Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:
    0:00 Introduction
    1. 0:44 Is it right or wrong to refute other pastors who publicly teach false teachings?
    2. 7:24 I was wondering if you could talk about and help me understand Mark 16: 17-18 (specifically verse 18). I haven’t seen those two signs played out...perhaps it could be metaphorical?
    3. 13:58 How should we interpret 2 Corinthians 12:2? Are there “levels” in Heaven? And does it have anything at all to do with the phrase “seventh heaven”?
    4. 17:55 Are Christians who believe that Genesis 1-11 is allegorical (unintentionally or not) denying the divinity and validity of Christ, considering what Jesus said in John 5: 44-47?
    5. 23:33 What are the biblical principles, if any, about keeping our bodies physically healthy, and to what extent? (Think smoking, piercings, or eating/exercise habits)
    6. 28:29 How do you respond to Matthew 16: 28?
    7. 32:09 Do Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 speak about Satan?
    8. 33:46 Can you explain what Lordship Salvation is, please?
    9. 35:54 How would you react if someone said that all truth is subjective and that there is no concept of truth, except what "works for you"?
    10. 37:50 When you first accept Jesus into your life, is that when you become "born again" and baptized with the Holy Spirit? Or are they two different things?
    11. 40:24 My bible teacher said my family is saved because I believe in Jesus, citing Acts 16: 31. I think she misused scripture. If so, how do I address the issue? Does forgiving mean trusting her again?
    12. 45:33 Is it a salvation issue if someone rejects the idea of Jesus being one and the same with God?
    13. 46:56 Are unbelievers forgiven to some degree? I'm looking at Luke 23: 34
    14. 50:40 My daughter was baptized in 2018, and came out as bisexual in 2019. Any thoughts on how to talk to her about this? I’ve tried!
    15. 53:08 What do you think about the Noahide Laws? I’ve been told that if they’re enacted, Christians would be found guilty of “idolatry” and executed. Should we be worried?
    16. 54:26 I've seen your Mormonism series and have met with Mormons quite often, and I am wondering, what might be a good approach to addressing their belief in "sons and daughters of God" and pre-mortal existence?
    17. 55:30 What are the "seven spirits of God"?
    18. 56:38 My in-laws are WOF leaders and church owners, and it’s a constant "name it and claim it" around them. Should we have a doctrine "sit down," or just ignore? Its tough.
    19. 59:02 Should Christians drink alcoholic wine at the commemoration of the Lord's Supper? And must we use unleavened bread?
    20. 1:00:57 If I live in habitual sin from addiction, and I really want to overcome it but I keep backsliding, am I still saved, or am I using it as a license to sin? If I don’t stop before I die, what happens?

Wow really great. Love that you mentioned Judas because I’ve also compared his fate to Peter and wondered if he could’ve been saved. I know how hard it is to stop a substance just physically. I was on fentanyl and Percocet for two years with chronic pain before I was saved. I was in despair and wanted to die. I surrendered to Jesus, prayed a lot and had others praying for me, and was able to stop both almost cold turkey (within a week) with no withdrawal symptoms. I still have health problems and they have often lead to despair, but I constantly immerse myself in scripture and prayer, focusing all aspects of life on Christ and living my faith. I do not take pain medication unless I have surgery but have no problems the several times I do. I also seek help from doctors because I know God works through them. It’s easy to think I just want to be with Christ but I know He will be my refuge now too. I pray you can find your way past and through this (the person asking the question). I remind myself I am a new creation and the old me has been redeemed. God bless and keep you.

Regarding question 9, as someone who's been into the new age stuff in the past, and currently wholly values scientific empiricism while being a religious studies enthusiast, I've concluded that the most dangerous belief systems are the ones that don't have a central concept that centers around "humbling yourself to truths that you personally don't like." I've noticed that new age beliefs do this in particular.

