    I remember reading David's journalism a decade ago when I was a student. People like him helped me in forming my anti-zionist convictions a great deal, especially hearing it from an Israeli.

    You guys should invite Nemahsis to the podcast, she’s a Canadian-Palestinian singer/songwriter from Jericho who was dropped from the label she had just signed with right before her album came out because Oct. 7th happened and she’s Palestinian. She’s been having trouble ever since getting her music played or invited on any shows, which is a shame because she’s so very talented.

      That was such a good point David made that the Kahanists never protested the kidnapping and murder of Jews in Argentina at the same time they were targeting the USSR. They knew they couldn't get Jews to immigrate from Argentina. I had a Jewish friend from Leningrad who came over to the U.S.A. with the "freeing" of Jews from the USSR. He said, yes, there was career preference given to non-Jews but there wasn't an effort to stamp out Jewish culture; I met his Yiddish-speaking aunt when when she came over, but unfortunately my Yiddish skills weren't anything like they are now, and Eastern Yiddish is a bit different anyway. In the early 1930s a Jewish Autonomous Region was set aside in the Russian far east on the Trans-Siberian, about 600 km from Vladivostok, Russia and an equal distance from Harbin, China; in a couple more decades, this may be a strategic location for trade. th-cam.com/video/zRTJNpP-15c/w-d-xo.html

    Today, with the latest enforced "evacuation" of Khan Younis, I must admit the Hasbara is just too depressing, so I'm gonna give this one my bare attention before switching over to the UK exit polls and seeing exactly how badly the Conservative government there get trashed. I used to live in the UK and their legislation...made my life both as a teacher and an immigrant twice as difficult as it needed to be. So seeing the definitive bad guys lose for once will give me the moral (some might say "most moral") sustenance I need.

    The "planting trees in Israel" thing seems insidious - aside from trying to terraform the place to have a more European environment, it feels like a brilliant way to spread the idea that Israel was a barren wasteland until the Jews came back to fix it. "If you need to plant trees in Israel, there must not be any trees in Israel, so surely nothing could have lived there?" It's like the tendency people have to think Africa is full of starving children because that's what the NGO's taught us, except they did so accidentally while trying to help, y'know, starving children.

    • @billyclifton5710
      @billyclifton5710 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +28

      @@Sorenzo In The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, Ilan Pappe describes how the European pine trees Israel planted, after bulldozing ancient groves of native olive trees, either frequently died or were supplanted by olive trees that regrew from their roots. Just as Palestinians have refused to be replaced by land thieves...

    • @fozia31
      @fozia31 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      can't grow European trees in a desert, it's just asking for wildfires, there isn't enough rainfall and the tree roots seek out any water. The least they could do is study Botany and plant suitable trees, or leave the Olive trees alone.

      @IsaacSperrow 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@fozia31I kinda love the irony of the situation. Its like the Earth (or if you want to get religious about it, God) is saying "hey...don't do that, you won't succeed" every time they want to force it.

      Thats actually just false propaganda. The land of israel was once full of trees but all the colonial powers that conquered the land from the Romans to the ottman used the tress and left israels land a waste land. So the idea of replanting trees was inorder to bring the land back to its natural way. Most trees are aleppo pines that are native to that region.

    I find the points made about Ben-Gvir and the media coverage of his political party to be fascinating.
    To a lesser extent, I see similar things happening elsewhere. The attention some of these divisive (outright hateful) figures get is frustrating. The uncritical oxygen they're given feeds them, then suddenly they've managed their way into parliament by feeding off the worst of society. And they know it!! There is awareness to their manipulation and the 'center-right' parties that work alongside them, to get into government. They let the further right parties push the narrative towards more hateful ideas, but distance themselves from it, even though they probably agree with it more than they let on. Ultimately it'll suit some other neoliberal purpose for them - land assets, most likely.
    We have a couple of figures like this in New Zealand (or Aotearoa if you wanna be cool) who just will not go away. One guy was ALWAYS given space in the media, because he was always available. I'm not sure how much he believes in the bs he spouts, he's a bit more of a debate bro, with no values other than MONEY. Now in coalition government, his party has a ridiculous amount of important portfolios given to people clearly out of their depth. Our center-right-wing party is essentionally being wagged by the tail. By two horrid parties who only got a small percentage of the vote.... funnily enough lots of zionist rhetoric comes out of these guys. Freaking Colonists gotta stick together.
    Loved the episode as usual. I'm going to see if we can organise a screening of that documentary here with our local activist groups

    I had formed a deeper understanding of that society through hearing David Sheen and Nurit Peled-Elhanan (author of book "Palestine in Israeli School Books: Ideology and Propaganda in Education").
    I had been scratching my head considering how everyone is not questioning how they are bombing - how do they know they won't kill their own? This explains a lot. Nowadays there are some rescued hostages who say they were afraid they'll die from the IDef bombs, but still that question is not presented up front.
    Tells a lot about the media. Trum..p... waaaa... aas he riiiiiiiiiiiiight? hmm? As much as I hate his type, and we're not coming from the same angle, he was right about the media!

    Excellent guest and program. Your juju is strong when you can elicit such much needed laughter on topics that could easily bring about madness.

    It would have been awesome if Michael Brooks were still alive and had David Sheen on his show, discussing Kahanism and New York City relationship with Meir Kahane.

      He only goes by Dahab, as far as I can tell. I saw a video with him & Daniel Maté together, that's how I know you know him, Daniel. Thank you for responding. I did find some recent posts of his, so I think maybe he's just not doing so many lives anymore. I've seen that. Sometimes people say what they have to say and then we don't hear much from them until they have something else to say. It's just part of life online (idk, I guess, I never lived so much online prior to Oct 7) that we get attached to people we don't really know and then when they disappear, we wonder if they are just living their lives or if something bad has happened to them.

    Please have Tadhg on again when Daniel is on. It would be really cool to see the 3 of you together.
