DogefulSquisher those are deposits of calcium and it usually happens when your teeth are not being brushed throughly. This can happen with braces because it can be hard to get a thorough job. An orthodontist should be able to fix most of it if its cause by braces with a cleaning, but they don’t always go away entirely sometimes.
I am so done with braces, i’ve had them for a year now and i want them out! I was so happy thinking that i didn’t have to do anything anymore after i get them out. But noooo i need retainers for the rest of my life
I got my braces off a month ago ,and when I got my retainers I had to wear them 24/7 for a month then after a month only in the evening. It's not that bad because you do get used to it. I only wear them to bed now
For those looking into braces...get it in writing if the retainers you will need are cover under cost AND more specifically, if that means ANY initial retainer you may need, not just the standard retainer. I got it in writing that my retainer would be included, only to later be told only the clear ones were included and that I need the Hawley for settling my bite and a nightguard. They requested $400 additional for Hawley and $400 for night guard. :(
Same happened to me 🙄 buttshits hit me for an extra $380 after the clear ones weren't holding my teeth in place. Such a long story but I ended up going to another orthodontist after losing faith in them and I have zero regrets 🤷 and the new guy isn't charging me extra for things that constitute proper treatment!
@@dacutestdimples I wonder what percentage, of people, end up needing a new ortho provider to finish their treatment...for a multitude of reasons. I really wanted to finish my treatment where I started, regardless of the surprise extra retainer cost...especially since switching, I am learning, will cost WAY more than $400. But in my case, switching might mean I actually finish 😂 so...yeah. If trust is lost or progress is not being made or you move...whatever the reason(s). Sometimes a switch is the better choice.

I asked him how that was even possible and he doesn’t even know the answer, he said retainers weren’t a thing back then? Idk can I please get this answered?!?!? I’ve been trying to know forever
I am 43. I had braces when I was 12. I never wore my retainer and with 41 I decided to fix my teeth again since they shifted back. I have had my damon braces now for 23 month. I recommend to wear the retainer like the orthodontist recommended in case your teeth are not like your dads.
My dad never had a retainer but his braces he said were like a hawley retainer which I don’t know of that makes a difference but his are not perfectly straight but they are really not that bad and I never noticed until he showed me when I was asking him about braces
Anoronix when you get your braces off and don’t wear the retainer like you’re supposed to you will find the retainer will eventually not fit. Although it may look like the teeth haven’t moved, they would have slightly. I guess it also depends on the straightness of the teeth prior to braces as crooked teeth are going to want to go to their original positioning.

It was not even discussed, I did not know about the different kinds and I had the permanent one slapped in and I thought that was normal. But I am grateful though that it means I would never forget to put a retainer in or I won't lose/break one.

I had braces for 3 years into my 40's... when I got them off I got a fixed retainer on the bottom, ( which I clean with floss and a ultrasonic cleaner) and they gave me clear retainers also. My dog chewed up my top retainer and then I replaced it with the Hawley, which I prefer. I stopped wearing my lower unfixed retainer about 9 months ago. I do wear my top hawley retainers almost every night, but after having my braces off for 4 years I still feel like my teeth are loose and wiggly, so I wear the retainer.
Super helpful video. I’m currently wearing braces and I had Invisalign for 4 months, all of this due to a super crooked canine on my lower jaw. As soon as I get my braces off I’ll wear Invisalign again, I’m so looking forward to wearing retainers. I don’t know if my orthodontist will give me bite retainers, or wire retainers or “fixed” retainers behind my teeth. Once again, thank you so much for your explanations.
I just got mine yesterday. I had adult braces (I’m 22 and my parents couldn’t afford them as a kid). My retainers are the clear ones (top and bottom) plus I have top and bottom permanent retainers
I've always wondered this and would love an answer: I've heard that long-term braces wear (like 5 years) can lead to root resorption. I'm assuming that in the end stages of such a long wear time, there isn't so much force on the teeth like in the beginning. So what is the major difference between long term braces wear and life-long retainer wear that doesn't lead to root resorption over time?
With having braces on there is always minor forces that are constantly causing movements because even when you move 1 or 2 teeth, the rest of the teeth feel a force because they are used as an anchor for that movement! With retainers, we are not trying to "move" teeth but hold them. I hope that somewhat answered your question!
I’m getting my braces off at the end of this month. (End of a July/beginning of August) and I’m kinda nervous about retainers. 🙂But it’s been over 2 years and I’m glad to be getting them off. 😀
I watt he'd this even though there is still 13 months left with my braces. Very helpful! Can't wait to take it off, and will surely come back on this video once I took it off

