God Bless you John MacArthur 🙏🏼
My eyes have recently been opened after being in the charismatic church for 23 years.
I am totally shocked, embarrassed, disappointed (in myself mainly for not knowing the word in context) ashamed because of all the people I have influenced.
On the positive side I am set free. I feel born again, again. A load has been taken off that I didn’t even realise was there. This is true freedom in Christ. Wow!! And it’s so easy! Matt 11:28.
I am reading the Bible now like never before. I didn’t even really know what context meant 🤦🏻‍♀️
The Charismatic Movement filled me with self, emotions, imagination, dreams, living in hope and trust from all the words and prophecies I received, waiting patiently for them to come to pass and never did.
But you still live in hope because if not, you lack faith and trust.
Now coming out of it I realise I was living in make believe, which as much as I loved and served faithfully, I was actually very self centred, waiting for all my desires, hopes, prophecies and words to come to pass. So extremely messed up. So deceived. And I would defend this movement and think the person I am now (in the truth and set free) was actually the deceived one and not lead by the Holy Spirit or didn’t have the Holy Spirit at all.
I have never repented so much much in my life.
I now live for Christ and Christ alone and I’m soooo excited and very humbled and grateful to our beautiful sovereign God.
I am also very grateful for all the biblical preachers 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
John MacArthur, Billy Crone, Justin Peters, Voddie Baucham, Susan Heck and many many more.
    I humbly thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🥰

This man has guts. He has done the unthinkable - he has challenged the Charismatic movement!! His SF conference was the best thing I have ever come across in explaining the issues. I wish he had done this years ago - and saved me from all the heartache and failed prophecies I experienced as a Charismatic. Thank you Lord Jesus for this man and those who stood with him at SF.

Denouncing a doctrine because of excesses in people's lives, through a false doctrine, may bring peace to some, but it won't make any friends in heaven.

I'm very grateful for the strange fire conferences, but I'm a continuationist. You don't necessarily have to be charismatic to believe that the Holy Spirit still works in the believers today. It's a very biblical concept and there's no solid biblical stance that combats that view.

    • @robertokello5201
      @robertokello5201 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

John McAthur is right to call out the charismatic heresy or other foolishness associated with it. But he speaks out of the ignorance of the power of the Spirit in those who allow the Spirit to do His work in them.
The point is "we must taste the spirits," but not to disregard ALL spiritual experiences, even those attributable to the Holy Spirit.
If we all followed the cessationist approach of John MacArthur, how would we know "what was, is, & is to come," as the bible says the Spirit would let us know these things? Like there is a prophecy of a coming depression like crisis coming to America. How can those who follow his teachings know about this?
Embracing what MacArthur is teaching is to disregard a great portion of the scriptures! How can he teach "the truth" while disregarding a portion of the scriptures? This is unheard of! And many people around the world follow his teachings! If he is an example of "the elders," surely many of us will fall in a ditch together with "the elders!"

I'm from Singapore, I came from a taoist background, and I'm the only one saved in my entire family. Before I had a huge encounter with God (in a 3 days conference that happened in 2013) I had depression, suicidal thoughts all the time, anger management issues, lust, addiction to pornography, gore movies, extreme violence, negative thoughts, constantly judging people etc.
Building up to that conference, somehow Holy Spirit gave me supernatural grace to fast and pray and seek Him, and I was also partly fed up with my own life of calling myself a christian but not living the life that Jesus walked in the bible.
I was also previously like most of you here who were reserved about the manifestations of God. However, during the second day of that conference, I went up for an altar call and immediately I fell to the ground because the presence of the Lord was very strong. This is stated in the bible, many of the old saints couldn't even stand in the presence of the Lord. (Not because of the speakers, not because of the location, but I highly believe that it was because I publicly proclaimed that I wanted to seek Jesus with all my heart when I made that decision to walk up to the front of a church in front of 100s of people.)
I couldn't even stop myself from screaming because I felt like a tiny speckle of dust in the presence of God, and instantly He chased away my depression. I felt Him cut away the ties of my past that I couldn't see but was tied to my soul. I was hungrier for God than ever ever since.
During the second day, I had my dose of joy. I wouldn't term it holy laughter because it simply scares people away, there seems to be nothing holy to be deduced about it because what happens internally only the Spirit of God can see and testify.
So when Jesus came to speak to me about hope, I was deeply elated, and I couldn't stop laughing. I cared about NOBODY around me, I was on the floor again in the weighty presence of God was there, healing my soul and speaking to me a lot about hope, my future, and HOW MUCH Jesus believed in me and fearfully made me for a great purpose in His kingdom. OF COURSE, if you hear these words from Jesus, would you stop laughing? No, you won't :) IT was true happiness, to the brim of my soul - I never had it before.
Ever since that encounter (any more during those 3 days), it convicted me that I needed to study the Word of God faithfully to make sure that these manifestations are kept in alignment with God. And it made me hunger from then till now (so far 3 years) to seek God deeper and to seek His word deeper.
Lastly, I would like to also give my thoughts about how I agree that manifestations come with both the real and the false. Demons will always try to make a fake imitation of God. We have to discern very carefully, to see the the fruits AFTER the manifestation to know whether or not it is holy and of God. We really cannot tell much when the general manifestation is happening.
And finally, the more important things to chase after is to become like Jesus, to abide in His love when we make decisions and speak things about different denominations. It's not so much on focusing on the outward appearance, but the Lord always does something with the heart, and looks at the heart. Sometimes we worship movements more than God.

