These things are a great platform for modding because of the price. I stuck a set of Tamiya Lunchbox tyres on mine using some rims I designed and 3D printed, and I'm running a 4300kv brushless using a 13T 0.6 pinion and I designed and printed an adaptor to let me run a 71T Tamiya spur on the stock driveshaft. Switched over to a full size JX Ecoboost servo to handle the bigger tyres. Switched the front hub carriers to metal and the 4 camber arms and it's all surprisingly robust. Nothing broke yet despite the punishment I've given it. Finished it off with this same baja body, although I wish they'd done a slightly longer version to get the arches more perfectly lined up. The stock car was decent off-road, but the mods have made it a million times more fun, especially the huge wheels.

Can't remember the part number but the bumper set from bandgood ,I think would give you the look you want! Glad you found a way to make a childhood dream come true! Looks and runs great by the way. @@noobrccars4392 good glue job and caulk the holes in the rims. I have seen people run them on water, with 5 gallon water jugs as wheels!!! Just crazy!! Take the wheel in question seal it best possible put in bowl of water see how much it can float then you have a base of how much 4 wheels can keep afloat. Hey, what about that spray foam crack sealer? Instead of foam in the tire???
To be fair my diffs were well greased on my wltoys 124017 version 2. I've run it loads and there is plenty of grease on the diffs. I haven't had it that long so perhaps they've listened to the feedback or maybe I just got lucky but either way I've definitely no complaints on that score
How wide is that bodyshell? Looks good, I might get one for my 1/12th Mardave if the width is OK and I'll do it like my old Tamiya Herbie styled sand scorcher that I had in 1980
Looks cool, reminds me of my FG Marder with Beetle body I never got to fit the monster truck wheel/tyre combo had more fun as is, I must go dig it out of my pile of pending projects and resurrect it, thanks you put a smile on my face and motivated to work on it instead of my mega bucks 5th gas vehicles.

Hello Ben,sorry to bother you again mate but you've always been kind enough to respond to my questions in the past so I have another query for you. As a noob myself ( this is probably obvious to most ) I'm wanting to put a 3s in my 124017 v2 and I want to know if I need to buy a balance charger to charge a 3s or can I use the little USB charger it comes with or will that only do the 2s battery it comes with. Thanks for your help it's always much appreciated mate
Hi David yes you would need a blalance charger as the one it comes with charges through the balance wire. So a 3s has an extra wire. Balance chargers can be got pretty cheap and are very easy to use and charge quicker as well. Hope that helps.

I got the mounting kit which just bolts to the shock towers. You might be able to make something to fit it. But it’s pretty cheap. As for paint I used tamiya paint one tin will do it. There’s probably better paint but I’ve only used tamiya.
I've got a 1/10 clone nissan skyline shell on my WLToys 124018 brushed rc and did have the Phatbody Escort MK2 body on my WLToys 144010 brushless rc buggy in black.

One I had always planned to do, and the mini from phat bodies but I found the kamtec Citroen saxo body and got addicted to making Rallycross cars with them but that beetle looks awesome👍
Just wrecked my 124017,drove it straight into my car at 40 mph and it went and got stuck under the tyre,bend the metal shock tower ,broke the wishbone and the gearbox housing, ruined the whole front end basically, gutted. Just ordered all the parts now I've got to wait a month before going for a rip. But after watching this I'm going to order a phat bodies " zero " body it's a rally style P.s the diffs do come greased
That’s a bummer. my friend did the same with his, drove it out on the road and got run over by a passing golf squashed the whole thing he had to buy a new one. I definitely didn’t laugh.😂

That looks awesome they put enough grease in to last a couple runs then it's all flung to the sides of the diffs
To be fair my diffs were well greased on my wltoys 124017 version 2.
I've run it loads and there is plenty of grease on the diffs. I haven't had it that long so perhaps they've listened to the feedback or maybe I just got lucky but either way I've definitely no complaints on that score

Would this body fit a 124017? Or would I need the mounting kit aswell? And what's best to spray the shells with mate?
