When you say performance if you are talking about speed then on quads there are things you can do like changing your wheel bearings for ones that go faster. I love the aesthetics of quads but, when in doubt go with your gut instinct when making a choice😊💕
Alexis Thora thanks! I ended a ordering a nice pair of quads for beginners, and I’m looking to get some better bearings to install :) And yeah, I pretty much just meant the speed
Same! With skates I felt like my back/front balance was thrown off but with inline skates I felt it was similar balancing on high heels which just made it seem “easier” to me
I’m hearing this quite a bit, I think it comes down to how you carry and transfer your weight. It took me a little while to figure that out. I hope you are enjoying your skates whether they are in-line or quads 😊 thanks for sharing!
I prefer my Inline speed over any other skates. I agree with your last point, any kind of skating is very good medicine when it comes to stress & anxiety.
I have quads in a good condition and I'm trying to sell them I have rode them only 2 times if you want to bay them for 30 dollars (I can lower it)I have got then for 50 dollars and they are good quality!
Me too! Ordered them yesterday. My ankles kinda suck so I think the added balance of the quad wheels are gonna help me out. Haven’t skated in 12 years!
@BapsH It’s awesome that you are getting back into it! Try some ankle stretches and strengthening movements off your skates it will definitely help you when your on them. 😊
luckyy, mine was in a bad state, it was pretty heavy, loose on my feet, and it's a mess in the inside.. but i still play with it, i've been saving my money for a new one :)
So many people say this! Try looking up artistic inlines they are inline skates that look like roller/ice skate boot. Which ever skate you like make sure you read the reviews before purchasing 😊 Glad you like the video, thanks for checking it out!
For most people, the best advice is to pick what you like. Personally, I like the feeling of standing on tight rope or ice skate. I picked a rollerblade with purpose of aggressive skate. Doesn’t matter too much.
Thanks for checking out the video Sean, I really appreciate it 😊. You are absolutely right you should definitely pick what you like after all it is your life so do what makes you happy.
Opposite for me. As a kid I used both. Stopped skating for 20 years. Picked up inlines again and had no problem, it was easy to get back into it. Recently got quads thinking they would be easier and nope I was so wrong. I'm surprised at how much I'm struggling with quads lol.
Thanks for checking out the video kiploca I really appreciate it 😊 Quite a few people say this. I think it comes down to how you transfer your weight in your feet. If you don’t mind sharing what do you find you struggle with most?
@@AlexisThora No problem. Great video btw. They feel more slippery and I lose my balance more easily. I'm way more shaky on them than on my rollerblades. I've been practicing though, as I do want to get better at them. I was really surprised but I see that a lot of people in the comments are on the same boat lol. Just depends on the person I guess.
Yea same...As a kid inline was my go to...and I stopped for at least 15-10 yrs once my aunt threw them away.....I tried the 4 and I've never felt to unbalanced and scared to skate and everyone told me it was easier. I just bought a pair of inline recently and complete opposite..lol
i actually think inline skates are actually much easier than roller skates. roller-skates are kind of slippery while while inline skates are much easier to get on and ride and don't worry about color and stuff because there are a lot of cute and colorful inline skates like mine
I got quads after having inlines for years and I have to say, there’s really nothing like the feeling of inlines. They’re just so smooth compared to quads, and the speed is just not the same. Quads are so so cute but I’m an inline girl all the way 😂💕
I have a very important question PLEASE ANSWER. Is there a difference with turning? I skate inline and it takes a few seconds to turn while I see people with quads being able to spin no problem. It’s harder to turn or steer with inlines for me and I was wondering if there’s the same case with quads?
@@Diana-kk6qz Ive noticed spinning on quads tends to be easier because you’re on more wheels, but on inlines you can spin faster I think. But if you’re talking about turning turning, like left or right, I haven’t noticed a huge difference between the two. Although if anything I’d say i have more control with my inlines.
I love my inlines! Started skating in April and suddenly grew a butt, lol! Seriously though they're an awesome workout. I also practice slalom which is a kind of inline skate dance sport with cones. So many tricks, slides, and fun stuff you can learn with inline skates/rollerblades. Higher end inlines also have a ton of configurations you can make by changing wheel sizes and frames, so you can turn your skates into so many different things (attach an ice skate blade, 3 big wheels for trails, rockered wheels for slalom/dance). Maybe I'll try quads some day but for now I am in love with mine!
@@joycecita what seriously? Like quads are much easier. Also quads kinda look dumb. I hate that stereotype that all girls choose quads and guys only ever skate on inlines. I'm a female and I love my inlines. Inlines are harder they're literally like ice skates just for skating on concrete, but also inlines are so much better than quads. Also you can do lots of different things with inlines. Quads are more for skating parties and roller derby, and Inlines can be used like anywhere. It depends on the kind of inlines, but you can do aggressive skating, speed skating, slalom.