I was raised in a pentecostal church. After finally hearing the gospel in my 30's and actually becoming a Christian for real this time, I decided I was going to come at the Bible like I knew nothing at all. I began to research the beliefs of my childhood. My eyes were opened that what happened on the day of Pentecost is not what is occurring today. What is happening today is a counterfeit. Jesus said it is wicked generation who look for signs and wonders. The Holy Spirit points us to Christ and Christ is enough! As someone who grew up in the midst of pentecostal chaos I am truly grateful for John Macarthur doing this conference and writing this book. Something that is past due. Thanks for posting this video. :)

I have to stand with John MacArthur. He has addressed an error in the charismatic movement when many are to afraid to take the errors head on. We have felt this here where we are in the UK, with many of our charismatic friends not listening to the whole Strange fire message before condemning it.
We are reformed in our theology now but I was in the word of faith movement for over 18 years and I am so thankful for people like John MacArthur who has been faithful in standing up for God's Word and the Truth it is. Strange fire has answered so many questions for me and I praise God for the courage of these men and their ministry.

I, too, am SO thankful for this work. I was so caught up and confused by the teachings in my former church. Thankfully a Christian friend reached out to me and just simply said, "Friend, I see some red flags with your church's doctrine...and the close association with Bethel church." Well, I inquired what she meant...and she proceeded to give me her testimony. I, in turn, did my own research and I was shocked by what I found. I didn't realize I was starting to go the "broad way"... I was reminded of many scriptural truths. I praise God for His mercy and grace. I tried to tell others in the church, but they were not as receptive...I was told I'm putting "God in a box" and "Functioning out of a place of fear"..."Father, Son and Holy Scriptures", etc. I can pray for them....and do. I love those people.

My faith in the body of Christ and church leaders has been restored. Also, referring to your previous group as foolishness is a common thing that cult members almost universally do with their former Christian affiliation. This doesn't sound good to me, Elaine: you should be cautious about suddenly " finding the true Church" ( again, the usual statement made by Mormons & Jehovah's Witnesses). I don't like what you are testifying to here. Let me guess: if you have shared my comments with any of your new leaders, they will say that I am against the truth, right? Wrong, Elaine, I am not against truth.

Because of Drs. MacArthur and Sproul, Legonair Ministry teaching fellows, Paul Washer, Voddie Baucham, and other Reformed Pastors and Teachers the Lord delivered me from the Arminian church, Pentecostal movement, and false teachers on January 29, 2022. I was lost even though I attended many churches including Calvary Chapel. I am now Reformed in my Theology and have embraced the doctrine of election and predestination. It is most assuring to know the Lord has chosen us before the foundations of the earth and Jesus will not lose one of us that the Father gives Him. Embracing Reformed Theology has caused me to leave my former church and it seems I've lost two very good friends who said I've become apostate simply because I now embrace Reformed Theology. It's been difficult finding a church in my area that is solidly Reformed but I know the Lord will direct me to one. I believe the Lord has His elect in many false churches and in His timing, He will call them out as He has done for many of us.

