every single one of these ropes impressed me. but the spider web is like a dream come true. i didn't know they made those. it not only lives up to its fame, but looks hauntingly beautiful. i couldn't bring myself to actually use that. i'd hang it for display.
Yes but the steel rope was tested as a single line, whereas all the other ropes were tested as double lines- halving the tensile stress compared to steel at the same load.
@@stephenrhoades8686No, no, the test was cool and you can see that good quality materials will support more, but in terms of position it was undefined, if you pay attention, the breaks happen at the points where the knot caused structural damage, thus reducing the capacity of the rope, there are other types of knot that would be more suitable for this test. but it's always good to see a hydraulic press breaking things.
@@demervalaugustodacunha1954the fact the web isn't weakened by knots as much is also another reason why it's better though, and even if you assume perfection for steel, it'd be weaker still, even if only by a couple hundred kilograms In this example, it's 3.5 times as strong as the steel rope, so even if the steel rope is weakened to a third of its abilities, spider webs is still stronger. Don't get me wrong, steel not stretching is a massive bonus over spider web, along with being much much cheaper to produce and distribute, since steel rope can be made anywhere with steel, instead of at spider silk farms or wherever they get it from.
@@BisexualPlagueDoctor the metal rope had just one line, while the others divided the force into 2 lines, which certainly changes the result severely, I don't know if it would be stronger or not, but I can't know since the knots used didn't take it into account the characteristics of the ropes, such as alpine ropes, which typically do not hold well in this type of knot, slipping much more than the others, causing more structural damage.
Nah I'm a Civil Engineer, the larger the diameter the better it will sustain tension, larger diameter are more ductile. The stresses in the steel rope will be thoroughly distributed if it's thicker in size meaning it can handle a lot more tension 😊
2:20 The steel was tested in a single rope, the other materials the load was distributed in two ropes. For comparison, it should double the value of the metal.
On the sling band you have a problem causing faulty result. The bottom ring contact area has extra tension concentration in the edges of belt, failing it too soon.
i see a common mistake here, people say for nothing because it means "de nada" in spanish, but that is wrong, you should say "you're welcome", that is the correct translation 👍
Finally ! Brother proved that I am safe for zip lining in picnics from my school.😄 I used to thought I will fall in mid way but brother proved me I am safe now Bye the way the rope I am talking about is climbing rope Brother satisfied my heart ❤❤❤
The knot opening up allows for the ropes to survive a bit longer. The test should only test the strength of the material not the tightness of the knot.
I couldn't find any source to buy it, where did you get it? Can someone provide me with actual link where I can get some spider silk stuff in such quantities (not 1-2 grams, but like the whole ass rope)
Please look into the proper way to apply cable clamps. You should never saddle a dead horse is the saying I was taught to remember what line the clamp saddle straddles. (It's the live or long 4:39 line) and what line the clamp tensioner or horse, straddles. (The dead or short line) they should never be alternated. But your channel is great I always stop and watch for you. Thank you
Fun fact: while climbing rope can hold average weight of human, it wont strong anymore if you step on it (it may seems normal when stepped but the inside already cut)
It’s because when u put alot of silk together it’s stronger. Thats also why people say spider silk is stronger than steel. Fox example if u make a piece of steel as thin as a spiders web the spiders web will technically be stronger. There is a reason a have a degree in yapolgy🙃
Get one of the ropes and put it in the hydraulic press but dont break it just let the knot it had in it get REALLY tight and then ask someone to untie it for you
Spider silk is one of the strongest naturally occurring substances in the world. I already know that spider rope is gonna be chilling. Edit: Yup. A rope that needs 14.5k kilos (That’s almost 32k lbs for all of you Americans like me) to snap is definitely a pretty damn good rope.
..But they do! They take the silk from sleeping spiders and (this could be funny but im to stupid to make it) make breakfast that exploades like water in a casket.
Knoten schwäche das Seil und reduzieren die Bruchlast. Spezielle Kletter- bzw. Seeknoten reduzieren die Bruchlast nicht, bzw. kaum und hätten bessere Ergebnisse erzielt. Z.B. doppelter Achterknoten
