The Path of the Magdalene, a Mistress of the Waters
In our 27th Episode in the Metaphysical Egypt Series, Allan and I will begin our discussion with Mary Magdalene as a “Mistress of the Waters.” To the Gnostics, as well as the Celts and ancient Egyptians, venerated female figures were often associated with lakes, wells, fountains, springs-- and in Egypt, the Nile River.

In Egypt, water was revered as the life force and energy in motion (emotion) which nurtured the land, structures and the physical body. It is the ebb and flow of this life force that drives the agricultural cycles, and on a symbolic level, our cycles of consciousness. Creation mythologies speak of the emergence of life from the sacred feminine womb of the sea of primordial waters known in Egypt as NU. It is the womb that gives birth to our perception time and space.
The MER, in Egypt was a tool that opened a path for the FLOWering of life, and as a plough it functioned as a seeding device in agricultural practices. The MER translates as Love and MERI meant “the Beloved” in ancient Egypt. MER is used within words associated with bodies of water as creatures that live within them, such as MERmaids and MERmen. The word, MERdian can be used to describe matrices of energy as well as gridlines on our geographical maps. Are we Mermaids and Mermen navigating the currents of the “gameboard’ of this perception of reality?
