This is the last song on the last album Rush ever created together. Some calls this Neil’s (R.I.P.) lyrical swan song… Hope you have some tissue handy. Long live the mighty Rush 👊🏻
The Power Of Rush in a nutshell! These guys bring you to places where you couldn't have imagined you'd go to; places in your mind that you didn't even knew existed. Through Neil's lyrics, you are brought into an awareness that wouldn't have been released had you not come across these three wonderful eloquent and down to earth human beings. Now add to that their breathtaking talent as musicians, their demeanor, their distinctiveness, their steadfast commitment not to compromise, their strong determination to excel, well this is what you get.
My favorite from Power Trio The last song from the last album "I stood in the control room listening while the strings were being recorded," Peart recalled in the bio. "It occurred to me that all songwriters should experience the sensual delight of hearing their songs performed by an accomplished string section. For example, when these virtuoso artists on violin, viola, cello and double-bass executed David’s plangent orchestration for 'The Garden,' there was not a dry eye in the studio." Neil Peart
I still can't hear that song without crying. This time was no exception. Thank you for all you're doing to keep the Rush legacy alive. It mean's a lot to us old timers.
The future disappears into memory With only a moment between; Forever dwells in that moment. Hope is what remains to be seen. I, too, cannot but weep when I hear the last words on the last song Neil Peart wrote. He is so much missed, and we could use his wisdom now more than ever.
Whenever I hear this song it makes me think of Neil and the personal tragedies he had to endure. It really speaks to how limited our time is and that we need to be sure we’re making the most of each day. What a great way for Rush to finish their recording history.
I'm 64, my first Rush concert was almost 50 years ago. Rush has been the soundtrack of my life. Today, I'm an "old" man with grandchildren, but I freely admit that this song always makes me tear up. Excellent reaction❤❤ Thank you.
From "Finding My Way" to "The Garden" has been & continues to be the most exhilarating & soul enriching Musical journey of my 63+ years of existence...It warms my heart & puts a goofy smile on my face to see generation after generation discover the musical magic & lyrical brilliance that is RUSH...Great Music is timeless & there is no doubt that RUSH will be continuously discovered by new aficionados in the decades to come & will be admired & listened too in the year 2112 and beyond...
Lot of people doing reactions, many do Rush. They’re all really wow’d, and especially Neil’s drumming. Always brings a smile, growing up with them and going to many of their concerts, meeting them several times behind the scenes (worked at several hotels/resorts they stayed at), etc. However, rare is the reactor that dives into the lyrics as well. There are few things that can be a shared, life changing experience for example, seeing a baby be born for the first time, watching a man step on the moon on live TV, and then of course, that first time you hear a Rush song and instantly “get it”. It’s a forever “remember where you were when you first heard or saw” that moment? Your reactions aren’t just fun or interesting, they take us all back in time to that moment. Thanks for inviting us on your journey and reminding us of the unbreakable bond we all share as Rush fans and why. Welcome to the family! 😉✌️😎 PS - You may dig an artist by the name of Estas Tonne - check out his video “The Golden Dragon” . All instrumental. No lyrics needed. His music is definitely another journey.
Final song on their final album, made even more poignant by Neil’s untimely(and shocking) passing. As a fan and student of their music since 1976, THIS is by far their greatest work…the ultimate culmination of and an exclamation point on an amazing career. I too cry every time I hear this, it’s an unbelievably powerful song both lyrically and as a musical composition. Alex’s solo yanks hard on the heartstrings. RIP Bubba🙏🏻 LOVE your reactions to them..welcome to the RUSH rabbit hole
After being a fan 44 yrs Now and being a Drummer , Neil's passing really hurt me. The finese in the writing of these words made me cry the 1st time I ever saw it. So you are in good company. The worlds most talented, Greatest, Inspiring, NON mainstream decent guys and friend. This band is unique, The best.
As was said below, the last song....on their last album. Neil's way of saying "Goodbye", and there's some foreshadowing of what is to come some years later. "It's the measure of a life......a garden to nurture & protect". I cry every time I hear this. Once again, the genius poetry of Neil. RIP.
