    The fact people would say he isn’t flawed, don’t really know the character. Same for Wonder Woman. If you want to say they are gods, that doesn’t mean they aren’t flawed.

    I'm very interested to see how Gunn is going to portray Metropolis. If TSS and Guardians 3 is anything to go by, Gunn has an appreciation for practical effects whether that's through makeup, action sequences or physical sets which leaves me to wonder if we may actually see a *constructed* Metropolis on a real sound stage (ala Burton's Batman with its sweeping highly stylized city) I think that would add a whole new level to the specularity of the city if it's tangible to both the actors and the audience

      I totally agree. I'm picturing something like The Hudsucker Proxy, but with a lot more sunshine. It'd be even cooler if they build the skyscrapers in real miniature, and just used CG to composite Superman into them.

    That comment James made about going back to Peacemaker after Superman I think is a good move. As the head of DC he can shape Superman (and in essence mould the “head” of the DCU) and start the universe on the right foot for other story tellers to follow. James then can focus on the less bigger characters enabling all the other directors to shine and bring all of their variety of styles/emotions in contribution to the larger story here. I think he fully understands how to stop it from becoming the “Gunnverse” and keeping it all true to the actual spirit of DC. Bringing us the characters we all love how it was always meant to be, with justice! 🙏There is infinite potential 🫶

    I am looking forward to this new DCU, especially Blue Beatle. And I really do like the Gotham City vibe in The Batman. It definitely has the comic book like style just the Tim Burton films with Michael Keaton. So I'm sure James Gunn's idea of Gotham City will be similar, but more closer to the animated series. The same with Superman.

    At first I was'nt too sure about letting Blue Beetle be in the DCU, but the more I think about it the more I'm ok with it. For starters it's just the victim of crap timing with all the changes going on at Warner Brothers and honestly it does look pretty fun. But this is also a major vote of confidence basically, Gunn believes this movie will be a success so much he's willing to say it's the first DCU related thing we're getting. I think that's great and it means the crew who made this movie won't have their efforts going to waste it might even encourage more people to go check it out, I was already thinking about i anyway just cause it's the one movie left of the old regime with no baggage attached to it and actually looks like it has effort put into it.

I do appreciate how candid James Gunn has been while discussing aspects of the DCU (definitely appreciate him debunking bullcrap rumors most of the time), and he's saying a lot of right things so I hope his words actually transition to the projects' quality going forward. I'm also curious to hear what new information we might get on Comic Con, assuming the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike doesn't affect it. If Guardians 3 is anything to go by James Gunn will make us care for this new Clark a lot. He is a master at mixing different tones. Superman starting the DCU is very fitting. As for the whole DCU, I really hope that some classic story beats will be touched upon in this DCU, like for example Batman: Death in the Family and Under the red hood. the DCEU sadly already took some storylines like the death of Superman where I think we need some space before they do that again. The same goes for the long Halloween, in which both Batman and the dark knight have taken influence. One of the most exciting aspects of the DCU is the dark universe. That being Swamp Thing, Constantine, and Justice League Dark. There is so much potential here and Marvel's magic side is nowhere near as dense as I would love to see the DCU really dive into some classic storylines from the Hellblazer comics, like for example dangerous habits which is absolutely fantastic. John Constantine is THE character I most want to see in the DCU. I’m excited for Batman, Superman, etc., but Constantine hasn’t really been explored much aside from Keanu Reeves’ movie. Easily one of the best writing in all of comics was Garth Ennis’ run on John Constantine. Already watched the podcast but I'll give this a view just for the fact that you condensed all the DCU-related information into a third of the length of that video. Plus it's always good to see what sort of speculation you might have about the future of the DCU and James Gunn's projects within it. Keep up the good work, Boba!
    If he really kept thinking about it after turning it down for a while, and that's what Legacy is, I have more faith in the project. At first, hearing him turn it down but then all of a sudden he "really wants to do it" I thought it was a PR BS spin, but this makes more sense. Superman is my FAVORITE character, so I just hope he does it justice. I like his movies/shows a lot, he does great humor, and he has a great heart too. But the problem I am worried about is some of his humor that works great for Peacemaker, is not even close to right for Superman. So I really hope he understands the character, not just read one comic, watched a few clips, and then think he understands Superman and then is ready to go. I feel much better about James Gunn and the future of DC after listening to the Rosenbaum podcast. The weird thing that scares me now, is that the audience might be too tired of superhero movies and that maybe the genre is ending. Because I really want to see the dc characters get a proper adaptation like the one James Gunn is describing, but if everything keeps flopping I'm not sure we will. Going to see Flash today. hopefully, it doesn’t disappoint. This universe might be developed in a similar way to the MCU but more comic-accurate and James Gunn told us what stories theirs based off of, so if you don’t read comics or haven’t read certain comics and are able to you can check them out so that you appreciate a project even more. I Want this universe to become popular I have hope. one film not being successful shouldn’t mean much that’s my opinion we need to get further into the universe every film is different and I want to see the green lantern stuff and all the other stuff that are further down the line after Superman's legacy. I do agree that both the MCU and the DCU should try harder to have a much wider range of tones in their movies/series. Both of Michael Rosenbaums Podcasts (one is his Interview Celebrities called Inside Of You, the other is Talkville that's a Smallville rewatch podcast with Tom Welling) are great highly recommend them as well.5:49 This quote makes me think Ezra’s version of The Flash is not a sure thing. Otherwise, the first character would be The Flash. The weird thing that scares me now, is that the audience might be too tired of superhero movies and that maybe the genre is ending. Because I really want to see the dc characters get a proper adaptation like the one James Gunn is describing, but if everything keeps flopping im not sure we will. Going to see Flash today. hopefully, it doesn’t disappoint.

