Rudnik is so beautiful, and he obviously trusts you enormously to keep him safe, especially with the bucket caught on his hoof. Because terrified horses can really hurt you and themselves. So glad all was well. I was looking after a friend’s 3 dog’s and my German Shepherd at the time his Rottweiler X German Shepherd she got her collar caught around an old tractor seat stool. She freaked out all I could hear was lots of loud bad sounding noise. But I was able to stop her and tell her to trust me that I will fix it, and with that she was still for me and I was able to free her without her getting injured. My heart was beating out of my chest, and hers the poor thing. I was with them for nearly 6 months as their Dad his Grandfather was dying in the city and then his oldest friend and a friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer at 42 and he never left the hospital for 8 weeks sitting with our mate. During that time the same dog she was made about chasing the ball she pushed her brother out of the way and nearly degloved her front paw, I took her in the car with me 40 min drive to the supermarket just to get some wound dressings as there was nothing in the house, and to clean the wound. He couldn’t afford the surgery the vet the next day was saying. But the vet told me there was no infection as I must have done a good job. So I healed her with pain relief and cleaning the wound and dressing the wound sterile pad with Manuka honey, it’s from a Manuka bush in NZ. It was a lot of work, I would bathe it in warm salty water and then redress it. She was so good she would hand me her paw everyday and then every 2nd day. Even now she always shows me that paw and that it’s all healed. She was so much like my German Shepherd who lived to the ripe old age of 18, I got her as a 6yr old former dumped puppy mill. I’m on my 5th rescue dog now. Thank goodness for them as they have saved me a million times more than I’ve helped them. My neighbour’s have horses and donkey’s across the road so I can get my Equine fix that way.

About the goofiness: my boy tried to get into our car one day. We'd just come back from a trail ride, and my mum was waiting for us to return. She drove a small Subaru (smaller than a Kia Soul) at the time. Twilight was a big boy (16.5 hands), yet he thought he could fit inside the tiny car. He did manage to get his head inside. I love the bond you and Rudnik have.

Watching Rudnik with you it looks like he is hugging you and really enjoying, how much he enjoyed you scratching him. This was one of my favorite videos as you talked to Rudnik about him from when you got him till now. You can tell the love is mutual, his eyes are beautiful as well as his color. He can definitely make you feel guilty leaving him😂😂. I always wanted a horse ( not realizing the work) that goes along owning one. He was really looking hard to find a treat😂😂. You look amazing so soon after Baby B being a Mommy looks great on you❤❤❤
You should have named him Joseph. Rudnik has a coat of many colours😊. He's looking good whatever the weather and it's very obvious you love and care for him exceptionally well. 👍
Oh my gosh! So glad Rudnick is chill, that could have ended very badly. *Thank you for sharing! It is so beautiful to see how much you and Rudnick love one another, he is truly part of your family and you and both "B"s are part of his! We can feel the love! Blessed Be!*
Your baby’s precious! As a former L&D nurse, I must say you did great! I’d love to see some photos of Rudnik when you first got him. I know it’d help us to appreciate how far he’s come. 11:16 His love for you is boundless.
I have tons of photos and some video clips of our early days together. I’ll have to put together a video showing just how far he’s come since then. It’s crazy because even when I watch the old clips back it’s hard to believe it’s the same boy 🥲
Despite the bucket incident, this was Lovely, thanks for sharing this time with Rudnik. I noticed when Rudnik was close to the camera just how thick and fluffy his coat is during cold weather. He has sideburns, the hair is so long and fluffy under his cheeks and jawbars! No wonder he's so black in Winter, that dark coat absorbs sunlight even through clouds, and helps him stay a little warmer. Horses are designed for all weather, barring a few very specialized breeds. Theya re fine in the snow and even rain.
He gets SO fluffy! Like a wooly mammoth. It’s why I’ve never had to worry about blanketing him. Which I’m thankful for because I can only imagine the trouble he’d get himself into then 🥲
@@rudniktheroan Oh yeah, he's big and strong but also has that silly streak and he likes to show off for his friends... no, a Blanket would be more trouble than support for him! And, he would look frumpy, Horse Blankets are functional, but rarely cute or attractive. Naked Horses are prettier than covered ones!