When Clockwork Angels came out, I listened to it straight through as soon as I could. When the reverb on the final note of The Garden finished, I somehow knew that I had just listened to the last song of the last album that Rush would ever record in the studio... their magnum opus. Tears well up every time I hear this perfect tribute from a perfect band.

This is probably the most beautiful song they ever wrote. I was fortunate to see the band on this tour (they even recorded the concert I went to in Phoenix for the DVD). I just had the feeling listening to this very song that it would be their last album & didn't want to miss them. I was so glad I went.
I was there in the third row in front of Alex, 😊 great concert. Most of the DVD was taped in Dallas. Middleton Dreams, The Pass and Manhattan Project were taped in Phoenix.
Neil lost his daughter in a car accident then his wife shortly after to cancer . Geedys parent were holaucost survivors. The garden to protect your family is the garden
It's not often a trio of close friends can retire, on their own terms, after working so closely together for 40 years. Yes, this was the last song on the last album, but it was more than that. It was a retrospective of their time together making music, and how they finally came to understand that all good things must come to an end. They could stand tall, look back, and say "ya, we did alright for ourselves", while knowing the future still had hopes and dreams of another kind. Rush, as a band, may be gone, but they will never be forgotten....as long as the priests don't come to power. If you really want to cry, try "Time Stand Still" which was recorded by The US Army Band as a tribute to Neil after his passing. Thanks Red!
This song absolutely wrecked me emotionally when it came out. I couldn’t listen to it without becoming a blubbering mess, and I found it such a fitting and appropriate closing chapter to a creative arc that spanned 40 years. Blessed be The Garden 🙏🏼

The Garden is the last song on their last album Clockwork Angels. What a way to end an amazing 40 plus years of so many incredible songs. Love getting see you Love this beautiful song and see how you have fallen in Love with Rush. Alex playing the keyboard so very special. Thank you, Neil, Geddy & Alex. RIP Neil Ellwood Peart. 🌼💜 🎹
Clockwork Angels is such a great album! This tour was so great! My 1st RUSH alblum was ROLL THE BONES. Because it came out when I was in high school. So, it holds a special place in my heart. Just 1 of many alblums you can just put on and listen to the whole alblum start to finish! There are no bad tracks on that one, IMO! Have a great day! Enjoy the rest of your day!😊

My baby brother was a drummer the same as myself and of course, Rush was his favorite band as well. Unfortunately we lost him at only 43 due to Covid. This was the closing song I played for him at end of his funeral. To say this song hits me different is an understatement. Now the professor can teach him some raw skills in heaven. RIP Keebo and Neal.
This is why you're special. Even with all the beauty on the outside, it's your authentic emotions to a song like this that show all the beauty on the inside. I'm so glad you discovered these very special humans and can enjoy revisiting them with the rest of us Rush fans. ❤
Me too. Alex's solo always gets me, you can see that he actually feels it too. And toward the end when Neil is flicking his head on the downbeats. Just kills me.
The last song on the last album. Intended in part to be a tribute to Neil's lost family - it became RUSH's swan song. I can't hear it without crying. What a Garden they have created for us to enjoy. Thank you for doing your part in introducing new people and keeping it alive.
Brings me to tears every time. I always think personally about the loss of Neil but then I think even more of the loss that Geddy and Alex must feel. 🧡
I saw a vid of geddy saying this was a hard song to sing knowing Neil's situation and how hard it was for him on thier final tour because because he was a perfectionist and was struggling 💔
@@Kiera_Jackson74 Neil had developed an infection on his feet during the last tour, from getting his feet wet riding his bike between venues, it hurt to even walk. but as always the show must go on 🤕🥁🎹🎸
The song will hit you more as you think about it after the fact and the words will resonate with you for years. They're truly words to live by. Also their song wish you well which comes right before this on the album I think personally every person should listen to and live by as well.
