I LOVE this paddle. I have the DBD, BDi, and Ruby. They're all phenomenal. The BDi is insanely fast at the kitchen line. But the Ruby is the best all around paddle I've played with. Incredible spin, great control, and solid power. Not as much pop as the DBD, but that's a plus for me because it has a more plush feel and resets, dinks, and drops are easier to dial in. I agree with what you said about it feeling firm on harder shots and plush on softer shots. It's hard to explain/understand until you play with it.
100% thank you for the comment and the good vibes! I love comments like this that help others and prove that what I am saying translates to real life haha. Yeah for me the top 2 paddles from Six Zero right now are the BDi and the Ruby. They are incredible in their respective categories and are really hard to beat for the exact reasons you just mentioned :)
Translation: Plush on soft shots, firm on hard shots means inconsistent play. It’s hard to adjust to the paddle during volleys and having tight control for how it feels on different shots. The paddle is hot garbage.
I started with lead and have since taken it off just for faster hand speed which I’m enjoying a lot. Experimenting a ton lately with lead 😊 but as of now no lead or tungsten as the sweet spot is rather large and it has solid stability!
Hey man, love your paddle reviews. They’re the best. Question. I own one paddle and that’s the DBD. Absolutely love it. Im looking to expand my bag though and thought about getting the ruby. Does it play similar to the DBD? An all around good paddle? If so I’d like to look elsewhere and don’t want the same paddle as I have now if they play similar. My play style leans more towards control, resets, and fast hands at the kitchen. Any recommendations? Cheers.
My top recommendation for you is my current favorite paddle and the paddle that made me swap from the Ruby / DBD for tournament play and that's the Volair Mach 2 Forza 14mm. Super fast hands, insane spin, solid pop, and great for dinks / resets. I am in love with it.
And yes overall the Ruby is a slightly better DBD with more stock spin :) So it wouldn't be a massive difference overall. I would go Mach 2 Forza for you :) 14mm specifically.
@@stspickleballlate response by me but thank you for the comment. Do You still prefer the 14mm over the 16mm volair mach 2 in tournament play or a whole other paddle? I’m selling my Ruby and will be getting the Mach 2 or J2K :)
How is durability for the paddle? Does the white edge guard get damaged easily? Is it worth the extra 20 dollars as I am also considering the dbd 16. Also between the two which one is better for hand speed and kitchen battles? Great review! ❤
Thank you for the positive vibes and the comment! Super helpful and great questions. I do think it's 100% worth the extra $20, BUT! if you haven't seen my review for the Mark Paddles they have their Pure Hybrid paddle that feels almost exactly like a Six Zero DBD and feels fairly relative with just less spin than the Ruby for $99... Judging by your comment wondering if you should spend the extra $20 you are definitely taking money into consideration here. If I were you I would grab a Mark Pure paddle and just not look back and spend the rest of the money on lessons and a yummy lunch :)
I switched to the Ruby from the DBD 14mm. I loved the power and my ability to flick/roll of the DBD 14, but it was too poppy on dinks. Love the Ruby, however I can't swing through it fast enough to get the same roll/flick I did with the 14 mm DBD. Due to your review of the Volair Mach 2 I'm thinking it might be a good solution? I don't see the Ruby on your spreadsheet so can't really judge myself. Thank you!
Yeah I took the ruby off the spreadsheet because I played with a friends Ruby and it wasn't nearly as powerful as the original one I had received so I need to update that. 14mm M2F is going to have relative pop if not likely more pop in comparison to the DBD 14mm so if you had a hard time controlling that I would be cautious there. I think if you are looking for more pop than the ruby and want it to be lighter in the hands (assuming the heaviness of the Ruby might be slowing that motion down for you) I would probably recommend the Spartus Apollo honestly. It's less poppy than the M2F 14mm and will be able to flick/roll well for you :)
Great review! I ordered the Mark Kinetic and I’m curious how it stacks up against the Ruby at a lower price point as a Kevlar paddle. Tempted to get the Ruby!
Both are really wonderful paddles. The Mark Kinetic is just awesome for the price man. If you have that I wouldn’t run out for the Ruby as they are so similar stats wise. I love that paddle and am currently testing it.
@@stspickleball can’t wait to hear your review of the kinetic! That’s honestly what I decided as well. Figured they’d be similar in quality and vary in price like the mark pure vs the DBD.
Hi thanks for all you detailed info..how do feel about the AWL vs the Ruby?? You didn’t compare them or is there another video thanks in advance KellyB
Regardless I would just grab a Mark Pure. I have a video on it. Definitely the best paddle right now for the price and they are using the rough texture peel ply so you can have that spin now instead of waiting, not only that but its $99 after discount code.