    Blue Beetle is the first film in the new DCU line up. However, the saga starts with Superman Legacy, not only will it introduce Superman characters, but begin to build out the ‘wider’ spectrum of the DCU. Blue Beetle will be solely focused on the Beetle and not the bigger DCU spectrum. That’s the difference.

    • @BobaTalks

      Yeah. The projects before are more or less a DCU prelude.

    • @propellavideo
      @propellavideo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BobaTalks my concern was The Flash (spoiler alert) this should have been the film RL kick off the new DCU; when it didn’t. They’ve had an eternity to make this film; and they screwed it by not introducing a new Batman.
      Nows there’s AM2 yet to come (which is OLD DCU material after Beetle)
      It’s still a mess.
      Should have been…
      AM2 then…
      The Flash (timeline reset for the new DCU introducing a new Batman at the end)
      Blue Beetle (part of the new DCU timeline)
      Superman Legacy, a film which has a superman story, yet a few narrative strands which can be continued across the DCU, like The Authority.
      Currently; after The Flash, with AM2 still to come, DCU are firmly in a mess.

    • @mindfreak9674
      @mindfreak9674 ปีที่แล้ว

      @propellavideo I agree with this. I dont get why they are putting am2 after the flash it just doesnt make sense.(spoilers) Since clooney makes an appearance at the end of the flash does that mean he will be the new batman in brave and the bold? Because honestly im not too keen on that. I expected a new casted batman.

    • @propellavideo
      @propellavideo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mindfreak9674 exactly. The flash should have been the film to reset it all. New everything; including a new Batman.
      So now Barry is in the same universe as Arnie’s Mr Freeze and Chris O’Donnell as Robin/Nightwing? How has we ended up in the worst Bat Universe? 😂

    The sad thing about what Gunn said, is that the Snyder storyline is very interesting in the fact that many of the characters go to the full extreme of killing. It could be a new twist on the injustice league. He could use the Flash movie to tie them all together. A way to have his cake and eat it too. A peak into the timelines created when the young flash was traveling back to fix the timelines.

