    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much!! So those numbers are the size of the wire... so 19x25 is short for 0.019x0.025 inches.. so the wire is .019inches tall and 0.025 inches wide =]

    Hi Greg, Is there a difference between wire-brands i.e. I have Damon Clear 2 braces (upper arch) and as I am the only one who has this brand, my dentist uses his own (white coated) wires. Which I do not know the brandname of. Somehow I feel more comphortable if the wires are from the same brand as my brackets. But am open to learn from others to obtain a wider perspective on this. I hope you find the time to share your knowledge on this subject. If it doesn’t matter, what do you advise: invest in Damon wires in a later stadium (phase 2 perhaps)? Square and/or rectangular wires (they can only be bought in a package of ten)?
    And ofcourse thank you on explaining braces and wires! Orthodontists explaining braces are so rare!

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can definitely do a video explaining different arm forms. The brands do have to be the same & actually they usually are not. We select wires that are best fit for you!

    Awesome video Dr. Greg. Most awaited video for me. You are very good at making detailed as well as short videos at the same time and we viewers find your conent very cool. How do you describe the size of archwire? In addition to the shape memory, the Ni-Ti wires also have one more characteristic, activation by our body heat, correct me if I'm wrong. But I am dying to know how the hell the SS wires work? I am desperate to know that and as you said, you will have it covered in your next video, which I am looking forward to. Super excited to see what's going to be next on your list always. Warm wishes to your channel. Loads of love from India!

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im so glad that you enjoyed the video!! Although NiTi is somewhat heat activated, I will be doing a video on super elastic NiTi that is heat activated soon =] The way we describe the size of a rectangular wire is by inches (height by width) so for instance a 16x22 NiTi is 0.016 inches by 0.022 inches. Hope that makes sense

  • @queen-ki9wj
    @queen-ki9wj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video series Doctor! My questions are I’ve had braces for the past 2 and a half years and admittedly I didn’t take care of them as much as I should’ve. Now I’m a lot more focused on brushing after every time I eat, flossing everyday, etc. Will these changes help me to reverse any staining or damage I may have caused over time? I think I have at least 6 more months before they come off. Also, my lower gums are very swollen and it’s hard to brush below the brackets. If my teeth have white spots after the braces come off, is there anything I can do to correct this? Thank you!

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These are all very difficult questions to answer online because it is case - dependent. I would ask both your orthodontist as well as your general dentist these questions and see if they can give you a more personalized answer after looking at your teeth

    Hello again! Here's a question for a future video; 'Craze lines' - Why? How? I noticed fine lines down the center of my teeth today and freaked out! Is this treatable or is it necessary?? I had to Google what it may mean and came across 'craze lines' - Keep up the great videos Dr!

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually a great topic that isn't talked about a lot! Its not treatable but just monitor it and you should be ok! Its just caused by little cracks that occur inside of your tooth! & Thank you so much for the kind words =] I really appreciate it!

    When you get powerchains, do you get the rectangular wires or does it vary?

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You generally get power chains on rectangular wires but it really depends. Usually power chains are used on stainless steel wires too, not too often on light NiTi

  • @kierasvidz5018
    @kierasvidz5018 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why have I had the same wire for 9 months at the beginning of treatment

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some wires (BioForce, and other wires like that) are used for a very long time and they express their force slowly over a really long period of time and are actually a rectangular wire! Maybe you have something like that!

    My dentist didn't change my wire since the very beginning and it's over a year now -_- The wire is round & thin, is that okay?? I had my adjustment earlier but she just changed the rubber 😑 and it didn't hurt (i mean it must hurt right? So that you'll know that your teeth is moving/adjusting) I'm so tired of my deep underbite lol

    • @DrGregAsatrian

  • @sadiyahalam178

    I have a question..My dentist put some sort of different wire on my braces and I think I heard him talking about nickel titanium, but my question is that, apparently my wire will get deactivated if I eat anything cold. So say if I do eat cold stuff with my wire and it keeps getting deactivated, but then I have something hot to activate it again, will it get activated, or it will stay deactivated for a certain amount of time? If say I have deactivated my wire a bit too much, will my wire eventually stop working and become deactivated until my dentist changes the wire, or it will reactivate after I have something hot? I just want to know that if my wire got deactivated multiple times, will it eventually stop working and never reactivate even if I consume hot liquids and stuff? I hope I find a reply, thank you so much! :D

  • @sabrinak167
    @sabrinak167 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    My Orthodontist gave me thicker wires Friday to help close up gaps and before putting them in, he put some bends in them where my gaps when I got my teeth extracted in March. Does that help close the gaps I have faster?

  • @jessiebierman6502
    @jessiebierman6502 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm having some of my brackets repositioned at my next appointment, that's an alternative to bending wires isn't it? My teeth were pretty wacky when I first started so I can imagine it was difficult to get the brackets in an ideal position to start with.

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man you're a pro now! You got it! In the beginning its nearly impossible to put them in the ideal position so once you get closer, like you said, we either repo or wire bend =]

    • @DrGregAsatrian

      Every orthodontist treats different so it is a bit tough to make a video saying what each doc does but generally when you get your braces, you get a NiTi wire and then for the first few visits, we increase the size of the wire!

    I have one of the ones that springs back and I have had my back archwires come out 3 times in 2 months. It hasn't even been a week since I got my left side fixed now the right. When I use tweezers it seems impossible. Can I just play it off to my orthodontist as it just happened when I get to my appointment? it's in 3 weeks😬 I know you wouldn't recommend this but I want to do it if I can as it doesn't hurt at all. Would you be able to tell if it was out for that long?

    I got them on 2 months ago. Damon clear. I am amazed so far how they work, but I just couldn't understand how the wire knows where to "go" and where to pull the teeth towards.. it was not understandable to me, how the added wire straightens the teeth. Now I am clear. The wire straightens and pull the teeth. But if the wire isn't nickel-titanium, not memory shape? How does that one work?

I've now found your great explanation on wires - many thanks.

    If the initial arch wires are one size fits all, then why does it change to 28mm, 36mm, etc.? And how would you know which size a person needs?

    Actually I am working on a project of treating an specific kind of a crossbite (unilateral posterior). For this I am using shape memory alloy. I studied that it regains it's shape when heated, can you please explain what is the source of heating in mouth? and how much displacement of teeth can we expect (there must be some losses).

      Sometimes we make space before engaging a tooth that is a bit out of the way. I'm not sure if this is the case for you but it's my best guess from the sounds of it

    I'm beginning my 9th months with braces. My last visit the placed stainless steel wire on the bottom. My previous visit they placed the stainless steel wire on top. Does this mean I'm nearing the end of treatment??

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes we use stainless steel wires in the middle of treatment and then go back to NiTi for some more advanced reasons. I wouldnt use this as a marker of almost being done but I would ask your doc at your next visit if this is your last wire!

    Hi. I got my braces a few days ago. My orthodontist said that he doesn't need to see me every month or every other month but every THREE month! And he justifies that because he is using a wire that tends to go back to its shape with heat, in this case, the heat of my mouse and so he doesn't have to see me more often than every 3 month. Have you ever heard of this kind of wire? And what do you think of the frequency of my visits? (sorry for my bad english, I hope you will understand what I mean)