Rush. Alone is a chronological story of a band! This song the garden is the last song ever written by them.. here’s the real tidbit that makes the hairs on my arm stand up.. Garden Road was the First ever rush song recorded…. We were reading this story for well over 40 years! Greatest band ever!
my drum teacher showed me this at 13 years old showed me rush and neil im now 39 i love them and this song is just its like neil saying goodbye to everyone thank you neil thank you rush
They knew they were near the end, and I always felt that, in his solo, Alex conveyed a deep gratitude for the times they had together, a great sadness to know there wouldn't be many left, and a sliver of hope to still see many more.
Another masterpiece from my favorite band. Neil Peart wrote this song likely knowing he will endure his tragic loss to cancer a few years later. The Garden is the exclamation point to their catalog of music, so fitting. Rush is truly one of the greatest rock/prog bands in our history of music. I was blessed to see them several times in my lifetime and those moments stay with me forever.
I'm not so sure his cancer had been discovered at this point. If you listen to interviews with Geddy, it does appear that it was a few years after the tour.
I remember the first time I heard this. I had to sit there for a few minutes afterwards and think. I remember thinking "that was a farewell." It's come to mean a lot more to me in recent years, ever since I was diagnosed with a potentially fatal illness a few years back (which luckily is being kept under control by medication).
You wouldn’t be the first to cry to this song. It is an emotive song for many Rush fans, the last track on the last album released by Rush and such meaningful lyrics, it’s just one final Rush masterpiece.
I have no words left for this song. I listen to this, I think about Neil, and I cry 😭 This is forever Neil's song, lost to us but never forgotten so long as I have breath in my lungs to speak his name 💔 🤘👏
❤ I swear this is the truth if I couldn't see and I could only listen to the music and your reactions Red I would still say you were the most beautiful woman in the world❤ because of your emotions and how you let them show and how you are so good at dissecting a song I'm bringing it to life❤ you don't just hear a song you live it❤ that is why you are the best reactor ever and that is why to me anyway you are the most beautiful soul I have ever met❤ and I absolutely adore you. #redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #redsarmy #beautifulfuncountrygirl #29K #heartofgoldwithmetalinhersoul
Great reaction!! From first release, I knew (and felt) this song was special! It felt like a swan song, as if Neil knew things were coming to a completion... It always got me emotional hearing this. I think it's Rush's most beautiful song - meaningful, deep lyrics, and the instrumentation is gorgeous - simple by their standards, but oh so effective! The strings, piano, Alex's guitar solo - it's all done with such heart. Now after Neil passed - I can't listen to this song without full-on crying. His passing hit so many of us hard - it was truly the first 'celebrity' passing that I cried over. Thinking of his 'new' life with wife & daughter after the passing of his first daughter & then partner to cancer - then his own death sentence, I felt for their loss, more than ours. Their music & his words have left their indelible mark on my life, and such influence leaves a mark! RIP Neil. Go tend your garden with Jackie & Selena.
The whole arena was crying during this song. I was there in Dallas for this show. This is the last song ever recorded by RUSH. It’s the last song on their final album, “Clockwork Angels”. You must react to more from this album. Actually it’s a total concept album that tells a full story from the first song to the last. A total masterpiece and very befitting to close out their entire career. You’re right when you say that there is only ONE RUSH. They will never be equaled. They are special and anyone who “gets them” will tell you the same thing. I am so enjoying your journey. 🤘🎶💜
"The future disappears into memory with only a moment between. Forever dwells in that moment. Hope is what remains to be seen." A profound line for philosophers and theologians to ponder. Amazing. This lies closer to my heart, to coin a phrase.
It's almost as if when Neil wrote this amazing, lyrically portentous song, he already knew what lies in store. What a life this man both lived and endured, both fantastic and tragically tortured, what a career this band had in it's 40 years. What incredible words, what genius, what performances they gave us. Thank you Neil, thank you Alex, and thank you Geddy, thank you Rush. There will never be another of their ilk. RIP Neil Elwood Peart, the one, the only Professor.
