This is probably the best guide I have seen for this series. I really hope future disgaeas explain how to do the endgame better because even as a semi veteran to disgaea (I played the original 4 as a kid and played all of 5 and beat vaal) its really confusing and some of the stuff you have to do to make the game easier is very obscure. Like farming statiscions, item duping, secret item level ect its so much. Love your content dude take my sub. Also I know you didn't mention this but you should of said that humans in most cases are always better than monsters due to scaling.
Hey man. Great work as always. Just thought I'd correct some things: *You can only get the next tier weapon from the item god, PROVIDED that you are in the LoC - this won't work outside LoC. *You CAN max an item's stats (2.1 mil each) by repeatedly killing an item boss, but ONLY the item god. This won't work for generals and kings. This is why Invincible armor is technically stronger than the Trap, because of the 2 extra mv and more jump. However the trade off is that the Trap only requires 70 gencies to max, whereas the Invincible armor requires a whopping 250 gencies to max. But if you don't care about the extra mv and jump, the Trap is the way to go. Thanks again for the great content mate. Looking forward to the next one :)
A few tips of my own... > Map 9-4 (1 star) is a great map for early postgame leveling (before you reach Ordeals 4). Giant Desco can wipe the map easily. Humanoids can also levelup here by employing certain magichange skills (like a giant Orc, or a Rifle Demon). Said skill can take out a line of enemies each turn (if you're far enough from the back line of enemies, they won't move either, so can be killed on the next turn). Or use the Medic's unique skill so you can simply act twice. > Ordeals 3 can apparently be cleared with a single Shaman (a high level one with a lot of SP would make sense). It has a unique skill which attempts to set every ailment on every enemy on the entire map. So eventually, everything will die to Poison. She can use the skill from the base panel (only thing you really have to do is kill or toss away the slimes on the starting platform). > Ordeals 4 can be cleared with Giant Big Bang. Make a giant Nekomata, then magichange it with your grinder (think the Nekomata has to be in a certain evil symbol for this to be possible). The annoying thing is getting Big Bang on all your members (basically, Chara World shenanigans....). > 3 lv300 Testaments will make leveling on Land of Carnage Ordeals 4 a breeze (even a lv1 unit will easily be strong enough). If you have a lv3000'ish squad, leveling the Testament won't be hard either. > I use map 8-1 as my Duping Map. You can use an Android with Land Decimator to instantly finish the map (enemies are either killed, or left at 1 HP where they self destruct). > Speaking of duping, the Android has an evility that reduces stats (or is it aptitude?) by 50%. Put it on your Bio-Suits to make duping uber stat items easier. And DON'T attempt to dupe in the Land of Carnage (Bio-suits get the massive land of carnage stat boosts when it uses Run Wild there). > Passing a bunch of movement bills on high level shoes like Accelerator, or Barefoot X, then mass duping it, will let your whole squad traverse entire maps at once. Insanely useful for the Item World, and the X-Dimension. > To fill the bonus guage, have a high level Thief Create a Box. Then have a bunch of low level characters (with Bows, and in the Heart Cannon evil symbol), all attack the box. Rinse and repeat for a few turns. Probably best to have someone lift one enemy, and wipe out the rest. >> This trick stops working in Disgaea 5 and onward (there are other ways that work there). But works in Disgaea Dimension 2 and earlier games. > Apparently the Kunoichi is FRICKING BUSTED! She has a unique skill that can give Evasion+99%, for 3 turns! She can set this onto 9 units, including herself. This makes Baal much easier (and makes the 5x Baal rematches actually possible too). > On the original Disgaea 4 release on PS3, we had to use the Trick Move evility (from the SlumberCat class) to get +99% evasion, so we could run circles around Baal while they miss all the time. Trick Move still works perfectly fine in Disgaea4+ Complete, but now you don't actually need the evility. >> Technically your SPD stat still has to be somewhat comparable to the enemies HIT stat. And if the enemy attacks from behind, they'll have a higher then 1% chance to hit. So keep that in mind. >> The whole 99% evasion buff to make Baal useless got so infamous that all future versions of Baal in later games just gave him perfect hit rate at all times xD > Man I forgot the unmitigated hell I had to go through to view all the weapon skills (back on PS3). The Old Combat Master that sells the tier8 skills pretty much NEVER showed up for me (I had to capture user pirates which had units that had 300% aptitudes and all skills learned to actually do this back in the day). And Pringer X took a LOT of persuading to use it's first skill.