After 4 long months of waiting...I finally received my Moxi Beach Bunnies 2 weeks ago. I love them! Nobody I know skates, so I've been doing it solo. Right now I'm practicing on my spins. Skating is a great hobby. Great review!👌🏾
Yes, rollerblading is a whole body workout. I'm fortunate to have both for decades although I've only recently learned about adjusting my roller skates for which I have both indoor & outdoor wheels. Crazy... I skated with skates that were tighten to much for years. 🤦
First off, thank you so much for making an informative video and really getting into detail as to what each one does. You’ve solidified my wish to have roller skates added to my arsenal of fun outdoor things to do! Second, I love how you don’t forget to talk about accommodations that need to be made, such as loosening the trucks. I never would have done so if you hadn’t mentioned it!
I have K2 rollerblades so similar to yours (got them on a super discount years ago when a local Sports Authority was going out of business), and lately I've been trying to buy the Moxi Beach Bunny in the exact same color you have. I can't believe I found a video comparing the EXACT skates I have/want. This was so so helpful, and it felt like a miracle to find
It is so crazy when coincidences like that happen, it’s like “ok internet you can stop knowing everything about me now” lol. I hope you get your hands on a pair of Beach Bunny’s soon. I’m glad it helped 😊
Roller skates are definitely a workout too! I'm not sure about rollerblades (I only tested for a few minutes - my balance was definitely off but it was MUCH easier to make a turn in rollerblades imo) but at least with roller skates I burn a lot of calories.. I've been skating 1 hour per day for 25 days now and my legs are rock hard again after not going to the gym for a year due to the pandemic and I felt like I lost weight! But I'm definitely thinking about getting roller blades too haha
I’ve been a skier since I was 3 years old and even though I haven’t done much of either, I’ve always found that rollerblades were MUCH easier than roller skates for me. I was able to pick up rollerblading right away with a fast learning curve and retain my ability after years of not touching skates, but I’ve tried roller skating multiple times for hours at a time and with little time in between sessions and still I have yet to find my balance on them. I think the way skiers and rollerbladers engage their ankles and core strength and balance are very similar and I assume it’s the same thing with ice skaters so if you do either of those, rollerblading may actually be easier for you.
Thanks for sharing! I was making my recommendation based on someone with no experience with either but, totally should have taken into account that people have experience and backgrounds with similar sports/activities 😊
I miss rollerblading! Too bad I can’t do that anymore with my injury. I never could figure out how to balance on the quads. I used to rollerblade on my driveway & change the wheels & go the the rink every Friday! To bad none of my school friends went skating and all the kids there were from a different school! I was too shy to talk to them! I just liked the skating & listening to the music!
i don’t have blades yet but i have to say quads can give you a pretty good workout too depending on what you do with them. practicing certain skills repeatedly (esp with few breaks) can definitely get me out of breath, and also i would argue that because blades are faster and have smaller contact points with the ground, quads actually work you out more when pushing over paths with debris and/or for long distances. i definitely get out of breath on quads going on trails with debris, even with outdoor wheels. another important point imo is that quads can be easily adapted to different disciplines just by changing the wheels, so there’s a lot less commitment to one type of skating in that regard. you could get a different set of wheels and pretty much be all good to go if you want to get into a new type of skating (park skating, jam/dance skating, etc.), whereas with inlines you often need removable frames to be able to switch things up, and you won’t find recreational inlines with removable frames (though you can find good inline skates with removable frames in the $170-$200+ price range - just not rec skates). also, to get a bit technical, quads have great lateral stability, so that’s a big reason bladers and people who are new to skating may feel quads are “more stable,” but quads also have less longitudinal stability because the wheelbase is shorter from front to back (in traditional setups). this means it’s easier to slip backwards or forwards on quads than on inlines. also! looks like you have your toe caps installed incorrectly - you want the toe stop nut to be closer to the plate than the toe cap so that the toe cap won’t get caught in the toe stop housing and cause stripping (which could eventually make your toe stops fall out). so in other words the toe cap is sandwiched between the toe stop nut and the toe stop itself. you may have already learned these things since this video was posted but i hope this helps someone!
