- Ball bearings are an amazing piece of technology, we can found them in almost any mechanical machine, and inside them you'll find perfectly round metal balls, the essence of stop motion joints. So I decided to use one of them and convert it into a double ball and socket stop motion joint. What an interesting challenge...

Wow! Thanks to Edu, I was able to make one metal joint today as well. Bearings are part of my overhauled motorcycle engine.
Good to be back! Do you think this makes sense? From what other object could we make joints from?
Barbell Earringsss!
While not the most efficient approach, a wood armature would be interesting to see! Many years ago I tried something similar with popsicle sticks, and small decorative wooden balls I got from a crafts shop. Movement was surprisingly smooth, but holding strength was nothing to call home about.
That’s an awesome shot straight down on the belt sander.
I’ve wanted to do this for years - thank you for sharing, friend. Your work is brilliant.
Your machining skills are awesome!
Wonderful! Takes so much time just to make 1 unit. Thank you for sharing.
Wow!
There’s an easier way to get ball bearings , you can get them from , Angling Centers, - shooting, Slingshot, ammo, (ball bearings)
Also from bicycle/motorcycle repairing shops
This is so helpful and practical! Thank you for making this video, Edu!
Respect.
Great info in this video! But that shot with the grinding @4:17 is just amazing! A++!
Thanks for all your videos! They've really helped give me ideas for my own projects.
Wow you'll always be good at this!!! I don't really use machines for making mine.
Edu Puertas back!!! Great video. Loved all the macro shots of sanding and cutting.
Thanks, wanted to shoot more macro and that was an opportunity
Thank you Edu!
Such metal bodies in silicone figures. The joints will loosen very quickly
Very interesting idea... with ball bearings
watch out for those fingers! brilliant.
sheesh! that work was so clean and satisfying to watch ahaha
I think rotary tumbler would be nice machine for cleaning sharp edges from small parts. Keep up the good work.
Feliz de que estes de vuelta
Super. Gracias
excelente trabajo Saludos desde Argentina
Excellent Ed!! Have you looked at trying threaded ball and rods found in the body piercing industry, you can get so many bar lengths and ball sizes for really cheap and just braze the balls to the rods!! then making the joint plates is all you would need to do after that. I use them and it saves so much time!
Hey, I know them, actually I don't do what you see in the video, it's just a challenge. I don't like so much silver soldering so I turn the balls in the lathe, that's my way, but piercing parts are a smart way to do it. See you
wonderful
amazing idea
Edu est le mieux! the best! now if i can just start my own project...
Very Good idea
How're you ? I miss you friend. Glad to see you again.
you work so well!!! I have already tried such things but not with the same result :-) Thanks for sharing your experience. I will try again and again :-)
Thank you so much :) this was enlightening
Welcome back Edu. Lovely work as always. For a moment. It looked like we’d both given up... I’ll be back soon 👍🏻
never surrender, waiting for your updates ;)
Edu puertas you speak spanish?
@@edupuertasfruns ???
Very innovative my dude 😎. Love your videos
don't know if innovative, it came to my mind late night thinking in the parts in a joint and having a bearing nearby.
Muito bom!
Awesome!!
Yes my Dream come true a new Video XD
wow... this is gorgeous!
Awesome
I do not speak English well, but I want to express my huge respect for such a life hack !!! I have been following your work for a long time, and I am embarrassed to write you any review, due to not knowing the language. Thank you for the fascinating and informative channel! This version of the manufacture of swivel joints is just super !!!! How long did it take you to make this swivel?
Hi, thanks for following me. I spend one day to make the hole thing plus recording it, that actually takes a lot more time.
Insane, sir! this is the best thing. you deserve some real basmati :)
Hi sir, we miss you. Rice in here will always be "no bueno" compared to your real basmati. Jaja
@@edupuertasfruns hahaha! the world surely need to know abt real deal. :) your videos are always inspiring for me. Thank you so much for sharing this ball bearing. I'll try this soon. awaiting your next video. Cheers!
I had an idea to try this with barring balls ! I love these bulid videos they are inspiring and helpful!!!
Also you can remove the barring shield by decrimping with a razor blade and sane with the cage , then just push all the balls to one side and it'll all be appart.
! EXELENTE CANAL ! 💯👍🇦🇷⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
good
I like
Nice! Always cool to see a new video from you in my sub. feed :)
Muy bueno
Nice work
Damn, that was hella way to use a chunk of solder to stick the balls with the nail.
Glad your back! You got that awesome shiny new machine... and now i bet it takes all your time! :) You seem to see possibilities in things I take for granted, like I never would have thought to turn a bearing into a joint. But... a full day for one joint?! Still, makes me think how to find other useful ideas for SM video production. Please keep inspiring us with your videos!
Yes I try to feed that machine with fresh metal every week. Of course that video is not the way to mass produce joints, but a challenge to try things and improve skills
@@edupuertasfruns the machine craves flesh!
