Can I give 1000 thumbs up? I know your video is six years old, but I just found it, and the design is simple and pure genius. The incorporation of the household vacuum cleaner is impressive. Amazing.
Hi! I first watched this video some 7 months ago. I ended up buying a small commercially made spray booth, but it is smaller than I'd like. I revisited your video, not because I plan to build one out of a cardboard box, but because you hit on some points and inspired some ideas. Also, some of the comments were helpful, too. I appreciated your video. Sorry there are so many jerks out there posting rude comments.
Theme park scenic artist and automotive painter from Florida here, just wanted to say I love the videos! Great stuff for beginning airbrush artists and even for the pro. I love it! Keep it up, I’m subscribing .
Thanks, I am looking at a cardboard box and some RC bodies here, I am new to spray painting and was thinking about how to proceed and did a google search. This was exactly what I needed and definitely worth watching till the end with your added features. You have great audio - clarity and voice - and good pace. I just had some moments until I deciphered "shop vac" (shotback? chophack?) - non native English speaker. :D Thanks again!
Loved your video and your cost effective ideas. I've been looking at small paint booths to purchase but was shocked at the price so your idea definitely suits my budget better. Might I mention that you are super beautiful as well!😍😁 Have a great day!
I agree with carzanian! What!!! he commented 2 years ago!!!! You deserve way more comments than 96??? But anyway, I digress. You are both Gorgeous and talented.
I am going to use the white plastic cardboard like you can get from Home Depot for the box. It will allow light to come in and stays ridged. Great info. Thanks
Great video for us beginners, i'm doing the same sort of thing, making a test booth at low cost, modifying it ( several times ) and soon will make a great one from wood. i like the clear top idea, like the last suction fan unit. Gotta find a way to do all that and have the fan outside the room i work in and a way to filter the air well enough to have it exhaust in my garage.mmmm
I made my own spray booth and use my shop vac to draw out the fumes. I tried using it indoors but my wife still couldn't stand the fumes from the lacquer based paints. Acrylics don't produce the same smells so I can still use it for acrylics and the wife doesn't complain. I made a chamber in the back, sealed off from the rest of the booth and made a hole so my shop vac would fit. I have a square of filter material attached with a couple of skewers so it's easily changed.
Go to Wal Mart or even the Dollar Store and pick up a Large Plastic Tub instead of a cardboard box. Over time the box will break down depending on what you are spraying into it. Also watch the solvents that you spray! Solvent based paints and open brush motors do not mix! The solvent will eventually clog or cling to the motor brushes and possible causing a fire. If you will only spray water based acrylic paints you will have no problems with brush motors. If you can find a closed brushed motor you are okay. I got a hold of a fireplace motor fan that was for a Gas fireplace and I used that for my motor for my Spray paint booth.
I graduated from a cardboard box to a North Coast Hobbies galvanized booth around 1991. The booth sports a 395 cfm Dayton blower for exhaust. Used 5" galvanized furnace pipe to direct the fumes outside. 2 GE Lightstics provide ample lighting. 2 Paasche & 2 Iwata airbrushes handle the painting chores. They are all powered by a Speedaire 20 gallon compressor. Spent the $$ back then, take care of my investments & it still performs flawlessly to this day, 27 years later. You can no longer buy the booth, Lightstics & the compressor is no longer made in the USA.
so my requirements for shop vac and new girlfriend area the same then, they must suck.,. :) Very nice tut, I really enjoyed listening to your voice and mannerisms... Also amazon and grab a small bathroom ventilation fan for like $9 however you should still wear a RESPERIATOR future painters even with a spray booth, the pros do! Especially if your using enamels or lacquers Thanks for the video... funny thing is I did even think of using my shop vac this way, I usually just leave it my garage to vacuum my car out.. lol. KEEP THE VIDS COMING MAMA GOOD JOB
Hi,Nice and cheap way to build a booth . You mentioned about types of paint because of vapors/fumes can/may cause fire if any motor are nearby, but what about the exhaustor/fan and the compressor...?Also, it would not be even more save if you add another fan in front of the booth blowing towards the end of it to avoid fumes/vapors staying in the room...? Thanks a lot
+Comicguy Hi, any motors plus ignitable fumes could be an issue..but airbrush artists have been using compressors with flammable paint for years...so that doesn't seem to be a big issue..although if there is enough concentration of vapors it's a problem for lots of reasons. I do often put a fan blowing the paint into the spray booth from behind me. It can work great if you find just the right spot, but it can also make the paint go out into the room too much if it's too powerful or too close. Hope this helps!--Alisa
Thanks a lot Alisa, it really helped! Now with all due respect, I think you seems very nice and very cute : )Thanks again for your help, take care.-Osmar
Just an FYI but I had a conversation with a relative not long ago about the issue of the flammable solvents from a spray paint can being sucked into the fan. He works as the person who goes into large factories and points out all the fire and safety issues and is a member of NFPA with many years of experience and specialized training. First, in the case of your centrifugal fan unit, the solvents won't pass over the motor, thus there is no ignition source as there would be with a Shop Vac or box fan. Second, any air fuel mix needs to have the correct ratio to burn. He said I would probably have to spray at least a half dozen cans simultaneously to come even close to a combustible mix. Third, it will never, ever "explode". That is what hand grenades do. There are a couple of videos of bug bomb fumes igniting, watch those. So spray away with whatever you want to use.
+sf9898u thanks for that great info! All the same, I would feel responsible if this ever happened to anyone I influenced! Glad it's probably not going to happen.-Alisa
I'm going to start airbrushing in my brick shed, do I need to fit it out with an extractor fan? And should I always wear a mask? My shed is 7 foot square
Why not use a plastic storage box (rubbermaid-tupperware etc.)for the paint booth instead of a cardboard box? How about attaching the filter to the inside of the box. It would be much simpler to change when needed. There would be no need to duct tape things up and reduct tape every time you change the filter. Just food for thought.
Like rick said, tape filter material on inside so it's easier to replace. Also with the bag being so large on the back, use more of the filter with a larger hole and surface area you won't have to change the filter as often as there's more surface to get clogged.
how about using an air filter for a home heat air unit say 20 x 20 x 1 on inside of box. then put 20 inch box fan on back pulling thru. filters are cheap. box fans seem to live along time. just seems simple
The only thing I’d do differently is I’d get another sheet of cardboard and cut a hole in it, tape that to the inside of the box and you can slide the dust filter in between the two holes - saves having to undo all the duct tape & makes replacing the filters a snap.
Seems to me that you live in the countryside, lots of trees outside your window. If your house is far from your neighbors, I don't think that you would be needing any filter. I think that you are on the second or third level of your house, and the wind could easily blow it away. How much paint particles would accumulate outside your house?
What about using a couple of computer fans, to suck the excess paint particles out? Then, use a dryer hose, like the ones in this video and put it over the computer fans!
Sweet! Probably not good enough for using Mr Super Clear, but if I had an airbrush with liquitex this would do the trick. Also, I'm sorry there are so many creepy dudes on the internet.
Isn't the problem with sucking the air out is that it drags in dust from the room? It would be better to blow air in through the filter so that the pressure in the booth is higher, pushing dust away. To stop paint spray getting up your nose just wear a mask. Dust is the enemy, not fumes ;-)
A couple of thoughts. Why not tape the filter on the inside of the box so that you do not have to undo everything. I typed this before I saw your Mods, LOL. I was going to suggest a small light fixture but you sorted that out also. For your viewers not so handy here is a possibility: www.tcpglobal.com/MAS-B440DCLK.html#.VXwaoVVVhBc

