This is the last song on the last album Rush ever created together. Some calls this Neil’s (R.I.P.) lyrical swan song… Hope you have some tissue handy. Long live the mighty Rush 👊🏻
The Power Of Rush in a nutshell! These guys bring you to places where you couldn't have imagined you'd go to; places in your mind that you didn't even knew existed. Through Neil's lyrics, you are brought into an awareness that wouldn't have been released had you not come across these three wonderful eloquent and down to earth human beings. Now add to that their breathtaking talent as musicians, their demeanor, their distinctiveness, their steadfast commitment not to compromise, their strong determination to excel, well this is what you get.
Neil lost his daughter in a car accident then his wife shortly after to cancer . Geedys parent were holaucost survivors. The garden to protect your family is the garden
Whenever I hear this song it makes me think of Neil and the personal tragedies he had to endure. It really speaks to how limited our time is and that we need to be sure we’re making the most of each day. What a great way for Rush to finish their recording history.
I still can't hear that song without crying. This time was no exception. Thank you for all you're doing to keep the Rush legacy alive. It mean's a lot to us old timers.
The future disappears into memory With only a moment between; Forever dwells in that moment. Hope is what remains to be seen. I, too, cannot but weep when I hear the last words on the last song Neil Peart wrote. He is so much missed, and we could use his wisdom now more than ever.
My favorite from Power Trio The last song from the last album "I stood in the control room listening while the strings were being recorded," Peart recalled in the bio. "It occurred to me that all songwriters should experience the sensual delight of hearing their songs performed by an accomplished string section. For example, when these virtuoso artists on violin, viola, cello and double-bass executed David’s plangent orchestration for 'The Garden,' there was not a dry eye in the studio." Neil Peart
As was said below, the last song....on their last album. Neil's way of saying "Goodbye", and there's some foreshadowing of what is to come some years later. "It's the measure of a life......a garden to nurture & protect". I cry every time I hear this. Once again, the genius poetry of Neil. RIP.
This song absolutely wrecked me emotionally when it came out. I couldn’t listen to it without becoming a blubbering mess, and I found it such a fitting and appropriate closing chapter to a creative arc that spanned 40 years. Blessed be The Garden 🙏🏼
The last song from the final album by RUSH! What a way to cap a 40+ year journey by one of the greatest bands of all time. Outstanding!! Thanks much for this one.☮
It's not often a trio of close friends can retire, on their own terms, after working so closely together for 40 years. Yes, this was the last song on the last album, but it was more than that. It was a retrospective of their time together making music, and how they finally came to understand that all good things must come to an end. They could stand tall, look back, and say "ya, we did alright for ourselves", while knowing the future still had hopes and dreams of another kind. Rush, as a band, may be gone, but they will never be forgotten....as long as the priests don't come to power. If you really want to cry, try "Time Stand Still" which was recorded by The US Army Band as a tribute to Neil after his passing. Thanks Red!
When Clockwork Angels came out, I listened to it straight through as soon as I could. When the reverb on the final note of The Garden finished, I somehow knew that I had just listened to the last song of the last album that Rush would ever record in the studio... their magnum opus. Tears well up every time I hear this perfect tribute from a perfect band.
The Garden is the last song on their last album Clockwork Angels. What a way to end an amazing 40 plus years of so many incredible songs. Love getting see you Love this beautiful song and see how you have fallen in Love with Rush. Alex playing the keyboard so very special. Thank you, Neil, Geddy & Alex. RIP Neil Ellwood Peart. 🌼💜 🎹
This is probably the most beautiful song they ever wrote. I was fortunate to see the band on this tour (they even recorded the concert I went to in Phoenix for the DVD). I just had the feeling listening to this very song that it would be their last album & didn't want to miss them. I was so glad I went.
My baby brother was a drummer the same as myself and of course, Rush was his favorite band as well. Unfortunately we lost him at only 43 due to Covid. This was the closing song I played for him at end of his funeral. To say this song hits me different is an understatement. Now the professor can teach him some raw skills in heaven. RIP Keebo and Neal.
This is why you're special. Even with all the beauty on the outside, it's your authentic emotions to a song like this that show all the beauty on the inside. I'm so glad you discovered these very special humans and can enjoy revisiting them with the rest of us Rush fans. ❤
I have no words left for this song. I listen to this, I think about Neil, and I cry 😭 This is forever Neil's song, lost to us but never forgotten so long as I have breath in my lungs to speak his name 💔 🤘👏
As you have said before Red, "I wish I was there " .....this was Neils' swansong and it tears at your heart when you review decades of lyrics and know of his personal losses ....
