    They’ve been telling us for the last couple of years that this is what tennis needs. Personality and drama. Now the same people are clutching their pearls LOL. It’s so misogyny-coded. It’s only OK when men do it. Finally someone gave it back to the diabolical crowd. Good on you Danielle. Ignore the incoming overly sensitive outrage.

      In my opinion there would be a huge outrage if some of the men stars would talk about playing tennis just for the money and spending it on boats and five star vacations. People don't like her because she's unlikable and full of herself end of the story.

    • @scottmark9719

      It’s got nothing to do with misogyny so please don’t go there. All the players that have “personality and drama” have the fans turn against them, especially in front of a partisan crowd. Kyrgios, Medvedev and the like get it too so let’s stop complaining. Act disrespectfully, you open yourself to being criticised.

    As a person who is from Melbourne Australia, I am embarrassed and ashamed of the crowd and that behaviour.

    • @johnrofsocalgroover2645
      @johnrofsocalgroover2645 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Melbourne is like a little bubble of nice people and the rest of the country is a bit nasty especially Sydney and Brisbane. That's what I have found travelling around the last few week. The tennis vibe in Melbourne is really great wish it was like that at the US open. The cafes and shops staff have all been really friendly and helpful so don't be. too alarmed about Melbourne that was a bad crowd and Ive seen them like this even at austere Wimbledon, but your city is a really great place

    • @berranari1
      @berranari1 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@johnrofsocalgroover2645 Yeah, it's lovely. It's a bit strange to me for people to boo someone at the tennis. Unless they have done something terrible.
      It's funny that I am a Collingwood supporter in the AFL and they booed the player Lance "Buddy" Franklin when he had the ball.
      In the Collingwood fan's defence, the other team was trying to rough up the young Collingwood star, Nick Daicos and the crowd was having a good time because Collingwood was winning the game. Franklin was struggling to get anything done and similar to American Football the crowd was happy to see the opposition star not doing well.
      But after the game the Sydney Swans coach, John Longmire was saying that he didn't think that they should be booing such a champion player. "Why would you boo him?" he asked at the press conference.
      Then the Collingwood coach Craig McRae said that he would not boo and he would not teach people to do that.
      And that's football.
      But back to the tennis, I like that American chic.
      Now.. My Baltimore Ravens just lost to the Buffalo Bills. But my love to Josh Allen and the KC Chiefs also. Now I just want the AFC championship winner to win the Superbowl.
      And Josh Allen had "Choose Love" written on the back of his helmet. And that was football. 🏈 🇺🇸
      So that's why I am saying that I am ashamed of the booing of the American tennis player. They should just be cheering for their favourite, it's not cricket.
      Last time in England the drunken toffs were booing the Australian team. 😆
      And I was pretty angry at the time. Even the Prime Ministers were arguing over the incident that caused the booing. The English were wrong by the way. But you can look into yourself if you want.
      Um, it was Australia vs England at Lords.

    Danielle Collins, like her or hate her, didn’t necessarily deserve that kind of crowd response. Then again, after watching her interview following the match, it’s clear she’s made a bit of a rod for her own back moving forward. Her fiery demeanor on the court and sharp comments off it might rub some people the wrong way, and while it’s part of what makes her a fierce competitor, it can also fuel negative reactions from the crowd.
    That said, there’s a fine line between passionate support and outright disrespect, and it feels like the crowd crossed it. Whether you’re a fan of Collins or not, no player should have to deal with that level of hostility-it’s not what tennis is about. At the same time, players also have to be mindful of how their actions and words can influence the atmosphere. It’ll be interesting to see how Collins handles things in the future, both with her game and how she interacts with fans.
    Aussie tennis crowds have traditionally been super respectful toward players from all over the world. But ever since players like Nick Kyrgios brought their “bogan” style and attitude to the game, it feels like the crowd’s behavior has shifted too. It’s something I’ve been saying about sports in general, but especially tennis-when players are allowed to attack officials without serious consequences, why is anyone surprised when the crowd starts behaving the same way?
    It’s time for tennis to crack down on players who disrespect officials because we’re now seeing that behavior spill over into how crowds treat players. It's just not a good look for Australian tennis.

      This all comes from not Nick but from the mobile phone troll mentality. People are paying to watch good athletics but some people confuse that with trolling and cheering players.

    • @uDave247
      @uDave247 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I care very little for sports but still know enough that I was very surprised by the atmosphere that I witnessed in not just this match, but also during Kokkinskis match on Monday. Chanting and jeering is the kind of thing I'd expect from a AFL game, but not tennis.

    • @ER1CwC
      @ER1CwC 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@uDave247 There's a long tradition of that sort of crowd behaviour in tennis. Matches in Davis Cup (a team event between different countries) used to be extremely partisan. And sticking to the major tennis tournaments, this happens routinely at the US Open and Australian Open, and also at the French Open depending on which players are on court (and which countries they represent). The only crowd that is stereotypically "tennis" is the Wimbledon crowd.

      Danielle is not a good role model for your daughter. The fact u feel this way, is a concern. Danielle's reaction was disgusting and classless, to beating Destanee: someone who nearly took her life due to mental health battles and pressure of being a young prodigy. Thats the reason the crowd was cheering so hard for Destanee - becos of her heartwrencing backstory - not to spite Collins. Its narcissistic for Collins to think the crowd revolved around hating on her.
      All she talks about is money and big paychecks. That tells u anough about her character. Think over what ive said now, before choosing Collins as a role model for your young daughter.

    Let's not ignore the elephant in the room - she's an attractive, confident and articulate white woman. Those factors pretty much make her public enemy number one by default in a woke country like Australia, especially given she was playing a woman of colour. She held her nerve relatively well during the match and gave it to the crowd - mostly bogans - at the end and reminded them of the fact they're paying to hate on her. We need more like her in the game, not least of all because it's just refreshing to see a woman playing women's tennis for a change.

    There are a lot of outsiders looking in here. People aren’t seeing that Collins was very unsportsmanlike throughout the entire match, taking a tactical medical time out when she was clearly not injured, screaming after each shot for a whole game just to throw Aiava off her focus and showing no etiquette between losing points. Also, the crowd only started booing her after she started taunting them. Until then, it was nothing out of the ordinary. If you can’t deal with a crowd who’s not supporting you, then don’t play in front of them.

      ? Don't play in front of them? She won. She got the last laugh. Maybe she won't next game, but it's her day. Injury timeouts are an unfortunate part of tennis. Most do it. Never disappoints the amount of cringe, from telling Sakkari to shut her mouth twice, to yelling at umpires and calling them names, to now gesturing to the crowd to kiss her ass and telling the crowd they pay for her 5 star vacations.

    Tennis matches can be stressful, things like this can happen to anyone, professionals, club players. I don't think she's a bad person nor that she did something out of this world. We have seen it over and over again because tennis makes almost everyone a little bit crazy. What surprises me and worries me the most is that after the match she tried to say that this is a good show and good for the sport for some weird reason she made up in the moment. If there's where the world is going right now, we should all be worried. If I were her, I'd just apologize, say that it was an outburst which came from being completely stressed out in that moment, and that's it. Btw, haters don't pay tennis players... prize money and sponsors are more than enough to pay any vacation she needs, any time she wants for the rest of her life. Being rude to a home crowd who is just supporting the underdog in a second round match is just a bad thing for the image of the player and for the sport.
