6:55 Wheels face down on cement 😱 literal jump scare, made me scream out loud 🤣. I believe the Perelli’s have a lip that provides some gap, but I may have nightmares tonight. overall good video, thank you for sharing. 👍🏻
I got scared when he was beating that pry tool against the wheel to wedge it in, talk about scratches
Haha, I guess I can believe how many people have already commented on this, but I would be CRAZY not to check this beforehand! Believe me, the tire gives plenty of gap.
@@Xeyedjohn Yeah, I actually put some of that electrical tape on the pry tool out of caution, but I checked closely and the tool did not leave any marks from those beatings :)
I'm going to try asking the service center to remove them before I take delivery. I don't know why Tesla has the silly aero covers on a performance model no less! Really wish there was a version of the rims that doesn't have any of the aero, We don't care about efficiency if we're buying the performance 😂
There's another video of someone removing them without issue or scratching the rim... Some people shouldn't make TH-cam videos.
You should remove this video. None of this is necessary. Use a plastic pry tool and pull the caps off. No damage and I took all of mine off with the tire on the car in 5 minutes.
Congratulations!! ⚡️😎I was just going to look up a video on this and here it is. I couldn’t get mine off today without breaking them. Not sure why they are so hard to take off. 🤷🏽 This is a bad flaw on Tesla’s end. Service centers will break these like crazy if they need to get them off.
Got this same car, went to remove the caps. Realized that they look better w the caps on actually believe it or not. The rims loook way beefier and provide a much nicer contrast of black with the caps on.
Absolutely right. I also like the chunkier look🎉
@@kennethandersen7417 I’m changed my mind since then and removed the caps. My goodness the rims underneath are soooo nice. Covering them with the caps is criminal
I took all 20 of mine out and there's not a single scratch anywhere. The plastic tabs DO leave a plastic residue but that rubs off with just some Windex and a paper towel. With the wheel upside down on the ground as you showed it, take all of the wire "springs" off first. After that, if you just press down and in on the two main plastic tabs on the sides, they just fall out with very little pressure on the tabs as you push! The small ribs you pointed to may scratch over time but I took all mine off when the car had about 75 miles on it.
This video is more like “what you shouldn’t do”
I used a plastic pry tool, and they popped right off without removing the wheels and without scratching. Took me a total of about three minutes to do the entire car.
I did the same in the collection centre car park. Any marks came off with a little polish.
Yep, video poster is a little dramatic at times.
me too but i buff off my scratches with detailer cleaners
oh what kinda plastic pry tool?
@@Zergcerebrates not sure what its called..just a plastic tool got form my neighber..just have to get the cover started popping loose then pull it out by hand
There're videos now on how to remove these easily with a plastic pry tool - takes a few seconds to pry each one off, and doesn't scratch the rims at all.
I think it looks better with covers on.
yes
I wish I thought the same. I don't think it looks bad with the covers on, but just not as good.
Covers look like 💩
Interesting, I’m guessing the wheel finish is paint and not powder coating since they scratched easily. Since these caps were engineered to stay on (imagine them flying all over the highway) maybe we are lucky the wheel looks as good as it does…there could have been holes behind all the inserts!
The only solution for ease of removal I can think of involves heat which most likely would ruin the caps. Insightful video, thanks Mark 🤩.
Congrats on the new ride🤙🏻
i was told the covers are design to take off and on..take them off for the track and back on for daily driving
The same minor rim scratches probably will happen during the first set of tire replacements or small rocks and debris from freeway driving. The good news is the covers are off now.
So just pop em out asap? The longer you leave em on the more they’ll keep scratching?
The least you could do is place a soft towel or blanket on the concrete if you are going to put the wheels facing down.
