    Just put the carbon trap back in when/if you need to smog the car. I have to remove my oil separator’s for smog here in CA (which arguably just makes the exhaust cleaner). Nobody can just see that trap so, if you know someone who can smog the car, do it to see if it still passes emissions wise.

    • @TonysFordsandMustangs
      @TonysFordsandMustangs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Conner, Ford's retail website has an error. This isn't the first time nor will it be the last time that has happened. All of Ford's technical specs for 2022 (one of which I linked in the video description) and well as the the 2022 owner's manual list the correct compression. Additionally IF the 2022's were down on compression the horsepower drop would have been much more than 10 HP. I pulled the HC trap and my horse power is identical to a 2021. End of story. That's the hardware change for 2022 is the HC trap not compression.

    Has there been any info on why Ford would put a carbon trap on the intake? Is it to catch evaporative emissions from fuel left in a cylinder/intake manifold post shutoff? That's about all I can think of. And if that's where they're at now chasing emissions, they're tilting at windmills. It just doesn't matter. You'd create more emissions by spilling a few drops of fuel at the pump than you would ever catch with this abomination on the intake. Oh and props Tony on showing consideration for the dyno shop in your testing process.

    • @TonysFordsandMustangs
      @TonysFordsandMustangs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know the CARB emissions become more restrictive each and every year so maybe this was all Ford could come with to meet the requirement? I understand a tune has to be careful with the EPA watching everything they do. I didn't want to ask them to touch anything and we scheduled my pulls over their lunch hour so it worked out well.

    I have two questions, as I have just become a proud parent of a 2022 Mach1! I’m ecstatic!
    #1 - Does removing the hydrocarbon trap void the warranty?
    #2 - How would the State know that you removed the part? UNLESS someone snitched on you, right?
    Any thoughts?
    I need to know this bc I want the increased HP, as I used to own a 2020 GT PP1 and I was super happy with its stock HP. I really don’t understand why the government came up with this ridiculous new law. 😩

      Yeah, even the '19 Bullitt was around 430hp @whl. I think Ford underrated them. I noticed that between the '19 & '20 mdl yr Bullitt. The GOV made Ford knock off 1 Mpg on both city & Highway. & those 2 cars are virtually identical. The '19 used the same published #'s as the '19 GT manual did. Yet we all know the Bullitt has the Gt350 induction tube/intake manifold. Did these cars w/the new carbon trap chg on MPG at all? Cuz that extra loss of 1 Mpg caused the gas guzzler tax to up a Lil if I recall correctly on the '20 Bullitt as well. I had to pay $2600 gas guzzler on our '22 GT500 purchase. My Bullitt was $12/or $1300.
      I'd hav to chk sticker to be correct. So I've spent nearly $4k in these ridiculous taxes between 2 cars. Where does this money actually funnel to? 🤔 scam as far as I'm concerned. Between sales taxs, insurance, & gas guzzler fees, my 1st new Ford Truck cost less than this NO VALUE Added garbage. I'm burned out on paying sales tax over & over on these used cars after everyone else paid it, in veh markets. As I rarely buy new anymore, except these FoMoCo performance cars. Sometimes is not only for emission’s, the manufacturer like to keep HP upgrades for the newest model’s, I know this engine on the MACH 1 can go to 537HP, by simple mapping it, without taking out this, and if you take it out ,put another 20 HP, than we talk about of a natural aspirated engine with 557 HP, another great addition to install is a air intake with a bigger diameter to keep the engine natural aspirated, with this another 10 HP = 567 HP ! We really need the Dark Horse?🤔You run the Dino with X Pipe? By the way ,not run on a Dino, without cooling properly the engine!

    So I decided to attempt this process this morning and I got stuck at the part of removing the size reduction tube. I tried to get several different sizes of screwdrivers to pry and release those tabs to remove the tube but it was just digging into the plastic. Since this process was cut from the video, I am curious as to what you used as well as if you have to pry at all three sides at the same time or if there is enough play to do one at a time. I thought it would be quick so I tried to do it when I didn’t have much time, maybe that’s where I went wrong. Thanks in advance!