Chillin’ with Mom ❤ he’s so relaxed and didn’t even flinch when he got the bucket on his foot. It was cool to see him eat from a bucket, the crunching 😅 he’s such a tender soul and you showed him that he can be himself ❤❤
I have always talked to my animals like they are people. When I was a kid & all through high school we kept anywhere from 6 to 8 horses stalled at the local fairgrounds (along with our roping steers) during the winter to keep them available for work, they were clean, dry & easy to catch & also they were there for our weekly team roping that we hosted. Back then a lot of other people wintered their horses there also & while they did nothing to care for them, we had to feed, clean stalls, exercise, etc. it was still convenient. But I would be there cleaning stalls & people would hear me talking & poke their head in the stall to see who I was talking to. Even talked to the dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, goats, cattle, etc. like they understood every word. When I was a kid dad always said getting animals use to your voice helps them stay calm around you & it really does.
Obvious that he has bonded with you. Trusts you and likes hanging out with you. Good to see. Peace. Oh. Congrats to you and hubby on the baby. Very happy for you all. It will be quite a ride, enjoy it
Hi, my favorite horse and human family combo. U were just joking about the gelding giving you a heart attack, but it is best not even to say that in my opinion. If anything, our families including our animals make our hearts strong and our will unshakeable. That doesn't mean there won't be difficult days for pulling strength from our reserves. All a part of life. God bless you and yours.
This is an older video, I have a series I call ‘from the vault’ - I share older videos on the days I’m not able to see Rudnik or when I find videos I haven’t shared here yet. I know it can be confusing, so I started putting ‘FTV’ on the thumbnail photo of those videos along with ‘from the vault’ in the description. But I have so many good older videos that I want to share too so I figured this was a good way to help differentiate between older and newer videos 🙂 but thank you! I only hope I can get back into that shape again someday haha
Well, giant puppies who can stomp you if they want... LOL And I have been so happy to see you two. He seems like he just enjoys your company, working or not working.
Yup, you have a furry child. A paddock, turn out areas, or pasturage that you thought you had baby proofed. They can find all kinds of things to do that lead to boatloads of trouble. From tarps, buckets, and ends of metal fence posts to slick footing. The most innocent thing suddenly becomes a hazard in the blink of an eye. All while we watch how guickly it happens..
Have to say I don't miss the Alberta winters of youth, although kids like horses are so tough. He is so happy in the subzero. He's nice and beefy as well. Enjoy!
Thankfully where we live we have had a pretty mild winter until now. We just got our first little bit of snow and it’s been too cold to melt right away but until now we’ve had temps in the positives which i definitely won’t complain about 😂
Hi Alesia. I am an avid follower of another horse rescue channel & she says exactly same as u, she only puts a blanket on if its really needed & many of her horses, including my favourite Nigel, who is a Shetland, like being out rather than in, in cold weather. Her channel is The Clever Cowgirl, she is in Montana (Im UK), if u heard of her - as she is lovely person.
First of all, thank you for this video. This one seems to me to be different from the others. You spend the video talking about Rudnik and showing us your interaction with him whereas the others are spent showing us various things being done with Rudnik. This video introduces us more fully to your beautiful horse's personality and nature and I appreciate that knowledge. Secondly, although Rudnik's back is black (no surprise there), his belly appears to be brown. Is that correct or do I need a new computer? Just one other comment and I'm surprised that you did not pick up on this. Rudnik kicked his feed bucket! That's Rudnik saying, "Mom, I'm finished the entree, where are the carrots"? Years ago, I had a Cocker Spaniel and when he was hungry he would kick his bowl around the floor. That was my first lesson in the universal language, "Animal". Looking forward to more on your life with Rudnik.
I actually used to go LIVE on TikTok quite a bit over the past couple of years. Not so much anymore but I’ve found that I loved being able to chat and answer anyone’s questions who would join our LIVE. It felt a lot more personal. I’ve saved most of the clips from those LIVES because they usually answer a lot of questions people still have so I’ll usually reshare them ☺️ I’ve thought about doing LIVES here on TH-cam but life got a bit chaotic before I could really start and I’m not sure if there would be much interest in them And yes haha he gets sun-bleached on the ends of his coat in the winter which give him a brown/red appearance. In the summer because his fur is so short, all his black gets sun bleached and actually makes him look like a bay roan instead of blue - it’s quite fascinating seeing all the colour changes he goes through and how weather and temps affect it!
