    Looks like a peaceful morning. My car leaks like this but it's so much that I can't tell where it's coming from 🤣 I'm gonna assume anywhere and everywhere lol.

    I'm 99% sure this is happening on our 2.0 Tiguan.
    The leak is much smaller, and only appears on the upper passenger side corner of the engine cover (not on ground), but I'm still adding 1-1.5 qts every couple weeks.
    Thanks for taking the time to lay all of this out!

      BTW, Just how difficult was it to access the turbo lines with the wheel and liner off? I'm going to try and take a look at mine this weekend, and I think it's the oil return. Thanks again.

    Seems that my oil leak problem(Golf 5 1.9 tdi) could be the same. Great video thanks 🙂

    I used oil trace and an UV flashlight. I wiped the metal hoses and mounting areas with paper towels . I put the car on wheel ramps, crawled underneath at night and with the UV light I was able to watch the flanges and banjo bolts drip the oil to identify where the leak(s) originated. I replaced the gaskets and crush washers as needed.

    I have this same problem on my Audi a4 but my return line doesn’t even have a gasket on it. So I ordered one on fcp. I hope this solves my problem. Thank you for the video

    My seat Leon 1.6 tdi is doing the same thing now after a turbo replacement. I just found out the mechanic used the same gasket so I’m hoping thats the issue

    Thanks for the video. My 09 Jetta is leaking for the return line also. Did you have any issues with getting the line off? Socket clearance or anything? Did you purchase a triple square set? Thanks again!!

    • @IHaveAJosh
      @IHaveAJosh  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I got a nice triple-square set off Amazon. I did have to bend the one return line out of the way to get the socket on, and a long extension. Glad it helped!

    Did you use any shellac or high temp rtv?

    • @IHaveAJosh
      @IHaveAJosh  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not on these gaskets. They should already have a coating on them, and the little deformed ring is supposed to seal

    Nice lloking car. I have a mk5 06 with 395k miles. I have always had a small leak in that area, but much smaller that yours. I would say that there is something wrong with the flange side so no amount of pressure is going to seal it. Or it is the flange itself or turbo seal. Are they stock hoses? Le use know they outcome.That scratch may also have some bearing.on it.

    So my question like every car video on TH-cam, how is it 2 weeks later of driving? Did this actually fix your problem or was the oil leaking from somewhere else nearby?

    • @IHaveAJosh
      @IHaveAJosh  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This ended up actually being the problem. Months later we're still good!

  • @ponemark
    @ponemark 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The water pump in same area looks very like the one on my annoying leak I had. The water pump is also an oil cooler its a rubbish seal.

    I have the same problem, I think I keep positioning the gasket backwards. The little tabs go towards the engine or towards the outside?

    • @IHaveAJosh
      @IHaveAJosh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure - looking at the ones I have I think you're correct. Mine are stamped, so I put the "bumped out" side towards the block/turbo and the "bumped in" side towards the hose. Hope that helps!

    • @hectorherrera4909

      @@IHaveAJosh Hi this is a really nice video my friend my question is the stamped side goes towards the engine block ?

    • @IHaveAJosh
      @IHaveAJosh  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @hectorherrera4909 I just helped with another one of these recently. Looks like the tabs go up on the one that goes to the engine block, and pointing to the front of the motor in the turbo one. Hope that helps!

    What was the torque spec on the two oil return bolts going into turbo?

    • @IHaveAJosh
      @IHaveAJosh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      9 n-m (or 6.6ft-lb / 80 in-lb) . They're M6 bolts, so about 2 ugga-dugga or "slightly over hand-tight" by approximation

    Hi, Did this cause any engine code? Mine has been doing this for sometime, i got a mk6 jetta gli. I notice my oil leaks are coming from this area as well.

    • @IHaveAJosh

      No code on mine. I was just getting a huge puddle when I stopped

      It's an oil return line from the turbo to the pan so it shouldn't matter. Just make sure the car has had enough time to build pressure before getting on the boost.

    May I know where did you purchase the gasket, Please let me know the part number, I guess I have the same issue as you as everyone else, something isn’t right because leaking oil

      06F145757L for the upper gasket. Also used for the lower gasket of later engine codes (CCTA, CBFA etc.) in some Mk5s and (all?) Mk6s. 058145757A for the lower gasket in earlier (eg. BPY) engine codes.
      I just bought a couple of the upper gaskets from my local VW dealer, cheaper than ECS Tuning...

    Kind of a dumb question but do you have to drain the oil before you remove the return line?

    • @IHaveAJosh
      @IHaveAJosh  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No - it still has some oil in it, but it's above the oil level in the engine so it won't spill a ton of oil out... just enough to be inconvenient