Looking back, I can't believe I somehow convinced myself to do all of this twice. Once on the original PS3 version and once more on the PSVita version. Like with "Disgaea 3", there are actually a lot of mechanical differences and mildly different trophy requirements, though the general process is the same. Really, the biggest notable difference is the duping process. See, the original "Disgaea 4" on PS3 didn't have unique class skills, those were added in the re-release. So the method using the Battle Suit wasn't a thing yet. Instead, there was a glitch you had to do where when an item is returned to you (either from the item world or from reverse-pirating) and both your inventory and storage were completely full, it'd get sent to the shop temporarily for you to buy back. From there, if you bought said item through the "try-on" option, you'd dupe it. Your equipped character got one copy with the copy in the shop still being there, and you could keep doing this until you exited out of the shop. Granted, this method was risky since that item would eventually disappear from the shop. And when it came to duping ultimate equipment, you usually had 1 chance to actually do the set up to dupe them. At that point, you couldn't dive into the item world or reverse-pirate with them anymore, you already hit the caps for both just getting it that strong. So you better buy a ton of copies cause you won't get another chance to with that same one. Not to mention the annoyance of filling up your entire storage with junk to reach the cap. Oh, and this glitch was patched out so you had to play the game unpatched, meaning no access to DLC or the like.
Its been years since I played the game but I think the reasoning over the armor over traps is because if you captured a LoC enemy or magichanged you'd be at max base stats, also you can hit the movement limit with them as opposed to using barefoot X and spending a lifetime to make a good one.
On units Gig is generally better than Desco for the initial push to Mt. Ordeal, since Gig has the diamond formation attack while giant, for faster clears. He also transitions more gracefully into momentum afterwards, since his magichange is ALSO fantastic as what you use to actually kill bosses, both because of Gig's Evility, and Demon Blast being zero investment on the humanoid using it, and stupendously strong single target damage. Pirohiko + Gig is an absurdly strong core, since Unlosing Mode and Gig's Magichange buffs stack, and push their raw single target performance into the stratosphere. Also, if you have access to online play, use the Netherbattle Tournament. You can just Magichange Gig/Desco onto whatever high level humanoid unit is in the list that you're using, and the massive amounts of exp from the tournament kills sticks to your character. If you use the unlock code at the start, you can legit have a level 2-300 Gig in under an hour of a fresh file, use him to bulldoze the rest of the story, then blitz the postgame until Mt. Ordeal, then grind even faster there.
I got to Mt. Ordeal 4 finally, and i found using Gaint Desco magichange with Rune Dimension acts like Desco's Fusion Yog, only you can use the Nurse not only for syringe blast, but it also has an ability that resets your turn, letting you Act again with [Lets Go! Chachacha] letting you clear MtO4 in a single turn with 1 unit using the super Magichange sword by finishing the last 2 monsters with Dark Secrecy. it doesnt HAVE to be desco, just a really strong monster with Magichange:Sword. throw out Plenair and Gig with [Gig Injector] for map boosts for allies and your dropping everything in 1 turn
Also, 1-1 is the best early game grind spot. I usually see ppl talk about grind spots youd need to get to 100 at minimum to get past, but never the best 50< grind spots
I merged the Nekos and 1 other monster on regular 5-2 resulting in a lv 1000 neko, which I captured. After some resets it gave me the PPS Btw use stronger enemy 20
Say, after the main games do you plan on covering the disgaea-likes? I'd love to see a phantom brave guide especially since there is a new one coming next year
I would love to get into the other IPs, but I don’t know how long it’ll take since I’d like to finish guides for all the Disgaeas first. the temptation to do Phantom Brave early to beat the release next year is strong though.
