      That's amazing. The funny thing is I think it's basically a coincidence this is Broken Lizard's best movie by far. Like, Brian Cox makes it even better, but it's already very solid on its own. He got lucky he didn't end up in something more lazy or forgettable haha.

    State Troopers or Highway Patrol have jurisdiction over the entire state, and generally stick to the highways. This is due to the fact that if you are on an interstate highway you can quickly move out of the jurisdiction of city policy or county sheriff meaning they wouldn't have any authority to pull you over after you pass the city/county line.

    For a movie that seemed heavily improvised, this one has a pretty solid script. I also dig "Club Dread" and "The Slammin' Salmon" by this comedy troupe. Broken Lizard (or some of them, anyway) are also responsible for the 2005 movie version of "The Dukes of Hazzard", but I can't say that I'd recommend that one (despite loving the show when I was in elementary school).

    5:25 yes in the States, State Troopers (aka highway police) typically cover the interstate highways away from the cities while normal police handle the more populated areas

  • @sheens43
    @sheens43 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    This is a super simplified version, but the way police work here in the US is:
    Each US state is made up of counties, each county contains towns and cities. Each city has their own police force, whose jurisdiction is the city limits. Some people live outside the city limits, so we have county sheriffs whose jurisdiction is the county line. They can and do assist with city matters, but for the most part they're here to handle the rest of the county stuff. Then we have state troopers, whose jurisdiction is the state lines. Since we already have policing for our cities and counties covered, the only thing left is the interstate highways, which is what a state trooper (also called highway patrol) covers.

    The thing that still fascinates me about this movie is that Brian Cox wanted to be in it. He didnt need convincing or anything, at the time of the production he was already a very well stablished dramatic actor and if i remember correctly he asked to his agent to find a silly, dumb movie and his agent found this script and the comedic enssemble behind it. Cox accepted inmediately. I think is Wire which produces those videos where actors explain their careers through their movies and a few months back they released one with Cox, he spoke hihgly of his time while shooting this movie, he has great memories.

    I can confirm I did the cat game and the "littering and" once or twice back when I was in Law Enforcement (it can get boring and its fun to screw with people in a non malicious way). To answer his question, state troopers pretty much are in charge of anything highway/traffic related. Occasionally they can get pulled for city or local stuff if the extra manpower is needed or they're helping with a pursuit but even then its pretty rare

    Fun fact: The shaving cream in the locker prank went wrong for Eric Stolhanske. The person in charge of buying the shaving cream accidentally got menthol, and Rabbit was in a lot of burning pain during that scene.

    My favorite story about this film is that Brian Cox approached *them* to do the movie. Broken Lizard originally wanted Bill Murray for the role but they could only offer $100K. The script got shopped around and Brian Cox saw it and called them up to ask if he could do it. Apparently when he started acting he thought he’d be a comedy actor like Jerry Lewis, his hero, but after playing Hannibal Lecter in Manhunter he got typecast in serious and dark roles. Super Troopers was Brian’s chance to flex his comedy muscles. Also apparently he loves edibles

    They accidentally used menthol shaving cream when putting Rabbit in the locker. No one noticed it until Cox was delivering his lines and they heard "Rabbit" start squeaking because he was trying to stifle crying out in pain.

    State police have entire state jurisdiction but spend a lot of time patrolling interstate highways. States are divided into counties with a sheriff's department for each, as well as municipal police. Theyre usually called state police or state troopers, but colloquially get called highway patrol because thats usually where you see them.

    Their second movie, Club Dread, IS a spoof, specifically of slasher flicks. It's less original because they are working with an established genre, but I like it better. It also features Bill Paxton's (R.I.P.) best role ever, Coconut Pete.
