I just downloaded the first public beta for iOS 18 on my main device from my previously installed latest iOS 17 version and paradoxically my battery life has improved.
@@minimalelementjust be careful man. I had updated to iOS 16 beta on my main device when it came out and it was a wild time. It would crash in some inopportune times too. Trying to listen to music, crash. On a phone call, crash. Trying to enter directions on maps, crash. Look at it a little too funny, crash. I ain’t gonna make that mistake again. I’ll just wait lmao. But maybe this one will be better.
I updated my main device (15 Pro Max) from iOS 17.5.1 to the iOS 18 public beta, and it's quite stable. Everything is working, including my payment apps, UPI, all banking apps, and my work apps. I haven't noticed any battery drain, nor can I say the battery life has improved-it's about the same as before. It's a pretty good update, so if you want to try it, go ahead and update. ✅
I mean you can ….I’m on a 15 pro max as well and I’m on IOS 18 Beta came over from 17.5.1 same as the other guy and no I haven’t really seen too much go wrong with my phone so far it’s does get little warm sometimes and I do get little stutters here and there but no battery 🪫 drain
Battery drain is not as noticeable as the first beta. The only issue I have had has been running previews when I’m coding (I’m an iOS developer), but I’m not even 100% it’s because of the iOS 18 beta or if it’s something else
I read specifically in the Books app! Opening my books is my action button on my iPhone and I love reading on my iPad. Seeing that Line Guide update sounds so sick and can't wait to read with it! Thanks for covering the Books app updates!
18 public beta actually runs more smoothly than any stable version of ios 17 on my base iPhone 13. Some jitters are still present. Home screen takes a second to register swipes after exiting the camera app, keyboard lag still present, lag in control center scrolling present.
Another change I noticed in iOS 18 that’s never been talked about is that when texting a business, you don’t have to click multiple times to select and option. In iOS 17 you had click on a link that opens a page and you can select an option from the list, in iOS 18 the list is shown as a message so you can only have to select the option right away
Am I the only one? Personally I think the WiFi, airdrop etc bubble should be customizable. You should be able to arrange the WiFi etc buttons in the order you want. It’s VERY inconvenient for me that I use frequently my cellular data to have to press the bubble and THEN my cellular or even add an extra bubble just to turn them on
a couple of things I noticed.. when using CarPlay, Sound Recognition turns on automatically on iPhone without any notification, and starts draining battery even faster. Not sure if that's specific to particular car or intentional. Also, the lock screen controls at the bottom now allow for adding Flight Mode as well. While I wouldn't use it myself, when I just tried it for the fun of it, I realised that once put on the lock screen, it can be toggled without Face ID unlock as well, which could be a safety risk.
Public Beta / Dev Beta 3 refresh is 3 builds *later* than the original Dev Beta. For some reason, they reverted the emoji keyboard component in one of them, but It’s not that Pubic “was compiled earlier” -the final digit letter reflects how many times they had to re-package the build, which is made up of many (already compiled & linked) components. So, for example, the original Dev Beta 3 was 22A5307f - that indicates that they put together the first 2A5307 package 5 times until the release criteria were met. For dev beta, the home screen “customize”not working, but having a workaround was acceptable. But for Public beta, it had to work correctly, so they developed a fix, which is a new version of that component, and added that to the 22A5307g build. It took 2 more builds to meet all public beta release criteria - and for some reason, the version of the emoji keyboard component was reverted to the standard version. My guess, having been a Release Manager, is that there was a Release Criterion for public betas based on feedback items, e.g., if there were X times as many negative feedbacks, the component would be reverted.
Hey man idk how to report feedback but the screen time n my settings doesn’t open for about a minute and when it asks me to turn it in it jus kicks me to the Home Screenif you could. report this that would be awesome!
Honestly the leaked specs alone aren't enough to justify the HW bump from 15 PM, but since we're a couple months away from release, I suspect AI will be slightly better so I'm going to upgrade from my iP 12 to the iP 16 PM in a couple months.
My experience has been very normal and surprisingly stable… Once i finished messing around, the battery and all the bugs just disappeared with my day to day use.
When will Apple add a native step counter widget for the Lock Screen? I use a third party one and it does a decent job, but it’s never synced properly with the Apple number.
I updated my phone to the iOS 18 public beta yesterday and my phone has been overheating to even simple tasks since. It drains my battery significantly as well.
