- A Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg game with UK (me) vs Germany (Taki).
This game came about because Steel Division 2 had recently added two divisions that made heavy use of Fireflies and Achilles so after playing them in that game I wanted to try them out in Combat Mission. It did not go as well as I'd hoped.
Im very happy to finally see more combat mission content on my youtube feed, reminds me im not the only guy struggling with tactical problems lmao
Always good to see more combat mission stuff on youtube
Great battle - thanks for sharing. I really enjoy the length and presentation style of these. A lot of people don't show the times they get well beaten so extra credit for this one. Panzers on elite was a big learning point, the 25Pdrs did well, what other learning points did you take from this? The only other thing that I think I'd obviously take away is the risk of advancing into 1v1 tank duels probably isn't worth it. And maybe expect vehicles to bog and set up with this in mind? ;)
Thanks! The tank duels were a problem for sure, I had expected the Fireflies to do better so I got a little careless with them. I do think I did pretty well with my infantry forces, but the armour was used poorly. I do wonder how effective taking a mechanized force with some faster tanks like Cromwells and trying a mad dash across one of the crossings would be...
@@valdusaurelian From my experience with the fireflies they're best used as an american Tank Destroyer rather than as a normal tank. putting them in ambush positions or utilizing their high velocity guns for long range sniping works best against german armor
I'm very happy that the Combat Mission AAR community is still alive and well. I'm very eager to see your future content !
Re: the compass confusion - it's because generally we look at maps with north as up
That makes sense, I'll use that as my excuse :)
Excellent video... thanks for putting it together. :)
Really enjoying these videos!
16:00 thats the reason why german infantry doctrine kinda fell apart
germans were like machinegun is base of fire and centre of attention, while allies went ham with mortars, and mortars do better suppression that machineguns could
Great Match! Next time you get him.
We have a Fortress Italy game going on right now, that doesnt look good for me
@petertakacs8715 well it would be cool if you upload your view and plan.
Iam too lazy for that, sorry@@groeny2
There seems to be something wrong with our bloody tanks today.
Very enjoyable video. I'd say your main flaw was playing your armor too aggressively and over-committing your infantry to that treeline on the left flank. If I were you, I would have pulled my infantry back into the central farm and hoped to ward off a German offensive before launching my own counter attack. The treeline was simply too small to have all that infantry bunched up there and German armor clearly has the advantage due to better armor and firepower (not to mention how artillery explodes on trees and makes it even more potent). You also didn't bring any HMGs which would make it harder to gain fire superiority over German guns. Your best bet would be to shorten the engagement distance and force the Germans into the same susceptible treeline you were in, along with forcing them to try and cross an open area if they wanted to take the farm VP. I then would have put more of a concentration of infantry on the right side to try and take the town. The Jagdpanther would have to be engaged by multiple vehicles from multiple flanks in order to defeat it. Kudos to you and your opponent though.
Good analysis. I was fixated on stopping him from getting across the river at all, but letting him cross and then hitting him while he was bottlenecked by the crossing points would have been better.
@@valdusaurelian looking forward to seeing more pvp AARs from you in the future, you earned a sub.
Up for a pbem match I'd be an honour... CMFB
Great video! Thanks for putting a 'u' in armour. My next video is on this exact map btw, just so you don't think I'm copying you.
I'm still up for a PBEM if you want to exchange emails.
The south bridge is east on the map, so it's an error on the part of the battle designer, not you.
When I played CM TRP's weren't allowed in meeting engagements as they are supposed to represent accidental contact, and not a planned attack / defence.
That's not a bad idea. We were okay with TRPs, but for meeting engagements and as the defender in an attack/defend we don't allow immediate start artillery strikes.
Nice video, also cool profile pic.
How do you extract the replay files? Do you just go turn by turn grabbing the replay file before it gets deleted or?
Thanks :)
I've mostly been playing as manual PBEM instead of PBEM++ so that I have the save file for every turn. Once the game is done, I can go back and load each file to record it.
@@valdusaurelian Ah damn, Cause i mostly do turn-based LAN against my friends, and yeah. So it seems i gotta do manual PBEM for one of theese.
Really nice video. Would like to play this QB map, which one is it?
Thanks! The map was "Rough-Town-Water (1408 x 704) 045m.btt".
