I'll be giving it a bench test soon and will have my fingers crossed :-)

It is amazing how easy these old parts come apart and you can see why we had issues in the past of car clocking...good effort on the clean up, there are also sticker kits available if you fancied changing the background colours on any of the clocks. I would also recommend upgrading the dash bulbs to LEDs, there are kits on ebay for that too.

I shall look into it, thanks :-) The chances are I'll end up leaving it, just to keep things less complicated...but it'll be good knowing there are options available if im feeling brave :-)

Love the old Smiths clocks - something really appealing about that simplistic, stylish design that makes them timeless. Such a shame we can't manufacture things of that lasting quality any more.

I agree. The fact that some of these things are going strong 40, 50, 60+ years on goes to show how well made they were :-)

I was really surprised Smiths dont do repairs...unless I misheard them...but I guess sometimes it can be cheaper to replace than restore for some companies.

Thanks 😊 It’s not often I take things apart and manage to put them back together so this is a bonus for me 😂👍

Thanks, I’m honestly surprised it cleaned up as well as it did. I think there’s a certain degree of satisfaction too from saving parts that may otherwise have been disposed of 😊

I have a feeling it’s not the original clock that the car came with but it’s from my 81 mini.
