“The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect, so hard to earn, so easily burned. In the fullness of time, a garden to nurture and protect.” R.I.P. Neil, your garden will thrive forever 😢
"The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect. The way you live, the gifts that you give. In the fullness of time is the only return that you expect". Explains Rush to a "T". They gave and they gave without expecting anything in return. They just wanted to share their love and music with us.
@kellyreactionsandstuff You are close on the meaning… Neil explains the song meaning as “ life is like a garden, you must take care of it and nurture it and it will grow into something beautiful “
I get choked up everytime I listen to this one. 40 + years of music and evolution went into this song, the final cut on their final album. It’s incredible! DAMN! I miss these guys.
This absolutely wonderful group could not end their story in any other way than by making us cry. The Garden, the last song produced by these music gods, is sublime!
Neil wrote this and it was an amazing testament to his life. With his passing every time I hear it I tear up, like many Rush fans, their music was part of the sound track of my life. This song reaches people on many levels and that is a beautiful legacy that has been left to us.
Whenever I watch this song being performed, I am reminded how much I miss Rush. They are such a huge part of my life, and I truly miss seeing them perform. I thought they would be around forever. What a fool I was! This song is so special to me, because it symbolizes so much more than what it says in the lyrics. To me, it symbolizes everything that Neil was. It also symbolizes the end of Rush as a band. In its essence it is Neil's swan song, and it was his goodbye. It is beautiful.
My mother lost her battle with cancer about a month before this video was released, and my brother, who introduced me to Rush, lost his battle with cancer just this past October. The Garden is a beautifully moving tribute to three remarkable lives that have touched mine, who were taken far too soon. For another beautifully moving tribute, and a reminder of how time passes quickly and we need to slow down and fully experience every moment we're given, I recommend Time Stand Still as performed by the U.S. Army Band. Rest in peace Professor. Neil Peart R.I.P 🥁 🥁 🐐 🐐
Very true, some songs bring out memories for me. I am glad it was a tribute to the three people you lost, and I am sorry for your loss. My dad has stage 4 cancer and its terminal. I go every weekend and stay at his place and we listen to music, we listen to his favorites 50-60s :) I am taking it all in and enjoying my time and his with him. Thank you for watching and take care. ❤
This was the bands goodbye to the fans. Last album, last tour. Neil physically could not tour anymore. The song kinda follows their career path. They spent decades building their loyal fanbase and the critics bashed them at every turn. Slowly though the critics realized they were wrong and started to give the the props they deserved for so long. They realized here were three virtuoso musicians, probably the best trio ever assembled. They are the most respected musicians in rock music and some of the most humble guys ever. When Neil passed, people who i never imagined were Rush fans came out of the woodwork to pay their respects. There are probably more Neil Peart tributes on YT than any other musician. Their garden grew very well.
Very well said, I'm thinking Neil was in the knowing that he would not be on this realm much longer. Thus this song. Rush's music was epic, and they were the soundtrack of my life. Anyone who never appreciated what they gave to us. Well, you have missed so much.
One little correction. Clockwork Angels tour was not their last tour. The R40 tour in 2015 was their final tour. Neil was diagnosed with Glioblastoma less than a year after the last tour ended. He managed to make it 3 1/2 years before succumbing to the disease in January of 2020. The world has changed since RUSH quit touring and Neil died. They will never be forgotten by the hard core fans. 🤘🎶❤️
Rush weren’t exactly known for their tear-jerking ballads, although there are a few of those moments throughout their career (Losing It, Afterimage, Nobody’s Hero comes to mind). Man, they nailed it with this one. It’s almost like they new it was the end. Many Rush songs are more complex, more heavy, more fun, more illustrative, but none will be more prophetic. A masterpiece of songwriting.
You nailed it that is the meaning of the song. Live life to the fullest make each moment stronger be present and give of yourself give and receive the gifts in your garden. Take nothing for granted.
Rush does an amazing job in teaching us how we should live our lives. Tend to your garden strengthen your relationships don't burn them. Another great song on this album is called wish them well and I think that every American should listen to this song and live by it.😊
This is how you go out. The most amazing swansong. Thanks for 40 years of amazing music. There will never be another band like Rush. I miss them so much.
This song was pure emotion and melancholy when it was released on their final album 11 years ago, and now it tugs on our heart strings more with the passing of Neil Peart 3 years ago. Up until his death, nobody knew what would be the future of Rush after their Clockwork Angels tour, and subsequently their R40 Tour, which was their final tour as a band. This hits hard to this day, and not only in the context of the song or the band in general, but also life in general. Such a beautiful song from a band who has a very wide range in dynamics of talent, skill, and songwriting. Masters of Rock! Thank you for this! RIP Neil.
