  • Our friends at DIYAutoTune.com, long known for the amazing MegaSquirt standalone ECU and other great products, have possibly knocked it out of the park for this one. This seems to be the most powerful ignition system (coil pack) for the Miata MX5 platform -- and fully plug and play! 81,000 Volts and 100+ mJ of energy for every spark. Works with both OEM and standalone ECUs. Today we show you how easy it is to install and then put it to the test.
    DIYAutoTune was also kind enough to offer my viewers 10% off when using the promo code OGMaxSpark!
    Details:
    ~10% ($75) off of the retail price of any MaxSpark PNP Miata kit purchased before October 5th, 2021. Note, immediate shipment while supplies last. If we run out though, it's temporary! We're building more! And if you lock in your purchase at this price and can wait a moment, you still get your kit at this price.

    Excellent video on the topic. For most NA and NB boost applications, I think the LS2 coils are plenty. I personally would be looking at a V8 before going the 300+ hp BP 4 cyclinder route.
    I would go V8 for the same reason of, "Buy once; cry once". The V8 swap has the transmission and differential ready for the power.

      The LS coils do a decent job. There are really two challenges I hear from customers pretty regularly with them. First is the tendency for some LS coils to discharge early if you dwell them too hard, some of these coils have a dwell limit where it seems in an effort to protect the coil, they'll go ahead and fire the spark early if you overdwell, which advances the timing for that spark, and can grenade an engine easily. The other issue I hear with LS coils is that it can be hard to find good quality replacements. You can find a replacement at any parts store, bonus-- they might be crap compared to the OEM coils.... common apparently.
      Furthermore, the WIRING plays a huge role in how well any coil can perform, and this can be measured as a voltage drop to the coils. Too small on the power/ground wire gauges and the coils will be starving for power. We did the wiring for you in the drop-on harness ensuring that it's done right.

    Have been looking for a good coil kit for my turbo build without doing the diy big spark kits. Found this kit and then found your video. Pulled the trigger. Thank you for such a great video on these!

    I just got these installed on my build. The Flow Force LS2 coil spark was getting blown out on my 10.5:1 compression, big cam, big turbo build at anything over 20 psi. Upgraded to the maxspark and everything has been great. I did have to gap down to .022 as I was having some spark blowout. Currently running 27 Psi without issues!.

    After burning my coil I just bought COP toyota and my engine became alive again

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ran then myself for a long time. The problem is they burn out easily unless you're also running a standalone ECU that can reduce the dwell. The stock ECU dwell is too high which shortens their life dramatically.

    because if it is an intelligent coil, is it in westate park? you don't have to put it or change it to coil and plug????

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I remember correctly, the cop setting will do sequential. So if you have wiring for full sequential then you can use that. Otherwise wasted spark is fine for any coil type. Especially with powerful coils, you'll see no performance difference. I rarely bother setting up full sequential for ignition if the car doesn't have it stock.

    My 1997 1.6 mx5 (Eu Modell) has the 8 pin conector. Is that normal?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I missed your question...I think it's normal. I believe the 1.6 uses the 8 pin connector with an ignitor vs coil pack regardless of year.

    How much power can the Toyota COPs support?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Typically about 250hp on the na1.8. You may be able to squeeze out a bit more by decreasing the spark plug gap.

      @OGPedXing Sweet! I'd love to just use the R8 COPs but I'm running the MS3X which can't fire them correctly. Currently sitting at 230whp on my turbo NB2 and not looking to go past 250 as the motor and trans are stock so these should be good enough

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @3lm3rfudd I ran at 230ish with Toyota Cops for a while with no problems at the stock gap. You can watch for blowout at the top of your boost range by logging and looking for drop offs in power and a sudden richness spike in the afr. If you see that, then just gap the plugs down a bit like .035 or .030.

      @OGPedXing Thanks! It's awesome how much good info you share. Been tuning my EBC with the help of your other vids, just gotta figure out closed loop so I can boost by gear now. Not confident enough to try the transistor mod to make the ms3x fire the R8 cops

    Are these the same old ig1 coils that everyone sells?

    • @jerryhoffmann2918
      @jerryhoffmann2918 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once upon a time, that might have been easier to answer.
      We were among the first to sell IGN1A coils well over a decade ago. Since then, a bunch of others have jumped onboard, big names in the industry, selling them as well. That's fine. Also since then.... a bunch of counterfeit copies of these coils have become available on places like eBay and Amazon, and they're junk.
      These are indeed legit IGN1A ignition coils, as hot and reliable as they come. And they are both of those things. This is a fully engineered solution though, not just some coils. It's also a mounting plate that fits these engines nicely, custom length/design Magnecor plug wires, and a VERY slick wiring harness that ensures these are properly wired to get adequate current without voltage drop issues, and to make the install EASY. It takes minutes to install this kit. it would take the average person a number of hours to hack together their own harness, with a reasonable chance it might not work as well.
      We do sell just the coils and connectors still of course, for those that would like to DIY it. We added a lot of value here though for those that want a dead sexy harness and mounting solution with matching plug wires-- that 'just works'.

    Is this coil have IGF wire?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It comes with everything you need to connect to the stock wiring plus an extra wire and fuse that goes to direct to the fuse box's battery positive input so it can get extra amps than what the stock wiring can handle. But for the ignitor wiring, it just plugs right in.

      I have Saab 2.0L turbo. It have 4 connectors and one is igf.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @honda636hp I checked and it's 5 pin: trigger, bat pos, bat negative, sensor ground, and engine ground. You may need to check what the ecu on the Saab requires. Some require a tacho out signal on the igf wire and I don't think this one does that.