Final yessss
SENCILLITO!!!
Hello,
What is the name of the liquid you apply in 2.50 minutes?
What do you put on the tip of the nail in 5.30 minutes?
Thank you
The first liquid is just cutting oil and the second one you ask is flux to silver solder the part in the rod
👏👏👏
A bit out of my league but fantastic none the less.
super crack!
😘
What temperature (roughly) do the balls have to reach to soften them? Do they have to just change colour to blue or go even red?
Don't have a way to mesure temperature, around 1000 degrees, if you want metal to soften completely you need to go red and leave it cool slowly
Gracias.
how did you connect the details
What is the name of the liquid you put in at 6.05 minutes? I will be very happy if you answer
just watter
Awesome video!!! Realy inspiring! Do you think 3d printed joints could work?
Till metal reaches this technology in cheap, would be hard to beat machined parts
far freaking out
GUZEL VE ENTERASAN BIR CALISMA TEBRIKLER
Wow,, you can saw that bearing, congrats 😢
It may be easier to just buy the chrome steel ball bearings? 100 for $2.83USD? But it was very cool to see you made it from scratch, impressive. BTW love ur TH-cam :-)
The harder the better 🤣.
Hola Edu.
On aliexpress, they sell m4 threaded balls for 3D printers.
They sell threaded M4 rods of various lengths too! I got both and used threadlocker. There's even a seller on Aliexpress which sells armatures that were apparently made with these. Just need a good solution on plates, though. I had some from years ago that I machined from aluminum as a test but apparently it's not the best material for this and movement doesn't feel smooth enough.
They are also ebay for 16 for $1
But they are 10 mm.
There is an ebay seller morezmore who selles m2 m3 6mm threaded balls and 3m 8mm and plates too.
What solder is? 5:22 And flux.
Is ballbearing stronger and durable than other materials?
Without heat treatment that metal is stronger than my drill bits. Apart from this I would always get metal from square stock to make plates
What the use of it?
Hi bro plz tell which material you used for soldering. I mean explain soldering plz for me. I'm stopmotion animator and following you from long time
I used silver, to "weld" the metal
I can get these ball bearings from an unused fidget spinner
please let me know what type of drill bits you are using.
i tried hard with my steel drill bit. but no luck. 😥
No special ones, low speed and right steel or heat treat it to be able to drill
thanks a lot.. ❤ by the way. you are so talented with stop motion and im on the way following you.. 😇❤
What kind of welding material did you use for the balls?
Silver
Thanks man
@@RealformStudioXR you can get them form Angling Centres , shooting, slingshot - ammo.
@@lasarith2 Thanks :)
Czy możesz mi polecić aparat fotograficzny do animacji? Z możliwością podłączenia do komputera. I jaki obiektyw? Pozdrawiam. Oglądam Cię od dawna. Brawo.
but why tho?
If you have access to a 3D printer, perhaps try printing the pieces for an armature.
How about the lead balls from fishing department ? Disclaimer just don't breathe it or eat it
Too soft for that aplication
Y eso para q sirve??
Make ball joints, with This money saving hack,!!
First you'll need $10,000 worth of tools, lmao
I'll sell my two files, a drill press, Dremel and disk sander for 10k whenever you want to buy. I'll even give you a blow torch for free -___- And before you start yelling that it isn't a drill press, think about what is there that you couldn't do with a drill press
Para que serve isso afinal
Es una articulación para puppets
Y eso sirve para.......????
Es una articulación para muñecos animados
One question: Why?
why not?
because sitting in front of the TV instead is bad for you
What didi yu do
Hi brother great idea. The ball from the bearing is perfect. But the side plates are tough for normal people with minimal gears. Can you check if the segments of a bike chain which already has two openings which may be able to hold the ball and make a centre hole for the screw. And please get me the link to buy those screws. I don't know what they called as. Thank you
Bike chains have been all time go to for rig joints. They are much bigger than what I am doing though
@@edupuertasfruns okay Bro, i thought to give it a try with the bike chain links. No tutorials found anywhere in TH-cam about it sadly. Can you at least tell me what's the ratio of the ball and its respective hole size? The default hole on my bike chain is 6mm for example. What should be the ball size i should opt for? Thanks for reading at least.
By feeling here, for a 6mm hole at least 8-9 mm ball and 4-5mm rod to the ball
@@edupuertasfruns i wonder how selfless you are! And is it necessary to make a screw hole into each balls? Can we just weld the rod directly into balls? I'm from India. We hardly have such lathe shops anywhere near. I want my puppet to do yoga. 😝
If you have a torch you can change ball property and drill it with power drill
Please wear gloves 🧤 to keep your hands protected when dealing with these machines
What?
So, the moral of the story is... throw all that stuff away and open your wallet and get someone else to make those for you :)
But…why??
because one night I had this idea and it was a good challenge for me