People might not like what he is saying..But I was blessed by the strange fire conference as many of my experiences in the NAR and WOF circles had me scratching my head as naively I thought that all that called itself church and Christian was infact church and Christian but boy was I wrong. Out of personal study of the word and seeking God He was faithful to point me in the way of truth whereby I saw/see and am convinced that God keeps His WORD the scriptures testify saying
“As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him” Ps 18:30
Nothing has given me more solace like knowing I can trust His word for He watches over His word to perform it.
“Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.” Jeremiah 1:12
Jesus said this “sanctify them by thy truth THY WORD IS TRUTH.” John 17: 17 (Emphasis mine)
Jesus words are so plain here you would have to simply not understand in order to misunderstand them! And if you seek to shroud that as if what He plainly said means something else or something “deeper” even if one used the scripture.. then YOU whosoever you are, are being dishonest and handle the word deceitfully.
“ Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2 Corinthians 4:1-7
    Jesus also said this
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, AND THERE ARE FEW WHO FIND IT.”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:13-14‬ ‭(emphasis mine)
those words are also plain as day, one would have to do some weird twisting to misunderstand them and make them mean something else even if but to themselves.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)
Be careful to judge righteous judgement for we are called to do so! And you can only do that by the fixed standard of truth..the WORD!
Despite how many may “feel” this is a faithful endeavor to call all men back to the word.
See that you don’t despise the Lords reproof. You know what reproof is? Rebuke, blame, disapproval and critique...and He does it in love because He knows best where errors lead and no son of His is without chastisement. And He does this by the Spirit through the Word.

In defense of Calvary Chapel, I sat under Chuck Smith's teaching for 10 years and can testify that it was 100% gospel. I know John believes that the charasmatic movement spawned off of Calvary but Calvary itself is not charasmatic. There wasn't any of the goofy things going on in there that charasmatics are doing today. No falling down, speaking in tongues, screaming, non stop hypnotic music, repetitious chanting and emotionalism. Also no, faith healing or name it and claim it and the power is in you prosperity new age teaching. Chuck taught through the Bible, cover to cover and never skipped passages on Hell or sin. He also favored many of the old hymns for worship. Yes, they allowed different styles of music but the lyrics were always Biblical. Mostly Psalms set to different music.
Their attitude toward the hippies was come as you are instead of turning them away like some churches were because the men had long hair and wore sandals. He didn't want to shut them out because of the way they looked. He wanted to reach out to a lost culture strung out on drugs and given over to sexual promescuity and present them with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of those people got saved, transformed and some became the great pastors we have today. I have no doubt that Chuck Smith was true Biblical Christian, a Godly man and was a great teacher of the Bible. I never found any of his teaching heretical or unbiblical and am grateful for his ministry. Maybe some people came out of there and created charasmatic churches but they didn't learn that from Chuck. Sometimes I think John gets a little hung up on the clothes and the style of music. As long as the Biblical truth is being taught in the church and the worship is reverent and honest, the rest is just personal taste.

Trucker_Pete Thank you! You said exactly what I wanted to say. I’m listening to this man because I agree with him in many ways and he’s a wonderful teacher. But I attend Calvary Chapel and i have never thought of it as Charismatic! God bless you :)
I actually lead worship and stay away from all the new, feel good songs that aren’t Biblically sound. I learned that from my pastor... I felt sad to hear Mr. MacArthur’s statements about CC.

@@whosoeversaved4ever474 I feel the same way. I like John MacArthur a lot and listen to his teaching regularly but he seems to have a bone to pick with Calvary that I don't really understand. I still attend Calvary and wouldn't be there if anything unbiblical or charismatic was going on there. I just felt I had to speak up for Calvary and Chuck Smith because I didn't see or hear any the charismatic behavior or false teaching that John accuses them of. Chuck Smith is one of the great teachers that has made a huge impact in this world and the lives of many of people. He should be honored as such.
I think John has a very traditional view of dress, conduct and music that makes it hard for him to accept other styles as legitimate as well. He believes everything in church should look and sound a certain way or there's something wrong with it but it's just his personal taste. It only really matters how God thinks about those things anyway.
Have a blessed day and weekend in Jesus Christ.

Thank you all for commenting! I am just coming out of a charismatic church/ prosperity gospel teaching church. Anyway I first came across sound teaching when I came across a podcast for Calvary chapel of Pasedena. Xavier Ríes is an awesome teacher. I recently found a Calvary chapel in my area and I too find that the teaching style is very expositional.
I do like John MacArthurs teaching as well. But I was starting to question the Calvary chapel because of what John was saying at strange fire and in this video.
I thank you all for confirming that Calvary chapel is a gospel teaching church!

