Thanks for doing that. My husband and I rescue horses, fostering and adopting them, mostly retired racehorses. Currently we have a retired racehorse that ran over 60 races. I ride him on trails. Retired thoroughbreds make wonderful trail horses because they're well trained, spook proof, and thinking. Eager to go forward. Never stubborn or lazy/slow. Also we have retired competition roper, who basically just gets to live a simple life because he has DSLD. We've brought back many of them from starvation and neglect.
I'm an older horse owner with a 24 yr old metabolic Connemara gelding with dental issues. Matt - this was an excellent and informative video that was very fun plus provided clear health management for this young horse owner. I was glad to hear your helpful comments to be aware for sugar and rich grass diet concerns. Well done and very impressive results!
I don't have horses and never had one. An exfriend of mine abandoned her horses at our house. I told her that she can bring her horses to our house since our property use to horses. We told her that she had to take care of the needs of the horses. We can feed them as long as she provides everything. After she brought the horses to our property, I never saw her again. We ended up doing everything for the horses. Thankfully we had connections to get hay cubes and feed for them. We also have friends that have horses and my husband and I rescue dogs. Anyhow, long story short, I've been watching your channel and a few other horse channels in case someone tries to do that again. This video was very helpful just in case I ever find myself in that kind of situation. We did end up sending the horses to Best Friends Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah in the US. Is there this line of products in the United States? We do donate to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary here in Utah. They have all kinds of animals, horses included.
@63angel Wow, thanks for sharing that powerful experience. Sorry about your ex friend, certainly not a real friend to you (or horses) to do that to you. You are a truly amazing and caring human being to help those horses after they were abandoned.💚
Good grief. That needed urgent action didn't it? Good job you had the space. Thank goodness you had the empathy your ex friend lacked. Thank you for your kindness. It all could have turned out so differently for those horses.🫂❤️🇬🇧
What a story. I cannot imagine such a thing happening but people do things we don’t expect all the time. Glad you took care of them. I love gathering the horse knowledge even though I doubt I’ll ever be around horses again. I find it all so interesting (but am not interested in certain disciplines or areas of the horse world.)