Hi Mike, in regards to question 8 about defining lordship salvation I think you've not seen the extent to which the doctrine has played out in some popular Christian circles, to the point of being a disguised form of works salvation. There are those that read James 2, "faith without works is dead" and interpret that to mean you must gain assurance of salvation by your works. I've heard many sermons to that point, and there was even a hint of that in your answer to question 20 in this video about addiction. Take that theology and back up a bit to the overall implication. Suppose someone (perhaps the person asking q20) has a false, non saving faith. Can a false faith be made real by adding works or more zeal for holiness to it? The obvious biblical answer is no! The only thing that can make false faith real is real faith. In the four soils the good soil is the one who hears the word and "understands it", that is the one who bears much fruit. Not, notice, one who appropriately commits and strives with human effort. That is the major flaw with lordship salvation theology, that those who think they have a false faith are told they need to try harder, rather than reexamine the foundation of their faith from which fruits come forth. If you're not sure of your salvation then you have no assurance that your fruit is even good to begin with. Your righteousness that you hope is evidence of salvation may still be filthy rags in God's eyes. That is why assurance of salvation must come first, not after personal holiness and good works. Someone struggling with addiction and undesired sins needs to understand Romans 3-4 and God's righteousness being what they lean on for salvation BEFORE making effort to become useful vessels for good works here on earth.

    Hey Mike,
1:03:25 as a former drug addict user who was a daily user for about 10 years I would like to tell this young man that a major thing that he needs to realize, the thing that really helped me get on my road to recovery is to realize what the Bible says about who he is as a believer. The Scripture says that he is free indeed. The Scripture says that he is no longer in darkness but in light. The Scripture says three times in Romans six that he is dead and free from sin. The Scripture says that he used to be a slave to sin but he is now a slave to God. The Scripture says that he is crucified with Christ and sin no longer has any power over him. The Scripture says that he is free to sin no more. Hearing these truths helped me to realize the power God had given me. I finally came to the place where I believed that I was an Overcomer because I was in Christ and free from sin. Unfortunately most churches don’t teach this.

Hi Mike, one thing that once troubled me concerning the transfiguration account is that it never described Jesus "coming in his kingdom". However, there is actually another transfiguration account that is often overlooked. Peter himself mentions this:
For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST IN POWER, but we were EYEWITNESSES of his majesty. He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. When I smoked marijuana, I never had night-time seizures (lifetime epileptic), didn't have to risk bodily damage from any of the prescribed treatments, and I cooperated with my coworkers, friends, and family much better. This was huge since I've always struggled with autism spectrum disorder. There are certainly people who abuse the substance, but we severely lack research into how it can impact people's lives and the quality of it.

The past few days I've been seriously considering whether I'm on the spectrum, I've dealt with pretty severe anxiety and depression most of my life, and recently physical issues, and ever since I started believing in Christ a few years ago I've really wondered about weed because I feel like I'm so much more of a normal, functional person when I'm high. Sometimes I feel utterly crippled by my mental issues. I feel concern and doubt about taking prescribed treatments (as you call them) though... I've taken a few and haven't had good results. But everyone (myself included even) points out the verses mentioning drunkenness and being sober-minded etc etc and it makes me think it *must* be wrong to use weed and I'm just being deceived thinking it could possibly be okay...but I also don't understand the difference between weed and other mostly accepted medications (i.e. psychotropics) or even something like caffeine.
The answer seems so clear to pretty much everyone and yet for me it's this huge question... I don't know if I'm autistic, stupid, naive, or deceiving myself. Or I actually have a freaking point.
Andddd meanwhile I'm just suffering a ton. :/

I think you and I would agree that the repentance that is necessary for salvation is something that goes hand-in-hand with placing one’s trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ..
The Greek word μετάνοια (metanoia) is translated ‘repentance’, and its verbal cognate μετανοέω (metanoeo) is translated ‘repent’. The simple meaning is “change of mind”, but its meaning connotes “conversion” and “reformation”.
What is being reformed or “changed” about one’s mind when they place their trust on Christ? It is not their propensity for sin. Their _attitude_ towards sin might change, but that is not guaranteed to immediately occur. What changes is they no longer have an attitude of _unbelief_ towards the gospel, and are no longer trusting in idols (whether pagan gods or the dead works of the law).