I appreciate that you took the time to write this out 😊 Great advice imo! Since posting this video I don’t skate with any toe stop because I’m really enjoying jam skating and if I become interested in park I will put them in. Hope you have a great day!! Happy skating ⚡️💕
This is really interesting, I want to learn and know nothing at this point ! I hope you don’t mind me asking if You have any recommendations for skates and if you think 3 wheel skates are good? :)
@@farcrazy99 i don’t mind at all! it really depends on what kind of skating you want to do, and whether you want to potentially expand into other types of skating. first of all i will address your question about 3 wheel skates, sometimes called tri skates: they are faster than inline skates with 4 wheels bc of less contact area with the ground (so less friction), but bc of the 3 large wheels replacing 4 smaller wheels, you have a taller but shorter wheelbase. this means you’re higher off the ground and also have less longitudinal stability, so you are at greater risk of falling forwards or backwards than with a 4-wheel setup. the taller wheels (or you could say greater diameter, same thing here) are also the reason they are faster than 4-wheel skates. because of the shorter wheelbase, greater wheel height/diameter, and greater maximum speed, tri skates are not recommended for beginners who have not already established basic balance on inline skates. technically it is doable for beginners, but the learning curve would just be steeper. there are different kinds of inline skates in general. inlinewarehouse.com (the sort of sibling company to derby warehouse) has a basic rundown of it here: www.inlinewarehouse.com/fitlc/skates/inline-skate-buying-guide.html but long story short, if you are sure you only want to do recreational skating, recreational skates with soft boots, similar to the ones shown in this video, are fine (e.g. brands like K2). on the other hand, if you’re pretty sure you want to eventually expand into maybe “aggressive inline” (aka park skating) and/or slalom and/or freestyle etc., then i would recommend a skate with a hard boot. usually “urban” skates are good for multiple styles, but inline warehouse’s categories of “slalom” or “freestyle” will also work. brands i’d suggest include flying eagle, FR/seba, powerslide, and micro. i just got the flying eagle f5s eclipse skates, my first pair of inline skates. i didn’t wanna spend too much, but i wanted a quality pair that i could eventually use for multiple purposes, and the f5s fit the bill perfectly for me. the frames are removable, and the front and back wheels have optional rockering, which means i can raise them a few mm in order to have more maneuverability (which also comes with a tradeoff of less stability, so i will wait to do that until i’ve mastered the traditional flat setup). there’s also a soul plate + frame kit that is compatible with these so that i could eventually turn them into “aggressive”/park skates. the frames are also laterally adjustable, meaning i can move them a few mm to the inside or outside edge of the boot to center them correctly for my feet (the inline warehouse youtube channel has a video on this in a bit more detail). these are not necessary features for beginners, but they are good to keep in mind if you do plan on doing more than recreational skating. another thing to keep in mind is that many urban/freestyle/slalom skates don’t tend to come with a heel brake, but usually you can get one to put on them. it will just not come automatically included, unlike with most recreational skates. i hope that helps you! if not, or if some bits i didn’t explain very clearly, then the subreddit r/rollerblading also has a lot of information, and also no one will judge you for asking “beginner” questions on there. other youtube channels about inline skating can help you out too! i hope you have fun doing any type of skating, whether quad, inline, ice, or otherwise; skating is the best!
This was so helpful, thank you so much!! I really wanna get into skating, especially since I never got to do it as a kid, but I couldn't decide whether I wanted to get inline skates or quad skates as my first pair. While I love the aesthetic with quad skates, I've been told from many people in my day-to-day life that I should get inline. I've been looking up the pros and cons for each and I think I'm going to go with inline skates. I'm a high school student so I don't have enough money to get both right now (though funny enough I'm starting my first job today). Again, thank you so much for this video, even though it's been almost a year since you posted it. I plan on documenting my skating journey once I get the skates through live streams and videos and I'm so excited. I know this is a long comment but I just needed to put my appreciation into words.
Thank you for sharing that with me! I’m glad you were able to find the video helpful. Hopefully you’ve been able to get your skates and are ready to tear it up this summer 😊
I grew up mostly using rollerblades. I tried roller skates recently (for the first time in about 10 years) and really liked it! I've been working on both a lot recently, and I feel like the biggest difference is that on rollerblades, you're on the edge of you're wheels all the time, but on roller skates, you're never on the edge of the wheels (and if you are, that's bad). For me that's been the biggest adjustment between the two. That and the difference in how you balance on each one 😅😅😅
I've always been a quad skater, but because I can also ice skate, did not find inlines difficult. I prefer quads. By the time in line roller skates became a thing in the mid/late 80's I was already years into wearing quads. We were also more into rink skating, and quads were the only option if you were renting skates for the session.
Ya I understand you with that. It’s like with roller skates it’s easier to fall forward or backwards depending where you are putting your weight. I hope you learn skates soon too! Let me know how it goes 😊
I recently got back into blading after years of absence. I forgot how much fun and a great workout they are. I have always been a big fan of the K2s and had to dig up my old K2 Fatty's to take them to the skate park.