❤ I swear this is the truth if I couldn't see and I could only listen to the music and your reactions Red I would still say you were the most beautiful woman in the world❤ because of your emotions and how you let them show and how you are so good at dissecting a song I'm bringing it to life❤ you don't just hear a song you live it❤ that is why you are the best reactor ever and that is why to me anyway you are the most beautiful soul I have ever met❤ and I absolutely adore you. #redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #redsarmy #beautifulfuncountrygirl #29K #heartofgoldwithmetalinhersoul
The ultimate Swan Song for the finest collection of musical artists, ever, and it was an amazingly distinct honor and emotional pleasure to experience such a special moment in Rock ‘n’ Roll music history, live(.) What a way to go out and an eternal tip of my hat to my favorite band of all time, the incredible, incomparable, unrivaled, unparalleled trio of Lee, Lifeson, & Peart……RUSH! 🤘🏼🖤
Me too. Alex's solo always gets me, you can see that he actually feels it too. And toward the end when Neil is flicking his head on the downbeats. Just kills me.
I'm 64, my first Rush concert was almost 50 years ago. Rush has been the soundtrack of my life. Today, I'm an "old" man with grandchildren, but I freely admit that this song always makes me tear up. Excellent reaction❤❤ Thank you.
Clockwork Angels is such a great album! This tour was so great! My 1st RUSH alblum was ROLL THE BONES. Because it came out when I was in high school. So, it holds a special place in my heart. Just 1 of many alblums you can just put on and listen to the whole alblum start to finish! There are no bad tracks on that one, IMO! Have a great day! Enjoy the rest of your day!😊
@@davidl7605 my first cassette was moving pictures in 83 had a GE cassette player that was awesome and sounded really good then got 2112 then signals and so on many memories with just me and my GE player!
@staceyDemell My 2nd album I got Moving Pictures on CD. My favorite track is The Camera Eye! I went backward from Roll the Bones. Plus, my 2 friends in high school would get other CDs of theirs. So we covered all of their albums pretty quickly. Have a great day!
Brings me to tears every time. I always think personally about the loss of Neil but then I think even more of the loss that Geddy and Alex must feel. 🧡
Believe me I see. I've seen for decades for decades. Gets you right in the feels so deep. So right. RUSH The greatest rock band that ever was or ever will be.
"The future disappears into memory with only a moment between. Forever dwells in that moment. Hope is what remains to be seen." A profound line for philosophers and theologians to ponder. Amazing. This lies closer to my heart, to coin a phrase.
...even when you are not capable to put it into words, we see it in your eyes. And you can be sure we feel exactly the same. There was and is some magic in this band and it's music. I'm so glad i was born in 60's so i had a chance to live alongside those guys and see them live. They are the biggest influence in my own music. Thank you for this! Cheers from TTKing in Finland!
Great reaction!! From first release, I knew (and felt) this song was special! It felt like a swan song, as if Neil knew things were coming to a completion... It always got me emotional hearing this. I think it's Rush's most beautiful song - meaningful, deep lyrics, and the instrumentation is gorgeous - simple by their standards, but oh so effective! The strings, piano, Alex's guitar solo - it's all done with such heart. Now after Neil passed - I can't listen to this song without full-on crying. His passing hit so many of us hard - it was truly the first 'celebrity' passing that I cried over. Thinking of his 'new' life with wife & daughter after the passing of his first daughter & then partner to cancer - then his own death sentence, I felt for their loss, more than ours. Their music & his words have left their indelible mark on my life, and such influence leaves a mark! RIP Neil. Go tend your garden with Jackie & Selena.
You wouldn’t be the first to cry to this song. It is an emotive song for many Rush fans, the last track on the last album released by Rush and such meaningful lyrics, it’s just one final Rush masterpiece.
THANK YOU for doing a reaction video for this. I've heard this song/seen this video probably 50 times and I still tear up. Knowing that Neil's daughter and wife had recently died and the prognosis for himself, this is REALLY a special song he wrote (among his others) and it will be with us forever. I really appreciate your RUSH reactions and was excited to see you reacted to 'The Garden'. As a long time RUSH fan (I saw them several times in concert) I LOVE your appreciation for their mastery of instruments, lyrics and voice. Keep it up and long live RUSH! 🙃
Hi red headed neighbour, ur reactions to the garden bring tears to me eyes! because you truly get rush like I have since 1981 and layers of Neil I’ve learn’t a lot of since!
This song hits home..... the measure of a life.. To hear this as a Rush fan and not shed a tear is unfathomable. There are others that give you a gut punch but when a certain trio has been the soundtrack to your life, it hits deep.