Another happy owner and a horse that has already changed a lot in 3 months thanks to Hartog's precious advice and their quality food 👍👌 I wish Merlin and his owner all the best 💫 Thanks to Hartog and Matt! 💯💙
You are so great for the horse world! Coming from British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦 🍁 Love watching the videos. It’s neat to see how things are done on the other side of the world. I wish it was more like this here! Everything is so much nicer and sophisticated! I learn so much from watching your video’s it inspires me to do better! ❤
Thinking this collaboration with Hartog is a great thing! Really enjoy watching and learning about the different issues horses and their humans have to tackle in order to get the most out of the relationship. Looks like Merlin and his human are off to a good start. Matt, Thanks for taking us along, see you soon!🐴💕🌾👍
I USED TO DO HORSE Riding almost 4 years ago now... I always watched you're content back in the day. But even now, when I'm not around the horses that much anymore, I still really enjoy the content you put out. Very interesting to watch. Thank you
@gretawiding3565Not a weird thing to say. You are the leader with your horses. You move their feet they don't move your feet. They honor respect and structure.
Hello Matt from our farm in Central ⛵ Lakes Region New Hampshire. I agree with the comments regarding shavings vs straw. I always used shavings. Then I knew what my horses were eating, plus shavings were super easy to pick out. I am glad you are diversifying onto other horse related enterprises. Representing reputable feed companies is a great idea. It helps all involved. I hope that you and Jesse are making progress with moving. May the weather be in your favor. We were 15 degrees below zero F yesterday. Waiting patiently for 🌱 spring! ~ Diane
Although diet is a factor, watching her interact with her horse, he does seem to push a lot on her and move her feet so I think more ground work is needed too to establish more leadership.
Sometimes I wish we could get feeds and supplements here in New Zealand that you have over there, I feel like more testing etc goes into it, although I know different climates etc make a difference, they just sound really good.
Hello, in the videos of Pferdephysiotherapie Hof Eicheneck often horses are already less bloated after first day since they do not use straw to stand on : horses eat that and get bloated, maybe that helps ❤👍
Use different bedding. Straw can cause bloating 😊 Good quality hay is a must 😊 No haylage. Causes bloating as well. Use a hay steamer to reduce sugar in hay. But please no haylage 🙈😊 make sure his metabolism is working properly. Here I can recommend GladiatorPlus as a supplement. :)
My opinion, but I would put down shavings as bedding vs. hay because he will always eat it thinking that he will be deprived of food from one day to the next (even though it will always provide it) | He will overcome this in time, but a proper diet (as this video states) is key and it looks like the current owner has just what the doctor ordered! | I'm sure that everything with him will work out as he is clearly in good hands! 👍🐎
Absolutely yes. Over hyped products and nothing new. Probably way too rich for that pony - who needs loads more exercise, soaked hay and a grazing muzzle if he’s out at grass. His ribs were nowhere to be seen!
Too bad Hartog is not a available to most of the viewers of this commercial… also most parts of the world the diets look very different. In NL horses eat grass hay and pasture whereas in large parts of US, there is no grass and horses eat alfalfa or oathay. Straw is also not common in US as bedding.
Haylage is never good. If it is wrapped in plastic (the big marshmellows), it does not get air and the microbes that develop in that proces make the intestine too sour (ph level too low). So never give haylage (voordroog), even if it is dry. That does not matter, it is the fact it doesn't get air that matters.
I don't know nothing about horse's diet but an another subject concerns me. An agressive behavior around the food can be caused by deprivation, yes... but it's also and more often a problem with the relation between the horse and the owner... Merlin seems very pushy with this young lady. He doesn't respect at all her space.... In less than a minute, he moved her a lot... because she's not a leader for him. So it's very logic, in his head, that he has to protect his food from her... like he could do with a more submissive horse. It's very vdangerous if a horse acts with a human like he does with a horse.... This young girl seems to love Merlin, but she needs to learn to be the leader (with some ground work and maybe some help if shes doesn't know nothing about horseman ship). Leadership doesn't mean violence... it means respect and safety for both of them, Merlin and his owner.
Ridden only four times a week! Poor horse is bored and will eat to compensate for attention and action, the sweet young lady obviously loves Merlin but he needs another rider with more time to keep him busy and fit.
@@dutchhorsetvhorses in the wild move constantly - 40 miles a day is not unheard of. Being ridden four times a week is nowhere near enough for a weight loss and fitness programme.

This is so wonderful Matt. You are a beautiful soul!

Hi Matt I love your video and I love on you are helping people with they're horses
“He retains a lot of moisture”. Cute.
Merlin is looking great! He is a beauty as is his owner. Thanks, Matt.
I've always thought Matt would make a good TV host or working in media of some kind.
I'm glad this series continues 😊
Ooh what a difference in Merlin’s shape! He looks amazing!

Every video is a huge pleasure ❤❤❤
Thank you for the lovely video señor!!!❤️
She is so well spoken. Is she Dutch!? Well well thank you for the Hartog commercial.. that is eleven minutes i never get back 😂
Up his exercise. Soak the hay for at least an hour rinse drain and feed. He needs a grazing muzzle if he is out at grass.
Well done Matt 🥰
Brilliant! 🤩
wow, HE LOOKS AMAZING!!!!
No, he’s quite overweight. Shiny though.
This is amazing 👏 Matt you're amazing ❤🇨🇦

That intro tho😍
Merlin is beautiful!
Wow she is so beautiful her horse looks good too.🤣
Beatris is adorable. She looks a little like Chappell Roan!
One min ago ❤ also love you Matt ❤
I think I need Hartog for myself. 😊
Did they mention pre and probiotics?
Matt are you willing to come to South Africa for the horses feed analysis ?😂
03:45 What kind of horse? A mustang?
Was this a giant commercial?
We thought it was interesting until it turned into a commercial. We switched to something else.

If Matt would learn to say "we« instead of "I" he would be 50% better.
Firstttt❤
Third 😁
@Jemma-lb5on second Ireland 4 extra points 🤣
She needs more help with her self. Marilyn shouldn’t be able to step in her space and move her feet. 3:36