Brother Mike it has been a refreshing blessing to hear a pastor focused more on helping The Bride of CHRIST get ready for The Coming of our BRIDEGROOM JESUS CHRIST than just focused on the announcement of HIS coming. If we are just focused on the announcement than we are not getting ready! If we only keep focusing on the alarm clock going off then we will never get up to get ready for the event that is coming. We hear the alarm then we wake up and get up and get ready! The Wise virgins were prepared before the alarm with all the things to get ready then when the alarm went off they got up and got ready to meet The BRIDEGROOM. We can't get stuck in verse Matthew 24:6, but we have to make sure we are PRE-pared with the oil to get ready. The cry - prophetic word is not the focus here, but making sure we are ready for HIM!!

With respect to the baptism in the Holy Spirit, the three most direct resolutions to this (unfortunate, unfortunate that it needs to be asked) question are probably:
    1) the repeating instances of
    Matt 3:11
    Mark 1:8
    Luke 3:16
    John 1:33
    and 2)
    Acts 19:1-7
    and 3)
    Acts 5:18
That it’s still a question whether the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a miracle distinct from the miracle of salvation shows that much (most) of the church is still subject to basic ignorance and deception. Clearly, it’s a distinct experience, and to be followed by a ‘lifestyle’ of be being filled.
BTW, why is that so many Chistians, and so many teachers, accept the miracle of salvation (if even regarded consciously as a miracle, which it most certainly is a miracle), but reject most all, or even all other miracles? Wake up, folks-there is one misprint in your Bible: the period at the end of Acts 28:31
Let us stop looking for ways to say ‘no’ to the full gospel; and it’s not charismatic vs non-it’s simply continuing with the model that Jesus provided/provides, as demonstrated by the original disciples. It’s no more complicated than that.

At salvation, your cup has water. At baptism of the Holy Spirit, your cup is full and running over, like it was submerged and brought back up full, if that makes sense. It has nothing to do with physical water baptism, and it doesn't make you any more saved than a newborn Christian. It gives you power in your own life.

I know many professing Christians who casually drink and smoke around other Christians who are offended by such. Such people, regardless of whether these choices are sinful before God or actual liberties (God knows) are still sinning for they are acting selfishly and putting their own selfish desires as more valuable to them then the convictions/interests of the brethren.

@1:00:57 I believe the Bible teaches us that once we are genuinely saved we are always saved. It is the gift of God (Eph. 2:8) and His gifts and calling are irrevocable (Rom. 11:29). We are born of God and become a child of God, and that can never be undone (Jn. 1:13). So why all the warnings and verses that apparently indicate the possibility of some kind of loss? That has to do with reward and punishment during the millenial kingdom age. It refers to gain or loss, recognition or discipline assigned to all believers by the Lord at the judgment seat of Christ (2. Cor. 5:10) as their portion during the kingdom age, based on their living and works. "“Behold, I am coming soon, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to what he has done." For the person who asked question question 11 at 40:44, about their family being saved by their belief, the more relevant passage can be found in 1 Corinthians 7:10-16 especially verse 14 which includes spouse and children. It doesn't usually happen in an instant, but one person's faith applied sooner or later affects those around them.
Regarding whether you should trust your bible teacher again, I would say yes as long as they are willing to reason with you. We all misunderstand scripture at one time or another. It doesn't mean we should abandon trusting them if on one biblical concept we disagree. We should instead understand that "iron sharpens iron" (Proverbs 27:17) in these moments, be like the Bereans in Acts 17:10-11 and search the scriptures daily to see if these things are so. (Note the search doesn't usually find the answer in a day. On some subjects it can take months, even years, to get to the truth in the word through daily study) Lastly, if you still find your "teacher" in error, don't just abandon her, apply Galatians 6:1 and Matthew 18. This is how the body of Christ learns and grows. Love is patient.
That said, we must test every spirit and be weary of false prophets. I think the main thing to look for is whether they preach Christ crucified for our sins and willing to accept the full counsel of God, every word that has proceeded from the mouth of God as preserved in scripture. If they don't humble themselves and receive correction from God's word and/or they disagree with some verses of the bible as not true anymore, like my church growing up that downplayed Paul's writings as less authoritative and used that as an excuse to permit sin; then it is time to "stop trusting them" . Jesus chose Paul as an apostle and even Peter acknowledged Paul's authority (though admitting some of his teachings were hard to understand...along with many other scriptures). As it turns out, God used Paul's writings to get me to trust the Gospel and the Bible again. Philippians 4:4-9
God bless you all in your drawing close to the Lord through his word. I pray this helps. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
PS- I think I somewhat disagree with Mike on this question. Yet, as a perfect example of the questioner asking whether their forgiveness should include trusting their teacher again, I still trust and respect Mike immensely because he does seek the truth daily in scripture and shows he is willing to be changed or persuaded by it. Thank you Mike!