Tires protrude alot, no issue hitting wheel
@@mmark300 I’m gonna try removing the blades with a plastic pry tool like others have stated. I have the same color combo as yours.
its too bad buying a 50K+ car and the wheels comes with covers...that is a joke! maybe tesla should have given a choice of the uber wheels? anyway i remove the covers just like you and left the small covers to hide the holes..the wheels look good now..congrats! and love my M3 stealth gray
btw: i pull off my covers without taking off the wheels off the car..i used a plastic pry tool..i agree there are some possible scratches...i remove most of the with detail cleaners
they put the covers on to maximize EPA rated range. it's there for a reason. they don't actually look that bad and consumers have the option to remove them if they want. It's a win-win. Congrats on your M3 stealth gray I love that color so much
I wonder would heating the plastic before removal help. Even leaving the wheels face up in the sun for an hour or two might help.
7:33 🫣🫣 I think you scratch the hole wheel on the street by working like this without something to protect between street and wheel? Normaly Tesla wheels have too narrow tyres and too wide rims, or is this not by 2024 Performance?
look much better than hub cap
Hey,Are you interested in reviewing the car ozone generator? Thank you
Hey Tesla Mark, where did you get the mudflaps?
@@bernardbrown3919 EVBase. I did a video on them - th-cam.com/video/ptHa3vOkhQM/w-d-xo.html
I wanna see someone do the opposite where you leave on the 5 large ones but remove the small ones to excentuate the length of the longer covers.
Did you notice increase noise after removing the wheel covers? I ask because I had a shop take mine off while they did front PPF, tint and ceramic and I'm noticing it's louder at highway speeds. Almost sounds like either wind noise from the wheels. I'm hoping it's that and not something else/more serious.
No, I didn't notice that, but I wasn't even thinking about it. Seems like more noise may be possible, but not sure...
Hello, which mud flaps did you use ? Thanks

When you take them off.. how much mileage are you loosing? A lot ?
The older caps were worth 2-3% but I haven't seen any data on these.
ok, so are these alleged scratches actually scuffing from the plastics inserts scuffing against the metal wheels? can the scuffing be buffed off? maybe some light polishing compound? seems odd that plastic scratches metal......
Vast majority is scuffing but there are a couple scratches that I know of
What happened to the holes in the wheels ?
7:00 great video but putting them like this also scratches the wheels
How much wheigt this plastik parts per wheel? So we have to calculate aero efficiency vs. rotating mass, and simple physics, rotating mass is always better as light as possible.
Omg you don’t have to remove the wheels to take them off. Just use a plastic pry tool.
I think they look better with the caps on. Seriously, not worth removing or worring about.
I wish I thought the same. I don't think it looks bad with the covers on, but just not as good.
Don't they serve a perpose?
Yes, suppose to help with range
@@gust9464 leaving mine on then lol
Definitely do not do it this way.
Stupid from Tesla to put this rubbish into the nice wheel, they should deliver the plastic parts separately to put by yourself in if you really want... Without them I think the wheel and the hole car looks way better (but until now I had no chance to see any new Model 3 Perf. - so I need to have a look at a real car by myself) Free red calipers! 😊😊
Downside is the brake / wheel center with this "gearwheel" (specially on the front axle) I don't know why Tesla have this ugly axles, every other car looks better at this point.
Please don't set the wheels on the concrete floor that way.. and then complain about the possible scratches later will you...?
The tires protrude well beyond the wheels - no worries
@@mmark300 ummm no.
@@choontax880 No? Are you saying you don't believe me? How would you even know?
@@mmark300 whatever dude. If you think a thin line of protruding tire on the outer edge of the wheel would protect the surface of the entire wheel on an uneven concrete floor like that. Do whatever the hell you want.
@@choontax880 I didn't have to think that the tire would protect the wheel because the tire DID protect the wheel. But please continue to pretend to know more about what I did without actually being there.
Not a good video. Find a better video. I took mine off easily using a plastic tool. Keep wheel on. 30 to 60 seconds per cap. No scratches left, but just clean off the marks left from the plastic. Easier if you rotate the wheel as you go, so that what you are taking off is higher and easier to see and get leverage.
Looks better with them on 🤷♂️