When I saw them in Hartford on opening night of the Vapor Trails tour, after the terrible tragedies in Neil's life and not knowing if they'd ever play together again, I cried. Whenever I hear this song, being the last song on their last album and especially after Neil's passing, I cry. Tears of sadness sure, but mostly tears of appreciation thinking about all the amazing music they gave us and that I was able to experience them for all that time. There'll just never be another band like them
As you have said before Red, "I wish I was there " .....this was Neils' swansong and it tears at your heart when you review decades of lyrics and know of his personal losses ....
Now THAT is how you close an album!!! That it was the final song on the final album makes it the perfect sign off on a career that has inspired so many countless people of all walks of life, not just drummers or musicians.
This basically is a love song in a sense, which comes from the last chapter of the Clockwork Angels book, the lyrics described from a moment of life ,with love and respect, the character in the book returns home to his lover who had a child, and it was time to nurture and love and respect the family garden, as a man.
I don't say this often, or lightly, but "I told you so"....! I'm so glad you reacted to this song. IMO, now that Rush is ended, it's important for those people who don't know them that well to see the love and dignity the band shared within the band and with its fans - right to the end. Rush fans are unique. Those of us who followed them since their beginning were devastated by Neil's death but we celebrated their 40+ years of producing music we love and lyrics from which we could learn and draw inspiration. There's a lot of BS about who was 'the greatest' drummer, etc. Rush is beyond that. Three musicians at the very top of their game; a band that is very much bigger than the sum of its parts.
When this closed Clockwork Angels in 2012, we all knew it would be the last song. I have never listened to this song without crying, as have so many of my brothers and sisters in this fandom. Neil always knew when and how to perfectly tug at our hearts...and this was his way of saying goodbye to us all, because he would never come right out to say it. And the solo Alex laid out for this may actually be his most emotional work ever. I swear his guitar actually cries during it
At Geddy’s book signing in 2018 for his Big Beautiful Book of Bass book, I thanked him for The Garden. Crazy that after experiencing their music for the prior 35+ years of my life (at that time anyway) what I was most compelled to say to him in the brief moment when he signed my book had to do with their final piece of new music.
Rush usually doesn't repeat choruses endlessly as often happens. Here they do it with "It's a measure of a life" to underline the importance of the message for them (but always with different accents and nuances). Natural science for me is the most representative piece of the group. Listen to it first in the studio and then live (Snake and arrows tour is my favorite version)
Clockwork Angels is a masterpiece, and that was a poetic as well as poignant way to wrap up their musical journey. It’s their most moving song, maybe only equaled by The Pass. That show was in credible, the string section really set it apart. Did anyone, and I mean anyone go out like Rush? I don’t think so.
YES!!! SO glad you did this song...last song of last album and it has become one of my favorites! I actually got to see this in Raleigh with my 2 best friends since childhood. Such an amazing song & show. You nailed it Red. When I was younger the music grabbed me and kept me following them. Now, all these years later as I listen the genius of Neil as a song writer hits again and is so different than the younger days! Thank you for your channel and the heart you show in each reaction!
The two triads of rock, both from Canada: TRIUMPH and RUSH. Grew up listening to this. Yeah, good memories. You’re welcome, from The Great White North :)
yea! I watch your reaction later, but wanted to say thank you for reacting to this most endearing song of Rush. I already see by a couple of comments what others feel about this song. Its not easy for me to hear this song, even though I have heard so many times as I its one of my all time favorites, just to think its the last song of their last album, and as mentioned in these other comments, Neil's goodbye / swan song to all Rush fans. I so happy to see you have now reacted to it. Once again thank you.
Always tears for me. I miss these guys so very much! I also think of my dad who passed away. He told us all the time that he loved us and he took care of his "garden". I try every day to take care of my "garden". Please take care of yours!
Given what Neil endured through his life, his perseverance through it, Rush's career in general and Neil's cancer diagnosis ("...the cells tick away..."). There could be no better swan song for them. It's perfect.