I feel like even if it gets to a point I’ll only have to wear my retainers sparingly, I’ll probably still wear them all the time lol. I don’t want my teeth to move!
For permanent retainers that run along the tongue side I do suggest you guys use a water pik or water flosser. It gets the job done-they’re a little more expensive that your average thread. It works great for me.
I have lingual permanent retainers in my upper teeth, lower teeth and have upper and lower Hawley retainers. I don't floss since every time I do, there's a hole between my teeth, even sometimes brushing causes a small gap to appear in some areas. My ortho told me the Hawley will help bring my bite together but it's been nearly 3 months and nothing :( as always, thanks for the vid dr.greg :)
Jake Leach The difference is their appearance and their material. They do the same job, it’s just that metal are made of metal and they are more visible while clear (don’t know what they are made of) aren’t really visible. Don’t hate me if I’m wrong, that’s just what I learned from a lot of braces videos 😂
Jake Leach fat opinion: don’t get the porcelain brackets!! I’ve had braces for 6 years (get them off in 5 days🤪) and I’ve had the porcelain ones for roughly 3 years. They break super easily and make it harder to remove them. They do work just as well, but they aren’t honestly worth the couple extra bucks.
I have gone through so many retainers before discovering I grind my teeth apparently? I kept popping the wire. The one I have now has lasted me years....they added more plastic to the front. So far so good.
Dr Greg at my orthodontist they give us a free retainer so if I ask for a 2nd retainer just in case I loose my other one will I get my 2nd retainer free
I am pretty sure it depends where you live for example if you are getting braces somewhere in like america they would cost alot but in the UK braces are free so mabye that's why
If you're in the UK that's a no. Maybe it depends on your office but most orthos in the UK will give your first free but if you loose or break it you'll have to pay to get the 2nd
Ok here’s a question if we gotta wear a retainer to keep teeth used to they new placement why not keep the braces on for another year or so without adjustments instead of retainers🧐
Braces would still cause force on the teeth and may even move them too far past where they need to be, as well as weakening the teeth and making it harder to clean them for an extra year!
I’ve only had braces for 2 months and I was told that I would need braces for 12 months but because I’m in my growth spurt I’m getting them off after only 3 months of braces!!

Same here, I lost my clear retainers and just continued with life. My teeth shifted back and I'm now wearing braces again. As soon as I get them off, I will make sure to wear my retainers, lesson learnt.
Very interesting video, I have been wearing 6 months smile braces for about 5 months and think I will need to wear them longer because of the overcrowding of my lower teeth. I do wear my top hawley retainers almost every night, but after having my braces off for 4 years I still feel like my teeth are loose and wiggly, so I wear the retainer.
There’s 6 months left to take my braces off and I really needed this video. Thank you
You got them off yet
you're videos are always so informative! thank you for sharing all of your information
Thank you so much!! Looking forward to our next collab!
I've been following this channel since I got my braces put on and I got them off today! This feels surreal!
Thank you so much for watching !! Best of luck on your journey!
Best channel for braces
I should be getting my braces off in May or June so I’m watching this and I can’t wait to get them off
I just got mine yesterday. I had adult braces (I’m 22 and my parents couldn’t afford them as a kid). My retainers are the clear ones (top and bottom) plus I have top and bottom permanent retainers
I've always wondered this and would love an answer:
I've heard that long-term braces wear (like 5 years) can lead to root resorption.
Braces Explained dr Greg remember me also I just got the news I am getting 4 back teeth removed 😟😬😬
Braces are fraud, check out John Mews work on YT for the truth.
@@resulsanane4506 Pff-of course, mewing will _definitely_ fix overcrowding(!)
I get my braces off next appointment and I’m so freaking excited. I’m 15 and I got them when I was 11. I’m so ready. I’ve had them twice
How exciting! Congrats!
I am so excited to get my braces off!! I still have a while but I cannot wait!
Exciting!! Keep us posted!
I’m getting my braces off at the end of this month. (End of a July/beginning of August) and I’m kinda nervous about retainers. 🙂But it’s been over 2 years and I’m glad to be getting them off. 😀