Magnificent. Both of them.
Great idea using the shop vac. The noise from one is my only issue but I appreciate the out of the box idea.
This is the tutorial I needed to help get my garage workshop up and running the way I wanted. Thanks for the excellent video.
Thanks, I am looking at a cardboard box and some RC bodies here, I am new to spray painting and was thinking about how to proceed and did a google search. That’s what I did but different concept. Thanks
😎👍🏻
Just came home with my first ever airbrush, thank god i found you!
Great demonstrator! She shows more directly how to do it.
Loved your video and your cost effective ideas. I've been looking at small paint booths to purchase but was shocked at the price so your idea definitely suits my budget better. Might I mention that you are super beautiful as well!😍😁 Have a great day!
nice job , for fillters I use coffee fillers for a coffee machine , I chance it each time I use it , they very cheap
You are absolutely gorgeous! 😃
Muchas gracias for sharing those great pieces of info. Answered a few question I had about how hard it has to suck. You got a sub with this one ;-)
I agree with carzanian! What!!! he commented 2 years ago!!!! You deserve way more comments than 96??? But anyway, I digress. You are both Gorgeous and talented.
Nice hair flip. Thanks for the video. Great idea 😊
This has been very informative. Thank you! I was trying to show my sister how to do this, but your video made more sense. Love your style too!
Very nice. Thank you!
I love your clear wrap skylight! It just works. Please forgive me for sounding like a jerk but you are beautiful and simply adorable!
Building a paint station as I just bought a airbrush for some modeling. Now if only my shop vac was quiet. Good info.
OMG, I'm in love.
Great video I'm planning on building a spray booth & you gave me some good ideas.