I've only ever had rollerblades since I was little, but I've also been seeing all the cool people doing tricks on rollerskates so I'm getting a pair! I'm nervous cause I've heard people say that if you switch is like learning all over again but we'll see :)
Literally same! I’ve had rollerblades as a kid and I’ve been recently getting back into them and now I’m thinking of getting a pair of skates as well because it looks really fun
I had rollerblades as a kid and would go all the time. As an adult I bought rollerskates instead and it did take me awhile to get used to, but now I'm better at rollerskating then I ever was blading as a kid. For me the biggest thing was learning how to balance on skates vs. blades
As a kid, I learned the ways of the blade, hehe. But then I also got skates for a birthday or Xmas or something. Now, I'm slowly, veeeeery slowly trying to get back into it, just as a way to get in some exercise, fresh air, and sunlight. I did have to get new rollerblades, tho. The old ones no longer fit my feet. :P
With inline, it's not just the bearings that help you develop the speed, but more the height of the wheel and surface contact of the wheel which reduces friction.
Thank you, I came to say this. Also, just because your bearings free spin doesn't mean they are good. Take a bearing and clean it out and watch how well it spins before it's greased. Skate wheels don't free spin in the wild, they turn with massive pressure on them. Sure, bearings that are oiled spin a little more freely than greased bearings, but you'll never notice, especially in a recreational setting.
I haven’t in-line skate since I was a kid but as an adult before the pandemic hit I got into rollerskating… now I live back in rural oklahoma and have been wanting to try some inlines to go over these crappy roads we have here
I found it quite difficult going from roller skates to roller blades because roller blades don't turn easily. In fact they feel more like ice skates which I also find difficult to control in turns. And Rollerblades are faster because of the wheel shape and diameter and configuration, not the bearings. Very many roller blades and roller skates use the exact same bearings or bearings of equivalent quality. Very nice and informative video.
I just got my Chaya’s in the mail, but for the past year plus I’ve been rollerblading every other day. It’s good to know that I can’t expect to go as far or as fast on my new skates as I can on my roller blades. Thanks for this video!! You are so awesome 🛼
I like rollerskates for doing dance skating and like tricks like 360s, manuals, etc because thats just that I started with. And I got inlines for like mainly trail skating but also could do some tricks.
Istarted with inline skates and loved them, but found that they exacerbated my flat feet problems, causing a lot of pain. Quads solved this completely for me, I can wear my medical insoles, and now i don't ever want to go back. Now I'm quad only :)
That is so good to know. Thanks for sharing! I have flat feet as well and I get shin splints with in-lines but, until I saw this comment it didn’t register to me that I haven’t had pain with my quads!
Wow! I also have flat feet. Good to know. This makes my decision easier. Seems like I'll be going with rollerskates! Thanks for sharing and great video, Alexis!
I learned to skate with the REALLY old kind you strapped to your shoes with the metal wheels my parents bought at a garage sale. I never did learn how to inline skate and I have always wanted too. I want to take my dogs running and I want to skate to work.
hi! i just wanted to ask, ive been ice skating since i was little, and im fairly good at it, but i want to know if i should still go for the quads (the one that i think would be more ideal for me). i figured a blade on a roller blade and a blade on an ice skate may be slightly different, so i was just wondering. thank you! have a great day :)
It depends on the brand. I’m in the process of buying new K2s and for that I can get the same size as my shoe. I wish sizes were universal across all brands it would make it a lot easier especially with shopping online.
This video is very informative. I haven't roller blades since we'll the 90s I had the Wayne Gretzky edition that they would sell at target back in the day, I had bought some roller skates a couple of years ago and I have fallen down a lot and I mean ALOT lol but that was on me ,I didn't do my research and got be some roller derby type roller skates with the thick wheels like they have for long boards and some pretty expensive and very awesome bearings that made the wheels spin for almost forever, so with that said I can go NYOOM on my roller skates and was not expecting that, they are flat with no raised heel, but I can easily go from cement to skating on the road, but definitely I feel like more maintenance is involved with roller skates than roller blades. But in the end it was still fun and now after seeing this video I will check out some of those roller blades you were talking about
When switching from blades to skates I found myself tripping on the toe stop, as i was used to just barrelling forward. What’s your tip on transitioning between the two?
Great question! In my experience with rollerblades I put a lot of push into my strides (barrelling forward) where as when switching to quads you want to think about being softer in the knees and try not to put too much weight into your toes because that will cause you to lean forward and trip on your toe stop. It’s kind of hard to explain it all in text lol. In my next video I will definitely discuss this 😊 Hope that helps
Early 90s entered a store & told the salesman I never felt comfortable in rollerskates. They had Macroblades and he suggested I should try them on. I was totally Amazed regarding the "Balance Factor" for me (due to my height of 5'-9-1/2"). Cha Ching !!!
I've been rollerskating for 6 years switched to rollerblades a year ago and it was really easy i learned to jump and do a lot of things on rollerblades in 3 days haha while on rollerskates it took me a week to maintain perfect balance and learn to walk literally haha.