@@followerofchrist5800 Remember that Pastor Chuck Smith authored a book 'Charisma vs. Charismania' that being said, if you've read the book you would know that Calvary Chapel does consider itself a 'charismatic' church which simply means that we believe that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for today and should be practiced by the Church. What Calvary Chapel is not practicing today, is the 'charismania' that many churches practice. There is an over-emphasis of the work of the Holy Spirit through the gifts that is not biblical. Calvary Chapel seeks to see the Holy Spirit move through the gifts, yet in a biblical way. Often, all the gifts are thrown out because of the controversial 'gift of tongues' but with a good study of 1 Corinthians 14, you'll see that the gift of tongues is a great gift for personal, private prayer, since it is directed to God & not to man, it is really a prayer language that builds up the believer who uses it. Not all have it, but it has great use for the believer who it has been given to by the Spirit who distributes the gift to believers as He wills.

Nice testimony. I heard about a man who celebrated 30 years as a member of a certain local church. I thought about that particular denomination as dying out quite a while before he joined it. How could a man join a church that died 50 years ago, stay there for 30 more, and not notice anything
      wrong?

And I really couldn't prove my suspicions. But listening to what MacArthur is saying, bolsters my confidence that I really am in tune with the Lord. And not saying that with a haughty spirit, but rather, being up lifted to know, that just because I receive backlash, doesn't mean I'm wrong. Rather, I draw comfort in knowing that I am in tune with God, and I need not get discouraged when my thoughts and feelings on a matter, are not received nor respected. Thank you Jesus ❤️

The strange fire conference series really woke me up to the truth, for I was an early saved christian and full of years of false doctrine seeking God in all the wrong places with all the faces, as I continued diligently I was lead to a small Baptist Church and that preach gave the simple gospel of Jesus Christ and I understand for the first time who Jesus Christ truly is, why He died on that cross and that I was a sinner no matter how good I thought I was as a person, I needed to be redeemed from my sin born nature by the believe in who Jesus Christ is, He's death burial and resurrection for the forgiveness of my sins, I came for that day accepted, confessed I m a sinner and asked Jesus to come into my life and save me, was baptized and my life has changed, is changing as I walk this life out with Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior, the sanctification process is on going as I grow deeper in understanding by the word of God, I thank God for His mercy and grace, and for preachers like John McCarthy!

You are not in a Faith building atmosphere, generally speaking, in a Baptist assembly. That is going to have greater consequences as you go on in life. You called the previous church " Pentecostal ", but that is not what a local assembly is about: how about a Christian Church, where you are taught that the Holy Spirit can be received in a separate act of faith after having received Jesus. That is wordy, but I like it better if one desires to label their Christian Church.

David Fritch What does the Bible call truth? Jesus says "Your word is truth" in His high priestly prayer. 2 Timothy 3:16 says the Bible is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. It's the Bible that's truth, not experiences. All these special revelations don't add to the Bible, nor are they necessary for anything. All they accomplish is making those who lack faith and need a sign for reassurance feel good. That's why they're fake. It takes more faith to say, "God, this is in Your hands, and I pray Your will be done," than, "I command this to happen!" One is relying on your own faith to get things done, while the other is putting your faith wholly in God. Faith is an assurance of things unseen. Experiences aren't faith. They're unfaith. That's not even taking into account the fact that the signs gifts have ceased, and the Bible acknowledges this.

I agree in part. God did & does use 'special expereinces' to help us as in many many Biblical accounts, also I hear of similar in places where the Gospel is being shared in new ground. Even hearing & answering our prayers is revealing He hears & cares. It's a difference however then chasing miracles. Note God in the flesh (Lord Jesus Christ) performed miracles but He also said this: "An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth".-Matthew 12.39-40. So go figure...

Sure, along with the Seeker Sensitive movement, they will get you to Church on Sunday morning with all their theatrics, but once you start to actually pray to Jesus Christ, repent of your sins, and start to grow in faith, it becomes painfully obvious that the Charismatics are interested in building the size of their Churches, not delivering the Gospel to the people.