Mike, as someone who went from an atheist/agnostic view point raised in the church, to a Holy Spirit filled believer when I gave my life to Christ almost 14 years ago who knows God can still heal and move and people still speak in tongues, and all the things for then are for now, I have been listening to you Alisa Childers, and Melissa Dougherty, and I love apologetics and I seek truth but sometimes I worry that we get so technical that we won't allow God to move and it concerns me. I am a seeker of truth and I do not want false spirits I do not want false doctrine so I really appreciate and cherish what you guys do but I still want us to talk about Holy Spirit and how He still does move and how it's very real when people do get healed but I also really appreciate people telling the truth about it's not our faith that heals it's the spirit of God that heals we don't have some inherent power on our own it's by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I've seen so many people have their faith damaged and turn away from God completely because of people saying well you just didn't have enough faith and they lose their child. Clearly we all know that that's not the case, but us calling out to the father in faith does move God's heart. not showing scripture when that father came to Jesus and their child was already dead. but it doesn't mean that because somebody's child passes that they have less Faith or their faith is why their child did not stay alive that would be putting the power in their hands and in their face rather than in the power of the spirit of God and trust in God.
I don't know how to not segregate things because Holy Spirit is very much in scripture and I feel like doctrine theology sometimes tries to push Holy Spirit out but He's there and He is part of the Trinity and I really appreciate that you three do not push Him out but I also wish we would talk more about the power of the Holy Spirit in Him moving in the present day because it's very real

I recently heard an interpretation of the three levels of heaven that defined the 1st and 3rd levels as the Earth's atmosphere and God's dwelling place respectively, like Mike described, but the 2nd level was defined as the spiritual realm parallel to the physical in which the powers of darkness exist and influence our world. I think the idea was derived from this verse from Ephesians:
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."

I watched a sermon a while ago by Derek Prince titled "Casting Down Strongholds". It talked about the 3 layers of heaven and spiritual war fare. It's great to hear different interpretations and pray about how to understand/apply them. That being said, you should check out if you think you will benefit from it.

It makes sense. I believe the 2nd heaven is above the atmosphere, i.e. the physical cosmos, but it has "behind it" the realm of the powers of darknesss like you mentioned. Similarly, the 1st heaven is physical, but it has behind it the operation of those same spirits of wickedness as in Eph. 2:2 "....according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of THE AIR, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience:
" So the 1st and 2nd heaven would be physical but with a spiritual realm, a reality behind them. Then the 3rd heaven is where God dwells and where Christ is seated.
Interestingly, our position as believers is having been "made alive and raised up with Christ and seated with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus." (Eph. 2:6). That is on the objective side, in position. Yet on the subjective side, in our condition, we have to experience Christ and His cross in order to have a living and life that are actually seated with Him in the heavenlies in Christ.