I found that blades are a lot easier to handle if you have previous experience with ice skating. Because of the similar balance. I could not figure out how to move on skates lmao
ahhh this is so helpful, i use to be a figure skater, but since I live in the south, most of the rinks closed down. I think I want to get some cute inlines to feel like i'm skating again, and also burn that quarantine 15 lol
Thanks Samantha 😊 I’m so glad you found it helpful. I’m up in Canada so, we don’t have to worry about rink closures because for like 6 months of the year it’s frozen outside which can suck lol. But, yes definitely get some in lines you will love it!
Hey Sally, check out @inlinefigureskating on Instagram there are a ton of figure skaters who use in-lines for off ice training. I’m also curious did you end up getting a pair Samantha?
I've always used inlines but i have ankle problems so keeping them straight and not tipping inward while skating is really difficult so I've been considering skates.
You speak so well... tell me your secret please. Also thanks for the video - I watched 3 before finding yours and no one broke it down like you. Thank you!!!
Thank you 😊 I think I just watched a lot of Disney channel growing up and those kids always spoke with a lot of enthusiasm lol. I am so glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi really cool video! I’m used to rollerblades because I couldn’t rollerskate when I was little and now the thought of rollerskating frightens me, but this video was very helpful thankyou!! 🥰
Let me tell you this... I, so much, enjoyed your video! It was to the point, very informative and no bla bla bla. THANK YOU!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I had to subscribe.
I tried roller skates and rollerblades. I like the blades better bc it feels easier to balance on. I could hardly move on skates. On blades, I could move more even when I was a beginner.
I’ve mastered roller blades but I was never formally introduced to roller skates I’m struggling like I can skate but my legs are separating in roller skates how do u bring them back ? Lol roller skates seem so restricting
I know what you mean because I felt similar when I made the switch. What worked for me was loosening the trucks a little bit and also working on bubbles (rolling your skates out and rolling them back together creating a circle with your skates). There are a few tutorials on doing them. If you are already doing them keep it up, it will just take a bit of muscle memory. Hope that helps!
Hey I did both and you can totally go fast on roller skates. The trucks work a little like a skateboard which makes it pretty easy to steer your movement by leaning your weight to a side. I feel like that makes it less restrictive in how you can make rotations and such. Where the long line of the inline skates makes it go more straight unless you only use the front wheels. Cruising in the streets where you should be able to move quickly and be agile is great on roller skates where the inline skates are better for long distance skating in my eyes. Both are used in skateparks and are really fun to use so you cant go wrong either way.
Totally agree with you 😊 You can definitely go fast on both. This was based on a standard skate right out of the box without any adjustments made to the bearings or wheels I find that right out of the box I go faster on blades. Thanks for sharing!
I have a some blades but i’m getting roller skates soon! I order them and i carnt wait don’t know if i’ll prefer them but i think it’s fun to have multiple option
i hope this doesn’t sound weird but you’re literally so pretty !🥺 your chub is really cute :D! everytime i see someone with tum rolls or chub in someplace it makes me so happy :))
when I was a little kid, I was a pro on inlines. I went so fast on the rink and I could even do little tricks. I always fell with roller skates. I dont know about now, but I am planning to get roller skates. now I kinda want incline skates too thougg
Hey Kitanna, that awesome that you are getting back into skating!! If eventually you can get both I say go for it. Let me know how it goes when you get your skates 😊
Ur explanation was amazing thanx!!! Also I would like to go for roller blades because it's challenging but at the same after u learn u can do so many tricks and also they just look so elegant. They rly remind me of ice skating which I love to do
Live the review, I've been struggling on which type of pair to get for a while. U experimented with rentals from my local skating rink and I found I enjoy the roller blades much more!!
the first time I went skating everybody said to use roller skates, I tried it and immediately I knew I didn't like hem. I switch them with roller blades and have been using them ever since. Then 2 years ago I went Iceskating for the first time. It was so easy for me, I got on and just skated. It's really about what you feel most comfortable with. Now I need to practice moving outside and not just the rink...
I learned skating in blades when I was a child, but I want roller skates!! Some people say that it is so hard, and I am so terrified that I actually cannot learn it. I don't wanna waste money.
I loved roller blades as a kid, but I recently ordered skates because I want to try doing turns and dancing. I always found it difficult to do tricks on blades too. Hopefully skates will be for me! Excited for my first pair to arrive! 🥰
when I first started I thought the blades were easier for me for some reason but recently I switched back to the skates because when I wear blades my feet will go like half numb and just burn after being in them for only a few minutes. ALSO for people out there who rent skates/blades from a rink you might not be as bad at skating as you think! almost every time I go 9/10 I get really crappy skates from renting because they don't keep up with maintenance ex wobbly wheels (this is a killer), wheels too tight/ not turning, broken laces, etc. the condition of the skates I get really effect my night.
Thank you so much for this video ❤️ I'm trying to figure it out what are the best roller to start with and I'm so happy that I've found your video, your explanations are clear and the info are super useful!