Great question as these two are doing really well right now. I would say the Ruby has more power with the Kevlar feeling firmer on more aggressive shots like drives and hard-hitting serves. The Mach 2 Forza is better at the soft game and has a more linear feel off the face where when you're hitting drives and all the way down to dinking it doesn't change feeling wise whereas the Ruby feels firm on aggressive shots and relatively soft on dinks and drops. The Mach 2 Forza definitely edges it out for control and just a touch in spin, but the Ruby wins in power. I would get a Mach 2 Forza if I wanted a linear paddle that is control oriented in design and if I wanted the #1 spinning paddle in the space, and I would get the Ruby if I want some new tech that allows aggressive shots on drives with the more plush feel on drops and dinks. Really can't go wrong with either. I would say likely more people are going to enjoy the Mach 2 Forza over the Ruby.
I purchased the Forza Mach 1 thanks to your recommendation a while back, and I love it. I have the Ruby coming as well. How do they compare with each other? Thanks
Forza will have more pop, a touch less spin, and about relative power. My favorite right now is the Honolulu J2K though and the Spartus Apollo. Just can’t beat them especially for the price.
I would say if you value spin and pop/power I would go with the mach 1 forza, and if you value something that just does everything incredibly well but doesn't excel at any one thing I would get the DBD. Personally I love a nice spinny paddle and they are really relative at the end of the day so I would personally recommend the mach 1 forza :)
Great review. I bought the Hudef viva pro gen 2 based on your review. I like it overall but as warned the power can be a little too much and I’m hitting long sometimes. I think I realize I need more of a control paddle but with some power. This one sounds ideal. Do you think it is a good pick going from the viva pro gen2?
I’d skip the Ruby right now we are finding out it has some durability issues potentially from a lot of users in the comments etc. doing some testing on my end right now. I would highly recommend the Mark Pure or the BALLR Heat for your position right now. Check out my videos on those and choose one! They both are exactly what you’re looking for but cheaper than the Ruby.
Any details on the core? i.e. cell wall thickness and diameter? Would love have one with a Aramid/Kevlar core. DuPont is the best material maker of Kevlar, hoping 6.0 used high quality honeycomb as well.
Hey Kim! So what I can say is that Six Zero is known for the most durable cores in Pickleball. Dale at Six Zero has tested all of his paddles on a machine that literally slams the paddle into a ball over 5,000 (way more closer to 10,000) and in the same exact spot and harder than you would normally hit a pickleball and there is zero signs of delamination/core crushing to speak of. It is a polypropylene honeycomb core. I do agree a kevlar core could be interesting :)
Crazy story, so my Ruby was the first confirmed paddle from the company that had delaminated. Replacement is on the way but I had an in depth conversation with the owner. They have incredible customer service which makes my love for 6.0 even stronger
Diadem 18k Power Pro? If that's what you are referring to the Power Pro only lacks in the soft game. The Original 18k (Standard) has a really solid soft game. The Power Pro actually has really good spin, top tier power, top tier pop, a smaller sweet spot, and is stiffer off the face so the soft game and resets are a bit harder with that one. I think the Ruby edges it out but again only marginally and mainly just in resets and dinking. Don't feel like you're missing something incredible here they are both really great paddles and if you love what you have enjoy it!! :)
It has a better sweet spot, and more spin. I’d say on drives it feels honestly very similar. I kind of like the shape of the Forza a touch better personally I feel like it cuts through the air easier for drives and serves. But the Ruby has a better soft game and is better for resets due to the way Kevlar feels on softer shots. If you have any other specific questions just let me know!
I do have another question lmao. For the Mach 1 forza have you noticed any reduction in spin or loss of grittiness on the paddle face? I’ve read other comments about the ruby becoming smooth rather quickly
Ruby does seem to be having a lot of feedback about that although the one I got seems pretty solid.. although I am a reviewer so I’m constantly rotating paddles. Bummer on the Ruby. The Mach 1 Forza I’ve used more than any other paddle and I’ve noticed zero loss of spin. Or extremely minimal. I’d say the same about the BALLR Heat too as it’s utilizing the same materials 😊
Mr.John himself! Thanks man. It’s a solid ass paddle. Seeing a lot of comments talking about loss of spin and the texture wearing down within a month. I waited to do the review so I can report about the new material and haven’t seen in testing much drop off but I’m sure like you I’m always rotating paddles to keep my feel for differences accurate and to try new things. Any input on this from your end?