It's interesting to see the immense amount of criticism towards John saying he's too "legalistic." Perhaps not everyone will agree with everything he says, and that is fine. We need to be testing the words of every leader in the church today against what the bible says, including John, as I know he would agree with that. However, Paul and Peter repeatedly warn against false teachers in the church and Paul even gives Timothy the command to correct those with false teaching. Is not John doing this? Even if you disagree with John on some issues you have to commend him for boldly sticking up for the truth of the word. I also see a lot of comments about dropping petty arguments for unity and peace within the church. While unity and peace are absolutely essential, are they above truth? I'd say no and that sacrificing truth for unity is not healthy in building community. (see 2 Timothy 3: 16.)
Back to Paul. In writing to Timothy the second time, Paul is nearing the end of his life. The very last command he gives to Timothy is this coming from chapter 4: "In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry."
Preach the word. That is what our leaders should be doing to equip believers in making disciples of all people. Unfortunately, it seems we're seeking after revival instead of making disciples. More and more people are attending church for an "experience" or spiritual high, but are coming away with no instruction in the word or challenge to go out into the world and teach others to do the same. Jesus at the end of his life is praying for the disciples and says this in John 17:17: 17 "Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth." Christian sanctification comes through hearing, learning, and knowing the word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.
It makes me genuinely sad when I see those who think studying scripture and wanting to know the truth is too boring for them. Those that chase after spiritual manifestations, signs, and wonders while they forget that its a miracle we even wake up with breath in our lungs every morning because the Lord allows it. I urge everyone to read the scripture with as little presuppositional bias as possible. Study it diligently. Follow the commands of Christ to make disciples. Understand the most important aspect of life is to radically abandon ourselves for the sake of Jesus and making his gospel known to the ends of the earth.
    God bless you all.

***** How we love our neighbor depends absolutely on how we love our God, through a personal relationship with Him. If you love Him supremely, then, His love is in you through the power of His Holy Spirit who lives in you, as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. And that should be the basis of how you ought to love your neighbor, as Jesus described it in Luke 10:29-37.
Golfster is correct for pointing out the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It only becomes complicated if not outright impossible when Jesus Christ is not the Lord of your life.

    • @KATAERO1
      @KATAERO1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

***** The devil knows who Jesus is, but decided to oppose Him anyway. A personal relationship means when He speaks through His Word in the Bible, you listen and obey, and when you speak through prayers, He listens and grants them in due time. Being an enemy of God is not a personal relationship, OK, as much as, that between two opposing soldiers try to destroy each other.
That's what the Bible is for, to reveal the heavenly meanings of the same words, often in contrast to the their worldly meanings.
For the meaning of "love," the original Greek translation categorizes it into 3 kinds, brotherly love (phileo), romantic love (eros), and sacrificial love (agape). So, for a Christian marriage relationship, God expects nothing short of a sacrificial love (agape) on the part of the husband PERIOD.
Most people reject the Gospel because they don't feel the need for it yet. But do you know how many of them will change their mind right after the Rapture and the beginning of the Great Tribulation, as the cosmic clock is ticking toward the End of the World?
Jesus said you can't serve 2 masters, right? So, either He is your Lord or He is not, with nothing in between. And without the power of His Holy Spirit living in you, "picking up the cross and follow Him is absolutely impossible. If you know for certain that you're saved and going to heaven, why should you care for the worldly things which will be all burned up in the End, right? It's just differences in perspectives, either you have a heavenly one or a worldly one. That's all!

***** I was born & raised Buddhist by my parents, grandparents, and great grandmother from a long line of Thai Buddhist ancestry, so, I can tell you that the Gospel didn't make any sense to me at all in the beginning, because no human beings could ever prove to me that God exists, much less whether Jesus Christ is He. That had been the case until I felt the need for God that I began to seek Him, and by His grace, was found by Him. That was almost 6 years ago. Since then, the Lord has worked through me to bring 7 (former) Buddhists to Himself when they're born again in Jesus Christ. It's still a puzzle to me whether God choose man or the other way around.
All those 7 all told me that they never thought God exists until He revealed Himself to them that they believed. Faith is a totally alien concept in Buddhism, so until He gave them faith, they could not possibly believe in Him.

Nevertheless, all the truth is always found in the word of God and His word should always be the first place to go since all men are sinners and no one's ideas or commentaries can ever supersede the word of God;

If the "theology" of the Charismatics were true then *everyone* would receive miracles. And not just one person here and there.
People from different countries could come and preach and they'd miraculously be understood though speaking in other tongues.
The fact that these things are not what is happening in Pentecostalism among people who say they believe in continuation is strange, very strange.

I love John and I love the strange fire movement. However, I don't understand him attacking Chuck Smith. Though Calvary Chapel pastors may be continuists, I don't see them acting in ways that pentecostals do. I was apart of a pentecostal church, but left because of the unbiblical practices going on. Where did I go? Calvary Chapel. I went there because there was sound doctrine without all of the dramatics. No running, screaming, slaying in the spirit, or crazy tongues. Just teaching. So I don't understand why he keeps mentioning Chuck Smith.
Also, Smith has a book called Charisma vs Charismania, where he tells of his leaving the Foursquare denomination because of crazy unbiblical theatrics.