He’s got other horsey friends where he boards to keep him company but if we ever get our own place we’ll definitely be getting another to keep him company
Probably naive of me to feel this way, but I feel like I know Rudnik enought that I wasn't suprised at all he kept calm about the bucket around his foot. He just kinda looked at it like, "Oh. Oops. Let's get this off--wait, that didn't work. You got it, Mom? Ok cool." I was more worried about him slipping than panicking, glad that didn't happen either. I have 4 cats my husband and I raised since they were born, and we absoutely talk to them like they're our actual children. Our house rings with me saying at least once a day, "No ma'am!" or "No sir!" lol They'll all be 11 years old this April. They know all the rules to the house and our black kitty Leo learned how to use his voice to convey tone just like humans do. We know how he's feeling at all times just from how he sounds. Wade also learned years ago that we paid more attention to intense growling (cuz sometimes there were fights before everyone got neutered/spayed) so he'd use that to get our attention. We got wise to it, now he uses it for play noises lol Wade is one of those naturally loud cats and he will actively try to outdo me since I'm also naturally loud xD;; Edit: I say "raised" but they did have a mom, she was a stray we took in, but she eventually left on her own and her litter stayed with us.
ps "B" is in great shape having learned to be a horseman from you! btw, it feels the same when you have to drive away from visiting your grown children, you are just practicing for the future A. Love and light to you all! Blessed Be!
I've always talked to my furry friends like they were young humans. Every single one has been an exceptional companion. Intelligence, instinct and intuition all finely tuned. I said good bye when I left and greeted them when returning. If one walked into a room they were acknowledged. A very big part of our little family. Raised in respect and love and TALKED TO! Just like I talked to my toddler. He had a high school vocabulary in the 2nd grade. It works on humans, too. I think it sets their brains up for nuances in language and speech that those who aren't talked to a lot just don't catch. It trains their ears to your inflections as well. "Come here" can have a very different mood and meaning when you have a treat for them or when they wander towards the street. Help them learn the differences by talking your silly head off. I narrated washing dishes and cleaning the bathroom to my infant. Our journey in the car, why we had to hurry or not hurry. Neurons firing, synapses connecting in growing brains is a really good thing.
I love that! I’m the same with our dogs too - I’ve always talked to them as if they understand every word I say and sometimes I swear they do. If my dog is wanting me to get her a treat or her toy but I’m busy I’ll say ‘go ask dad’ and she immediately runs over to my fiancé and starts whining at him 😂 lecture them like children to behave and watch the house when we leave and ask them if they behaved when I get home haha. I swear they do understand so much more than we realize. Especially the more you talk to them, they learn patterns and what specific words mean so quickly. I lived on my own for a few years with just my two dogs and I’d go days without seeing people. One way I stayed sane was by having conversations with my dogs - obviously they couldn’t respond but they’d listen and it was extremely therapeutic for me
You just had a baby, please take care of yourself. After the first child you still feel like you are ok but it takes months for your body to be ok. Glad this big baby is doing well. I can see how nice his coat is. Hope the little one is doing well too. Sending lots of love.
