Meanwhile, in Botswana a white classmate of mine called Daniel asked my brother and father if he could marry me once he finished medical school. I used to sit next to him in Chemistry and Biology A level. This was about 20 years ago. My brother categorically said no. My dad, well I never found out. In our culture, our male relatives' opinion weighs a lot when it comes to marriage prospects. Daniel is now a doctor in Australia and he has never married. People don't think that white men actually see black women as marriage prospects. We underestimate the appalling legacy of Apartheid in Southern Africa. I felt pressure to turn him down despite the sheer effort he put into proving himself to my family. This man's Afrikaaner family's attitude is not surprising whatsoever.

There's still racism in South Africa. Inter-racial relationships are still rare and a big deal today. It's often older people, and strangers who notice, comment, ask or say racial things. We've experienced racism from all races in South Africa. Most of them don't mean harm, but the attention and curiosity was just too much. Society still stuck in the past. They don't understand how a "white person" can marry a "black person". People are nice but pity to leave. Happier to not hear words like "blacks" and 'whites" everyday. Love is really blind.

Am I the only one who feels like this white man is just lusting over these African women? I can just feel it through his interactions with his wife. I also did research on one of his books called 'Werfsonde' translated to 'Site Probe' in English. I do not know what this actually means. But the book cover illustration is all you need to know about this man and how he views black women. I'm a mixed black women and I have had quite a few experiences with white men lusting over people who look like me or who are darker than me. It's honestly something natural to a woman's intuition that can sense and identify these kind of behaviours. The most notable things to look for are the way they stare at you. It's usually a long held gaze directed towards you that is full of craving and desire. It's like they've never seen anything that has ever looked like you before. You're essentially equivalent to an exotic or rare creature, since you're beauty that's different to the European standards just puts them in deep awe of you. Next is their tone of voices and the things that they say. Their speech usually implies sensuality or just borderline lust. I can see this clearly in the documentary, especially as Julia's body language is almost indifferent to her white boyfriend. It's quite lacklustre and unbothered. I mean, she's possibly an shy introverted individual generally, but if you truly love someone you're body language tends to be in sync. Also the cover photo for the documentary speaks volumes as well and justifies my claims. Or simply put... he just seems to love (or lust for) her a little bit more harder. I know this sounds petty or trivial, but these small things are certainly huge indicators to my first statement. No hate to this man. He seems wonderful and loving. But it's purely an observation of mine. Peace and love x

The fact that Fanie hides his wife from his family, even though he vehemently denies they are racist, says that not only are they racist but that he is ashamed of his wife himself. This is an extremely unhealthy way to handle a relationship of any kind. And his friends sitting around talking about how the racist caste system doesn't really exist, all while talking about how they were/are afraid of being around black people speaks to the mass denial going on. People praising his handling of race and view of black people are in denial themselves. Fanie seems to be part of the problem, not the solution.

It might be my imagination but the beautiful Julia has moments where she looks very lethargic, depressed, sad and detached. I hope it is just a look of deep refection or thought. I use to periodically have a similar aura when I was very young (about nine years old). My pediatrician diagnosed me with severe anemia. It got worse in my teenage years. One day I was soo tired that I went to the emergency room and the nurse couldn't find my pulse. To this day I still have to include iron/B12 supplements and red meat in my diet.
I hope Julia is very happy and well. Best wishes to her and Fanie.

Julia has a unique personality, similar to mine, shy, reserved, a deep thinker but very, very caring, loving and unending loyalty. Many times I am asked what's wrong, am I depressed? until they get to know me. It's a shame people of this world are still allowing tones of our skin to determine where we can work, live, who we marry, where is safe to visit all because of a skin tone and we're 3 months away from 2022, when will this end?
Love, peace and unity going out to all skin tones across this entire world.

Depends what part of town in LA you are. I was threatened to be killed because I was white. We were playing a gig on tour of a few cities in america and we were at a place in LA when I stepped out for a smoke with some of the band a group of local African Americans came up to us and said if our white bitch asses stuck around they'd skin us. Lol. I've lived in South Africa for half my life too and that is true if your a tourist, you'll be judged for being white in many places there. Also look up "EFF anti white rally" lol basically the third largest political party in South Africa, they regularly are racist towards white people in that country and they've even threatened genocide if the white people dont give up lamd and move back to Europe even though they have been there for close to 400 years much longer than the Zulus whom that party is primarily made up of. You can find the genocide threat video online if you look up videos about the EFF.

He's constantly asking her questions or (because of a language barrier), translating for her to the camera. It's like she checks out of a conversation and goes into her own world. I hate to say it but I think he's fascinated with her, the idea of being in love and curious. While it looks like she jumped into a marriage, maybe because of the novelty of simply being asked (and it being a white man). She also seems to be much younger than him. I have a feeling their marriage didn't last. I wish there had been an update.

It was really interesting to watch this and I learnt a lot about the culture here. I only know of two couples in mixed marriages and that’s very different from The UK. I also find it hard to comprehend how blacks and coloured people are treated differently and are still divided after apartheid.South Africa is not a rainbow nation yet but I hope one day it will be.Foni and Julia ,I hope you’re living happily here, I’d love to know how you are and if you had kids.☮️💟

I have said that also that we were not given a chance to settle down in the new era and we got overwhelmed by negativity and people who had the extreme imagination of Apartheid. As a black South African born in the late 50's early 60's I had never had a nasty encounter with verbally brutal white South Africans than I did with most NON SOUTH AFRICANS mostly black and Asian IN SOUTH AFRICA and out. Black and White South Africans share a great sense of humour together, and I find that we have a common enemy, foreigners with a twisted mind regarding Apartheid.

You should see South Africans, Black and white abroad. We don't have to marry one another, but boy we have a special bond, a beautiful slang together and a great sense of humour. White people abroad noticed and admire that, but black and Asian foreigners are so lost in RACISM towards black South Africans, in countries where they are foreigners themselves. more racist than the people of the country who are white and less or no racist towards South Africans.

Most of the blacks in this documentary seem to be on drugs, its a huge difference in outlook, Afrikaners are a tough, direct people, stubborn like the old Dutch reflecting our Dutch heritage for us the Black ways are very strange, so it is not only color but also the way different people are that makes us want to live apart, but I never had much to do with blacks or coloreds while I was there I felt we had no connection what so ever, were just too different. I left in 1993 as it was clear our old dream of a Boer homeland was gone and I didnt want to live in the mess that was being offered & was lucky enough as my mother is Irish to be able to escape to the West. This man has made his bed, it was his choice to join the new SA. We all must make our choices in life if we are lucky enough to be able to do so.

Lots of years 5 and older, we were home alone during the work week at school on our own and home afterward. TV was our nanny. 15 years of it. Later the brother says he was brouhgt up thinking he was intellectually better than blacks. What he should have understood is that he was more adevantaged and begtter educated thatn blacks would have gotten. We all know that brains are all unique and Knowlege has not much to do with the capacity of the brain,
It is how your family or society trains you to believe in a trade or a position. in other words life is a crapshoot, we do not determine anything until maybe 18, if ever. Your brain may be ruled by emotion and keeps yourself hancuffed by anxiety.
