I haven’t seen him in 2 wks but he just couldn’t handle being away from his gf for even 10 minutes🥲
Due to the poor weather we’ve had over the last few weeks and as I get closer to the impending due date (just over 5 weeks now!) it’s been about 2 weeks since I last got to see Rudnik.
We’d also been away for a few days visiting my family that I haven’t seen since the spring because they live across the country. Thankfully the farm owner has been sending me regular updates and videos while I was unable to make it out but I was happy to finally get to see my boy again.
Unfortunately Rudnik was more concerned about the fact that he was taken away from his girlfriend for a whole 10 minutes while we visited 😂

Not to mention the fact that all of our organs are LITERALLY shoved and smooshed up under our ribs and somehow our bodies are still able to (somewhat) function. Then it’s a surprise when a woman complains about being uncomfortable - like do they think this it tickles? 🥲 This may not be every woman’s experience, but I know that it is for many including myself as I come up on 34 weeks. This is on...

Once my pregnancy is over and I’m able to be a bit more active again, it’s back to square one Mr. Rudnik. We are all awaiting the announcement. Handfeeding horses may not be common in Canada, but in the States, it is not uncommon. I'm subscribed to a site where they have a horse farm in Missouri and even have some Clydesdales they have rescued. One who is an intact stallion was a yearling when they got him and was in bad shape. But with care and nutrition he has recovered and now almost 4 and close to 2000 pounds, they hand fed him some treats very early on. I also watch the Helping Albertas Wildies Society site. A stallion will smell the poop of a mare, then pee on it then step forward and raise his head to let every one know she belongs to him. So, smelling the poop may be second nature to geldings, but not the last two steps.

    I saw your story on the dodo as well. I love this story. And I'm so glad that you found somebody willing to share one of your passions. I think it's important that we open up our hearts and minds to things that our partners love, that we may not understand or love. It's part of what makes us better people, and better partners! And I hope there are many, many years with rudnick and B and of course you! 😊

    I love the parts about hand feeding and personal space. My horse is conscious of where he places his feet, especially when I'm wearing sandals but yet a lot people would say the same thing... personal space or don't hand feed. i"ve had my horse 29 years, 30 really because I had his mum. After this long... NONE of the rules matter kinda, he just knows how to care now and very respectful. COMPLETELY different story for other people with him though, he will test them on their confidence and won't even let other people catch him.

    Yeah, those last several weeks are for fine tuning the baby’s remaining systems, and packing on the final pounds. My 2 babies were born 6.5 and 7 weeks early, respectively (preeclampsia both times 😳😬), and were both about 4.5 lbs at birth. (In lbs, normal weight is 6-8? lbs.). So they missed out on that final weight gain. Giving birth was easier I imagine (nothing to compare it to) but 3 weeks in the NICU was not a good trade off. Hang in there, you’re almost at this finish line! And for the record, I didn’t particularly enjoy being pregnant either. Wonderful to see you again! Gave me a nice little break during preparations for tomorrow.

    The only time I've ever seen a problem with hand feeding is a horse that is always into your personal space. I know there are trainers who say NEVER!!! Every horse is different and unique. And the same horse that maybe doesn't respect person A will totally respect person B. Blanket statements: Always, every time, etc., aren't.

    Things happen for a reason we don’t always understand, but Rudnik having to leave his old boarding site was definitely a good reason. You can’t see him as often but he’s got lots of friends and someone who keeps you updated on how he’s doing. I think all that’s the reason it happened like it did. Good luck in the coming weeks. Hope your birthing is a smooth one and that your little cowboy is perfect.

    OK! Right off the bat, I'm going to admit that my knowledge of horses is limited and what knowledge I have gained has been through your videos. Frankly, over the course of my viewing your posts, I have been amazed at the intelligence and affection that Rudnik has displayed. Now, as I said, I am not familiar (my loss) with horses and do not know what to expect from them. So let me ask you, is Rudnik an equine Einstein or would you expect the same level of communication and bonding with any horse that was treated with the same loving care as you have treated Rudnik?

    I had to come out of “lurky turkey” mode to share the guffaw I had at around 5:05 concerning treats. lol. I felt that “pregnant pause” & you keep doing what’s right between you & Rudnik. You know your horse, he knows not to chomp on ya thumb & both of you have come so far because you trust one another. ❤ You keep doing what you can, when you can & Rudnik will be ready to amaze us all some more. Rest as much as you can now that you’re in the home stretch & be patient w/ yourself. Hey, has Rudnik tried parsnips? My buddy’s horse is on a diet & as I’m that kinda dork that likes to give the horses treats, they asked me to only give him parsnip pieces as they’re lower in “sugar” & calories but has that carroty flavor horses love. ✌️

    💥 You may not feel it but you look great. These last weeks are the toughest. Make time to get off your feet each day. Time to put your hospital bag together and have it ready to go. Hopefully you have completed Lamaze classes and you and B are feeling more confident about the babies arrival. B can spend some time with Rudnik now, this is the time he needs to get into the habit of helping with him. Once the baby comes you will be too busy and tired to get out there even every two weeks. His schedule will be a little freer. Have him start now while you still feel like going - he needs to be 100% hands on at this juncture so YOU are comfortable when he is taking care of Rudnik on his own...time is short now. But you all look great! Cheers! And since I know you are in Canada, I wont bother with Thanksgiving greetings! How about God save us from Donald J Trump and his Tariffs instead? 💥

    All it takes is one mistake of getting behind the horses legs like that. Fiance needs to take gentle instructions, like a horse, for his own safety. The ER nurse I babysat for on a horse farm got kicked and trampled, ending both her careers, dont be sensitive to criticism or gentle corrections. Funny, you expect animals to obey them, but not humans

    • @rudniktheroan
      @rudniktheroan วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@pinschrunner he was just fine and my horse is trained well enough to not freak out over something as minor as that. I would never let him behind a horse that was a risk of kicking otherwise. You can’t baby your horses they need to be used to and familiar with different situations and scenarios. Everyone has to start somewhere and a well trained horse has all the patience in the world for a beginner. It’s not being sensitive to criticism, it’s knowing that tiptoeing around horses won’t get you anywhere. They’re trained to be ‘bombproof’ for a reason. Anything can go wrong in any situation with a horse no matter how ‘correctly’ or cautiously you’re doing anything. It’s our job as their owners and trainers to train them to be prepared for anything. If something’s going to happen to set them off, it’ll happen either way.

Horses that are hand fed learn to view you and your hands as treats dispensers and will be constantly chasing you down and trying to bite at your hands, pockets, etc.. You also need to teach them to respect and stay out of your personal space. They are big animals and can really hurt you if they bite or run into you. I have been bitten and kicked by my little mini horse because I was hand feeding him and he is very food aggressive. I have learned to have him back off, put the treats on the ground or in a shallow bucket, and keep myself an arm's length away. Watch Steve Young's training videos. He has a lot to say about this matter.

      So, he’s not nippy. And there’s nothing wrong with hand feeding horses. I know some trainers advise against it but when done correctly there’s nothing wrong with it unless your horse has food aggression or biting issues, which Rudnik has neither of. Yes I will admit when hand feeding you should hold your hand out further from your body but just because some believe it’s best not to hand feed does not make it’s wrong. Rudnik also has very good person space. He knows the difference between when we’re playing and when we’re not. Play time, we shove each other around and have fun. No one gets carried away or hurt. But day to day he respects personal space and is corrected if he doesn’t. Your points are valid but not all training methods are applicable to everyone as everyone has their own way of doing things. If it wasn’t my own horse that I raised and trained myself and trust more than anything, it would be a different situation.