i have a a couple months left of braces and i’m so excited ahhh i really wanted an acrylic retainer but my mother convinced me to get the clear ones which overall probably are better for my life
me too
I've had braces for 22 months, and I'm getting them off in a month which is about a month less than my estimated treatment time. I can't wait! I don't even remember what life without braces is like lol😂
Im getting mine off On June 4 and I’m so excited. 3 years is so lobg
So when you get perminent retainer on the bottom teeth you dont need to wear another clear retainer on top of it correct?
This question really depends on your orthodontists retainer protocol!
I have to wear both!
I got my clear retainer today!!! Thx for the help! :)
I just got my braces off this really helped thxxxx
Ah that's so great! I'm glad I was able to help you out with this =]
Watching since they’re taking mine off in a few days 😁(so excited)
How exciting! Congrats in advanced!
Great video, thank you! And that's some epic intro music, btw. ☺️
Haha thank you so much!

Braces Explained 😁💕
does your retainer work? has your teeth shifted
@@ariaissoswagalicious8243 I wear retainers every night, and my teeth have not changed ever since
@@sharifaadel3835 i just got braces today and my orthodontist put this white gel or whatever it’s called on my tooth so it prevents my brackets from hitting, but it’s so hard to eat with and i don’t know what to do
You are so right! My dad told me he didn’t wear his retainer and his bottom teeth are crooked but it isn’t that bad. But still wear your retainers
Yup!! Make sure you wear them!!
how long did it take for him to get messed up though decades?
Finally I removed my braces yesterday 😍 , tomorrow is retainer time
Idk why but I love watching you
I just got my braces off on Thursday, but have to wait for next Thursday for my retainers. Really hope my teeth don't shift after all the pain and effort! 😭 But I'm super excited tho, like if u r!! 😍💖
how it is going now? do your teeth shift? do you still use retainers?
I just got my X-ray for invisalighn and am getting them in January! I am very excited 😊
I feel like even if it gets to a point I’ll only have to wear my retainers sparingly, I’ll probably still wear them all the time lol. I don’t want my teeth to move!
Haha no harm in wearing them 24/7!
For permanent retainers that run along the tongue side I do suggest you guys use a water pik or water flosser. It gets the job done-they’re a little more expensive that your average thread. It works great for me.
Can u plz explain the drawbacks of permanent retainers? Do teeth move after them and hygiene routine? Dos and donts????
That is why I looked up this video and I did not get enough info...thinking permanent retainer it was suggested and I have a upper teeth gap.
I was wondering about that I am not a fan of the flossers so I do own a waterpik and I love it esp using rechargeable batteries.
I have lingual permanent retainers in my upper teeth, lower teeth and have upper and lower Hawley retainers. I don't floss since every time I do, there's a hole between my teeth, even sometimes brushing causes a small gap to appear in some areas. My ortho told me the Hawley will help bring my bite together but it's been nearly 3 months and nothing :(
as always, thanks for the vid dr.greg :)
Thank you! It takes a bit of time for bite settling =]
Getting mine off tomorrow after 6 years!!!
I have a question
What is the difference between metal brackets and the clear brackets?
Jake Leach The difference is their appearance and their material. They do the same job, it’s just that metal are made of metal and they are more visible while clear (don’t know what they are made of) aren’t really visible. Don’t hate me if I’m wrong, that’s just what I learned from a lot of braces videos 😂
Elin pretty much covered it! There are a few more little details that I will highlight in a video soon!
@@elenajewel3 YES
I have gone through so many retainers before discovering I grind my teeth apparently? I kept popping the wire. The one I have now has lasted me years....they added more plastic to the front. So far so good.
Very nice! (not the breaking part, but the fact that it seems resolved)
Yup, this really depends on the office & the location!
If you're in the UK that's a no. Maybe it depends on your office but most orthos in the UK will give your first free but if you loose or break it you'll have to pay to get the 2nd
@@irrelevance3859 Ikrr. Today my orthodontist said if I break them I have to pay £169 for new ones 😭😭
I am done with wearing invaslyn and now ready for the clear retainers!!!
Just got my Hawley yesterday. It's so painful but i think it's gonna worth it
That 1 dislike is from a prosthodontist 😂😭
Loll do you know who that is?? =P
I have braces now and this vid will most def be saved in my phone for when I get the man off
No clue why I’m watching this😂 I got my braces on 2 months ago.
Haha never too early to learn about retainers! They'll be off before you know it
I’ve only had braces for 2 months and I was told that I would need braces for 12 months but because I’m in my growth spurt I’m getting them off after only 3 months of braces!!
I’m watching and I don’t have braces idk if I’ll even afford them anytime soon
Sara Hisham braces are cool! But expensive😂 I won’t get them off until I’m 21 or 22 and I’m 19 I got braces when I was 18!
marissa hugo I’m so excited I’m getting it soon
Took my braces off today 😍I am so happy

