This was George performance at MTV unplugged n one of the best I’ve ever seen. The whole show was tremendous. His mom was in the audience n it was the last time she saw him play before she passed away. I think it was killing George not to get up and dance. His band n singers were great some of them stayed with him since the WHAM days.

Hi Karen. I said the same thing when I watched this concert. The only thing is, I kept yelling It to the dang TV. I guess sometimes I get a little crazy when It comes to George😍🎆

You should also watch the video for either “Fastlove “ or “An Easier Affair” or the live performance of his song “Fantasy” to watch George dance. He was such a great entertainer.

❤️‍🔥 George is such a professional. Expert singer with that smooth voice and just LOVES TO SING. it’s so infectious watching him sing live because he just travels with the music! And you feel that respect between him and his band and backing singers, they’re all traveling together as one. Brilliant 🌟
The UK accent (and Aussie accent and just about every other accent) often disappears and is replaced by a generic 🇺🇸 accent for 2 reasons. One is that a LOT of the music we all grow up on, especially pop, is from the US, so people become so accustomed to singing along with American hits that they start writing in that accent. The other reason flows on from that, which is that 🇺🇸 is the biggest market for music in the world, so appealing to the USA (an audience often unfamiliar with non American accents 🙄) becomes a logical goal for a pop artist. There are lots of acts who sing in their own UK (or other) accents, but they tend to either be rock or alternative, or much younger… Non US pop artists often still adapt their accents to a US dialect.
George was massive in the US in the 80s and early 90s, but after that he decided to (ahem) CHOOSE LIFE and focused on living as a happy newly out gay man, and releasing the music he wanted to release without the grind of constant touring and trying to maintain an image in the US market. I guess the accent stayed quasi-🇺🇸 when he sang because it was ingrained by then.

If he's not already... I have a feeling that George is gonna end up near the top of your favorites list. George takes it to another level with his live performances. You should check out his rendition of "Brother Can You Spare a Dime". George was extremely proud of that performance.

George was the first of many things. Yes CHINA, the 5 o'clock shadow, the ripped jeans, glasses (the look ), 1st. to open the new Wembley stadium,1st. contemporary artist to ever play at the Place Garnier Opera House, Paris. I'm sure there may be more. We mustn't Forget the Man. He is undoubtedly one of the kindest, most loving human beings that I have come to know! I am going to love him till the end of time! 🤗😘💕😇⏳

I've read Google articles on why accents disappear during singing. There are lots of articles where singing teachers explain why. Some singer's accents still come through, but you are right they often disappear.

I have seen George so many times live and always with the same background singers. George would do nothing if it couldn't be perfect. Never heard the dude hit a bad note and yes, his background singers always killed it. They made him better, no doubt.

Nice live pick. A long time ago I heard a Brit singer say that he and other UK singers lose their accents when singing because they grow up singing along to American music. I think a lot of aspiring singers try to emulate their fave American artists.

Fantastic track from Wham, with this version George doing solo. So glad I got to see George perform this live in Melbourne at Marvel stadium. Also an amazing video for this off the special Wham did many years ago being one of the first Western acts to perform in China. The crowds reaction at Wham and George's vocals is priceless. Absolute legend and one of the all time great male vocalists.

An early song before I forget that you should react to is Donny Iris - Ah Leah! It's like Bill Nye the Science Guy squished together with Orville Redenbacher. And it's shocking when you see him because he sounds like Foreigner or some other rocker.

I’ve been asking that question about the British accent when they sing for years. Great minds! Anyway, if you haven’t heard spinning the wheel by George Michael, you will love that one. I like his more soulful songs where he’s really talking his stuff like this one. So you should react to that one if you haven’t.

Regarding the accent thing, you’re right....most Singers from the UK sing with an American accent.
Maybe it’s because the words will be more understood globally if sung in a US accent. As many people say they can’t understand a British accent!
And tbh, it just sounds better (most of the time). 😂

I listen the ''Make it Big'' album (second album of ''Wham'') in the last days (who included ''Carless Whisper'', ''Freedom'', ''Everything She Wants'' and ''Wake Me Up Before You Go Go''). I understand why he didn't like it. Outside the singles, the album didn't aged well with the years and didn't travel the years after the 80's, it's very pop radio-friendly. I like happy sound if it's was good, but in this case, ''Make it Big'' wasn't traversed the years, was hugely so-so and sound very dated and the non-singles was not good. At the other hand, George debut solo album ''Faith'' didn't aged at all and sound timeless 35 years after his released, it's sound fresh in 1987 and it's sound also fresh in 2022.

Where does the accent go? Many of these British singers are deliberately going for an American sound (and by American, I mean Black) and that is why they lose their accent. George is doing blue eyed soul, so he definitely is going for an American sound on purpose. See also Lisa Stansfield. This sort of "cool" American sound really is a product of the 20th Century and mostly post Rock'n'Roll. If you listen to British music from before the Rock'n'Roll era...lots of Music Hall stuff, you will hear lots and lots of prominent British accents, like Marie Lloyd or George Formby (th-cam.com/video/rOqo5Po462U/w-d-xo.html). Post Rock'n'Roll you find British singers using British accents when they want to deliberately signal Britishness--Like the song "I'm Henry The VIII, I Am" by Herman's Hermits. Morrissey still keeps his accent...oh there was a whole trend of British folks singing with a sort of fake Cockney accent to seem working class and cool...like Kate Nash and Lilly Allen. But there are more. The Arctic Monkeys, Tom Robinson, The Small Faces (th-cam.com/video/zXeRB-3nDR8/w-d-xo.html)...Dexy's Midnight Runners, Sophie Ellis-Bexter, Squeeze, Ian Dury, The Proclaimers. Bunches and bunches of British hip hoppers. British punks often sang with working class British accents.

I absolutely love the vocal arrangement on the original. This version lost that magic. George and backup vocalists sounded excellent but it wasn't enough to save this song.
