Been using the DBD 16mm for most of 2023, which I LOVE… but did snag a Ruby for the same reasons you mentioned here. I’m most looking forward to the extra spin as I like hard serving and 3rds where topspin dropping over the net or on approaching feet is my goal
I love it and am thankful to have FINALLY found my paddle (6 year player here, have tried pretty much every brand out there...) I bought it used from a FB page as it's sold out at 6.0, so i'm glad it was broken in a tiny bit. How long do you think it will last? Am banking on that Kevlar hopefully carrying me through the next 4-6 months playing 4-5 times a week..
I purchased one a few days ago. Delivery is scheduled 12/12/23. I had been considering the Double Black Diamond but the Ruby won me over. I prefer playing singles and the added, power - plus even better spin - without impacting control too much were major factors in my decision! Finally, I’m hoping Kevlar will be more durable when compared to Carbon fiber. 🙏🏾
Good job Jordan. Really enjoy your reviews. Think about introducing yourself at the beginning of each video. People will get to know you and place a name to your face and play. Thanks for your review.
I just ordered mine...i have been using DBD since Feb and love it..i tried the gear box pro elongated but it had too much power for me...this will be interesting for me since i like 14mm but the Ruby is 16...i like the feel of a 14 but will see how the 16 translates for me...great review
Awesome review! Thanks for the code, looking forward to trying it out. My old paddle VP has given me nasty tennis elbow. Hoping this softness keeps it in check.
I’ve watched this review several times. I would love to see a 6 month update on this paddle. I own this myself, I do worry about deterioration 2 months in and starting to think about my next paddle.
Great review as always! A question about the lead tape. Since the Ruby has a great sweet spot and twist weight, what benefit and different feel did you get by adding the tape at 4&8? Thanks.
How do you clean a kevlar surface? I feel like using the erasers that are used for carbon fiber paddles probably isn't a good idea for the Ruby, right?
The SixZero page listing their official eraser states for the Ruby: "You can use the Six Zero Cleaning Rubber with gentle strokes or opt for a damp cloth for cleaning." .
I currently play the DBD 16mm. Love it but it does aggravate my tennis elbow a little due to some vibration. In your opinion would the Ruby be "easier" on the elbow?
@@BrionesPickleball Thanks for the reply. I do agree some of the issue is in other areas like technique, but for sure paddles make a difference. I have a Vatic Pro Flash that is great on my elbow, but I just don't like the way the paddle plays. I love the way the DBD plays but it is a little harsher on the elbow. Definitely a noticeable difference between the two.
sort of , the texture on the Ruby ,like every other no spray on grit is a Peel ply sheet vacuumed bagged over the resin or "epoxy " which when cured , you peel off the fabric and then you are left with a thin layer of the epoxy /resin that took on the shape of the peel ply fabric. If you wear through this peel ply texture layer then and only then do you get to raw Kevlar (or carbon fiber in CF paddles.)@@erinsmith8702
Thanks for your reviews and Jordan's many helpful tutorial videos. I am trying to decide between the Scorpeus, CRBN 3X Power and the Ruby. I demoed and liked the DBD, but I like the Ruby better. However, felt like my hands were quicker with DBD. thoughts on the differences between the 3 paddles would be appreciated. Thanks, JW
My friend is a rep and got one a bit earlier. I have to say the grit feels like it has already worn off. Big difference from the centre to the edges. Even my DBD after 10 months feels like it has more grit on it than his Ruby. Paddle feels good though, but very hesitant due to wearing of paddle surface.
I’ve had mine for 3+ weeks, still getting used to it, and it’s just starting to break in. Not quick at kitchen line, great spin, can play a bit more aggressive with topspin, backspin floats way to high. Great paddle, haven’t played with DBD yet.
@@BrionesPickleball that Translates to 11 grams so start from the corner and put two 3 gram pieces of lead tape on each side working up from the corner ? Wish you would so showed us the side of ur paddle haha
after you have spent some time with this Ruby, in short , how would compare this to the new GB Pro Control Elongated? and if you had to only pick one to play with which? Thanks!!! Great reviews!
Yeager prefers the Ruby over any paddle at the moment. The gearbox control Is a great paddle as well, but feels stiffer at contact and has a totally different feel. Spin and sweet spot on the Ruby is better compared to the GB. Ruby is an all court paddle, which can be great for anyone
I have a general question, when choosing between a 14mm and 16mm paddle is it as simple as 14 for power 16 for control, or is there more to it? I have been playing with a 16mm but I am curious to see how a 14mm would feel
No -- typically the 14mm is "poppier" which is the characteristic that describes velocity on deflective shots such as blocks, resets, and other shots without backswings such as flicks and maybe even roll volleys. To my knowledge, 16mm the majority appear to maintain more power due to the extra mass thrown into a ball with more backswing. The Selkirk Vanguard Power Air Invikta comes to mind as a tough to control paddle that seems to maintain its power with a thinner core. But I think your assumption about whether 16mm is typically has more control than a 14mm likely stands true.
Thanks so much for this review, it tipped me in the direction of the Ruby (instead of the DBD), just used your code to buy one! One thing I was wondering, is the bit higher swing weight of the Ruby compared to DBD at all noticeable re: hand speed at the net?
I play with a gearbox pro power elongated which has a pretty high swing weight at 121. I feel fast at the net with it but not nearly as fast as I did with my power air invikta
@@kylelogan5013 it’s the only paddle I’ve played with since. Feel like my drops are more consistent, good spin, and my game has definitely improved overall. Put hesacore grip on it love it
No, I think different reviewers may view pop a little differently. Either way, the DBD and the Ruby aren’t worlds apart when it comes to pop, as it’s mainly the surface that makes the difference.
Isn’t it totally different from the ghost in almost every way? Different shape, different surface, different core. Can you think of one similarity between the Ruby and the Ghost besides them both being pickleball paddles?
What do YOU think of this new Ruby?
Absolutely love it! I loved the DBD and I love the Ruby even more!

