This is a true story from Ronnie Dunn's childhood. He says he rarely sings it live because his voice breaks every time. That old man must have really meant a lot to him.
I needed to hear this. When I lost my 95 year old mother in 2005 (I was fifty-five) I felt Ihad received her strong faith. Some losses have shaken it, but this song fills me with this pure faith. I identify with this bond and miracle. Precious! ❤🙏!
I can't say how many times I have heard and seen this video. I cried every time. It's the song and the singer and the visuals. Believers are comforted in sorrow. It's sad because there is love
Always thought when he ran away from the funeral and went back to the old man’s porch. And he saw the pictures of the wife and baby was a sign that he was with them
One of my favorite songs and everytime I listen to it I get tears, there's something spiritual about that song in the way Ronnie Dunn sings it. It's deep and beautiful for sure, I can understand why you reacted the way that you did because you were listening to it for the very first time. You'll have to step back and take another listen to it before you react.
It is a beautiful tale, straight from the singer's life. The man knew he would see his family on the other side. To quote the movie, The Green Mile, "we all owe a life".
If a song can bring a smile to your face or a tear to your eyes, then the writer and singer have done their job to leave a lasting memory in your soul you will always remember. Great song and video.
In 6 years I lost 2 Aunts, 2 cousins, both my surviving Grandparents, and an Uncle. This song chokes me up every time. If you have family or friends close to you, spend every moment you can with them because they are gone all too soon.
Your sensitivity shows what a solid man you are. The video challenges to give something of ourselves to the next generation. This man likely taught that little boy stuff like changing his oil in the truck. Or how to fish. The greatest gift he gave that little boy was lifelong friendship and the previous commodity of his time.
This song speaks on many levels. Reminder... country is story ... every song (pre pop) it is supposed to make you feel .. and if you do then you know you have a hit. Wait until you get to George Jones ... "He stopped loving her today" ... you will get there ... and once you do ... it's crazy how it makes me feel ....
Love is color blind. There is more to this life than just what we can see. However, happy that those that have left us are not gone, just gone ahead. George
Yes this is his true story if him as a young man growing up. The comment below is right also that you will RARELY hear him sing or even talk about this song because he gets choked up. Great reaction my guy, beautiful song and this song will humble you. Don't take your days for granted, soak them all in. SALUTE Fam.
In 2020 my Momma passed from cancer. During our last few months together she requested this song (and only song she requested) to be played at her funeral. I had never heard it, and couldn't/didn't listen to it until the day she passed. I cried like a baby. I BELIEVE Momma. And I KNOW it doesn't all end with a ride in a hearse. Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life...and the only way to the Father. I had a dream just a year or so before Mom got sick (or really we just didnt know yet 😔) that I was at her house at her feet crying and telling her I forgave her for the past, I repented for the things I did and said that did not honor her over the years and then I washed her feet. Then I woke up. That day I text her and told her what God laid on my heart. I said to her what I said in the dream and she said she said she loved me and she wished she could hear it every day. (I didnt mention washing her feet, she probably would have thought I was weird or something lol) Fast forward to 2020 and we found out she was sick. 3 months later she was paralyzed from the waist down (due to the cancer spreading). I took her in to take care of her. She didnt want that because she didnt want to put me through that, but I said no, you are my Momma and nobody will take care of you like someone who loves you. So she stayed. (Plus she cooked in a nursing home for over 20 years and knew how they treated patient's.) Anyway, it wasnt until one day I was giving her a sponge bath and got on the floor to wash her feet that I realized God restored our relationship and humbled me like never before... washing my mommas feet. She passed 2 days before my 40th birthday. One of the best moments was when I was helping her and she looked me in the eyes and said "Thank you for loving me so much". 😭💖 It wasn't always easy, she was "stubborn as a mule", as they say, but she was a fighter. Always was. All I could do was LOVE HER LIKE JESUS. So thats what I did. By the grace of God.
Yes!!! Beautiful!!! We all go to that great place another work where they can chill with loved ones !!! My dad just died but I believe it’s a great world up there
The song is sad from an earthly perspective, but from a heavenly plane it's a beautiful song of hope. You said it made you want to call your Mama. Do it. As often as you can do it. I lost my Grandmother in December. I call my mom almost daily. Life is fast and short. We must make the most of every second and spend as much time with our loved ones as we can.
I know it gets to you, but to me the key is the line where he says, after finding out about the old man's passing, "I didn't know whether to cry or laugh."(3:14) Cry--that's obvious. But why would he laugh? Because he knows the old man is reunited with his wife and son, just like he said. Hang on to that piece, and you can find the sweetness in the sadness. That's why we ALL need to be watching this right now. With so much sadness out there, we have to be able to find the sweetness.
It's a true story. Absolutely heartwarming. Caring and sharing Love and Knowledge. Talk to the Old Folk. They have so much insight and wisdom and life lessons learned.
People are way more alike than they are different. I was always taught when I was feeling grief or feeling sorry for myself that there was plenty of others that have it a lot worse than I do.
You do that and call your mom! Sometimes we all need a to have something get us into our feelings. This world can bl8nd us at times of what's important...
Yeah. So hard to watch and feel but thank you so much for your reaction. I kinda feel like anyone who doesn't feel this - well, I have to question that person. lol, thanks again.
I would sometimes play this song on the drive with my sons to my ex wife drop off or pick up , they would say play it again dad.. twice was bout all I could do and drive too. Follow this up with Pink Floyd- "Time" .
As an Army Veteran i have to request Tim McGraw “If You’re ReadingThis.” (There is no Official Video) There is one that he performs it live but if you cant find it there are plenty of tribute type videos. Get you’re Kleenex!
I cry… every time I watch this …I lost my brother. His skin color was not the same. His mother, was mine. We loved each other. When I walk across that line. He’s the first I want to hug
I bet if I tell you Boot Scootin Boogie, you may know another Brooks and Dunn song. They are wonderful. Ronnie Dunn's voice is amazing. This song is sad but also very hopeful.
What most people miss is that the pages flip to the page with the photo then they flip back after he takes the photo which means he is with his wife and child again.