Personally I found roller skates easier to learn in. I have been on rollerblades/in-lines since I was about 10 and I could never really do more then skate forward and back. In the period of time that I’ve been on roller skates it has been easier to learn new skills and moves. Now a lot of people find rollerblades easy so, I would say try it 😊 you will only be a beginner temporarily.
Id like to start rollerskating or blading, whatever. But i like the inline ones but i also want to dance with them a bit. Just make those cool turns, skate backwards and groove to music while also being super fast. Which do i buy?
I only tried roller blading a month ago..love it so far . I need to fix my pavement on and off cause I look like l ll go down hard..but with the quads I think I would've fallen down already cause of the confidence it would give me balancing on wheels like a car..lol
also it would be super cool if you could post a video on tups/cool tricks of your inline skates! for some reason it seems that there are lots of males on inline skates and females on roller skates, but I'd love to watch some videos for inline skates by some cool women like you :))
I would love to have rollerskates because I have some old rollerblades and is very hard for me to actually skate because I live in a place whit very uneven terrain, practically I live in a hilly village. I just feel like it would be so much easier if I had rollerblades, but my parents don't share my thoughts.
Grew up with roller blades and I just got a new pair of blades that can have the wheels taken off and replaced with quads. Went skating in Walmart while getting groceries and fell on my butt with the quads. But idk both are easy for me except idk how to stop on quads
I want the performance of the incline skates but the aesthetics of the quads 😭😭😭
YESSSS
I want sPEED
When you say performance if you are talking about speed then on quads there are things you can do like changing your wheel bearings for ones that go faster. I love the aesthetics of quads but, when in doubt go with your gut instinct when making a choice😊💕
Alexis Thora So basically i can still go nyoom?
Alexis Thora thanks! I ended a ordering a nice pair of quads for beginners, and I’m looking to get some better bearings to install :)
And yeah, I pretty much just meant the speed

Do you mean the boy key?🍌...
Rollerblades have always been easier for me, could never figure out how to balance on skates for some reason.
Same i was told quads witch is the 2 one side and 2 on the other but then i tryed inline then i was like i was lied to
Same!
Ahh me too
I prefer my Inline speed over any other skates. I agree with your last point, any kind of skating is very good medicine when it comes to stress & anxiety.
It’s that skate joy! Whether on inlines or quads it just feels good! Thanks for the support.
It calms me down and makes me feel like a baddie lol
I prefer them as well, I’m a speed skater
I’m just stanning for a beautiful POC talking to me about skates. Thank you 💫

Same, just ordered them honestly just for the looks and after watching the video I don't regret a thing 👌🏼
@@EffyLand Samee I don’t regret it they’re so fun and cool but one day I wanna get a skate board and roller blades too
Me too! Ordered them yesterday. My ankles kinda suck so I think the added balance of the quad wheels are gonna help me out. Haven’t skated in 12 years!
@@Avividmemory Woah 12 years is a lot!! It's nice that you're skating again:)
@BapsH It’s awesome that you are getting back into it! Try some ankle stretches and strengthening movements off your skates it will definitely help you when your on them. 😊

Look up impala skates! They have some nice aesthetic inline ones!
So many people say this! Try looking up artistic inlines they are inline skates that look like roller/ice skate boot. Which ever skate you like make sure you read the reviews before purchasing 😊 Glad you like the video, thanks for checking it out!
Get impalas
I was looking for roller blades and impala makes very cute and aesthetic ones!
@@ahappyfrenchtoast2669 impalas are really uncomfortable imo.

Quads are so so cute but I’m an inline girl all the way 😂💕
Haha I'm the opposite, switched over to quads from inlines recently, and while they're harder, I feel so much more confident in them
Same I tried quads and I kept falling over and having to REALLY work for the speed I wanted
@@amaya_alvis Okay thanks! That was really helpful. I ended up fixing my inline skates so the search is over anyway
Yaaasss growing a butt FTW! Lol. I want to try out slalom/dance skating on inlines it looks like some much fun. Thanks for checking out this video 😊
Grew up with rollerblades, tried the roller skates once and nearly died, idk how people even walk on those things
I grew up on rollerblades, I tried and keep trying roller skates and they nearly kill me every time.