As I said before. Clockwork Angels is the best, and the last, album of these 3 guys. This is truly the best way of saying good bye. They did it the right way. Long live Rush, in our hearts and in our minds.
Greetings from San Diego's resident Rushoholic here. This was filmed in the American Airlines Center in Dallas on 11/27/2012 less than a week after their last San Diego show. Neil is channeling the classic writer Voltaire here. Jason Sniderman did the keyboard pass on the CLOCKWORK ANGELS album from 2012 which Alex played here. Rush easily ccould've used tapes or samples for the string arrangements, but a catwalk was built above and behind Neil's kit. Eight live musicians made up the section for a given show with 11 total players always on this tour. For a number of years Rush had stopped carrying an opening act. The show was 2.5-3 hours of Rush with a 20 minute break halfway through. The new album with the strings made up the 2nd half. Older material filled out the encore as well as the first half. You stay classy, Red...
I know many people rip Geddy's 'diminished' vocal capacity, but I love that imperfection in his inflections, especially with what is their swan song. The melancholic but hopeful nature of this song works with his uneven vocals here. After a shaky start, he rounds into form. So glad I got to witness them live 27 times over the years. Even more gratifying that I existed in the same timeframe as they did.
Alex Lifeson and David Gilmour are my 2 favourite guitarists ever. Both of them have the ability to convey and illicit emotion with their playing. Alex showcases that here.
yea! I watch your reaction later, but wanted to say thank you for reacting to this most endearing song of Rush. I already see by a couple of comments what others feel about this song. Its not easy for me to hear this song, even though I have heard so many times as I its one of my all time favorites, just to think its the last song of their last album, and as mentioned in these other comments, Neil's goodbye / swan song to all Rush fans. I so happy to see you have now reacted to it. Once again thank you.
I think it's a capstone to The Fountain of Lamneth. VI. The Fountain Look the mist is rising, and the sun is peaking through. See the steps grow lighter as I reach their final few. Hear the dancing waters; I must be drawing near. Feel, my heart is pounding with embattled hope and fear. Now at last I fall before The Fountain of Lamneth. I thought I would be singing, but I'm tired, out of breath. Many journeys end here, but the secret's told the same. Life is just the candle, and a dream must give it flame. The key, the end, the answer, stripped of their disguise. Still it's all confusion, and tears spring to my eyes. Though I've reached a signpost; it's really not the end. Like old Sol behind the mountain, I'll be coming up again. I'm in motion. I am still. I am crying. I am still. I'm together. I'm apart. I'm forever at the start. Still, I am.
I remember the first time I heard this. I had to sit there for a few minutes afterwards and think. I remember thinking "that was a farewell." It's come to mean a lot more to me in recent years, ever since I was diagnosed with a potentially fatal illness a few years back (which luckily is being kept under control by medication).
Clockwork Angels is a masterpiece, and that was a poetic as well as poignant way to wrap up their musical journey. It’s their most moving song, maybe only equaled by The Pass. That show was in credible, the string section really set it apart. Did anyone, and I mean anyone go out like Rush? I don’t think so.
They knew they were near the end, and I always felt that, in his solo, Alex conveyed a deep gratitude for the times they had together, a great sadness to know there wouldn't be many left, and a sliver of hope to still see many more.
It's almost as if when Neil wrote this amazing, lyrically portentous song, he already knew what lies in store. What a life this man both lived and endured, both fantastic and tragically tortured, what a career this band had in it's 40 years. What incredible words, what genius, what performances they gave us. Thank you Neil, thank you Alex, and thank you Geddy, thank you Rush. There will never be another of their ilk. RIP Neil Elwood Peart, the one, the only Professor.
Hi i love rush, i can get by untill alex hits that solo 🥲 no words needed, your expressions thru the song ,rush fans understood everything you said, i saw this tour, the lyrics, the strings, the performance, that back drop scenery ouffffff 👏👏👏
When this closed Clockwork Angels in 2012, we all knew it would be the last song. I have never listened to this song without crying, as have so many of my brothers and sisters in this fandom. Neil always knew when and how to perfectly tug at our hearts...and this was his way of saying goodbye to us all, because he would never come right out to say it. And the solo Alex laid out for this may actually be his most emotional work ever. I swear his guitar actually cries during it
Well Done Red. The Garden is one of those sings isn't it? WOW. Can't help but remember Neil and wonder how much of this song is him writing about his own life. He gave so much to all of us through his writings and his play. WHOA. I'd check out "The Wreckers" from this concert also. It's off the charts also.