    When he talks about Metropolis, i'm picturing something like the whole "city of tomorrow" from the comics. With a mixture of art deco and futurism with monorails and bridges between skyscrapers, similar to the animated series, or certain eras of the comics, or that crap Superman game on xbox with the ultra-futuristic metropolis based on what was happening in the comics at the time. It's something i've never seen done in live-action. And would really differentiate it from previous live-action Superman projects. I've wanted to make a Superman movie for a long time, so i've been thinking about what Metropolis would look like for a long time also. Filmmakers seem to love adapting the dramatic elements of Gotham City, but like 80% of the look of Metropolis has NEVER appeared on screen outside of animation. And i think that's a damn shame.

    The only thing I'm sketchy of is video game involvement in the DCEU story. I would think the idea behind it is so that they're either a direct adaption of the movies/shows (which I don't think is the case here) or have it exist within this world with it's own story which in this case I don't think it should have too much effect on the story. Movies + Shows is good and it can work, but video games is something else entirely. I think it may have it's own set of difficulties in remaining consistent with everything and maintaining quality control.

    • @rottensquid
      @rottensquid ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree. I assume that any games they make will not be essential must-see chapters in the greater DCU project. I'm hoping that the approach to their overarching universe will be a small number of tentpole films we all need to see, and a large number that add something, but could be skipped. And presumably, games will all be in the latter category. I love games, but not everyone does, or has time for a 20 hour experience that requires mastery of Batman's stealth mechanics, or whatever.
      But I think that also goes for television, especially animation. I suspect they're knocking out Monster Squad because it's quick and easy. But they probably also have something really special there, because it'd be foolish to debut the new DCU with a dud. Regardless, good or bad, it's most likely not going to be essential viewing. I'm assuming that Superman: Legacy will be the high-profile intro to Gunn's DCU.
      This gets to the whole conundrum of serialized storytelling. A lot of serials assume that leaving stories unfinished is the secret to getting viewers back. It's the Scheherazade approach, keep the audience hungry for more or die. But ultimately, I think this approach doesn't work long-term. It discounts our need for stories to have closure, to have a point. Sooner or later, even the most gullible viewers will figure out the story isn't going anywhere, and lose interest. So you have to end stories in a fully satisfying way, and trust that satisfying the audience is a better way to lure them back than leaving them hanging. T
      he same thing applies to the "shared universe" approach. If you make every single piece essential to understanding the whole, then every single piece will chip away at viewer interest rather than engaging it. If you tell the audience "If you want to understand what's going on, you have to have watched these six other movies and three other shows," the answer will sooner or later be, "Or I could just not care," and switch off.

    Oof, the story about Brosnahan getting asked to comment about getting the role of Lois! Like, this puts her in an impossible position. Anything she says could cost her the role. And the press knows this. They asked the question because for a certain section of the audience, watching her squirm is good television. This is what stars mean when they say the press is the enemy. If they managed to back her into a corner and get her to say something that might cost her the role, that's a riveting show. They don't care how bad it is for her career.

    I have an idea for a new batman film that would be new. A Matches gangster movie with a gang war against the ventriloquist and scarface. That would be cool. But no one would show batman as Matches the gangster, the bad guy, but still a side of batman that needs more love.

    If Guardians 3 is anything to go by James Gunn will make us car for this new clark a lot. He is a master at mixing different tones. Superman starting the DCU is very fitting. As for the whole DCU I really hope that some classic story beats will be touched upon in this dcu, like for example Batman: Death in the Family and under the red hood. the DCEU sadly already took some storylines like death of superman where I think we need some space before they do that again. The same goes for the long halloween, which both the batman and the dark knight have taken influence from. One of the most exciting aspects of the dcu is the dark universe. That being Swamp Thing, Constantine and Justice League Dark. There is so much potential here and Marvels magic side is nowhere neat as dense as dcs. I would love to see the dcu really dive into some classic storylines from the Hellblazer comics, like for example dangerous habits which is absolutely fantastic. John Constantine is THE character i most want to see in the dcu. I’m exited for Batman, Superman etc., but Constantine hasn’t really been explored much aside from Keanu Reeves’ movie. Easily one of the best writing in all of comics was Garth Ennis’ run on John Constantine.