Yes, rollerblading is a whole body workout. I'm fortunate to have both for decades although I've only recently learned about adjusting my roller skates for which I have both indoor & outdoor wheels. Crazy... I skated with skates that were tighten to much for years. 🤦
For years bruh😭🤣🤣

Oh no I hope your injury isn’t too bad and heals quickly. Skating alone with some music can feel so good.
i don’t have blades yet but i have to say quads can give you a pretty good workout too depending on what you do with them. practicing certain skills repeatedly (esp with few breaks) can definitely get me out of breath, and also i would argue that because blades are faster and have smaller contact points with the ground, quads actually work you out more when pushing over paths with debris and/or for long distances. i definitely get out of breath on quads going on trails with debris, even with outdoor wheels.
another important point imo is that quads can be easily adapted to different disciplines just by changing the wheels, so there’s a lot less commitment to one type of skating in that regard. you could get a different set of wheels and pretty much be all good to go if you want to get into a new type of skating (park skating, jam/dance skating, etc.), whereas with inlines you often need removable frames to be able to switch things up, and you won’t find recreational inlines with removable frames (though you can find good inline skates with removable frames in the $170-$200+ price range - just not rec skates).
also, to get a bit technical, quads have great lateral stability, so that’s a big reason bladers and people who are new to skating may feel quads are “more stable,” but quads also have less longitudinal stability because the wheelbase is shorter from front to back (in traditional setups). this means it’s easier to slip backwards or forwards on quads than on inlines.
also! looks like you have your toe caps installed incorrectly - you want the toe stop nut to be closer to the plate than the toe cap so that the toe cap won’t get caught in the toe stop housing and cause stripping (which could eventually make your toe stops fall out). so in other words the toe cap is sandwiched between the toe stop nut and the toe stop itself.
you may have already learned these things since this video was posted but i hope this helps someone!
I hope you don’t mind me asking if
You have any recommendations for skates and if you think 3 wheel skates are good? :)
@@farcrazy99 i don’t mind at all! it really depends on what kind of skating you want to do, and whether you want to potentially expand into other types of skating.
first of all i will address your question about 3 wheel skates, sometimes called tri skates: they are faster than inline skates with 4 wheels bc of less contact area with the ground (so less friction), but bc of the 3 large wheels replacing 4 smaller wheels, you have a taller but shorter wheelbase. this means you’re higher off the ground and also have less longitudinal stability, so you are at greater risk of falling forwards or backwards than with a 4-wheel setup. the taller wheels (or you could say greater diameter, same thing here) are also the reason they are faster than 4-wheel skates. because of the shorter wheelbase, greater wheel height/diameter, and greater maximum speed, tri skates are not recommended for beginners who have not already established basic balance on inline skates. technically it is doable for beginners, but the learning curve would just be steeper.
there are different kinds of inline skates in general. inlinewarehouse.com (the sort of sibling company to derby warehouse) has a basic rundown of it here: www.inlinewarehouse.com/fitlc/skates/inline-skate-buying-guide.html
but long story short, if you are sure you only want to do recreational skating, recreational skates with soft boots, similar to the ones shown in this video, are fine (e.g. brands like K2). on the other hand, if you’re pretty sure you want to eventually expand into maybe “aggressive inline” (aka park skating) and/or slalom and/or freestyle etc., then i would recommend a skate with a hard boot. usually “urban” skates are good for multiple styles, but inline warehouse’s categories of “slalom” or “freestyle” will also work. brands i’d suggest include flying eagle, FR/seba, powerslide, and micro.
i just got the flying eagle f5s eclipse skates, my first pair of inline skates. i didn’t wanna spend too much, but i wanted a quality pair that i could eventually use for multiple purposes, and the f5s fit the bill perfectly for me. the frames are removable, and the front and back wheels have optional rockering, which means i can raise them a few mm in order to have more maneuverability (which also comes with a tradeoff of less stability, so i will wait to do that until i’ve mastered the traditional flat setup). there’s also a soul plate + frame kit that is compatible with these so that i could eventually turn them into “aggressive”/park skates. the frames are also laterally adjustable, meaning i can move them a few mm to the inside or outside edge of the boot to center them correctly for my feet (the inline warehouse youtube channel has a video on this in a bit more detail). these are not necessary features for beginners, but they are good to keep in mind if you do plan on doing more than recreational skating.
another thing to keep in mind is that many urban/freestyle/slalom skates don’t tend to come with a heel brake, but usually you can get one to put on them. it will just not come automatically included, unlike with most recreational skates.
i hope that helps you! if not, or if some bits i didn’t explain very clearly, then the subreddit r/rollerblading also has a lot of information, and also no one will judge you for asking “beginner” questions on there. other youtube channels about inline skating can help you out too!
i hope you have fun doing any type of skating, whether quad, inline, ice, or otherwise; skating is the best!
@@AlexisThora I got my skates a few weeks ago and I’m slowly getting used to it😅
I grew up mostly using rollerblades.
I never learned to roller skate🥲 I would always fall so blades were just a better option. Hoping to learn skates soon. Great breakdown. ❤️
That periwinkle is a VIBE! 😍 great video! Purchasing blades in the very near future and loved this video to amp me up on a new hyperfixation!
I love how bubbly you are! Thank you for all of this information!!
Thank you so much! I am glad you like it 💕
I've only ever had rollerblades since I was little, but I've also been seeing all the cool people doing tricks on rollerskates so I'm getting a pair!
