    Electric pump or use the foot pump as intended or maybe a knee pump. It's useful having two hands free especially if under way.

  • @diederikvandedijk
    @diederikvandedijk ปีที่แล้ว +12

    The foot pump will fill up fine if it's below the water level. If the pump has to be above, use a simple piston pump. You'd be pulling the water up by muscle instead of relying on the spring or elasticity in the pump.

    • @davidr8309
      @davidr8309 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Like Diederik said the foot pump needs to be below the water level. It is not designed to suck water up it is designed to push water up.

    A 12V or 24V RV water pump might do the trick for you here. Many of them have pressure switches included to shut them off at a normal plumbing pressure, usually expecting to be used with a tap and small pressure tank they keep at pressure for ready use. If the filter is a severe enough restriction a small pressure tank after it might be a bigger boon than the pump

    clear tubing is great for inspection, less great for keeping nasties from growing. Even in a mild clorine environment there are still many kinds of algae that can get a foothold with enough light and while most of them are not dangerous, they can be less than palatable and will cause filters to clog much more rapidly. If you really want to keep your clear hoses (and I am not saying you don't), you should look into sleeving them with an opaque cover to keep the light out. This is also something you will want to do with your translucent tank.
    (yes, even clean treated water can grow algae if given enough time. They are hardy little bastards that can set up shop pretty much anywhere there is enough light and moisture)

    For the table edges, maybe a largish-bore flexible plastic tube (something like the transparent flex pipes in your water system, but larger), slitted lengthwise and slid on to the edge. Might be a pain to hold on or alternatively to remove, I guess.

      My thought too. I was also thinking of using foam insulation tubing. They also make a baby-proofing product for making edges of glass coffee tables safer for firstborn children. Might work for this too.

    hi alex, love your videos! If your watersystem should be manual only, why not use a system like with those garden-sprayers, that pressurize the tank with Air and force water out via a pipe that goues down close to the buttom of the tank. so all you need woud be an air-pump, could even be a bicicle pump that just lives next to your tank and is connected when needed...., so you pressurize the tank once and water could be run from the faucet several times, when the pressure gets to low, just pressurize the tank again....

    Alex, now that an electric pump is an option a small Rule bilge pump held down with 316ss threaded rod with both filters mounted vertically to the rod and the "teflon" tube outlet, wires and whatever else required for maintenance attached to the filler lid, more space in Alan and less things to disconnect for future mods. For your bench top some car sliding window bailey channel from an auto wreckers would slide on and a little contact cement would hold it in place. As far as your ballast concrete I would have added some plastic mesh as the hull impacts with crack it from the bottom up. Keep up the good work!

    Reg. The missing lip on the small “table”. I would take a correct size rubber hose and cut it along its length. Then clamp it on. Easy on and eazy off. Not a specifically “romantic” solution, but cheap and easy and should hold on well enough, for it’s critical tasks.

    2x filters in parallel offer considerably more filter life than just double.
    In the vid (link below) starting at minute 26, Jon explains why with a graph. He had residual rust in his fuel tank after a thorough cleaning that was still blocking filters in no time but I think 2x filters in parallel give you about 4 or more times filter life than just one filter, for only double the cost. Cost wise it is far more efficient.
    th-cam.com/video/DWNT_htKWpg/w-d-xo.html
    Also there's another benefit of parallel filters pertinent to your foot pump imbroglio.
    I found this on a plumbing site:
    *"Plumbing filters in parallel increases the flow capacity and reduces the pressure drop across the two combined filters."*

    Well you know why people are complaining right. Cuz you're doing it wrong.!
    It's not ingenuity to use a foot pump as a hand pump. It's literally more difficult. That's the function of having it be a foot pump.! So if your hands are full or covered in shmutz. You can access the water. Without using your hands. Regardless of manual hydrolysis.
    But I guess you find it acceptable to never wash both hands at the same time.!
    Not to mention. You could easily just pressurize the tank with air. And have it come out all by itself.!
    Like you swear making it difficult on yourself is in some way better. Nop. Just in some way stupider.!
    Not to mention. You're holding it upside down. When you're testing it. And even when you're holding your right side up. You can see it starts to come out. Which if you're only washing one hand at a time. I guess that's fine.
    But if you've ever used a foot pump before. You know it can produce at least three times as much flow. If you are rapidly pressing it with your foot.
    But then you mention you might have to get some sort of electric pump. Which again is IDIOTIC.!!!
    ALL YOU HAVE TO DO. IS PRESSURIZED THE WATER TANK WITH AIR. You can do that with a bike pump since you like making things so difficult.. And it will last for as long as the water does.!
    This is what really perturbs me about some of your videos. I'm watching. Because I expect you to do clever and useful things. But sometimes. Good grief man.
    I think maybe you've been traveling too much. Or maybe you haven't put that much thought into it. Or maybe that's why you ask for assistance a lot from the comments.

    I mentioned it before, and while watching this was surprised as to what you attempting, that an RO unit, with an electric pump, might be the way to go. It can be engaged at any time and would have a pressurized a tank. You can choose the pressure and still use your refrigerator filter. Personally, a block filter scares me and I would at least use a granular carbon filter, but that's my opinion. You never know where you'll end up and having something that can filter salt water is a plus. Besides, you can set up the small electric pump as a pre-pump that can be directed to just filtered water, RO water or just direct pumped into the sink freshish water can be used. Just a thought and a ball valve adjustment. A pressurized RO tank filled with water is a great ballast and is generally always full if the pump is engaged. A manual pump is a great backup and another valve adjustment away. Just sayin. Water is the most important. Also, I always love your comedy. Cheers