I'm getting my braces off next Thursday!
How awesome is that!!
Finally I'll be getting my retainers this March!!!
I have a question, im 11 and im getting braces in a week. Do i have to retainers after my treatment?
yes
Yes but what ever your orthoronic tells you
I’ve had my braces for 6 years and I get them off on Monday (5 days)!! I’ve never watched this many ortho-themed videos on TH-cam as i have in the past couple months😂
Haha well there is plenty of them to watch on my channel!
I’m getting my braces tomorrow why am I here, I guess it’s never too early to learn xD
i’ve noticed all the designs are very nice
I’m finally getting my braces of on the 22nd of January 😆😆😆
Love your videos im a RDA who just got into ortho and i have learned a lot ! Also may I suggest you do a video on the forsus appliance? I would really like to know how to place them
That's a great recommendation! I will def do something to that effect =]
clear retainers were do uncomfortable for me. I couldn’t stand the feeling so I stopped wearing them and my teeth shifted. 😭 I’m getting braces for the second time and I’m definitely going for the hawleys this time.
Thanks for sharing that with everyone. Make sure you wear the hawleys!
Same here, I lost my clear retainers and just continued with life. My teeth shifted back and I'm now wearing braces again. As soon as I get them off, I will make sure to wear my retainers, lesson learnt.
I just got my braces yesterday and im already watching videos about retainers
Don’t know why I’m watching this this lol I only go mine in March and won’t be getting them off for another 12 months 😂💀
I'm getting mine in November and *crossed fingers* hoping that they don't take too long.
Never too soon to learn!! =]
Very interesting video, I have been wearing 6 months smile braces for about 5 months and think I will need to wear them longer because of the overcrowding of my lower teeth. I'm 52 year old and happy to wear braces and looking forward to the retainer. I have top and bottom braces so don't know what type of retainer's I will have. From Nancy in Scotland x
Can you mix and match retainers? Eg. Holly on bottom, clear on top
Yes, I’ve worn my wraparound Hawley on top with the clear Essix retainer on the bottom, and vice versa.