This song is likely one of the most beautiful songs written about how we should live our lives as human beings. Every time I hear this song I am crying my eyes out. Hard to believe that eleven years have already passed since that final note rang on that final tour.
The song was partly inspired by the novel 'Candide' by Voltaire which was titled 'All for the best' in some translations. In it the character talks about looking back over his life & it being a metaphorical garden. Neil used this as inspiration for the conclusion of the Clockwork Angels story. I guess the events of the following years gave the song extra significance with the bands own conclusion & especially the death of Neil himself. Rather than continuing to be sad at his passing in 2020 I'm trying to be just grateful for his life & his impact on my own.
I attended pretty much every Rush concert (in Michigan) from the tour in 1984 until their final tour. A friend of mine, who attended the last two with me, pops into my mind every time I hear this song. Sadly he passed not long after our final Rush concert in Detroit. I think of him (and Neil) everytime i hear this beautiful swan song
My Dad knew I was a Rush fan, but musically they were a bit too wild for his taste. His generation was the 40's and 50's. But I did play this song for him once after I bought the cd. It really moved him, especially the strings and piano section. He was a pianist. The Garden to me is the perfect closing song for the band. It's just so fitting. They took us all on an unforgettable musical adventure, and I'm so grateful I became a fan way back in the early 80's and got to see them in concert a few times. R.I.P. Pops, and Neil.
Miss them so much, this was such a wonderful show, was my wife's first Rush concert, we were roughly 20 rows from the stage directly in front of Geddy at the Dallas show, in this recording, the staging was so wonderful and the cameras swooping around as they recorded it for this video production was very cool. And the live strings was just an amazing addition to their always incredible shows.
This Rush song moves me like no other and requires me to emotionally brace myself when I listen to it. It is a capstone work that marks the conclusion of this band's career. It is prophetic piece penned by Neil.
❤deep, emotional, insightful and inspiring. However depressingly beautiful and heart wrenching. Can’t watch or listen to it without tearing up myself.🤘🖖✌️🥁🎸🎹🎻🎤🥇🇨🇦🎼
What you probably don't know is their drummer was regarded as probably best in the world. He did this tour with a brain tumor. He plodded on and died a few years ago. Puts everything in perspective
At one point in Alex's career he was trying to get away from soloing, I am so glad he didn't because we would never had this solo, one of my fav's of all time.
She was amazing lady, I spent a lot of time with her, I took care of her towards the end. She had the best advice and knew how to make things feel better. Or she had a different outlook on things which I loved. Thank you for watching. ❤
It is such a beautiful song, The last song on their last album. It is so fitting, I have Had the pleasure To see them 22 times In concert, And I don't regret a bit of it. Splendid musicians, A class act. God-bless you Rush
I know I am not going in a specific order I just pick what is suggested. I will work more to the beginning, thank you for your input and suggestions. Thanks for watching ❤️
Imagine, being a drummer, who's technicality was judged and stood in awe of every other drummer around the world.... and your "goodbye" was basic and emotional. Because Neil's very basic was good enough for us all.
They knew this was more than just closing the doors, it was also their farewell to a king (Neil). How they made it through without crying, I'll never know. I cry every single time.
They knew nothing of the sort. They released this in 2012. They existed for over 3 years after this. Neil lived for 8 years after it Stop posting idiotic things just to hear yourself talk
The future disappears into memory With only a moment between Forever dwells in that moment Hope is what remains to be seen Tear up every time I hear this, could mean a lot of things, but I think how someone feels at the moment they hear that they or a loved one has been told how long they have left.
All 3 are virtuosos on their instruments greatest band of all time lyrically and musically!!!,try driven, mission, marathon, big money, lock and key, turn the page, Animate, trees, witch hunt, freewill, spirit of radio, natural science, vital signs, subdivisions, analog kid, working them angels, clock work angels, I could go on and on and on Any Rush is good Rush!!seen them 39 times!!
Kelly, another Rush song you should listen to is Headlong Flight, off the same last album. The Garden and Headlong Flight are both introspective songs looking at one's life in different ways. While The Garden is a pleasant melodic song, Headlong Flight is totally like an asteroid hitting planet Earth with its 2112esque retro sound. Headlong Flight is a retrospective of Neil being in this band Rush and all the crazy times. And he would do it all again! Those 2 songs are paired, I think. You can't do one without the other. They are so similar, yet so opposite of each other. Headlong Flight might be the hardest rocking song Rush has done since 2112.
I like how you waited till the end to make comment. In so many reaction videos they constantly interrupt the song. This song is very poignant and gives me goosebumps every time I hear and watch it.
If I stop it's either once maybe twice tops or not at all it just depends if I've never heard the band or the song that I want to hear it all the way through in it's entirety. but the thing is some have copyright things so sometimes depending on the band I may have to stop real quick and then say a few things and then go back in and watch the video but thank you I appreciate that. yeah It definitely gave me goosebumps myself.... ❤️ Thanks for watching....