Still can't get through this one without the tears... since losing The Professor it hits harder, but it was already a special song after a friend used part of the lyrics in his Mom's eulogy, who always had an amazing garden at their home where they had her memorial, but also an amazing garden of friends and family, which the song lays out so well. It is such a perfect song to wrap up an amazing studio album career, as is all of Clockwork Angels. Count myself lucky to have seen it performed live on the Clockwork tour and on R40.
Hi i love rush, i can get by untill alex hits that solo 🥲 no words needed, your expressions thru the song ,rush fans understood everything you said, i saw this tour, the lyrics, the strings, the performance, that back drop scenery ouffffff 👏👏👏

Always fun watching Alex play the keyboards after knowing how much they impacted the band in every way possible.
It's ok RHN you won't be the only one crying 😭 we Rush fans tear up listening to this song can you imagine how hard it is for Geddy to sing it?
One ofmy favorite Rush songs. It's beautiful and so different from the more popular tunes they recorded
Clockwork Angels as an entire album is right up there with 2112 and may be even better. So glad I saw 5 shows on this tour. Rush is my Garden.
I remember the first time I heard this. I had to sit there for a few minutes afterwards and think. I remember thinking "that was a farewell."
It's come to mean a lot more to me in recent years, ever since I was diagnosed with a potentially fatal illness a few years back (which luckily is being kept under control by medication).
You wouldn’t be the first to cry to this song. It is an emotive song for many Rush fans, the last track on the last album released by Rush and such meaningful lyrics, it’s just one final Rush masterpiece.
Your eyes are more than articulate for us all. Welcome to the Rush army private! Cheers!
Limelight was my favorite RUSH song.... until this was released!! so lucky to have seen this in concert....
The last song on the last album. Magical and so poignant. Also is has almost modern day Beatles sound - brilliantly done. just love this song.
The greatest swan song ever. It's ok to cry listening to this song. I do every time
The whole arena was crying during this song.
Hope is what remains to be seen."
A profound line for philosophers and theologians to ponder. Amazing. This lies closer to my heart, to coin a phrase.
I’m not crying.. you’re crying 😢
❤
Now THAT is how you close an album!!! That it was the final song on the final album makes it the perfect sign off on a career that has inspired so many countless people of all walks of life, not just drummers or musicians.
An appropriate song from their final studio album! Quite a journey to listen in order all of their albums and come to this!
This is their swan song ... a real masterpiece.!!! ... From Clockwork Angels I also really like The Anarchist!.. A great song.
Welcome to the rush army😊
I’m already crying
I was at this show in Dallas, and what an emotional moment for me. My favorite song on Clockwork Angels. Thanks for the reaction Red!
No words are adequate to describe what I feel when I listen to this finale !
It was THEE finale of all time.
I distinctly remember telling you to try not to cry on this one. 🥲 Nice!!
I just love your passion for music and how it touches you.
This one hits home and deep. I relate it personally to so many lost over the years, and of course Neil. Thank you sincerely.
An absolute masterpiece!
Always tears for me. I miss these guys so very much! I also think of my dad who passed away. He told us all the time that he loved us and he took care of his "garden". I try every day to take care of my "garden". Please take care of yours!
The entire Clockwork Angels album is amazing, in my view one of if not the best album they produced.
Given what Neil endured through his life, his perseverance through it, Rush's career in general and Neil's cancer diagnosis ("...the cells tick away..."). There could be no better swan song for them. It's perfect.
Grace Under Pressure. One of their best albums.
Others have said what we all feel about this song ... Neil "The Professor" RIP😢💔❤️
1st....lol. nice pik Red 💚. Love it. Ty lass ☘️🇺🇲
Happy Friday hope you're doing well
Hi i love rush, i can get by untill alex hits that solo 🥲 no words needed, your expressions thru the song ,rush fans understood everything you said, i saw this tour, the lyrics, the strings, the performance, that back drop scenery ouffffff 👏👏👏
Oh my goodness, so happy you did this, The Garden, the swan song, beautiful! Very special song 💜 We're all right with ya with the emotions!
This was the second time I had seen rush. It was 2012 in Las Vegas. One of my all-time favorite rush songs No Doubt.