@@stspickleball yeah, I’ve heard the same, but both of my paddles are holding up just fine. I haven’t re-run the spin tests, but I’ve been playing with the ruby as my primary and I haven’t noticed any abnormal spin drop off. If I had to guess I’d say it’s lost the same or slightly less than your typical raw carbon fiber paddle.
Thank you for the reply John :) this has been my experience as well. I guess I could say that when I rub my hand on the face now it does feel a touch less rough than originally, but I haven't noticed any real change spin wise.
I missed out on the Ruby again yesterday but I just ordered the Mark Krypton Elongated (soon to be renamed the Kinetic E), any opinions or thoughts on the the Krypton?
I kind of stumbled into finding the Krypton. I googled Mark Pickleball elongated and a purchase link came up so I ordered it. The strange thing is that the Kryton does not appear on the Mark website if you go directly into the website. Good thing is I used a 10% discount code. It cost around $135. In my book it's a great deal for a Kevlar paddle. Will be using for the first time tomorrow.
I'm wondering how long the spin will last? I have witnessed & seen a couple lose the spin pretty fast. I'm not sure if it was because me & my firiend got the very first batch of the initial production run? 🤔
Will you do reviews for Franklin FS Tour and Head Radical Raw for these big brand compared with those specialized Pickleball paddle’s brands? Always thanks for all paddle’s reviews
Potentially! The high swing weight of the new Franklins is a deterrent for many so it's not particularly at the top of my list but if I get around to it I will! I have some GRUVN paddles and some Kevlar paddles at the top of my list right now. If you haven't checked out my Mark Pickleball Paddle review check that out. Easily the best paddles in the space for $99 right now. Their Pure paddle feels almost exactly like the Six Zero DBD
Tbh head and Franklin didn’t make any good paddles since now. That’s why I am very curious about their new paddles. I did watch Mark paddle from your review. I bought my control paddle Hudef VivaPro Gen 2 based on your reviews, also Alpha Zero gravity for power play. Volair Mach 1 Forza probably my next paddle when Hudef is dead. BTW Friday paddle maybe good paddles for my friends to kick into Pickleball society who they are never play. I can’t wait to watch your future videos!!! See Ya ASAP…
You didn’t notice any drop off in spin? I got mine on release and within a month it lost significant spin. Others have reported on it too. I really loved the paddle and was sorely disappointed when that happened.
I haven’t and in testing it was very minor 50rpm over 2 months. I have been rotating paddles though so it is possible I haven’t put it through the wringer as much as you did. I’ll try and beat it up some more and report back soon. I’m really sorry to hear that 😩 that would be worse than spray on grit if that’s the case.
Also how are you testing your spin just mainly based on feel? I did notice the center of the face doesn’t feel quite as rough and figured the spin might be lower but it didn’t change much when I actually measured it. I’ll rip some drives and really lay into some drill sessions over the next couple weeks and see what happens 😊
Is it safe to clean it with a carbon paddle eraser? Or does that damage the carbon fiber, does it even get parts of the ball stuck in it to begin with?
Are you going to do a review on the Hurache X - Control? This would be a great paddle to compare to the Ruby. It has a three layer surface with carbon fiber and a layer of fiberglass sandwiched in the middle. It seems to have similar playing characteristics, of the Ruby, based off reviews I've seen on it.
Well I will say the new Six Zero bag is my favorite bag by far and holds more paddles than any bag I’ve used yet 😂 (discount code STSPICKLEBALL helps too) 🤣 but yeah no for real paddle collecting is a legit thing and then if you’re like me and you have a closet full of paddles you never settle on one paddle cause you love things about a lot of different ones 😂
Wow thanks man! I’m curious what do you think it is about my reviews that makes them the best and as a viewer what could I also improve for you? I’m looking into it! If it seems like it has enough of a reason to shed light on I totally will! I have a few GRUVN paddles and the new Hurache X in the pipeline right now 😊
@@stspickleball For me personally, it's the vibe of your videos, and most importantly the comparison of the specs with other paddles is what's really helpful. I'm looking forward to the Hurache review! I really like the Ace Club. Interested to see what your thoughts are.
Thanks man I appreciate that a lot for sure. Great feedback and super helpful. So far the Hurache is not my favorite paddle. I’m gonna give it a solid go again and again and see but I’m thinking my review will be neutral to negative given the specs I’m measuring 😂
@@stspickleball Thank you, brother, I was gonna ask you about the Hurache, but wasn't sure if I should wait for the video. Have you heard of Nexus Shroud Phaze 1? I spoke with the owner on the phone a couple of weeks ago and bought it out of curiosity. Not a cheap paddle at $210 retail. Very unique though, just doesn't fit my style. If you're interested, I'll be happy to send it your way for a review.