Oh my goodness! Thank you! I have a reaction to that one in my Rush playlist. Would you like to pick another one? I would be happy to react to another Rush!
The last song on the last album. Intended in part to be a tribute to Neil's lost family - it became RUSH's swan song. I can't hear it without crying. What a Garden they have created for us to enjoy. Thank you for doing your part in introducing new people and keeping it alive.
The Professor's swan song. Beautiful on several levels, but what really stood out to me, was the guitar solo. It may be the most thoughtful solo ever played by Alex. I still think his solo on the live, Exit Stage Left version of La Villa Strangiato is his magnum opus, but for the limited length and depth of feeling being conveyed, this solo on The Garden is just damn perfect. Great reaction!
I don't say this often, or lightly, but "I told you so"....! I'm so glad you reacted to this song. IMO, now that Rush is ended, it's important for those people who don't know them that well to see the love and dignity the band shared within the band and with its fans - right to the end. Rush fans are unique. Those of us who followed them since their beginning were devastated by Neil's death but we celebrated their 40+ years of producing music we love and lyrics from which we could learn and draw inspiration. There's a lot of BS about who was 'the greatest' drummer, etc. Rush is beyond that. Three musicians at the very top of their game; a band that is very much bigger than the sum of its parts.
When I saw them in Hartford on opening night of the Vapor Trails tour, after the terrible tragedies in Neil's life and not knowing if they'd ever play together again, I cried. Whenever I hear this song, being the last song on their last album and especially after Neil's passing, I cry. Tears of sadness sure, but mostly tears of appreciation thinking about all the amazing music they gave us and that I was able to experience them for all that time. There'll just never be another band like them
Another masterpiece from my favorite band. Neil Peart wrote this song likely knowing he will endure his tragic loss to cancer a few years later. The Garden is the exclamation point to their catalog of music, so fitting. Rush is truly one of the greatest rock/prog bands in our history of music. I was blessed to see them several times in my lifetime and those moments stay with me forever.
I'm not so sure his cancer had been discovered at this point. If you listen to interviews with Geddy, it does appear that it was a few years after the tour.
Aww your a sweetheart did my suggestion Hugs!!! As a Canadian I love your comments. This song is close to my heart as it relates to Neils passing. Rush lyric were all written by Neil.
YES!!! SO glad you did this song...last song of last album and it has become one of my favorites! I actually got to see this in Raleigh with my 2 best friends since childhood. Such an amazing song & show. You nailed it Red. When I was younger the music grabbed me and kept me following them. Now, all these years later as I listen the genius of Neil as a song writer hits again and is so different than the younger days! Thank you for your channel and the heart you show in each reaction!
More great lyrics. I enjoy all Rush tunes over the many decades, but really like the 70/80's music from them. Have you done a reaction to La Villa Strangiato yet?? Its a must. Cheerz!!!
Always tears for me. I miss these guys so very much! I also think of my dad who passed away. He told us all the time that he loved us and he took care of his "garden". I try every day to take care of my "garden". Please take care of yours!
I am not a crying man, but this song brings me to tears every time, and I have listened to it dozens and dozens of times.
It just got me to brother!
You are definitely not alone Matt.
Yep
You took the words right out of my mouth.
Me too, bother. Me, too.

I, too, cannot but weep when I hear the last words on the last song Neil Peart wrote. He is so much missed, and we could use his wisdom now more than ever.
My favorite from Power Trio
The last song from the last album
"I stood in the control room listening while the strings were being recorded," Peart recalled in the bio. For example, when these virtuoso artists on violin, viola, cello and double-bass executed David’s plangent orchestration for 'The Garden,' there was not a dry eye in the studio." Neil Peart
I love Rock and Roll, especially Rush, but nothing can evoke the emotions of a talented orchestra.
As was said below, the last song....on their last album. Neil's way of saying "Goodbye", and there's some foreshadowing of what is to come some years later. "It's the measure of a life......a garden to nurture & protect". I cry every time I hear this. Once again, the genius poetry of Neil. RIP.

It's not often a trio of close friends can retire, on their own terms, after working so closely together for 40 years. Yes, this was the last song on the last album, but it was more than that. It was 77 for me to be honest they lost me after Moving Pic The synth took over their sound but i have to say this may be their best song Peace man

This song hits home..... the measure of a life..
To hear this as a Rush fan and not shed a tear is unfathomable. There are others that give you a gut punch but when a certain trio has been the soundtrack to your life, it hits deep.
What a way to cap a 40+ yr journey of music adventure! The ultimate swan song and gift to their fans.