Great reaction. If you want to hear another life centric profound song from Rush, listen to the song "Losing it", but get the studio version with lyrics so you can read along. (BTW, "The Garden" was the last song on their last album, written by Neil Peart, who passed away in Jan 2020.)
Best Live Performance RUSH - Xanadu - Live In Montreal 1981 (2021 HD Remaster 60fps) Alex Lifeson - 6 string guitar, 12 string guitar, pedal synthesizer, volume pedal; Geddy Lee - Vocals, bass guitar, 6 string guitar, foot pedal synthesizer, electric piano/synthesizer; Neil Peart - Lyrics, Drums, orchestra bells, tubular bells, wind chimes, crotales, timbales, timpani, gong, temple blocks, bell tree, triangle, and melodic cowbells. Based on Kubla Khan (Xanadu) by Samuel Taylor Coleridge Coleridge composed his poem, ‘Kubla Khan’, in a state of semi-conscious trance either in the autumn of 1797 or the spring of 1798 and published in 1816. The whole poem is pervaded by an atmosphere of dream and remains in the form of a vision. The vision embodied in Kubla Khan was inspired by the perusal of the travel book, Purchas His Pilgrimage. Coleridge had taken a dose of opium as an anodyne, and his eyes closed upon the line in the book, “At Zanadu Kubla Khan built a pleasure palace.” But this opened his creative vision, and the poem of about 200 lines was composed in this state of waking dream. On being fully awake, he wrote the poem down. The theme of the poem is unimportant. It describes the palace built by Kubla Khan, the grandson of Chengis Khan, the great rule of central Asia. th-cam.com/video/2byjJkN_nVY/w-d-xo.html
A beautiful song. ❤ The last song on their last album. I tear up every time I hear it. Other Songs by Rush The Trees live in Rio Natural Science from the Molson Amphitheatre Toronto Digital Man from the Snakes and Arrows tour Earthshine live in Rio You have a new sub. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
@@KellysReactions We had a small snowstorm yesterday but it is going above freezing tomorrow and up to 10C by next week so hopefully yesterday's snow was winter's last hurrah. 😀
Since you suggested that we put requests in from a variety of artists, I want to suggest the band, Therion . They are what I would call operatic metal, and they’re considered The Godfather of symphonic metal. I suggest the song Sitra Ahra. th-cam.com/video/cWuElafcqis/w-d-xo.html
Geddy's voice ain't what it used..... the man's in his 70s. This is like a goodbye from Neil, even though at the time he wasn't sick. The forshadowing is crazy.
The last song on the last album great place to start 20 albums 40+ year career Soundtrack to my life You asked to for people come your way so let me introduce to another great artist Try BABYMETAL monochrome the first take then their latest song mirror mirror for contrast
Love every bit of this music video. Except that part during the guitar solo where the camera is looking right up Alex's nostrils. Don't care for that bit. But I love all the rest.
Neil wasn't diagnosed until August 2016. While the influence to the lyrics may have been a sense that he figured he was going to retire not long after because he physically couldn't keep up to the standard he set himself, cancer had nothing to do with it.
Why do people apologize when they shed some tears? I'd say if the situation warrants it, it's a sign your emotional needle is probably sitting dead center on the "normal person" scale. I have no problem saying when I listen to this the tears well up, or when I think of harm to kids, or when I lose a 10mm socket.....
My fav band. Seen them every time they came to Indianapolis or Noblesville since 1977, except Hold Your Fire and Presto tours. I thought they'd tour my entire life.
“The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect, so hard to earn, so easily burned. In the fullness of time, a garden to nurture and protect.” R.I.P. Neil, your garden will thrive forever 😢

