This is such a cool swap. Love that it doesn’t add a boat load of weight to the front but you still get good, reliable power. Thanks for all the fantastic content! 🤙🏻
The Ecotec was also in the SAAB 9-3, with a turbo on it. I've got a SAAB 9-3 parked outside, next to my NA. Now there's a thought ...
I forgot about the Saab 9-3, yes the turbo version is a really potent sleeper. There's also the Buick Regal GS that's a turbo Ecotec from factory which is also a bit of a sleeper. Both of those would make for interesting donors for a swap. Do it, do it!
Enjoy your vids. Love the format as well. Keep them coming!
Thanks for the support!
Loved watching this build - I think there's a good point to be made about keeping the character of the car. I've driven a few turbo cars and while fun they don't fit what I like about Miatas anymore. It's a shame this engine isn't more available worldwide for others to follow in your footsteps.
I guess a similar swap would be an NA tuned 1.8 VVT motor from the NB, might be a bit easier/cheaper but wouldn't tick your box for the race series you're looking to partake in / emulate.
Brill content as always 👍👍
Thanks for sharing the journey with me and your support of the channel! I'm surprised to learn this GM Ecotec variant didn't make it to European markets. Even if they did yet are not plentiful then the draw would certainly be reduced. Definitely the other desirable choices for me would have been a K-swap or a 1.8 with a turbo setup.
The build will continue ...
Thank you for the vids. From an FM S1 Turbo guy- I love and can appreciate all the work you've done. What a wild ride! I hope you're proud of everything you've accomplished, because I am!
Thanks for sharing the journey with me, TBH the FM turbo kit is the way to go if you have a good healthy motor. Good choice!
Fantastic video quality, keep it up! Awesome build too im jealous lol
Nice job!!!
Hey bro , good to see you got it running and driving now ... happy for ya and also curious to see what comes next lol 😅.... i got to get off my ass and start posting some vids myself 😅 hope all is going well for ya broski .. peace and love bro keep it rad stay safe and build on l8z
Your the best buddy !🤛
You're the best! 😜
Yessss I wanna document my 1.8 swap and turbo build once I get started
You definitely should, let's keep the Miata community strong!
Awesome! I just finished my swap a few days ago and got her turned over. 2.4L, She runs great with only 28k miles. Just need to take it to an exhaust shop to get that done and she’ll be on the streets in no time 😁. My long term plan is to swap to e85 with pump, injectors, and all with a tune to make some more power and maybe even look into a supercharger or turbo kit from zzp. 😎 I’m looking forward to seeing more content on your ecotec! The ecotec miata community needs more exposure.
That's awesome, your car is gonna rip! I'm glad that there's more of us coming out of the woodwork and advocating for the Ecotec. The journey will continue, for sure 👍
Great video to wrap it all up. Currently my donor engine is on the stand getting new ZZP cams and valve springs. Hoping to see it in the car soon!
That's awesome dude, you're motor is gonna get a healthy power bump from those cams alone
@@mostlyuselessgarage Hoping for 195-200HP dynojet on e85. Do you have plans to get yours on a dyno soon? Also, need more details on your exhaust build!
@@jeffwasilko I'd expect you may see more than that on e85, in fact with a ported head + cams and valvetrain upgrades you're gonna be 210+whp. Ya in the spring I'd like to get to the dyno for a tune and maybe some other plans for next season? 🤔
@@mostlyuselessgarage I'm hoping I can get there!
I'd recommend doing frame rail braces, makes the car less floppy
Agreed! th-cam.com/video/9jJXdiZmWcM/w-d-xo.html
I own the "spicier" 2.0l version in my Pontiac Solstice GXP - the "American Miata".
Truthfully, while a ADORE my car, the chassis of even an NA Miata is SO good and I admit BETTER than my Solstice.
Putting my engine with your car sounds like an AMAZING blend ❤️.
Great stuff!
Awesome, that's very generous of you to say. I do like the Solstice/Sky and feel like they had a lot of potential. Like on paper the Sky Redline should have been a success with RWD, turbo, manual. In any case keep yours clean and enjoy it! Thanks for the comment
What does it rev to? Similar weight to the miata engine. Seems like a good match
I think stock is set to 6800-7000 RPM but it seems to just make noise. This motor is more about torque ... and being cheap 🤣
If you m62 supercharge it you can run 230whp reliably on that motor
🤔🤔
@@mostlyuselessgarage i have an 09 vvt motor and ive pieced together an m62 kit from an lsj cobalt ss
Definitely a nice amount of power for a Miata, nothing crazy but usable and fun. I'll have to give it some thought. Thx for the suggestion!
@@mostlyuselessgarage i wouldnt push past 300whp on a 2.4 if thats what your running, the block is good for well up to 800whp but the rods are butter