      The tabs need to pop up slightly. You can use anything that you can wedge under them. I have had people tell me they used paint sticks, chisels, and butter knives. Then you need to push from the other side through the tube. It helps if you get a helper to hold those wedges in place as you push from the other side. I assure you it pop out. The good news the tube will pop back in very easily once the trap is removed. Make sure you have watched part two which was shot the following day. th-cam.com/video/bV05ABKP2uc/w-d-xo.html

      Pull the lid, disconnect the mass airflow sensor, remove mass airflow sensor, pull the intake tube from the throttle body to the lid, once the tube is out of the you need to lift the three tabs from the section that leads into the airbox with something (I used screwdrivers) while pushing on the trap from the opposite side (throttle body side) and the tube insert pops out. The trap is easy to remove from there it held in place by 3 small tabs. re-install tube insert, mass airflow sensor, tube back into the car and then the lid, connect mass airflow sensor. I do not have to go through emissions testing where I live so I can't say but from what I understand the device is there to capture any gases that may escape through the intake after you shut the car down. That said it's best not to toss any OEM car part. Original emission equipment for a 1970 Boss 302 brings big money. Also government regulations change all the time so you maybe required to have it in at some point in the future.

I did find an additional carbon filter mounted in the engine air filter box above the filter, meaning that air passes through the main engine air filter then through this smaller carbon filter. What do you think about removing the circular plates in the grill and cutting a hole in the hood insulation above the CAI to let in more cool air? I thought the hood scoops were functional but there is no hole in the insulation above the air filter?

    • @TonysFordsandMustangs
      @TonysFordsandMustangs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ford has a duct that runs just behind the grill plate directly to the airbox. You will find it when you look. I thought about removing that plate but it's there to keep large objects such as leaves, big bugs etc. from clogging up the filter. I pull and blow out the filter every 1000 miles or so. They collect a lot of junk. The vents in the hood are heat extractors and they are functional. They pull the hot air out of the engine compartment instead of ducting cold air in. I don't think you will see much of a gain if any by pulling the drivers side plate and I wouldn't cut your insulation as you will ruin the seal to the hood and pull hot air from the engine in which would lower HP.

    Curious, Tony. So what does the hydrocarbon trap actually do, please? I'm not sure, but is it possible that Ford decreased the power of the 2022's to increase the reliability of the engine? I don't know. I heard that they did it for 'emissions.'

    Literally did this at the track 2 weeks ago - and picked up 12 hundredths. I just returned my 2019 GT back to stock, and wonder if there is any benefit to the JLT cold air over the stock.

    • @TonysFordsandMustangs

      That's good result and I don't think there's much of a benefit to a JLT over stock minus the HC Trap. At least not enough to justify the cost.

      @@TonysFordsandMustangs Well thank you for doing the leg work. I didn't see this info anywhere else on the web. The Mach 1 is on my short list of cars I'm looking at and I was really disappointed that Ford took away horsepower and tq, it's a big relief seeing how easy it is to get the power back and thankfully its not tune related like Ford said it was. Hey Tony is there a separate part of the intake with a waffle-shaped piece in the tubing? My 2022 GT (non Mach 1) has a different style carbon trap than yours, the GTs are on the top portion of the intake box (we don’t have a open filter like Mach 1). Closer to the MAF area in the tube there’s a waffle shaped insert that’s molded in the tube and tuners say to keep it because it acts as a air straightener for the MAF to get a more accurate reading. Not sure if the Mach 1 features that as well.

    • @TonysFordsandMustangs
      @TonysFordsandMustangs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No sir the open air is a striaght shit to the throttle body. There is a duct section to help airflow but if you have a 2022 you have HC trap inline normally after the MAF sensor. I will dig into it a bit more in the coming weeks.

      I have a 22 GT as well. The waffle piece was just pressed in there and you should be able to pull it out. There were no clips holding it in but it still took me a few minutes. I also removed the secondary filter in the lid just to see what will happen.