Ronnie Dunn came from a single mom home and this man was a great male role model in his life. He wrote this as a tribute to him.
That’s awesome thanks for that information didn’t know that
I was hoping someone had already said it. God brought them together to fill that father/son role. So beautiful!
The sadness is palpable, but this song is also deeply hopeful for people of faith, like Mr. Wrigley.
Yes this song was very touching
Amen.
Dang. I still cry every time I watch this.... So beautiful. Isn't his voice amazing??
This is a true story about the singer ronnie dunn.🥺🥺🥺💕💕💕💕
I didn't know that! No wonder it touches so many hearts.

True story of the man singing. It is sad but yet so beautiful
Pain & sadness, yes. But also hope & faith. The simple story this song tells, encapsulates all of that. Beautiful.💙
There is so much hurt but also so much hope in this song.
It is a beautiful tale, straight from the singer's life. The man knew he would see his family on the other side. To quote the movie, The Green Mile, "we all owe a life".
This was so sad but a good song
Love your heatfelt reaction. I cry everytime I watch this, I believe. This song is like going to church.
Yes this song is super touching can’t lie
I like to think Old Man Wrigley opened that Bible to the page with the photo to show Ronnie that he was reunited with his wife and son at last.
That was my thought on that too.
I was hoping that's what they were portraying too.
The song is beautiful. They found hope.
Ronnie Dunn has one of the best voices in all of music.

Country music can definitely bring out the feels.

Country music has a way of making feel.
Yea it does
There was pain at the loss yet hope for the future. This life isn't the end.
Love is color blind. There is more to this life than just what we can see. However, happy that those that have left us are not gone, just gone ahead. George
The line « Words written in red » refers to the fact that in some Bibles the words of Christ are written in red.

Before Ronnie Dunn went into music, he was a youth pastor, so his feelings in this song are genuine.
What most people miss is that the pages flip to the page with the photo then they flip back after he takes the photo which means he is with his wife and child again.
Ronnie Dunn has a great voice!
I’m crying again too.
Yes so sad no lie