Christa Otto because it’s a slippery slope and was a church denomination built on Chuck Smith’s personality and influence. Observe where the denomination went *immediately* upon his death. @@isaiah92- huh.... what is he right about regarding Calvary Chapel's theology? It would help a lot if you specify. If you mean they are not reformed then yes, they are not reformed. But they are correct. Read all of scripture and not just Calvinist proof texts. Also, just read the gospels and see the character of Jesus and the Pharisees. And, Jesus said we could identify false prophets by their fruits and John Calvin's fruits were tyranny, and persecution and murder of those who didn't share his opinions. "Who so ever believeth" and the fact that it is not God's will that any should perish are clear enough for me. But maybe that's not what you were talking about. The Gifts of the Spirit are not an "age movement" and Nowhere do you see that the Gifts have ceased in the bible. There are Many who preach a false Jesus but that doesn't mean there is not the True Jesus Therefore just because there are False ministers that doesn't mean that True Ministers do not demonstrate the Gifts by the Spirit as the Spirit wills. We can not put aside the WORK of the Holy Spirit because these Gifts are to EDIFY the Body ( 1 Corinth 12:7, Ephesians 4:11-13)

I grew up in a church, in the 60's & 70's, that was very prone to the charismatic/strange fire theology. I don't think I can recall a week where there was not some tongues and it's associated "manifestations". I believe, as a result, at 18 when I left home for college, I ran from the church and God. Largely because there was always something in my spirit that just didn't gravitate toward the charismatic theology. 35 years later God got a hold of my heart, changed my life, and led me, in scripture, to a more reformed doctrine. I could not be more thankful. The Strange Fire book and conference has been an amazing thing to watch. It is spot on!

Ken Horn- editor of the Pentecostal Evangel wrote in today's magazine that the strange fire conference was bad. But I strongly disagree. I'm glad that people like John MacArthur EXPOSE the false converts today. Whenever I try to reach out to people it's ALWAYS these hypocrites that oppose me. Because it's offensive to tell the truth, the truth is divisive and exclusive. Absolute truth is Jesus Christ, and people in His day knew He was a man of integrity and did not pay attention to people's egos (Mark 12:14). If you have something against the truth, it's because of pride and love of sin, love the truth and you'll pursue it. Romans 10:2, your zeal for God should be based on knowledge and not emotion or self gratification. If your not willing to witness to someone because of fear of offense, you don't truly love anybody..

My own experience is that John MacArthur is correct. I've seen how that strange fire will even dissipate after a while, but everyone is still falling over, writhing on the floor, or running around the sanctuary. They begin to feel that's their method of worship. Babbling in gibberish, prophecies that are either vague or don't come true, people acting drunk in the spirit, etc. So you begin to see all these manifestations done in a half-hearted way after a time. A that point, the Church is basically a mediocre, apostate church without any solid Bible doctrine. And as I have said in other videos, the Bible seems to take a back seat. Usually not a lot of Bible opening when this Strange Fire takes hold. I saw Cindy Jacobs get introduced one Sunday night, she got up and asked everyone who was in the upcoming Christmas production to come forward. They did, she waved her arms or something, and everyone just feel over backwards. She didn't even open her Bible. It was all this mass hypnosis, and just plain faking by a lot of people.

+Paul Jenkins Yes, it's true that Charismatics need to open their Bibles rather than roll around and give false prophecies, etc. However, Satan hates things of the Holy Spirit, and so does John MacArthur. I've heard him disparage people "feeling the presence of Christ" (which I have, during times of extreme crisis, although I am not and never was Charismatic), I've heard him mock people "waving their arms," while raising our hands in worship is all over the Bible (Solomon did this when he prayed in 1 Kings)and it obviously pleases God.'
I've heard him TELL GOD in a prayer, "You spoke then were silent." It was significant to me (but obviously lost on John), that just four months after the Strange Fire conference, mid-way through his Shepherd's Conference, with more than 3,000 pastors in attendance, the lights when out, and John had to finish his sermon in the dark, with a flash light. The Holy Spirit just spoke loud and clear to John and all of them, yet he said, "I'm still trying to process why this happened; I'll just leave it to the Lord."