One thing I wish we could do in the calendar would the ability to change the colors of each individual date number. My reasoning would be to have the ability to have different colored days for recurring events that doesn’t need any notes. For example set the number colors for work schedules. My wife works with a 2-2-3 schedule. It would be nice to change the number color to reflect the days she works so when an appointment is needed I could see all the days she works so I don’t make appointments on the days she works.
I don’t want to jinx it , but I’ve been running the beta for 5-6 days , and no problems whatsoever, I’m loving it so far! So many useful little updates that have been making my overall experience so much better!
Hi Thanks for the updates! Has anything changed with the ruler or level in iOS 18? Bring back the emoji from before in previous beta 3 was much better!
How do you enable Parallax Effect on the icons on iOS 18? - When Brandon moves the iPhone in his hand the icons slightly have this move effect. I remember they got rid of the Parallax Effect in iOS 16 or something. Is it back in iOS 18 and if yes, how to enable it?
@@BrandonButch I just realized why it wasn't - if you swipe to App Library and come back to Home Screen - the Parallax Effect gets broken and is no longer working. I already reported the bug to apple btw.
Same, some of my contacts open and the others don’t and my insta isn’t loading my gallery. My camera also glitches out and doesn’t take pics of vids. Mines is glitchy af!
I think once more videos on AI on the iPhone 16 come out, more people will actually buy it, most of the features promised haven’t even been shown yet, which makes it hard to buy a phone centered around AI
Oh, and the idea that the last digit in the build number is a quality indicator is kind of an indirect thing - it doesn’t directly indicate quality, but when all the release criteria for a given build are met by say, only 3 integration cycles, that is an indication that overall quality is better than when it took 9 integration cycles. And when you’re talking about operating systems with the installed base the size of iOS, I’m sure one of the showstopper level criteria for general release would be that the build passed everything without a rebuild, e.g. only one build - the “a” build.
Hi Brandon. Great videos man. Wondered if you could do a video explaining the battery section in settings? I’d say it’s self explanatory but hopefully I’m not alone in thinking it is a bit confusing with regards to the graphs and average screen on! Thanks!
I purchased the new iPad Air to take advantage of the new AI when they come. My sons are waiting for 16 to update their 13 iPhones. Obviously interest can be generated from the hardware and software side depending on the updates. For me the device has to be able to handle the software but it is the software that creates the experience.

How come when sending multiple pictures it’s not in a group style anymore? It sent individually like I’m send one picture at a time? Or is that just to android phones?
I’m personally only upgrading to the iPhone Pro models this year is because the bigger screen I do a lot of handheld gaming and that almost 7 inch screen will go awesome with my Game Pass streaming
the motion cue alert is actually very annoying. when I'm in the passenger seat, every time the car stops it'll show the alert that it's disabled, then show the enabled alert when the car moves again. like.. I can see that it's been enabled... thanks... 😅
@@N-mj15 hmmm that's interesting. I let it on auto, so it turns on when it detects car motion. But I would expect it to keep on or at least not show the notification when it's just a quick stop
Anyone else is having issues with the phone app? The badge says I have 4 notifications, but when I open the phone app, there’s nothing to check. I tried restarting my phone and all the settings, but it’s still showing the same thing. When I check my voicemails, there’s nothing there.
Has anybody noticed if you can turn off the dark area at the. Bottom for apps? It would be cool if Apple would make that area clear like the rest of the screen, esp since you can puts apps anywhere now.
The airtag story raises a question I've been pondering for a while. The recent change that alerts people when an unassociated airtag is moving with them, whether via Apple or Android, would seem to reduce the likelihood of thieves being tracked. Won't the thieves, who one assumes would typically have a phone, get alerted to the presence of an airtag and be able to locate it? The smashed airtags in your story may be a result of that (or they may just have spotted them). I suppose it's an inevitable trade-off between trying to track lost/stolen items and having an anti-stalking technology. Or am I completely misunderstanding how this stuff works?
Yeah that's the compromise. The anti-stalking feature is necessary for people's safety. That's why some people choose to remove the speaker from AirTags they use to track their high value items, so that if an item is stolen the thief won't be able to find the AirTag by sound, they'd have to manually search for it.
Has anyone else been experiencing their phone heating up? My phone has been getting very very warm over basic usage. Multiple times per day. On my iPhone 14 Pro Max
The letter absolutely has nothing to do with the stability of the respective build. I mean it obviously gets closer to ‘A’ the closer we get to the 2nd-3rd week of September, which is when iOS 18 will be released.
Awesome Brandon,Love your videos, can’t wait for iOS 18 to release in September, also yes I think software can definitely lead to more sales for a iPhone, maybe not in the past but with AI there is a huge chance.
