  • 2nd visit to Tilehurst Station on the Great Western Main Line first time in nearly 3 years
Featuring services from Great Western Railway and CrossCountry Trains
The first station east of Reading is Tilehurst which was opened in 1882 over 41 years after the original GWML was extended to Steventon.
There was one time a goods siding which was closed in 2013 to enable a new footbridge to be installed however rather surprisingly it did not include Lifts.
Today services are provided by Half Hourly semi stoppers to and from Didcot Parkway which since January 2018 have been provided by Class 387 Electrostars which stop via Platforms 3 and 4 although on Sundays it's Hourly.
Platforms 1 and 2 are used by passing Intercity Services with Class 800 and 802 IETs on GWR or sometimes Class 220 or 221 Voyagers from CrossCounty Trains and since May 2021 Class 387s have been enable to go beyond Didcot Parkway to Swindon, Bristol Parkway or Cardiff Central which is the furthest at Present the electric overhead wires go.
The station was proposed to have it's car park increased and Lifts to eventually be installed to enable access to all platforms which although was agreed in 2020 however so far as of 2022 no work hasn't been carried out due to subject to funding conditions.
