Great Western Railway, TFL Rail and Heathrow Express Trains at Southall on October 5th 2019

- 1st time filming at Southall on the Great Western Main Line featuring Great Western Railway, TFL Rail and Heathrow Express.
Southall station opened on May 1st 1839 a year after the first section of the GWML was completed between Paddington and Maidenhead Riverside now todays Taplow Station
At one time between 1883 and 1885 the District Railway was extended from Ealing Broadway to today's Windsor & Eton Central however was not a success and was abandoned and cut back to Ealing Broadway.
Another branch line to Brentford Dock was opened in 1859 for freight with passenger services beginning a year and would run until 1942 when passenger services ceased and the branch line closing in 1964.
The goods platforms that opened at the time of the original station would close in 1967 and was dismantled.
Today ownership of the station is now run by TFL which took over management of the station from GWR in December 2018 along with most of the intermediate stations between Paddington and Maidenhead with the only exceptions of Slough and Maidenhead.
A bad accident occurred on September 19th 1997 when a HST bound for Swansea collided with a Freighter which was at the time crossing the fast lines. The 1203 Swansea Service ran a red signal at danger and didn't stop and despite the efforts from the freighter to get out away it was too late.
7 people died and 139 were injured.
The cause of the accident was caused not only by driver error from the HST passing a signal at Danger however it was also discovered that the Class 43 Loco Automatic Warning System (AWS) was not working which as a result didn't alert the driver of the red signal until it was too late.
Since then that all trains fitted with AWS must have them functionally otherwise they would be taken out of service until it's fixed.
Great Western was fined £1.5 million for the accident.
Today at Southall at the time of filming was undergoing rebuilding for Crossrail. It's not just served by TFL Rail services for Hayes & Harlington but also Heathrow Terminal 4 plus GWR services to Reading and half hourly London Bound services 1 from Reading and 1 from Didcot Parkway.
The Long distance services are provided by Class 800 and 802 IETs which took over the Class 43 HSTs on May 18th 2019
Heathrow Express Class 332s are due to be replaced by 12 modified GWR Class 387s from December
Class 360s will still operate on TFL Rail until December 2020 when they are along with 360/1s from Greater Anglia will be moved to East Midlands Railway.

Heathrow express was originally 332s but they were scrapped now operated by 387s
