  • Warning this video is what I did to prove where the horsepower was lost. I am not telling you to do likewise. This video is focused on an emissions control device so only proceed IF you understand any potential legal consequences.
    The MAF calculates air flow based on the diameter of the tube being a fixed size. IF you change the diameter of the tube the calculation is wrong. By removing the insert you’ve increased the diameter of the tube without telling the ECU. This could lead to more airflow than the ECU can adjust for and you end up running a bit lean.
    Reinserting the tube corrects this and returns the total fuel trim to be less than that 10%

      @@claywhicker8549 Yes you have to completely remove it. All the tools you need is a torx bit to remove the MAF sensor and it's either a 12 or 13 mil deep socket to remove the top part of the air filter. The most challenging part was removing the inner tube. I had to take three table knives and put them under each tab simultaneously and then push it from the back. Tony uses a screwdrivers but I found the table knives were more flexible and easier to use. Make sure you put the inner tube back in without the filter because if you don't put the inner tube back in it'll throw off your fuel trims.

    Pulling the insert out of the tube between filter and the throttle body doesnt change the diameter.
    What changes is the velocity and volume of air that moves through the tube. Thats what your MAF sensor is detecting.
    Its why steeda had such a long R&D process with early cold air intakes for gen 3 coyotes.
    You took the pipe out and put the same one back in. It didnt get any fatter or skinnier. Same inner and outer diameter. Just volume and flow changes is all....

    • @TonysFordsandMustangs
      @TonysFordsandMustangs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Originally I did not put the inner sleeve that holds the HC Trap back in and my fuel trims were off (Video One). Minus the inner sleeve the diameter of the intake tube is quite a bit larger at the mass air flow sensor and the car would occasionally bog on acceleration. Once I reinstalled the insert minus the trap everything went back to normal. Steeda has a lot more resources and knowledge than I do but I can tell you that if you don't reinstall the sleeve your fuel trims will be off by 10% or more.