I HAVE seen that before. I knew a music pastor who seemed to be into secular music, even productions where Jesus was not even mentioned, and he had the counseling skills of an army boot.. His night to preach went EXACTLY as you said MacArthur's went. The lights went out, and other malfunctions in the sanctuary, and he could not even preach. They tried a portable microphone, etc., but NO. It's like the Holy Spirit slapped him down. And I could see it. Just like you, I left seeing the Holy Spirit perhaps work in a way that I had not expected, but frankly I understood. I saw then that for this pastor, Church was simply the company he worked for or something.

+Paul Jenkins Wow, good way to put it. "The church was simply a company he worked for or something." Sad, as I used to think Johnny Mac was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I received his 3 daily devotionals daily and read his books, but now that I've heard myself what he believes about the precious blood of my Savior, as well as encouraging people to take the Mark, well, I have to be obedient to the Lord in His Word to test those who claim to be apostles.

+Paul Jenkins I wanted to share with you a Scripture the Lord led me to. Ed Dingess put me down for my observation that God judged John MacArthur when the lights went out on him mid-sermon 4 months after the Strange Fire conference. He basically accused me of seeing charismatic/pentecostal "buggaboos" everywhere (although I'm not and never was charismatic). The Lord led me to a Scripture I was able to refute him with though, Isaiah 45:7, 'I FORM LIGHT AND CREATE DARKNESS, I make well-being and CREATE CALAMITY, I am the Lord, who does ALL THESE THINGS." Case closed.

"If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing." Corinthians 13:2. The Strange Fire Q & A didn't have a lot of love for those who are lost. And frankly, they were kind of smug. Furthermore, Christian music has definitely helped my faith. I think God would be well pleased at seeing an entire congregation, with hands raised, singing "Our God is an awesome God, he reigns in Heaven and earth with wisdom, power, and love, Our God is an awesome God."

    Spiritual arrogance my bad
I was saved in a Baptist Church in 1971 at the age of 15 being blessed with a bit of an idyllic memory it was very easy to memorise Scripture in detail. This made me very popular in bible quizzes.
I also understood the T.U.L.I.P. doctrines and also firmly believed them, even though I did have a burden to witness and preach the gospel.
After spending many hours of bible study the cessation doctrine started worrying me tremendously and also my relationship with God seemed so shallow and I needed more
18 October 1978 the Lord gloriously filled me with the precious Holy Spirit early in the morning about 3am while I was alone in my room there was no fanfare, there was no emotional up sweep, there were no clever Pentecostal clichés only a wonderful sensation of being so close to my Savior that it was almost tangible.
I was transformed from a intellectual know it all self righteous Calvinist to a intellectual know it all self righteous Pentecostal
It is a human trait to believe that we know all the answers but this attitude is very carnal. Spiritual pride and self righteousness is wrong and sinful.
God is not a Calvinist, God is not a Charismatic, God is not a Pentecostal or a Roman Catholic, evangelical He is our Father who loves all His children
And by children I do not mean everyone I mean all those who have received Jesus as per John 1:12

+Bobby Baker ok just a couple points
1 All those who are born again are indwelt by the Holy Spirit OT or new
2 the coming of the Holy Spirit on pentacost had many ramifications including gifts for prophecy to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, wind is the symbol of the Holy Spirits presence, fire is the symbol of His cleansing power and judgment, and inspired speech speaks of the reversal of what was done at Babel in judgement separating the peoples into different groups now bringing people of various languages together from every tribe and tongue, reunited as Gods chosen people.
For the early church, specifically the apostles, the outworking of the Holy Spirit through these signs, including healing, was to validate the gospel they were preaching. As you move through Acts it becomes clear that these specific gifts for this specific time begins to cease. Thats not to say, all gifts are ceased. And i know the bible is clear that satan will do signs to lead people astray. So im very careful not to jump on the signs bandwagon, which seems, to a large degree, to take peoples eyes off Jesus Christ and onto the signs. Im afraid many of the many who say to Jesus on the day of judgement will say Lord, Lord didnt we do this or that and He will say depart from me, I never knew you...
some of what ive gleaned from scripture...my words of course

so thankful true men of God are standing firm on the truth of scripture and not basing their opinions on emotional experiences or personal expectations.
Thank you Dr Macarthur for continuing to stand and speak against this corruption. People hate when you confront their error with the truth, they love their sin and do what they see as right in their own eyes.
I started in a pentacostal church and it was very disturbing. As a new believer just learning what the bible says then seeing and hearing things being done and said that scripture clearly doesnt teach was troubling to say the least. A plain thoughtful reading of the biblemakes it obvious of how much corruption and apostasy is in the professing church these days.