Buon lavoro e molto semplice.. Complimenti.. E complimenti anche a te... Molto bella

Would wax paper or parchment paper work for letting light in?
great job uk
Do you put the black hose to the bottom of vac and where the silver hose come from?
Became very relaxed watching this. : ) Building one similar too. nice job

Redheads are the absolute best
Gave me some great ideas!
Wonderful!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!
and the award for cheapest paint booth goes to this lady!

bellísima además un caballo preciosísimo.!!!
Is this ok with enamel based air brushing ?
Hey it works, thanks for sharing.
I love the way she says box and suck.
Is this technique safe for solvent based paints, or are the electronics an issue?

nice video and idea, btw wow youre cute:)
Is that a portable airbrush cabin in the corner?

I got a question, why making the hole so small , I will be better to be the same size of the filter, I’m new with all this, thanks
Thanks a lot Alisa, it really helped! Now with all due respect, I think you seems very nice and very cute : )Thanks again for your help, take care.-Osmar
What does she mean when she says "the bigger your box"?
6:02 "the more it sucks, the better it is" I just realized at the end she actually made a paint booth.
you are beautiful. and thanks for video

I used to use 4x 120mm PC fans... with filters... More effective that a vacuum as a vacuum has too much suction
After that hair flip i forgot what i was watching 😏
Not sure I want to suck the volatile fumes through a vacuum.
I like your hair
Gorgeous.. I'm in Love!! :)
I'm going to start airbrushing in my brick shed, do I need to fit it out with an extractor fan? And should I always wear a mask? My shed is 7 foot square
You have very nice lungs BTW...and great idea for the booth. Might give this a try.
Wow...nothing gets by you. I bet you are much smarter than your typing ability would have someone believe.

She is a female,,, that's the best she can do. LOL
Good to see you’re at the top of YOUR game, you pathetic, misogynist piece of shit.
Hot Mamacita!!!
Seriously now, that's very creative work. Hope you continue showing clever ideas like this one.
Where have you been all my life...
let them diamonds shine girly!!!

good ideas
nice !!!
i would love to know her
How about attaching the filter to the inside of the box? That way you don't have to take it all apart when changing it ;)
brilliant
I don't care about the paint booth I came to watch lol. you are gorgeous 😍😍
Great Poor Man spray booth I've watch a few video on homemade paint booths this one I can afford with a few mods TY
Seems to me that you live in the countryside, lots of trees outside your window.

This video was brought to you by the American Duct Tape council.
Easier to make with a box, a furnace filter and a 20" cheap box fan. But it was fun to watch. 🤪
4:57 I wanna draw your attention to a few things. Yup.
Was your attention draw?
I love you dream woman
lol!
Schwing!
Nice video, thanks ! (nice dirty pillows as bonus ;))
As for the individual before me obviously you had other thoughts.

GRAHAMAUS. 😂 so dumb...
Use a hair dryer on duct tape, makes it stick much better
Get you used this for a dust from wood worker too.
I kept watching the hair flip at half speed 😆
A couple of thoughts. Why not tape the filter on the inside of the box so that you do not have to undo everything. I typed this before I saw your Mods, LOL. I was going to suggest a small light fixture but you sorted that out also. For your viewers not so handy here is a possibility: www.tcpglobal.com/MAS-B440DCLK.html#.VXwaoVVVhBc
I love a woman that's not afraid to use duct tape.
lol
If you should ever need a helper, I'm available 🤞
in your dream 🤣🤣🤣
I always make sure it sucks really hard
yes yes yes
Orale chica.
Jeeeeezus,..I think I'll just lay down the dosh and purchase a ready-made spray booth.
thats very creative.... but you are so gorgeous, sorry hope you dont mind me saying.....
I love you gal. :)