  • @rottensquid

    I think the concept of character flaws, or at least the thinking of characters is "needing flaws," is a bit reductive. What counts as a character flaw? Do characters always have to battle with their own imperfections to be interesting? Paddington Bear didn't, and I could think of worse inspirations for Superman than Paddington. Though one might say that his flaw was being helpless, which isn't really a flaw, but it's certainly a weakness, which Superman doesn't share.
    On the other hand, to me, Superman's most interesting characteristic, the one everyone seems to agree on, is his basic decency. It's both his greatest strength and his greatest weakness. He's the most powerful person in the world, but power alone can't achieve what he wants. He wants to be a shining example of goodness. And though he can do a lot of good with his powers, it can't make others be good. He can stop disasters, maybe stop crimes, but he can't, for example, stop people from voting for Lex Luthor for president. Not if he wants to remain a good person.
    This, to me, is the core challenge Superman faces. It's something that the previous films didn't seem interested in, but it seems obvious just from James Gunn's brief description of his upcoming film that he understands it perfectly. Being a good man in a morally broken world is hard, and having superpowers doesn't make it easier. He could be a flawlessly good character with the best intentions that's always does the right thing, and it wouldn't matter. Half the planet is still screaming at him that the right thing is somehow wrong, and that doing it makes him the bad guy. And there's nothing his powers can do to change their minds. That's the flaw of Superman, even if he's otherwise just a good person through and through.

    Hey boba I really just want some more content I seen a pretty long list of marvel projects but not a lot of DC, confirmed, I just know of superman legacy, Deadpool is coming out.... where's Deathstroke! I've always asked that that should be one of his first projects... put blue beetle on max, or Deathstroke, a series idc didn't mean to get off topic a little but I would love to see green arrow but he's gotta be the like the arrow verse version, he needs to beg Stephen to come back but him and Batman should be a team and they lead the bat family red hood should be in it , dstroke should be the villain, but it's a green arrow movie that Batman shows up, it's called brave and the bold...we know that's when he teams up, and keep Brenton as night wing he's perfect but I just need more content and there plenty of it

    Purely a personal opinion, and I know it's absurd, but my dream Swamp Thing movie would be taking the premise of Swamp thing Issue 53 giant sized spectacular, and going crazy with it. The story went as follows (SPOILER WARNING):
    Some sleazy photographer gets pictures of Swamp Thing having sex with his wife, Abby, which get published in the national news. She gets arrested, as the small Louisiana town she lives in just assumes what she's doing is somehow against the law, though what law she's breaking isn't exactly clear. Regardless, she loses her job as a schoolteacher, and instantly becomes the town pariah. So she jumps bail and leaves, hoping to lose herself in Gotham. But she's picked up there (by Harvey Bullock, no less) and is now held without bail.
    Meanwhile, Swamp Thing returns from the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event, and learns all this. At this point, he's had enough of humans and their stupidity, so he goes to Gotham and demands she be released. When the city refuses, he grows a jungle over Gotham. Aside from anything else, it's probably the most beautiful issue of comics from the 80s. It also ends up pitting Swamp Thing against Batman, with Batman as the clear bad guy, though his motives are perfectly understandable. And it opens up a very topical conversation about how we persecute people who're just doing their own thing.
    It also skips another tiresome retelling of an origin story. You could just do a nice little opening montage that tells the story of how this unlikely couple gets together, which would be both romantic and delightfully weird. I say it's a perfect plotline to insert into the new DCU movie slate.
    I mean, if I had to put a bet on it, I'd say Gunn will most likely tell the Anatomy Lesson story. It would set up Swamp Thing as a scientist whose own chemicals turned him into a plant monster, and he's looking for a cure. And then, the first true ret-con reveal that he was never that scientist, just a collection of plant matter with a consciousness that thinks it was once the scientist. That's a great framework to introduce Swamp Thing, the transformation from Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson's creation to Alan Moore's brilliant reinvention. But putting Swamp Thing in Gotham and pitting him against Batman could integrate the character into the greater DCU immediately and in a truly compelling way. It's the kind of movie that would look like a gimmick, but could potentially be a gigantic tear-jerker, as well as a magnificent spectacle.