Depends how hard you hit the ball and what level you are (how much spin you use). It’s a great paddle!

awesome!
When you say 4 and 8, did you apply it on the flat side of the paddle towards the bottom, or did you apply the lead tape on or under the curve?
Right where the top of the grip ends, I go about 5 inches up from the top of the grip
The wear is so noticeable at 0:17 . does it maintain it's performance?
So far so good, he’s still using it today

Good review. I haven't tried and Dbd paddles. How does this Ruby play vs an Engage Pro graphite ex 6.0 ?
Both great paddles. Ruby has a bit more spin and control.
Great review as always! A question about the lead tape. Since the Ruby has a great sweet spot and twist weight, what benefit and different feel did you get by adding the tape at 4&8? Thanks.
To (almost) any paddle, you always get a larger sweet spot feeling and a more stable paddle.
For a new player still learning 1-2 would you recommend the Ruby or LUXX control air?
Ruby, or double black diamond
How do you clean a kevlar surface? I feel like using the erasers that are used for carbon fiber paddles probably isn't a good idea for the Ruby, right?
Not sure, we’ll have to look into it !
I just bought a Ruby and asked Six Zero about using the eraser. They said to use it, just be gentle.
Pretty sure JohnKew indicated just using the same rubber eraser you use for CF paddles
The SixZero page listing their official eraser states for the Ruby: "You can use the Six Zero Cleaning Rubber with gentle strokes or opt for a damp cloth for cleaning." .
Debating between the 6.0 Ruby and the Selkirk Vanguard Control Invikta… any thoughts?
Ruby…
Can you please elaborate on what you mean by an "airy" feeling?
As in you can feel the ball sink into the paddle but the feed back that you get into your arm is light and not aggressive.
☝🏻
I currently play the DBD 16mm. Love it but it does aggravate my tennis elbow a little due to some vibration. In your opinion would the Ruby be "easier" on the elbow?
Not by much. What I can say is that it’s probably not the paddle causing elbow problems.

Love it!
It’s what I currently use
th-cam.com/video/7SjsniUg0q8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=e7ilBNVgrG0VO_KY
Luxx is spray grit. Will wear off in months. Ruby is Kevlar- durable and will last much longer.

Yeager would recommend the DBD all day long. Out of the 3, it’s the most all around paddle
Really? DBD over Ruby?
@@JohnW-m7hyes, if you’re wanting hand speed. The DBD is quicker at the net because the Ruby is heavier.

How does this paddle compare to the CRBN Power 3?
You can say they are similar, but the Ruby does everything a little better
You need to try the mark pickleball kinetic! Looks exactly like the ruby would love to see how it compares
Possibly
How would this compare to the Selkirk power air invikta ?
Not comparable lol. The Selkirk is an all power paddle

Great review been using mine for one week! For the lead tape so you just added 5 grams to each bottom corner ? Or below the corner near the handle
Only added .4 ounces total.
A couple of strips starting from the corner up on each side

What thickness were you using
16mm
Comparison of pop with regards to resets vs ronbus r3? I’m hoping it’s not too different!
They are similar, the Ronbus may feel a bit more plush off the face
How many layers of Kevlar they added, you can use it as body armor. I will get one.

Is the grit still holding up on the ruby after a month or 2 playtesting it?
Deteriorating slightly faster than the DBD, but besides that, it’s holding up great
@@BrionesPickleballReally, so the Kevlar isn't holding up as well as the carbon fiber on the Double Diamond?
Even the CF deteriorates over time, but slightly slower. No paddle is invincible. This is still a top 5 paddle

Generally, yes. Thinner core, the poppier it will feel, less plush, typically less feel.
I know it's probably a bit early to ask, but have you noticed any wear of the grit/loss of spin yet?
