As a mountaineering hunter myself, this is spot on. Giants do exist, but they are tough deer and it requires tough hunting. It's like hunting an entirely different type of whitetail. Here in the mountains, deer are hard to spot over any type of longer distance, and they are much more cautious as well. I'd love to see more videos on this guy or what he's killed.

Wow...This one was well worth the watch...Ive hunted GA all my life and to us the only big deer is midwest or "Iowa". So to us, we have the least amount of knowledge of where the big deer are. There are big deer everywhere. GA, MS, AL, AR, VA, NC, TN...and WV....They are just where the people aint....
You've got it right...took me many years just to kill a 10 pointer that was around 120" class. I've killed many deer in the last 30 years and hardly ever made a shot over 50 yards...the woods are so thick and steep in North Georgia you are lucky to be able to see over 30-50 yards.
I've hunted with Dave and you'll never meet a more authentic guy. Great work on this piece, hope to see more!

Enjoy while young, I'm 40 and I know that some people will say 40 is young. But I chased Mature Whitetails all over the Danielle boone NF, still do. But my knees don't work as well as they did 10 Years ago. I was always by myself, Now my son who is 15 goes with me. Nobody was crazy enough to climb the hills, or take the hikes I do or did. Lookin back on some of the spots I got into by myself, there's no way I would have been able to drag a deer out. But then again, when faced with a challenge you adapt and overcome. Great video, I'm glad there are still a few guy's out there like me, who aren't just playing video games at the house.
Living here in eastern KY nine years now, love the mountains & hunting Daniel Boone National Forest this year... wouldn't trade it! By the way, I'm 60... 🙂
I'm 69 and have hunted mountain bucks for 40 years....I'm still at it. I go a bit slower, which has actually been better...but still humping the mountains. I think hunting mountains keeps you young and strong! Keep digging!
I"ve hunted the KY Appalachian Mountains all my life. It's not for the faint of heart, buts it's a hunt that will never be compared to another. Very rewarding when consistent.

Enjoyed watching this agree with everything he said. My experience is similar to his. I’ve hunted the mountains of East Ky since I was a kid. Late 40’s now. I want to experience hunting other places but my heart will always be in the mountains of East Ky. Great bucks here but it takes hard work.

Monsters live in the mountains. Been chasing them for over 30 years. I’ve been blessed enough to bring several home. They’re smarter than any flatland deer.

Hunting Western NC bucks in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a challenge. Steep terrain, swirling winds, and mtn weather make the reward of being outdoors all that more rewarding. Respect for the land, animals, and people...spot on, and it makes ya a better hunter/person. Thank you for your video and for representing mountain folk.

A fine example of a true Mountaineer. The bow hunting only counties hold world class deer if like to work hard and earn them.
Working hard and earning them in the bow only counties now means riding an atv to within sight of your tree. That's not an exaggeration, I live in a bordering county. That's IF they aren't being poached from the atv to begin with.

You sharing means so much , as a mountain backwoods , observer/hunter/ hard to find the word that defines. Steward , maybe? I hunt Appalachia north Georgia, primarily wma public land. My appreciation for your respect for these mountains, its wildlife and history is equally shared and must be passed on to the next-generation. I greatly respect the land and wildlife. Taking an animal is nothing to be taken lightly. Really enjoy your videos thanks!

Him only hunting a handful of times a year is why he is successful. You only get one chance at a mature mountain buck. Great work 👍

Just started hunting public land in Appalachia and it’s definitely the best place on earth.

Nice tribute to life in the hill country, it is much the same here in the Ozarks. With a dozen generations and growing, it would be hard to think of living anywhere else.

Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky are all well known for Whitetail hunting and all border WV. Pretty standard for the state to be undervalued. 🤷🏼♂️ I’ll keep chasing em!
Was fun hunting coal company property or other public in the 4 counties. Word got out, and everything got leased. Basically all private managed properties now

its not hunting today, its use scent cover, feed , binoculars, blinds, using calls, - go out in woods with no gps, no technology gimmicks,no hiding behind tarps, no call alarms, no feeding deer, no spray on scent cover or scent attractants then youll impress me
I'm with ya... I ground hunt here in east KY, love these mountains - but you have got to want it, nothing is a given.

If you don't have land to hunt you're screwed. Not everyone has gated land to hunt.

Hunting the mountains of Wv is extremely difficult. I’m here in the northern part of the mountain state and hunt some of the most rugged and unforgiving ground . And not to toot my own horn but I’ve been very successful at taking mature deer . You just have to put the work in because it doesn’t come easy .
You know what the real key is to chasing big bucks?? Having a very understanding wife……