Software SuperCycle=Yes. I will upgrade all my devices only due to the new iOS18 Notes app which will feature nested headlines which my current devices don't support iOS18 and hope that this feature is expanded, refined and also brought back to Pages too.

i was in ios 17 and suddenly my wifi started going slow on only my iphone cutting off and on and tiktok/instagram videos showing in low quality, reset everything still happens , so backed up phone , updated to beta 17. what ever tf 17.6 , works for about 10 mins and wifi disconnect again, factory reset and updating my phone to 18 hopefully it works lol
Regarding upgrade incentive. I currently have a 12 pro. The only things that will induce me to upgrade will be significant camera improvements OR significant software features. AI is one of these features , but is not enough on its own (especially as I will get it on my MacBook). I am not remotely interested in physical appearance.
I’ve had more bugs on the beta 3 re-release than the first two betas. But hey, it is an “i“ now. Watch battery on beta 3 significantly worse than beta 2 also.
If the iPhone 'x' was the first phone able to run software that turns AirPods into hearing aids, I would buy that iPhone though only after you reviewed and recommended both the feature and the phone.
is your battery life really the same? i have a new 14 plus. battery life on 17 feels amazing, when i went to 18 public beta it almost lost half its performance, battery life and startet getting insanely hot while charging. i thought i bricked my phone but went back to 17 with itunes and everything is good again.
15 pro. This 18.0 has been terrible for me. Lock screen notifications haven’t not glitched once. But easy fix by turning off and on. And lots of small problems and lags etc. everything important has been fine though. Also another gripe is I don’t have dark mode icons on but the notifications symbol and the app icon in control centre notifs, etc everything other than the home screen does still do the tint when it’s dark/evening
Honestly, I think it could go either way and it could be both sometimes it could be either or like like you said for physical and not performance sometimes it could be the other way around or sometimes it could be both generally I think it depends on the user
Physical changes in design for sure are more likely to cause a super cycle than software changes. Everyone can see physical design changes easily just by looking or staring at the device, software changes on the other hand require users to explore their phones before they can be discovered. Most people that carry high end iphones in their pockets don't even know up to half of the functionalities and features of their phones, let alone use it. While there will be people (like me, lol) who will definitely upgrade their phones because of these new software features, the number is nowhere significant enough to cause a super cycle like a physical design change would. My take btw
I’m on iPhone 13. Had to factory reset without restore because my backup contains a bug it carried from my old device that can’t detect OTA updates. Updated, and very satisfied. First iOS x.0 beta that I have very minimal issues with. It’s not that much buggier than 17.5.1, and surprisingly my battery life improved a bit. I hope this year we’ll get a very solid upgrade.

@@jennnotavenndiagram3561 ah a sophisticated sense of humor!
Or sense of humour, as I might write it 😂
Anyone struggling with CarPlay not playing any sound after the iOS 18 beta update ?
I really like your Wallpaper, does someone know where is ut from?

Always was
@@cosmic_gate476the size of an app icon? I know you can do a widget.
I can’t stand on my iPad if I turn it off, the sound stops working even on the public beta
iPhone 13. Upgraded to the beta a few days ago. Apps are sometimes crashing, settings is laggy, but other than that I dont notice a fall in quality
is your battery life really the same?
i have a new 14 plus.
battery life on 17 feels amazing, when i went to 18 public beta it almost lost half its performance, battery life and startet getting insanely hot while charging.
i thought i bricked my phone but went back to 17 with itunes and everything is good again.
beta 4 downloading
15 pro. This 18.0 has been terrible for me. Lock screen notifications haven’t not glitched once. But easy fix by turning off and on. And lots of small problems and lags etc. everything important has been fine though.
Also another gripe is I don’t have dark mode icons on but the notifications symbol and the app icon in control centre notifs, etc everything other than the home screen does still do the tint when it’s dark/evening
i'm curious about my 12 mini can handle ios 18 as it's already showing its aging
Public Beta been surprisingly stable on both my 15 PM and M3 MB Pro
Ever since this beta program my messages won’t send popups
On my iPhone luckily everything has just been perfect on my phone
Siri was a super cycle
im ready for the public relese
Honestly, I think it could go either way and it could be both sometimes it could be either or like like you said for physical and not performance sometimes it could be the other way around or sometimes it could be both generally I think it depends on the user
I don’t call that up to date your like a month late on the beta update
I cant open screentime on pb ios 18