@@fleetskipper1810 Good to know. I was worried that she is so out and about with the baby just a few week old. It must be the old Asian grandma in me....😂💕
I am 100% convinced that ANY animal/pet can find mischief trouble, no matter how hard us simple humans try to keep them from it? ;-) We'd tie-out our Mini to graze on the front lawn (We didn't have it fenced), but we'd be out there, with him, because inevitably he'd get himself tangled. The moment it happened, right before he'd hit that 'Fight or FLIGHT' reaction, we'd calmly stand up, talking to him, 'Easy, easy, we've got you...' That was enough of a distraction from the evil, life-threatening 'Thing' that had his hoof/leg trapped, to let us reach him and via touch/voice, keep him calm while we freed him. It got to the point the moment we'd start talking (Chanting? Seems too silly a word to apply, but?...), "Easy, easy, we've got you.." He'd just stop, stand, peering over at us patiently waiting. Saved him and us a LOT of trouble, and it only came from our spending so much time working with him, letting him see he was 'Safe' and we were there to help/feed/care for him. A very deep sense of belonging to a 'Herd' that wasn't going to hurt him, abuse or neglect him. Pee Wee was hardly the perfect horse. He was a Stallion, and he had some bad manners we never totally cured him of (VERY defensive 'Eater,' for instance). But he did come a long, long way from the neglected/abused/mistreated equine we rescued, and I'm absolutely certain most animals CAN make a come back, and will learn to love/trust their Human(s) if given the chance. Rudnik is such a character, and you're perceptive enough to realize he's more 'Aware' of you/things than most people give horses credit for. Still, 'Mischief' and he will always be trying to cuddle up, so you gotta stay alert! :-)
Aw that’s amazing! And they rely so much on us in situations like that too, if we panic then they’ll definitely panic. So trying to remain calm and not letting that fear enter your voice can be such a challenge. But if you’re able to keep yourself calm - or at least convince them you are lol - they’ll usually be less likely to react. Sometimes all they need is reassurance that ‘if they’re not scared, I don’t need to be scared’
It was just the area near the gate in the pasture not his paddock but yes it can be scary but hard to avoid when we get snow, then it melts and then freezes again. We have a lot of cold days followed by mild days
Basically, his hair oils are keeping the water away from his skin, and the ice on the outside is keeping him warm like an igloo. I built an igloo once as a kid and it was amazing how comfortable it was inside. I would worry more about the ice on the ground than on him.
I actually didn’t know the specifics and science behind it so thank you! That’s really cool to know! The ice is definitely an unfortunate result of our cold-then-mild winter days we get up here. Thankfully it doesn’t usually stick round long once the sun comes out
@@rudniktheroan Hee. Yeah. Back in the 1970's or so we would get some pretty deep snows here. One time it was deep and got such a thick crust of ice, I just dug all the snow out and crawled in. Then when we got actual packing snow, I built my igloo. Kid me wanted to see if eskimos were nuts or not. They're not. :)
@@rudniktheroan Though I think if he wasn't producing enough oils, or was dirty so the water would get past the oils, or was just soaked and THEN it froze, he might have problems...or he'd just have ice shell on the outside and wet inside and he's just able to tolerate above freezing water since the ice shell would prevent the cooling of evaporation.
I just noticed that reddish tinge on the lower half of his body…….is that new or did I just miss it earlier? What a great horse he is……I would love to have a twin of him!😂😂
I’ve always loved horses but have only had them since I was about 13/14. But before that my adhd hyper fixation was reading/watching & learning as much as I could about them 😂
Your name is spelled Alycia? Have you always filmed Rudnik? How long have you had this channel? Have you recovered completely from the delivery? In this video, I love how Rudnik stands so still while you pet him. I also like that you just hang out with Rudnik. I think he gives to you as much as you have given to him.
It’s actually spelled Alesia, so it’s different for sure haha. I’ve always filmed him but we just started posting to TH-cam last year, though the channel was around before that, I wasn’t posting until last year. Still working on my recovery. I’m about 2 weeks into the 6 week recovery journey so still having to remind myself to slow down and not get too ahead of myself. Thank you! ☺️ I’m glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much for watching 💞
I know from watching another video of yours that his coloring changes seasonally from dark to light. But why is his belly reddish brown?? I don't mean he isn't the way he should be, but I didn't know he'd get a brown belly. His color changes are amazing to me. Oh, I see he's reddish brown on his neck too. Such a handsome and interesting fellow.
Sometimes his hair sun bleaches. It happens in the summer too, we can get pretty intense sun even in the winter which can cause his black hair to go brown 🙂
When playing with my dog, he instinctively knows not to bite hard on my hands or fingers. He knows to lightly nibble with little pressure. Does Rudnik (or any horse actually) know & learn to do the same thing when your hands are on his nose or mouth area? Has any horse ever bitten you by accident when feeding them by hand?
If I could have handed them to you through the screen I would have given you my ice cleats. They fit over your boots or shoes so you don’t slip on the ice. I was scared you were going to slip and bust your backside.