Miracles exist but not as a gift but as a liberal action of the will of God.He do what please Him and nobody can go against his Will.

first know what a miracle is in biblical language. Don't put 18th and 19th century terms that came from that movement to biblical language! If a person has one leg, then when that person grows a new leg, thats a miracle. Unlearn people. God help us! My people are destroy for lack of knowledge. Pentecostal have people mess up!

Christopher Brewer You never hear about the miracle of the new birth? Nothing to do with a new leg :)

the new birth is a common thing among believers, Just like women having babies, that does not surprise us. Now let me see you change Water to wine, that is a miracle!

Just curious, Dr.'MacArthur, were there any DOCTRINAL compromises that Chuck Smith made with the "Jesus Movement"? I know there were a few accommodations made in peripheral style issues, like dress code, music style, etc

Not major salvation altering ones, but important ones regarding sovereignty and sacraments.

I've left behind a Charismatic church, and my faith has grown by leaps and bounds. Once you know the Bible, it becomes very apparent that the Charismatics are going off the deep end. I've seen Rodney Howard Browne, Jesse Duplantis, Joyce Meyer, etc. and they were very entertaining, but none of them even cracked a Bible. I love the Scriptures, not some phony signs and wonders.

All who criticize John MacArthur on the Charismatic movement should first read "Strange Fire"; I have, and he is biblically correct. Or to put it another way, we should never criticize when we don't have the facts.
John is only concerned about teaching biblical truth, and we would all be better off if we were as devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ as much as he is. (I listen to his sermons an average 21 to 25 sermons a week and thank God for him, his work, his ministry, and his heart for the Lord.)
But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 1 Timothy 4:8

I saw him sitting with men here on TH-cam in a video from the conference laughing and mocking the people that where let astrey buy these charismatic satanic leaders. Barking like dogs but instead of crying for them before the Lord they sit arrogant and self-righteous and laughing about it. It was nothing less then disgusting to me.

The Lord be forever praised for saving me out of the Charismatic movement!
Not only did He show me that the teachings of that movement are heresies but, I miraculously found material about cults as well. That helped me see that I had not been a Christian during the decades of my life as a Pentecostal on three different continents but, I had been a member of a cult.
I'll never stop thanking Him and I'll never stop exposing the Charismatics!

The church is too dedicated to avoiding necessary conflict, and I'm glad to see people like Johnny Mac who are willing to bring conflict when it's necessary. Things like false doctrine, people who preach salvation without repentance, etc much be lovingly corrected, just like Christ corrects us but never loses his love for us.

Charismatics are those who practice the gifts.
Who are those people? Those who receive the gifts given by the Holy Spirit.
Pastor is a gift. Teacher is a gift. I believe writing is a gift too.
John MacArthur is a pastor and a teacher, and a writer. So, he is a charismatic too.

The word alone without the Spirit, is like a body without breath in it.
"Unless a man is born again of the Spirit and of water, he shall not enter heaven." And "the Spirit will lead you in all truths." "As you live in the Spirit, walk you also in the Spirit." "Quench not the Spirit." "As many as are led by the Spirit, to them gave He power to be the Sons of God." Also, "do not disregard prophecies."
It is right to point out the fake & foolish heretical excesses in the charismatic movement, but is also foolishness to disregard all spiritual experiences, as such. Whoever does so, "quenches the Spirit" & "disregards prophecies."
Follow Jesus Christ, be born again of the Spirit, & be led by Him, otherwise you will not walk the straight line, but will deviate to the left or to the right.

    I appreciate your honesty Dr
    MacArthur,.
I would suggest you take pastor Chuck's advice and simply teach the word of God simply... because you lost me. I'm not listening to you anymore. You said that a person can't change until they are proven wrong; if this is the case then I suppose you'll never change... because you seem to be not brave enough to be wrong about anything. I think you're afraid to feel anything at all. This does not make the whole Charismatic movement deadly and everybody in it wrong. Pastor Chuck started Calvary Chapel because he wanted nothing to do the Pentecostal background he came out of. He broke away from John Wimber and his teaching methods because he thought they were too extreme. But it seems you won't allow anyone to prove you wrong, so I guess you can't be changed (you said it, in the piece, so). Just because emotions are present, does not mean that the truth is not.