What did you not care for about it? Just kinda a wonky style overall? Sell it man!! I really appreciate that but I can always snag on and get a review rolling I’d rather you get some money back from it. But that is extremely generous of you 🙏
Testing wise I show a negligible difference. Tiny bit of loss of spin but not much. It does however feel a touch smoother in the sweet spot thatn when I received it. I don't notice any spin loss though. So it may be a placebo effect going on with people who are complaining of the texture wearing down. Or people feel it and it feels a touch smoother so they just think it's going down when in reality it's playing about the same.
So I took it out on a ball machine and ripped drives with it for a couple days and as of now I am noticing it getting smoother in the sweet spot area for sure. Going to be testing spin soon but not a good sign. Thinking it’s best to either grab a Mark Pure or a Mark Kinetic at this point as they both are using Toray T700 and will last way longer for cheaper and are the same shape. More info to come soon though.
Good idea! TLDR would be Ruby is more all court and has more power for sure a touch less feel but still fairly soft for the control game. Mach 2 Forza is a control beast, with relative to greater spin, and is SUPER plush off the face. Very forgiving. Definitely a better sweet spot and better feeling on off center shots than the Ruby.
I think they both at the top of their respective categories. The DBi is the best edgeless paddle that does well all around and is high hand speed. The Ruby is the best general all around paddle but slower hand speed. So I would make my decision based on hand speed if I were you. Do you have tennis elbow? Slower hands? And want something that moves fast? Or something that’s a bit slower but has more stability and a better sweet spot? Those are the main differences here 😊 if you wanna discuss further let me know! Always here to help.
Yeah mine is starting to feel smooth in the sweet spot area as well. I’ve been using it nonstop lately and I feel that too. I’ll have to do an update video soon and measure the spin again..
I think my top recommendation right now would be the Mark Pure(Hybrid Toray T700 Carbon Fiber) or the Mark Kinetic(Carbon Fiber Kevlar Blend) they are wonderful for the price and the blend doesn’t seem to wear down like the 100% Kevlar is seeming to. Dang it. I thought I had put this through enough testing waiting on my review but as it seems I need to definitely do an update soon.
@@stspickleball So how long does it seem to take to start to get surface wear that can effect the spin of the Ruby? Is this the Kevlar material or the new Six.zero surface texture that is getting the wear?
Yeah sadly the first run was a big variance I spoke to Dale the owner and he said the subsequent batches will be much tighter :( I'm sorry you got a higher swing weight vairant. Send them an email sometimes they will take care of you just depends. Companies like CRBN and Volair have incredible customer service but I haven't had to go through Six Zero's yet.

Coming soon! The Kinetic is surprisingly good in my first play session. Very interesting. Going to be analyzing metrics soon but it’s feeling wonderful.

@@stspickleball Dale is a solid guy with top level integrity and humility. The wait for the Ruby has been so long, I took a risk on the MARK.
@@kimleith1378 nice I think you’ll love it!!
Crazy story, so my Ruby was the first confirmed paddle from the company that had delaminated. Replacement is on the way but I had an in depth conversation with the owner. They have incredible customer service which makes my love for 6.0 even stronger
Good to hear! Yeah the owner Dale takes immense pride in his work and his craft. He’s an amazing dude 100%
How would you compare to diadem 18k pro. Which I bought cause of your review. Had it for about 3 months now and I love it.
@@stspickleball thank you so much for your reply. Honest and fair. Love your videos keep up the good work.
Heck yeah always here to help!!
Thanks for the great review! Now that it’s out could you give me some insight on how it feels and plays compared to the Mach 1 Forza?
It has a better sweet spot, and more spin. I’d say on drives it feels honestly very similar. I kind of like the shape of the Forza a touch better personally I feel like it cuts through the air easier for drives and serves. But the Ruby has a better soft game and is better for resets due to the way Kevlar feels on softer shots. If you have any other specific questions just let me know!
Also the Mark Pure and the new BALLR Heat are better options for the price than the Mach 1 Forza and also compete with the Ruby.
Nice work, man. I like your description of how it feels on drives versus the soft game
Solid review! Appreciate the detailed thoughts!
Heck yeah man!! You’re very welcome thanks for the positive vibes and the comment!