I actually finally found the pair I have! With all the packing we have going on in preparation for our move next month, everything’s kind of been everywhere but I finally found them! I’m throwing them in my car so I always have them because we tend to get a lot of icy days in the winter with so many cold-mild days
If this isnt an older video I have to say my gosh you look incredible after just having a baby! No baby weight left...skin clear, you bouncrd back so wonderfully...congratulations!! As for Rudnick...well what can I say? Hes just perfect..ornery and wonderful!! Love him!

You should have named him Joseph. Rudnik has a coat of many colours😊. He's looking good whatever the weather and it's very obvious you love and care for him exceptionally well. 👍
I got the chills looking at your weather and the icy ground🥶. He's the sweetest boy!
Oh my gosh! So glad Rudnick is chill, that could have ended very badly.
*Thank you for sharing! It is so beautiful to see how much you and Rudnick love one another, he is truly part of your family and you and both "B"s are part of his! We can feel the love! Blessed Be!*
It was a hold-your-breath moment for sure 🥲
I love the close up shots. I’m seeing colors I haven’t noticed before. Makes him even prettier.
His love for you, and yours for him, is very obvious. ❤
💞
So happy that you have instilled such a calmness in him. As you said, this could have gone horribly wrong quickly. Bravo to you for your success
Thank you! It’s even more amazing when you know just how ‘crazy’ he was when I first adopted him at 11 months old. So proud of how far he’s come ♥️
@ He has come this far because of you. He is just the best boy. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you 🥹💞
@@rudniktheroan ❤️🐴❤️
Chillin’ with Mom ❤ he’s so relaxed and didn’t even flinch when he got the bucket on his foot. It was cool to see him eat from a bucket, the crunching 😅 he’s such a tender soul and you showed him that he can be himself ❤❤
Yayyyy my Rudnik time ❤❤❤❤❤
I have always talked to my animals like they are people.
He is such a beautiful horse!! ❤
I tried to find your first videos but wasn't successful. One year ago was the oldest I could find.
I was smiling the whole video he’s just so precious love his little ears ❤ & You look Fabulous! 😊
He truly is a sweetie! What a lovely horse!
Love your videos. Living through you. I’m old but I always wanted a horse☺️
He reminds me of a toddler at playgroup. Desperate for you not to leave but happily playing after you've gone
100% 😂
He sure is enjoying the scratches!❤ I knew he was related to me!
Loved hearing how you trained him with the halter.
If anything, our families including our
animals make our hearts strong and our will unshakeable. That doesn't mean there won't be difficult days for pulling strength from our reserves. All a part of life. God bless you and yours.
That is very true, thank you for the reminder 💞
You look like you were never pregnant! Good vibes with you two! Stay warm! Rare cold and snow in SC!
He’s such a loving little goofball
Congratulations to all so very cute rooster
He is just the coolest, sweetest, big goofy lump!
He is very handsome in any weather. He loves you very much.❤❤❤
Well, giant puppies who can stomp you if they want... LOL And I have been so happy to see you two. He seems like he just enjoys your company, working or not working.
You look FANTASTIC! ♡
We just got our first little bit of snow and it’s been too cold to melt right away but until now we’ve had temps in the positives which i definitely won’t complain about 😂
@@rudniktheroan Ahh you're lucky. Go north!!
Looks like he had a “Day at the Spa!”😊😊😅😅
I’ve heard so many great things about her channel! I really should check her out 🥰
First of all, thank you for this video.
I’ve saved most of the clips from those LIVES because they usually answer a lot of questions people still have so I’ll usually reshare them ☺️
I’ve thought about doing LIVES here on TH-cam but life got a bit chaotic before I could really start and I’m not sure if there would be much interest in them
And yes haha he gets sun-bleached on the ends of his coat in the winter which give him a brown/red appearance. In the summer because his fur is so short, all his black gets sun bleached and actually makes him look like a bay roan instead of blue - it’s quite fascinating seeing all the colour changes he goes through and how weather and temps affect it!
He’s my favorite cuddle bug! He may not understand all you’re saying, but he certainly loves getting scratches. 😊
Horid weather ; wonderful vibe
Time to start looking at ponies❤❤
Rudnik might enjoy the companionship😊
He’s got other horsey friends where he boards to keep him company but if we ever get our own place we’ll definitely be getting another to keep him company
@rudniktheroan
That baby is going to want a horsey of his own.