For me the biggest thing was learning how to balance on skates vs. blades
Honestly you just have to get used to it and after like 3 days you'll figure it out
I decided to get started using inline roller-blades to eventually do freestyle slalom skating. It's beautiful!!
I used to be a powerful rollerblader as a kiddo and need to relearn how to skate, thank you so much for this video!

Thanks for the information. I used to use roller blades when I was a kid. I am trying to pick up the hobby again to get outside more.
hi! i just wanted to ask, ive been ice skating since i was little, and im fairly good at it, but i want to know if i should still go for the quads (the one that i think would be more ideal for me). i figured a blade on a roller blade and a blade on an ice skate may be slightly different, so i was just wondering. thank you! have a great day :)
the In-lines have a lot of ankle support so its ok its good to have them one size up.
Thanks for sharing 😊 that’s good to know
Its exactly the opposite. You size down. If you wear size 12 sneakers then you buy size 11 rollerblades
It depends on the brand. I’m in the process of buying new K2s and for that I can get the same size as my shoe. I wish sizes were universal across all brands it would make it a lot easier especially with shopping online.
You're talking about size, but don't roller blades usually have adjustable size? The ones I had when I was little did, they had a certain range.
@@yakone1379 not all the them, but they do exist, mainly for kids with still growing feet
Oooohhh also, you can adjust the length of your toe stop to make it shorter or longer. If it is long and you are tripping on it try making if shorter.
Cheers! I’ll keep an eye out for your next video. Haven’t skated in years, I’m excited to get back into it.
Same omg
Did you end up getting any? I was a figure skater for about 8 years (quit long ago) and I’m hoping that my ice skills are transferable to inlines!
Hey Sally, check out @inlinefigureskating on Instagram there are a ton of figure skaters who use in-lines for off ice training. I’m also curious did you end up getting a pair Samantha?
Thanks for this info! You helped me determine if I would keep my inlines or get roller skates. Stoking g with my in-lines!
I've always used inlines but i have ankle problems so keeping them straight and not tipping inward while skating is really difficult so I've been considering skates.

Quads are hard for me because I'm forced to keep my feet straight. With blades I bend my feet slightly when I stand. I wanna learn to do quads though.
Oh really for me it's the opposite. I get a lot of food ache on blades bc my feet bend o-o
MOST INFORMATIVE VIDEO about quads & inline! Thank you!
I order them and i carnt wait don’t know if i’ll prefer them but i think it’s fun to have multiple option

the first time I went skating everybody said to use roller skates, I tried it and immediately I knew I didn't like hem. I switch them with roller blades and have been using them ever since. Then 2 years ago I went Iceskating for the first time. It was so easy for me, I got on and just skated. It's really about what you feel most comfortable with. Now I need to practice moving outside and not just the rink...
This video is so helpful! Thank you!!! Glad I watched 😊
Thanks for pointing out these two differences 🤗
I learned skating in blades when I was a child, but I want roller skates!! Some people say that it is so hard, and I am so terrified that I actually cannot learn it. I don't wanna waste money.
I loved roller blades as a kid, but I recently ordered skates because I want to try doing turns and dancing. I always found it difficult to do tricks on blades too. Hopefully skates will be for me! Excited for my first pair to arrive! 🥰
Have they arrived yet? Hopefully you’ll be roller dancing in no time. ☺️
I really appreciate the thoroughness of this information and comparisons! I think I’ll get both now. 🌸
Thanks for checking it out and great choice!!
Very informative video for beginners like me. Kind regards from Spain!!!!
when I first started I thought the blades were easier for me for some reason but recently I switched back to the skates because when I wear blades my feet will go like half numb and just burn after being in them for only a few minutes.
Your hair is so pretty 💖
Thank you ☺️
i just .... love your teeeth so much !
Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for this video ❤️ I'm trying to figure it out what are the best roller to start with and I'm so happy that I've found your video, your explanations are clear and the info are super useful!
What did u choose?
For beginners which one would be easier to learn? I really like the Rollerblade but I started off with roller skate and started to at least balance.
@@AlexisThora Did you happen to get a pair yet? If so did you get quads or blades?
Id like to start rollerskating or blading, whatever. But i like the inline ones but i also want to dance with them a bit. Just make those cool turns, skate backwards and groove to music while also being super fast. Which do i buy?
Thank you for this very thorough video! You explain so calmly so it's easy to understand.
Thank you for checking it out 😊
I only tried roller blading a month ago..love it so far .
Very useful video! This definitely helped me in my choice between the 2
I am so happy to hear that 😊 Happy Skating
Grew up with roller blades and I just got a new pair of blades that can have the wheels taken off and replaced with quads. Went skating in Walmart while getting groceries and fell on my butt with the quads. But idk both are easy for me except idk how to stop on quads
