full frame field of view.
So what’s the benefit of having RF lenses can you get a speed booster that’s compatible with the RF lenses… it seems as though the C 70 is only for people with older Ef lenses… i’m confused lol
Great video i love it
Men , thanks for the review, I use fx3 and a7siii but still Loki Lin for a portable cine camera, and definitly c70 is the one.
Honestly it will matter a lot on lens you get to! I use the 28-70 for almost everything and its incredible with the c70!
Regarding support gear, I would use a stabilised lens for handheld scenarios and when I want to go prime I’d use a glidecam, gimbal or tripod (Maybe I could get away with a prime lens when shooting slow-mo)
Regarding weight I think I’d rather have a slightly heavier all-in-one-package than the uncomfortably to hold rig that I used for the community raft video.
Yes, for sure I am so grateful for having had the chance to work with the Real Life Guys team and I am exited to work with them on the next video 🙌🏻
Feel free to join us @the next community event :))
Regards from south of Darmstadt, where are you from?
@@sawyerhartman The 2620g body-lens-combo you use, does it also give you stable footage when filming handheld? Even with the 28-70mm f2 not being a stabilised lens.
@@creativecomputers6060 that’s an incredible description. But since APS-C RF lenses are not likely to show up in the next few weeks. 😅
Are you mainly looking to create your own production/documentary or combine with footage they shoot themselves? If it’s the second, I’d go with the camera brand they already use and not try to mix and match. Especially since the RF lineup is currently not complete enough (also meaning the not existence of a full frame cinema camera - unless you’d like to invest into the C70 and EF glass - but you said you don’t want that). ☺️

Yo! Could I ask what Focus motor that is you are using? How are you pulling with it? is that a wheel on the backside?
Hello what is the cine lens you have on the C70 for this vidéo thank you
Ok I need your true opinion I am coming into some money soon I wanna know should I get the C70 or the R5C I wanna do More short films and documentary work I hear that the C70 auto focus sucks
The Canon website Shop doesn't even carry the C70. So where do you get it?
Yo Sawyer is this still your go to cinema camera??
Does the C200 have a better AF than the C70? Thanks!
@@karimsaleh7034 thank you so much for responding, that is super helpful!
i've shot photo and video on canon in the past and really didn't think the results were great.
Thoughts?
Yesss!! Happy Sunday dude!
Hey Joli!!! Thanks for dropping by!! This camera is a beast!! I know youd love it!
@@sawyerhartman it’s such an awesome camera!
your videos are so awesome i think that you need to upload more frequently
So there is nothing negative about this camera to say?
Autofocus may be a hint? 🤔
No auto focus?
nope its as good as the 1dx mark ii which was my favorite ever!
@@sawyerhartman Also since the firmware update it has amazing face tracking AF..mine had awesome AF before the firmware
What luts were you using for the C70 shots?
If I had a model like that even my Canon XL2 would look cinematic
I was even thinking of my iPhone 4.
Do you thing c70 is a perfect match w the tilta float?
What's is the name of that wide lens you have.
hi, great view and advice and you have made up my mind to get the c70, so thank you. Have you got a link to the adaptor mount please as I can't seem to find ef-eos r 0.7 (as shown in your video) only the ef-eos r? thank you
why not the black magic
love the Canon repinggg
How does C70 compares to ZCAM E2 F6?
I already own this, but you sold me on It again🤣🤣
How is the auto focus with sigma lens?
I'm happy with my R6 new firmware added c log3. Also you can use canon ND adapter if you use EF glass
Have you ever missed a shot due to overheating?
@@creativecomputers6060 I don't shoot long videos mostly BTS. Camera getting worm but don't overheated on me yet.
@@TomasRamoska Great 😀 BTS of what if I may ask?
@@creativecomputers6060 Outdoor portraits. Basic stuff model in slow-motion posing no audio just music track. Easy to do looks effective. Nothing special.
You definitely want that camera free from Canon. 😁
The best look is contrasty, with flatter/smooth highlights
Rolling or global shutter?
What follow focus system is that he is using ?
Which lenses do you use with it?
oh my god i love your videos what an iq....i am on r5....i think the only thing r5 has now it 8k 12 bit raw for the colour .....but i think your right c70 is the only camera 99% need
does C70 has DCI raw output to external recorder? decent connector for external battery?
They are updating the camera to shoot raw internally in March 😃
Hey Sawyer, what lenses are you using. Looks like cinema lenses to my untrained eyes. 😅 Thanks for such a great video. I think you’ve sold me on the C70.
Oh snap - I just heard you say “Canon Cinema Primes” in the video! OK, cool. 🤣🤣 Thanks again! ✊🏾
Glad to hear you found "the one" 😁
The built in NDs are IT FOR ME!
Can you share what the rail mount is?
“It’s absolutely disgusting” 😂😂
Looks great. I wonder though if there are no limitations shooting outdoor in bright ligth without a viewfinder. AF in certain situations can be quite tricky. - But yes, some C 70 users I know confirm, this is a great camera.
Yeah, i live on Australia, and this bothers me also.
There is no histogram, to expose to so if you can't see the colour on the screen, you are stuffed.
Also reviewing clips will be hard.
I get this camera gets great footage, but have reservations moving to this camera for my use case.
What’s up Sawyer man how are you? I’m currently shooting on the Sony a6400 and a6600.My B cameras are the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the GoPro Hero 7 Black
what lens on that a6400????
@@sawyerhartmanI currently use the 18-135mm f3.5 on both my a6400 and 6600. Useful on the c70.
How is the autofocus when underexposed or in low light?
On my C70 camera it is not that good. But I dont use auto focus in low light anyway..
Not good, people say it is not even as good as the EOS R. I have this camera, and if i am dropping this sort of cash i want better autofocus.
@@waynosfotos Remember there is no autofocus anyway on quality cinema lenses. Just saying :-) I will choose Dynamic range over autofocus any time. (Image quality is key)
@@OppositeDreams i am comparing it to the new R3, and it is better in almost ever way. I get it is a hybrid. But i am a one man show and the features are better for less money (if you include the booster)
I get the Dynamic range is good, but the R3 has unlimited raw I have watch almost every review on the C70. It just doesn't cut it for the money.

FX3 blows it outta water. No nd filter but meh I shutter up and can barely notice the difference. Sure shutter angle you can do but in slow motion there’s little to no difference shooting wide open at 1.8
But the price for amateur videographer and filmmaker is too much (meaning you get money from other job).
You need an external audio recorder for. Wav
