    That you are putting a lots and lots of holes in your boat. Which for a boat is fine. But for submarine these are all a million different points of failure.
    Because that epoxy may not be Stout enough to resist almost 24 psi. When you're 20 ft underwater.!

    Well done, you can always find someone with a pipe bender later to swap over the bow railing with a single piece of pipe bent into a U shape for the bow railing if you want but it's not important now.

      A length of bent pipe for the bow railing would be less complex and stronger than the current set up with the composite and extenders. It would also look better

    Great channel. Impressed with delivery time of purchased Alan t-shirt! I think I will get a hat next...Thankyou. Something you may wish to consider when drilling holes through glass with foam core (Ep79); the sealant will most likely break down over time leading to potential (unknown) water ingress into core. Ideally, it's best to seal the core with epoxy. On my boat, I drill oversize holes, apply a laminate/glass backing, fill hole with thickened epoxy and re-drill to required fastener diameter. If the sealant fails, you will see the leaks from the inside of the boat and hopefully it shouldn't enter the core. I believe some shipwrights drill to size, recess the core (with engineers scribe) then paint/fill small channel with thickened epoxy. Thanks for filming your efforts with an entertaining sense of humour. Catching up to your latest episodes. Shaydon, Australia.

    It might be a good idea to through bolt the extender pipes that go from the vertical rail to the curved front rail. Currently those are relying on just friction of the set screws to resist the force of someone leaning into the curved horizontal rail. That could cause the curved rail fitting to come
    Off the extended pipe or the extender pipe to slip out of the T-Bracket.
    Also good to put tie wire
    Around the turn buckle clevis pins so they don’t back out over time.

      @@AlexHibbertOriginals you never ever use the tool to tighten the disk on angle grinder. You should always hand tighten it (when it's spinns it is self-tightening) therefore you can unscrew it by hand. if you have pu$y hand use the tool to remove the disk.

    Woohoo! More updates and grinder! I had wondered if you were going to use the cables and turnbuckles to connect to your upper railings. As long as your composite railing does the job, that's all you can ask of it. Are you going to put on something that will let people anchor themselves, such as the bolts you see in high windows now?

  • @alanglen5902
    @alanglen5902 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you should seal up where the tubes go into the brackets. Inevitably, sea water, rain water etc will leak in there and galvanic action will cause that alloy tube, zinc, stainless grub screws... to corrode badly. Not to mention water freezing and expanding etc... What do you think???

    I’m going to guess that the cables aren’t enough to add strength to the front rail. You are only adding some strength in one direction with the cables (force applied forward) - if someone pulled hard enough those galvanised mounts or the aluminium bar could deform or snap. turnbuckles can make this problem worse as you might be preloading the bars. If you have time a solid bar /rod mounted in the same location as the cables would give tension and compression advantages.

    • @AlexHibbertOriginals
      @AlexHibbertOriginals  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, as with any design I have to balance various things. In terms of an impact so strong it would deform 5mm steel or 3mm alu tube, it wouldn't be a human being, as there's no distance for someone to fall with more than a trip. If colliding with something solid, I WANT the railing to fail, instead of anything else more important like my fibreglass shell.

    • @DuaneDiddley
      @DuaneDiddley ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense that you want the rail to be sacrificial Alex. There’s no substitute for being there, having hands on the job. Loving the build mate.

  • @TimSetter-z9u
    @TimSetter-z9u ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, also don’t like the crossbar. Get a single aluminium tube of the correct diameter professionally bent into shape and just fit to
    your clamps either side. Get it done or it’ll annoy you for the whole trip. 😂

    I don't like it either. It looks wrong in that it should have bracing / safety bars going to the rear. Either horizontal or angled. And at the front maybe a lower bar across the front. Nothing worse than a false sense of security. Well, maybe a reactor meltdown or burnt bacon.

    • @AlexHibbertOriginals
      @AlexHibbertOriginals  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I looked at this, but you'd end up having to use a ball or swivel joint, as the angles are not 0, 45 or 90 deg in two planes. These sorts of joints aren't that rigid.