As I said before. Clockwork Angels is the best, and the last, album of these 3 guys. This is truly the best way of saying good bye. They did it the right way. Long live Rush, in our hearts and in our minds.
Clockwork Angels as an entire album is right up there with 2112 and may be even better. So glad I saw 5 shows on this tour. Rush is my Garden.
I saw this tour. It was awsome with the orchestra and everything. Epic
Oh my goodness, so happy you did this, The Garden, the swan song, beautiful! Very special song 💜 We're all right with ya with the emotions!
Alex Lifeson and David Gilmour are my 2 favourite guitarists ever. Both of them have the ability to convey and illicit emotion with their playing. Alex showcases that here.
Alex, David, and Steve Rothery are the holy triumvirate of guitar
VI. The Fountain
Look the mist is rising,
and the sun is peaking through.
See the steps grow lighter
as I reach their final few.
Hear the dancing waters;
I must be drawing near.
Feel, my heart is pounding
with embattled hope and fear.
Now at last I fall before
The Fountain of Lamneth.
I thought I would be singing,
but I'm tired, out of breath.
Many journeys end here,
but the secret's told the same.
Life is just the candle,
and a dream must give it flame.
The key, the end, the answer,
stripped of their disguise.
Still it's all confusion,
and tears spring to my eyes.
Though I've reached a signpost;
it's really not the end.
Like old Sol behind the mountain,
I'll be coming up again.
I'm in motion.
I am still.
I am crying.
I am still.
I'm together.
I'm apart.
I'm forever
at the start.
Still, I am.
I remember the first time I heard this. I had to sit there for a few minutes afterwards and think. I remember thinking "that was a farewell."
It's come to mean a lot more to me in recent years, ever since I was diagnosed with a potentially fatal illness a few years back (which luckily is being kept under control by medication).
You have great taste young lady ❤thanks 👌
Welcome to the rush army😊
Clockwork Angels is a masterpiece, and that was a poetic as well as poignant way to wrap up their musical journey. It’s their most moving song, maybe only equaled by The Pass. That show was in credible, the string section really set it apart. Did anyone, and I mean anyone go out like Rush? I don’t think so.
I just love your passion for music and how it touches you.
It got me yet again....😢
Ugh I miss these guys sooo much. This song still rips me apart. Even more so after we lost Neil. RIP
1st....lol. nice pik Red 💚. Love it. Ty lass ☘️🇺🇲
They knew they were near the end, and I always felt that, in his solo, Alex conveyed a deep gratitude for the times they had together, a great sadness to know there wouldn't be many left, and a sliver of hope to still see many more.
One ofmy favorite Rush songs. It's beautiful and so different from the more popular tunes they recorded
I swear his guitar actually cries during it
Grace Under Pressure. One of their best albums.
tears rolling down my cheeks every time I hear this swansong, so an apt a song to conclude their final chapter
Thanks! "Time Stand Still" 😃
Oh my goodness! Thank you! I have a reaction to that one in my Rush playlist. Would you like to pick another one? I would be happy to react to another Rush!
@@redheadedneighbor One of my favorites is "Witch Hunt. That would be cool.
Okay!
Well that was quite the swansong. Talk about poignant lyrics, line after line. So good.
The greatest swan song ever. It's ok to cry listening to this song. I do every time
I don't say this often, or lightly, but "I told you so"....!
There'll just never be another band like them
An appropriate song from their final studio album! Quite a journey to listen in order all of their albums and come to this!
This song is from Rush’s finale and had their first harmony live with a symphony.
This is their swan song ... a real masterpiece.!!! ... From Clockwork Angels I also really like The Anarchist!.. A great song.
Absolute brilliance
I was at this show in Dallas, and what an emotional moment for me. My favorite song on Clockwork Angels. Thanks for the reaction Red!
More great lyrics. I enjoy all Rush tunes over the many decades, but really like the 70/80's music from them.
Have you done a reaction to La Villa Strangiato yet?? Its a must.
Cheerz!!!
Not yet
@@redheadedneighbor Are you really ready for it? ....noticing a pattern .....
@@stevelennox8575 I think so
@@redheadedneighbor You never disappoint Ma'am ;)
That was the closing of a curtain in all it's glory.
This was the second time I had seen rush. It was 2012 in Las Vegas. One of my all-time favorite rush songs No Doubt.
Check out the rock n roll hall of fame when Geddy fills in for the late great Chris Squire simply amasing
Always tears for me. I miss these guys so very much! I also think of my dad who passed away. He told us all the time that he loved us and he took care of his "garden". I try every day to take care of my "garden". Please take care of yours!