Yep. The last song on the last album. Glad we got to enjoy them for so many years and now its with us 4ever.
Been listening to Rush for 40+ years. It’s simple: it they don’t play this song at my funeral, I’m not going.
Well said.
This is for real! I love Rush!
That solo by Alex soo majestic and sorrowfull ...ill never forget this
It is SOOOO good. Only problem is it isn't long enough
You nailed it that is the meaning of the song. Live life to the fullest make each moment stronger be present and give of yourself give and receive the gifts in your garden.

This song is likely one of the most beautiful songs written about how we should live our lives as human beings. Every time I hear this song I am crying my eyes out. Hard to believe that eleven years have already passed since that final note rang on that final tour.
When that drum roll comes in, it just hits you every single time. Such a beautiful song lyrically and musically.
you display a beautiful human reaction that we seldom see these days. thank you!
Rush's final song, on their final album. What a way to go out.
A song that I want played at my funeral. Gorgeous.
Thank you for not interrupting this beautiful song, like stopping a bird in flight.
It’s always wonderful getting to watch someone experience Rush. ❤
I attended pretty much every Rush concert (in Michigan) from the tour in 1984 until their final tour. A friend of mine, who attended the last two with me, pops into my mind every time I hear this song. Sadly he passed not long after our final Rush concert in Detroit. very emotional song ...RIP Neil P....this song always reminds me of Neil
This has got to be the most EMOTIONAL and EXPRESSIVE RUSH SONG!
i was lucky enough to see rush live, this song is my absolute favourite even though it's relatively new.
This Rush song moves me like no other and requires me to emotionally brace myself when I listen to it. It is a capstone work that marks the conclusion of this band's career. It is prophetic piece penned by Neil.

What you probably don't know is their drummer was regarded as probably best in the world. He did this tour with a brain tumor. He plodded on and died a few years ago. Puts everything in perspective
This was Neil's and the Band's Swan Song. It was the last written, last recorded and last on the final album.
The lyrics to this song are insanely good. Thanks for listening to this one.
This song refers to your family and close ones , not just the flower garden itself but looking out for those that you care for
At one point in Alex's career he was trying to get away from soloing, I am so glad he didn't because we would never had this solo, one of my fav's of all time.
Such a great performance. The strings give me chills.
I think your tears is felt by us all on so many different fronts
I saw them perform The Garden 3 times and no matter how many times I listen to it I get choked up every time. Thanks for posting!! RIP :Neil Peart.
To be played at my funeral when my day comes. Greetings from a fellow Mainer.
Your grandmom sounds amazing. How fortunate you were to have her in your life.
She was amazing lady, I spent a lot of time with her, I took care of her towards the end. She had the best advice and knew how to make things feel better. Or she had a different outlook on things which I loved. Thank you for watching. ❤
Neil wrote his own eulogy
Wonderful to see someone "get it".
It is such a beautiful song, The last song on their last album. It is so fitting, I have Had the pleasure To see them 22 times In concert, And I don't regret a bit of it. Splendid musicians, A class act. God-bless you Rush
Last song from the album clockwork angels, I suggest reading the book and listening to the album....amazing!

Even three years passed now since Neil's departure this song still brings a tear to my eyes😢 RIP Professor 😔🥁🍁🌹
Me too, maybe it's the violins. 4 years last January. RIP.
A sweet genuine reaction...
😊
I cry every time. Neil's writing is on par with his drumming.
Great Lyrics by Neil Peart. A nice tribute and last song written by RUSH...RIP Neil Peart !!!