Pastor Mike. I have a deleima. I am a babe in Christ and have been struggling to get my feet grounded in what I hold true about God's word. My husband and I have gone to a Calvanistic church because we saw the lack of good biblical teaching in our totally Arminion church but have recently gone back to our Assembly of God church. My ? IS SOME OF MY FAVOROTE Preachers are Calvinists but do you know any Arminian preachers that are solid without so much emotionalism.

I personally find that if you publicly refute a pastors theology, and preach Paul message; than you are expect to live a life of Paul to do so. Jesus loves all churches that is for him and quite often preached against the Pharisee, there is no perfect church as you can see all over the New Testament. The love has grown cold for the love of God's fellow believers. Love you all

@23:33 In addition to biblical principles to follow (the word), we should ask the Lord in His presence concerning these things. The Lord can guide us and give us a sense of peace or no peace about these issues. "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, theses are sons of God." Rom. 8:14.

Repentance is to change your mind. God repented MANY times in the Old Testament. Did HE sin? NO, it is NOT an "expression of faith".. If you read 1 & 2 Peter, *you'd also see that NO Scripture is open to your own interpretation*.

I agree with you (I’m a young earth creationist). But just to clarify, Pastor Mike wasn’t questioning the authenticity of the Genesis account as inspired by the Holy Spirit, but just questioning what Genesis intended to communicate (though I think it’s pretty clear).

It flabbergasts me anyone can question the account of creation as you say ALL scripture is God breathed. Jesus referred to events in Genesis 1-11 as being truth so I don’t understand how people question it.

    • @daviddufty9759
      @daviddufty9759 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I don't think Mike is questioning the authenticity of Genesis.
In Psalm 119:136, the Psalmist says, "Streams of tears flow from my eyes,
for your law is not obeyed." I don't know anyone who believes that the Psalmist cried so much that a literal stream / river formed from the amount of tears that they cried (that would be a miraculous number of tears). Most of us accept that the Psalms are hymns of Israel and are written as poetry. Based on the genre, we accept hyperbole and do not read the words literally.
In Psalm 22, it says, "But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by everyone, despised by the people." The author (David - though this is a messianic psalm, so it could be from Jesus' perspective), is not literally "a worm and not a man" - again we know not to take these words literally, based on the genre.
When we come to the gospels, we are reading historical narrative; the life, death, resurrection, ascension, etc. documented in the gospels and the book of Acts is intended to be read as a literal, historical claim of what happened.
When we come to the start of Genesis, there is debate about the genre in which Moses was writing. Some people believe he is giving a literal, historical account. Others have pointed to features of the text (particularly its repetitive form) and argue that this is a song or some other form of literature which is not so literal.
So for instance, Moses says the earth is formless and empty than we have 3 days dealing with giving form to that which was formless and 3 days that deal with filling that which was empty:
      Formless->Form Empty->Filled
Light Day 1: Separate light & darkness Day 4: Fill light and darkness (create sun, moon and stars)
Sky & Ocean Day 2: Separate sea from clouds in sky Day 5: Fill sea and sky (create sea creatures and birds)
Land Day 3 a: Separate land from sea Day 6a: Fill land with animals
Day 3 b: Give form to land through trees Day 6b: Fill land with people
Day 7: God rests from creation.
Each day also begins with a command from God, "And God said ..."
Each day has a statement after the command that what God had commanded was done.
Each day (with the exception of day 2) has the statement "And God saw that it was good" (Days 3 and 6 have the statement twice, making this statement repeated 7 times in the passage).
Each day ends with "And there was evening and morning, that was the Nth day"
This is beautifully written - and regardless of whether the text is literal or figurative, it is a highly structured piece of writing. Just wanted to weigh in, because I know many people who take the bible very seriously who question whether this text is literal - not because they don't believe the bible is true, but because they feel Moses has left hints in how he wrote this text that maybe it is more akin to the genre of the Psalms, then it is to the later sections of Genesis and the other historical narratives in the bible. We may be wrong, but both sides of this debate can be gracious and understanding to each other. :-)