      @Tony’s Fords and Mustangs how do you think the Mach1 would do with tall larger guys? I’m 6’3” and 325lbs. I’m in the market and I’m trying to decide on cars vs trucks etc. I’ve been a Jeep guy the last 12 years. Ready to try something new. I have always wanted a mustang but I’m looking at everything from ‘ Estes to Challengers

      @@scott7695 I would tell you the Recaro seat won't work for you. The best thing is for you to drive a Mustang. I have some larger friend that fit just fine but other that find them too tight a fit. I can't argue with a Challenger. The SRT cars do everything well just nothing great. They are quick, have decent handling, get decent mileage and are comfortable to drive, and have plenty of space both in the passenger compartment and in the trunk. From the factory the SRT's don't lead at any of those things. The Hellcats are very fast IF you can get them to hook up. They are also great at burnouts if that's your thing. They can be made to handle well but it's a long road to get there. I can say I have never been a Jeep person as I don't go off road often. Best of luck and let me know which way you go.

    Informative video. Unfortunately the ending ruined it all for me.
    So Alex is in the wrong just because he was sent a link that Ford, out of everyone, put out?
    Then he is accused of not doing research even though this was something the manufacturer put out? 😂
    What’s wrong with people..

    • @TonysFordsandMustangs
      @TonysFordsandMustangs  ปีที่แล้ว

      I watched Alex's stream after I heard from several of his viewers who stated I was dead wrong about this and I didn't know what I was talking about. When you spend the time and do the research that can piss you off. Ford put the wrong information out there. I get that. Alex decided to roll with it with out checking out anything. He stated "There you have it, we are back to the 1970's". As far as I know he has never circled back to correct this error. Nobodies perfect but If you state something as fact for your audience and you find out later that you were quoting an error you should retract it. A guy who has been around the car community as long as he has he should have known that compression drop like that would have netted a much larger drop in than just 10 HP.

    • @trackdriven350
      @trackdriven350 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the thing though, the research is in the fact that FoMoCo was the one who said this, so the research is there. I get it can be frustrating to hear something negative, in this case what the article said, but at the same time Alex’s livestream was to discuss the topic of what was presented by Ford. If anything the blame at the end should of went to Ford and not to Alex for discussing something that Ford put out.

      @@trackdriven350 There are/were multiple Ford websites that have the correct information on the 2022's and only one that was incorrect. Had he choose to look into it for a couple of minutes he could have found conflicting data rather quickly throwing that website in question. He didn't do that and he now has people believing that 22's & 23's 5.0's are down on compression. I have seen multiple posts on social media and in forums from these people and trust me they believe it to be a fact only because Alex said it and it was on one Ford website. I don't argue with them because it's pointless. If he wants to have misinformed subscribers so be it. I can't understand how you can fault me for stating that the information he relayed was wrong (immediately after it happened) and that he should have looking into this prior to saying it was fact. At the minimum he should tell his audience that Ford's website was wrong and that the new 5.0's are not down on compression. I don't watch enough of his videos to know if that has happened yet but I have yet to see it the comments section.

    • @trackdriven350
      @trackdriven350 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir, I understand. What I’m getting to is how you said it on the video. If the miss information was put out by Ford why not just blame them for the miss information?It makes it sound as if he is the one who came up with this but all along he was just going over whatever Ford released to the public. I am sure he will go over the topic again sooner or later but it just hasn’t come up ever since, there’s been other topics discussed.
      But like I said I understand you, it’s just how things are said is all.

      @@trackdriven350 He's the one that brought attention to it. There are very few people drilling down that far into Ford's website. This isn't the first time the marketing department at Ford has had bad info on their website. Alex knows that as well. I think he was having fun with it but unfortunately a lot of his viewers took it as fact. Everybody runs their own show and I don't think I outright bashed him for this. I mentioned it and pointed out it was wrong because I grew tired of the comments section filling up with his fans telling me I didn't know what I was talked about. Their only proof was that link and that Alex said it. I could post the owners manual and several other sources form Ford as proof that the compression hadn't changed to no avail. Thank you for understanding and perhaps I could have worded it better.