It’s ok let it out
why why this song makes me want to cry every time
It made me get teary. Brought back memories and got me thinking future wise. Thank you for watching.
Listen to The Pass by Rush. Truely
I saw RUSH back during "Moving pictures wished I saw them more
I've heard of them, I only really new Tom sawyer I never heard any other song...... But these last two have been really good..

This song is Neil!
In this one of many possible worlds
All for the best or some bizarre test?
It is what it is and whatever
Time is still the infinite jest
The arrow flies when you dream
The hours tick away, the cells tick away
The Watchmaker keeps to his schemes
The hours tick away, they tick away
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect
In the rise and the set of the sun
'Til the stars go spinning
Spinning 'round the night
Oh, it is what it is and forever
Each moment a memory in flight
The arrow flies while you breathe
The hours tick away, the cells tick away
The Watchmaker has time up his sleeve
The hours tick away, they tick away
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect
It's a measure of a life
The treasure of a life
Is a measure of love and respect
The way you live, the gifts that you give
In the fullness of time
Is the only return that you expect
The future disappears into memory
With only a moment between

In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect
It's a measure of a life

I love Kelly! hehe
Great reaction. If you want to hear another life centric profound song from Rush, listen to the song "Losing it", but get the studio version with lyrics so you can read along. (BTW, "The Garden" was the last song on their last album, written by Neil Peart, who passed away in Jan 2020.)

RUSH - Xanadu - Live In Montreal 1981 (2021 HD Remaster 60fps)
Alex Lifeson - 6 string guitar, 12 string guitar, pedal synthesizer, volume pedal; Geddy Lee - Vocals, bass guitar, 6 string guitar, foot pedal synthesizer, electric piano/synthesizer; Neil Peart - Lyrics, Drums, orchestra bells, tubular bells, wind chimes, crotales, timbales, timpani, gong, temple blocks, bell tree, triangle, and melodic cowbells.
Based on Kubla Khan (Xanadu) by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Coleridge composed his poem, ‘Kubla Khan’, in a state of semi-conscious trance either in the autumn of 1797 or the spring of 1798 and published in 1816.

This song epitomizes perfection. It hurts to hear it
RIP Neil 🙏
The Last Rush song. What a way to go out. I believe this is a tribute to Neil's brain cancer.
This I believe was Neil’s swan song…
Love God so His love can flow through you to others. I think that's what this song is about.

@@KellysReactions I am in the province of Manitoba in western Canada. One of the prairie provinces. Waiting for the snow to melt. LOL
@@debbieplato5107 tell me about it, we have rain today melting some of it. 😁
@@KellysReactions We had a small snowstorm yesterday but it is going above freezing tomorrow and up to 10C by next week so hopefully yesterday's snow was winter's last hurrah. 😀
It's ok to be emotional with this song. Actually it's expected.
Best Lifeson guitar solo.
It is a measure of a life. 40 years they dealt with it. What is your measure . I hope it is love.
Hello Kelly😊
Hello😊
At the moment my garden is full of stinging nettles
Other great band from Ontario Canada is Motion Device.
Tracey what would be a great first song to react to of Motion Device? Thanks for watching
I just noticed how much this seems like REM. No, backwards... REM reminds me of Rush, this song anyway.
Geddy's voice ain't what it used..... the man's in his 70s.
This is like a goodbye from Neil, even though at the time he wasn't sick. The forshadowing is crazy.
The last song on the last album great place to start
20 albums
40+ year career
Soundtrack to my life
You asked to for people come your way so let me introduce to another great artist
Try BABYMETAL monochrome the first take then their latest song mirror mirror for contrast

Love every bit of this music video. Except that part during the guitar solo where the camera is looking right up Alex's nostrils. Don't care for that bit. But I love all the rest.
Eivor Palsdottir...Wake Me Up
They both knew Neil was dying and that was his fair well to his friends and fans. RIP Neil and now he has joined his wife and daughter 😢
No, Neil was not diagnosed until YEARS later.