I have 4 cats my husband and I raised since they were born, and we absoutely talk to them like they're our actual children. Our house rings with me saying at least once a day, "No ma'am!" or "No sir!" lol They'll all be 11 years old this April. They know all the rules to the house and our black kitty Leo learned how to use his voice to convey tone just like humans do. We know how he's feeling at all times just from how he sounds. Wade also learned years ago that we paid more attention to intense growling (cuz sometimes there were fights before everyone got neutered/spayed) so he'd use that to get our attention. We got wise to it, now he uses it for play noises lol Wade is one of those naturally loud cats and he will actively try to outdo me since I'm also naturally loud xD;;
Edit: I say "raised" but they did have a mom, she was a stray we took in, but she eventually left on her own and her litter stayed with us.
Wet horses smell MUCH better than wet dogs. Filthy horses smell better than slightly dusty, damp dogs. 💕
This is very true
His coat is soo pretty.
He needs to be with you however you can make that happen I pray it does - for both of you...
Be careful on that ice!
ps "B" is in great shape having learned to be a horseman from you!
btw, it feels the same when you have to drive away from visiting your grown children, you are just practicing for the future A.
Love and light to you all! Blessed Be!
Some micro spikes would go along way on that ice. We got that at my place this year too. I so don’t want to break a hip lol
I agree with you if you have a flat shoes it's probably harder but if they have corks on them they're probably better
This is an old video-before she got pregnant.
@@fleetskipper1810 Good to know. I was worried that she is so out and about with the baby just a few week old. It must be the old Asian grandma in me....😂💕
Another issue with shoes in winter, snow can build up in the hoof so the shoe no longer touches the surface and that can be catastrophic....
I am 100% convinced that ANY animal/pet can find mischief trouble, no matter how hard us simple humans try to keep them from it? ;-)
We'd tie-out our Mini to graze on the front lawn (We didn't have it fenced), but we'd be out there, with him, because inevitably he'd get himself tangled.
@@rudniktheroan
'xactly!
^5!
:-D
That ice in his paddock is scary
It was just the area near the gate in the pasture not his paddock but yes it can be scary but hard to avoid when we get snow, then it melts and then freezes again. We have a lot of cold days followed by mild days
@@rudniktheroan understood completely..just hoping you are both safe..ice is such a pain!
What a great horse he is……I would love to have a twin of him!😂😂
Love this!! Did you grow up around horses?
I’ve always loved horses but have only had them since I was about 13/14. But before that my adhd hyper fixation was reading/watching & learning as much as I could about them 😂
he's your first baby ❤
He is gorgeous.
He doesn’t need a blanket. Not with that coat. He got good weight and a thick coat. And he is healthy. GO RUDNIK ❤
❤❤❤
When playing with my dog, he instinctively knows not to bite hard on my hands or fingers. He knows to lightly nibble with little pressure. Does Rudnik (or any horse actually) know & learn to do the same thing when your hands are on his nose or mouth area? Has any horse ever bitten you by accident when feeding them by hand?
He really is a sweet boy‼️😍😍😍😍How old is Rudnik now?
6! He’ll be 7 in May 🙂
😂😂😂😊
Sniffle sniffle sniffle...
🧊⛸️❄️
Does he drink less water 💧 in the winter ❄️
Usually - sometimes he’ll also snack on snow too 😂
If I could have handed them to you through the screen I would have given you my ice cleats. They fit over your boots or shoes so you don’t slip on the ice. I was scared you were going to slip and bust your backside.
I actually finally found the pair I have! With all the packing we have going on in preparation for our move next month, everything’s kind of been everywhere but I finally found them! I’m throwing them in my car so I always have them because we tend to get a lot of icy days in the winter with so many cold-mild days
next time bring cookies.
If this isnt an older video I have to say my gosh you look incredible after just having a baby! No baby weight left...skin clear, you bouncrd back so wonderfully...congratulations!! As for Rudnick...well what can I say? Hes just perfect..ornery and wonderful!! Love him!
Haha thank you, Unfortunately it is an older video - I only wish I could bounce back this fast 🥲