I missed out on the Ruby again yesterday but I just ordered the Mark Krypton Elongated (soon to be renamed the Kinetic E), any opinions or thoughts on the the Krypton?
I have a review for the kinetic coming out! I have heard of the Krypton but I don't have that one yet how did you get it before release?
I kind of stumbled into finding the Krypton. I googled Mark Pickleball elongated and a purchase link came up so I ordered it. The strange thing is that the Kryton does not appear on the Mark website if you go directly into the website. Good thing is I used a 10% discount code. It cost around $135. In my book it's a great deal for a Kevlar paddle. Will be using for the first time tomorrow.
Let me know how it goes!!
Do you clean the Ruby with the same product as a carbon fiber paddle?
Yep....paddle eraser works perfect. Verified by other reviewers also.
I do yes and no issues at all
I noticed that SixZero cautions against using a rubber face cleaner on the Ruby...
@@Guy_WashburnWhere did you read that? I couldn't find anything on their site.
@@Guy_Washburn You are correct. it does say they don't recommend using cleaning rubber on the Ruby.
I'm wondering how long the spin will last? I have witnessed & seen a couple lose the spin pretty fast. I'm not sure if it was because me & my firiend got the very first batch of the initial production run? 🤔
It’s something I’m paying attention to right now. I’m going to be doing further testing over the next month + and I will update you 100%
Will you do reviews for Franklin FS Tour and Head Radical Raw for these big brand compared with those specialized Pickleball paddle’s brands?
Love the enthusiasm! I appreciate all of the feedback!!
It does yes it’s quite gritty. Also, yes it is fine to use a carbon fiber eraser on it 😊😊
Are you going to do a review on the Hurache X - Control? This would be a great paddle to compare to the Ruby. It has a three layer surface with carbon fiber and a layer of fiberglass sandwiched in the middle. It seems to have similar playing characteristics, of the Ruby, based off reviews I've seen on it.
I will yes I just spoke to the owner and I have a couple models on the way :) You know your stuff! Impressive.
@@stspickleball I'm a total paddle nerd. I need to stop buying so many paddles.
Hahaha it’s just so fun to play with different paddles!!
Awesome review as usual! I'm going to need a bigger bag if this keeps up! I fear paddle collecting is going to become a habit...
Also thank you for the kind words.
Hey, brother. You may not have many subscribers (yet), but your paddle reviews are the best
Do you plan on reviewing the Ace Club paddle?
But that is extremely generous of you 🙏
Spot on!! Great realistic review. Did you notice any drop after 2 weeks or more of hard play in the peel ply texture?
Testing wise I show a negligible difference. Tiny bit of loss of spin but not much. It does however feel a touch smoother in the sweet spot thatn when I received it. I don't notice any spin loss though. So it may be a placebo effect going on with people who are complaining of the texture wearing down. Or people feel it and it feels a touch smoother so they just think it's going down when in reality it's playing about the same.
Could you please test the spin rate after a few months? 😊🤔
@@BobbyHTTC absolutely I will
so how was the durability?
So I took it out on a ball machine and ripped drives with it for a couple days and as of now I am noticing it getting smoother in the sweet spot area for sure. Going to be testing spin soon but not a good sign. Thinking it’s best to either grab a Mark Pure or a Mark Kinetic at this point as they both are using Toray T700 and will last way longer for cheaper and are the same shape. More info to come soon though.
informative review - maybe do a review on the Volair Mac II vs the 6.0 Ruby.
Coming from a Selkirk power air and want something more all around should I get this or the DBI?
I think they both at the top of their respective categories. The DBi is the best edgeless paddle that does well all around and is high hand speed. The Ruby is the best general all around paddle but slower hand speed. So I would make my decision based on hand speed if I were you. Do you have tennis elbow? Slower hands? And want something that moves fast? Or something that’s a bit slower but has more stability and a better sweet spot? Those are the main differences here 😊 if you wanna discuss further let me know! Always here to help.
I just checked the ruby face on a friends paddle. He’s a 4.5 player - the surface in the sweet stop area is now smooth after play for 4 months!
Love my Ruby. Plenty of power from the baseline, plenty of touch at the net.
Mine came at 120 sw the weight ranges on these are wide
Yeah sadly the first run was a big variance I spoke to Dale the owner and he said the subsequent batches will be much tighter :( I'm sorry you got a higher swing weight vairant. Send them an email sometimes they will take care of you just depends. Companies like CRBN and Volair have incredible customer service but I haven't had to go through Six Zero's yet.
Is the review based on the 16mm or 14mm I can’t wait to buy it
